Adventures In Auckland!

[ 12 January 2009 ]

I have grown obsessed with documenting everything that happens to me. Here then, for your viewing pleasure, is a summary of my adventures in Auckland, from photoshoots & hula hooping in back alleys to rap shows & treehouse dinners!

The song is Will.I.Am’s remix of Michael Jackson’s P.Y.T., & beware, there is a naughty word right at the end! Enjoy, oui!

Love letters & feather headdresses,

  7. tree house envy!

for pity’s sake gala – get a big girl hoop.

    <3 Lynne · Jan 12, 01:42 AM · #
  8. Lynne — They’re my friend’s hoops! Besides all that, I don’t even know where to BUY a full-size one in Wellington, can’t be arsed making my own & am totally not into paying for shipping to NZ…

  9. It looks like you had loads of fun!

  10. So cute! This video was awesome….mad video editing skills, yo. BTW, I am pretty sure that I am going to the music portion of SXSW...maybe I can pull a few strings and go to Interactive, too?!

  11. Awesomeberries. I can never get over how big the sky looks in the City of Sails. Reminds me that it’s time for me to go back for a visit too :)

I thought you could buy a hoop at the Warehouse? Or are they only kiddie size? I’m seriously interested in getting one and I will definitely have to have a big girls one ‘coz I’m one big girl lol… :)

    Looked like fun!

  12. Love it! & the music goes so well with it all.

  13. Awwwwwwwwww…....... Flat whites in the little brown cups. THAT is what is missing from my life at the moment!!!!!! x
PS what did you use to edit the video?

    <3 jess · Jan 12, 03:43 AM · #
  14. Nubby — Aaaaahhhh, YES! My pass gets me into the Interactive & Film portions I think, I don’t know about anything else but I assume the Music part is totally separate. Get Nemo to hook you up! I am so excited about going, honestly, it is going to be amazing!

Jenny in Wellington, NZ — My hoop is from the Warehouse but apparently is child-sized. I had no idea! Haha. It was the only size they had really, the other ones had water in them & I wasn’t into it. I feel like I need to go to a juggling shop or something, but people have been telling me about collapsible hoops which you can put in your suitcase (!!!) which is probably what I need!

jess — I used iMovie HD! It’s not super-advanced but it’s about right for my skill level!

  16. That video was so much fun, its great to see the things we’ve been reading about :)

I especially loved seeing the photo booth pictures. I’m in the middle of an exchange to Japan (which is officially the best decision I have ever made)and all the other girls here and I go to purikura (that type of photo booth) to commemorate the occasion every time we hang out. I have this insanely huge collection of them now, and it just makes me smile whenever I see them. If you want, I can send you the link to some of the ones I’ve uploaded.

P.S. If you ever have some spare time, come visit Japan – there’s seriously nowhere else like it :)

  18. Wow! How fabulous!
I always film where I go, but I come back with loads of boring clips of us, like, walking down a path or something! Super boring!

Have your friends mastered the Hoop yet?

    :P

    <3 Vixxie · Jan 12, 05:30 AM · #
  19. brodie — Hahaha. I was just trying to feed you up to show you my love! xx

Vixxie — Timmy is still pretty crap, hahaha, but as you can see, Erin is awesome!

  20. Okay, so as soon as I get back home to Australia from Japan I’m going to buy myself a hula hoop and practice until I get it!! Of course, this has nothing to do with your amazing skills and perhaps a tint of jealous! You may have started a craze here!!

This is an awesome video, your life seems so amazing, beautiful and magical!

  26. what an appropriate song choice! and nice work on putting together the video; i had to make one for a group project this last semester, and my group quickly realized how utterly shit i am at working with computers, so i got stuck with research. i’d say it’s about time for me to learn!

  27. I must say though that I do miss the meaningful posts full of interesting stuff that you used to write. There was hardly any content all December, and I was hoping it would get better in Jan !

  31. I need to travel, or at least go on a day trip so I can put together a video like that. I love it.
I want to get into jump roping again. Hooping is fun, but I used to be able to jump rope for hours on end. sigh Soon!

  32. Ooo! I’ve just noticed the signature change! Love it. When did you change it? I have a feeling it has been changed for a while and I am just mega unobservant.

  33. They may or may not have hula hoops at sport shops (Rebel Sport etc) – although I think the only ones I’ve seen have been hardcore ones with bits designed to massage down wobbly bits. Have you looked in 2Cheap on Manners St, or Coin Save in Newtown? They might have them there :>

  40. Shame you’re not swinging by London any time soon as am sure this would be right up your alley – there is a show on at the moment in Leicester Square called La Clique… it’s like a circus inspired gig, tinkering on the border of burlesque in parts …. anyway, at one stage there is a girl hooping & she gets going with 4 hoops at once, it’s pretty epic, must say.

Actually… oh & lets just praise the joys of Youtube, you can check her out here:

    uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2eXWzTw…

Now thats some hooping inspiration if ever I saw!

  41. I’m not surprised you have grown obsessed with documenting everything that you do when so much exciting stuff happens! I’ve been trying to get back into the habit of documenting more this year too. It’s a good thing.
I’m impressed with your hooping skills, i’m hoOpeless at it haha!
I really like the video bit of out the window when the plane took off! x

  42. where do you find all of your sweet remixes? from music blogs or do you just have a bunch of cool friends that make you mixtapes?

    <3 lizzie · Jan 12, 06:15 PM · #
  43. Your trip looks like it was super fun! Especially the hooping, I should start hooping myself.

    That song is awesome, btw.

    <3 henshin · Jan 12, 06:32 PM · #
  44. Zilla — Haha! I love hooping so much, today I’m actually going to buy a collapsible hoop (& another normal one because it’s too pretty for me to resist!), YAY! It’s mega-fun but not a great spectator sport unless you’re super-good at it!

Lou — I try to be great to be around, but I can be grumpy & antisocial just like everyone else ;D

    Francesca — I know, he’s a mad cutie!

eternalvoyageur — That girl is amazing! My new obsession is Rayna from Hoopnotica, I saw her videos last night & I almost fell over, she makes it look so good. & I know it’s been quiet around here