1. iCiNG Day is no more! Sorry, kittens. I have lost my passion for it & so I won’t be dishing out themes or serving up photographs. It seems silly to do something I’m not enjoying! You are, of course, free to celebrate it in your own way whenever you like, I just won’t be involved :>
2. I have re-written the commenting policy — please take a look.
3. I’ve also re-worked the About iCiNG page, which I think now more closely reflects what we’re doing here. Any suggestions or additions welcomed!
4. Many of you will have noticed that iCiNG has been having major server problems recently. Well, celebrations are in order, because today we shifted to a new server! It should be super-stable from here on in! Yay! Also, for the last year, iCiNG has been running because of the generosity of a friend of ours. It’s now costing me US$100/month, which adds up quickly. If any of you would like to make a donation towards running costs, it would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Um… One question, Gala. n_n;
Based on the new commenting policy, should we contain our babbling if it doesn’t add to the article? Like, if it’s off topic or just complimenting your article?
‘Cause I know I’m guilty of that.
Congrads on the new server. :D
I have the same question as retro.bunny.
Good on the new server, hope to see the heart favicon back soon ;).
Kisses.
haha, love your little poem gala, so cute.
& the ‘about icing’ section made my hair stand on end! it’s right on the ball in my opinion.
sorry hun, i would love to donate but i’m pretty much jobless & extremely poor!
Dear Gala, I love your commenting policy poem – very cute!
Shocked to hear about your server bills – wowsers, thanks for your generosity in keeping iCiNG up and going.
I haven’t made a tip, but instead I just purchased your ebook which I hope will help out a little. I just hosted a Tiramisu party to celebrate the start of a 1/3 life crisis and while I was too late to use your tips I’m looking forward to my next party running even more smoothly!
p.s. maybe you’re avoiding blatant self promotion but I read your blog in a RSS reader and I wasn’t even aware that you had a store section with a book to buy until your recent post about the updated version. I’m sure a teeny bit of product promotion wouldn’t be minded here and there, and might help a little with conversion :D
Thanks again for your great writing!
hi gala
i just wanted to send you a quick note to say i love your commenting policy. i have to admit that i never read the last one (my comments were always very sweet tho) but i found the updated one very inspiring! its wonderful to find a blog on the internet where everyone is focused on pointing out the positives rather than noting out the negatives lol :)
keep up the wonderful work gala
your amazing posts make me smile
and give me something to look forward to each morning :)
Gala, you gave me a heart attack!! I read that first line as “iCiNG is no more!”
D: was pretty much my face!
Good luck with the new server! I just know this year is going to be bigger and better than ever :)
Retro.Bunny & Juls — No, babbling is fine! I love babbling. Viva la babble! It’s just when people decide to have a rant about something that’s annoying them, or whatever… I don’t like to read that stuff & I don’t think many other people do either! Kisses to you both for being so damn cute!
Mathew — Thank you so much for the book purchase! Much appreciated. I will be pimping my shop out more in the near future, when I have a couple more things in it. Great stuff is coming, too :>
kellyclare — Aw! Thanks dollface. What the internet needs now is love, sweet love! ;D
telis — No, I’m not killing iCiNG! That would be crazy! Heart heart!
Aww, I can’t believe those ridiculous server costs! You should really get your own, you know. Server maintenance isn’t that difficult these days. Although I suppose you wouldn’t have the time or the energy to be a rack mount slave (that sounds rude) as well as a full-time self employed writer. Meh sorry, that wasn’t very helpful after all.
I can’t believe you killed Icing Day. Now i have hardly anything to ravish my time in. Uber disappointed.
Antonia — Sorry honeypuff. It just wasn’t fun for me anymore. There are newer, better, cooler things coming up, so don’t sweat it! Plus, you don’t need an excuse to dress up on a preordained day — just do it whenever you want to!
Hey sweetie;
You have done a GREAT job with all the re-writing and ass-kicking poetry – be proud!
Um, I suppose this is more of a rant and a thank-you comment. ^^
Gala darling, I don’t know if you know, but you’re an incredible inspiration. (Though you most probably know, since you have a whole lot of cupcake-loving fans.)
I’ve learnt a whole lot of incredible and funny things from your articles – like to always keep on celebrating!
Werther celebrate your big idol’s birthday and do something in his/her honour (like dressing up, or baking!), or simply set off a day to celebrate life in general, it’s important to stay happy and content. Not to mention all of the wonderful how-to articles. (Like how to start using more colours with my wonderful black.)
You’ve also taught me that I don’t need one of those über boring office jobs that I’ve been thoroughly dreading since the day I learnt what ‘work’ meant.
The thought of living from my writings – or designs – is rather tempting indeed, though I just don’t have enough courage to show off or post most of them yet.
I suppose only time will tell what direction both you, your blog and us readers develop in, but I know everything pointing in a more positive direction. ^^
I agree with Matthew about pimping out your own shop! I vote you move it to the right-hand side in ALLCAPS :DD (like the RSS link!)
The commenting policy poem is adorable!
& on a side note- What do you think of those new Marc Jacobs accessories made out of legos? I saw them and instantly thought of you.
I’m having problems with the RSS feed… anyone else is having them too ? I hope the glitches vanish soon !
I love the poem!
For a moment there i said, the website was no more. I almost fainted.
I love this page!
i too would like to thank you for inspiring me to work on my own business, rather than just settle for a well paying, but uber boring, office job!
every time you post something related to working for yourself…it brings back the motivation i need to keep on going while i’m waiting to get paid :p
and to echo eternalvoyageur’s comment, i too am having issues with the RSS feed. the posts are coming through just fine (i happen to subscribe through LJ), but the links back to you site are crapping out.
good luck with the new server :-)

Reading the comments tells me how many fellow readers also skim things and give themselves little mini momentary heartbreaks via missing a word or too! I had to look back again take a deep breath and… relax…. ;)
Best of luck on everything – Kay
I’m guessing you’ve heard about this site, but I’ll tell you about it anyway, as some readers may not have heard of it.
futureme.org
You can send emails to the future. That’s all it is. But can you imagine, when you’re in your 40’s, getting an email from your 17-year-old self? It would be amazingly lovely. I’ve used the site to send emails to my parents in the future, too, so they’ll have ways of remembering me as a kid.
Have fun,
Super love and glace cherries (:])
xx
Dearest Gala,
I also read “iCiNG is no more” my goooood I thought I was going to die.
But you’d never do that, would you?
But you know, this whole thing about the iCiNG day didn’t sound like you, It’s perfect if you’ve lost your passion for it, but I don’t know, I never imagined it’d happen, you never miss chances to celebrate.
Maybe everyday is an iCiNG day for you.
Hope that’s why iCiNG day is n o more.
I would love to make a donation but I still live with my parents, I’m still 18, and depend mostly of their income. I’m moving out this summer so maybe then I can start a small saving fund to help iCiNG, you’ve been way to generous on keeping it up and running. You’ve changed some of our lives, and you know what also? iCiNG is since the day I found it my religious-must-to read, I can’t go through my day without knowing what Gala is celebrating today.
Thanks for this las 6 months…
INFINITE X’S & O’S
Hi there, I’ve been reading your articles for a few weeks now – AWESOME. yay for you.
I’m not sure if this is relevant, but you mentioned you’re paying $100 a month for your site, and I wanted to let you know that I am the webmaster for a club.. we buy from Dreamhost.com and it is $129 for the year, including everything. I don’t know how much space you require and whatnot, but I’ve never had any problems with them. They’re a great group and I hope you are able to find a more affordable way to keep this awesome website going!
OH MY GOD! gala whyyy OOOO: ;((((((( nononono its not real O: but….. oh no but why… i have so many things to tell you, i have so many questions ;(
i have so many advices to ask you for ;(((
so many arguments to start with you ;(((
okay i think that this is crazy O: will you still be in internet so i can find you in livejournal…. or flickr or somewhere else O:
Hey cuties, thanks for letting me know about the RSS feed. We’ve had a look at it & tinkered around with it so hopefully it is all good now — please let me know if you have any more problems!
Pinup_Girl — I think they’re pretty wicked. I was going to use a picture of them in my Geek Chic article, but used one from the Sartorialist at the last moment :>
Lucy — That website is an amazing idea, thank you!!
wing commander bell — I think you’re probably right. I do like to make the most out of every day, & sometimes having it on a set date seems a bit contrived & random. I would rather just be ecstatic about my day regardless of the date. Also I think it’s a bit like Burning Man: there are a lot of people who look forward to BM all year because they hate the “real world” so much, & BM is their escape. I guess I want to encourage people to make the world their own, instead of escaping it occasionally. Know what I mean?
alyssa — Oh, thank you for the info, but I move so much traffic that I really need my own box & lots of room to move :>
& Marge — I’m not going anywhere!!!!!! Deep breath!!!! ;D
That’s pretty amazing in a way that you need your own server! Though the cost is a lot of $$$, but I think some people would DREAM of having that much traffic. :)
Also, instead of donating at the moment, I want to go out shopping with you in NYC and buy you something special in person (and a Magnolia birthday cupcake!) Hee.
I’m fighting every day to get caught up so I can start working on some stuff for you by Friday…sorry it’s not sooner.
xoxox
Nubs
You scared me Gala. I read the first note to fast and thought you meant no more ANYTHING from you. I nearly fainted in fear!
Good luck with all
Nubby — Hee. Yeah, it’s AWESOME to have so much traffic; I think iCiNG is much bigger than a lot of people think :> If I had to pick, I would always choose more traffic + higher costs over no traffic for free!
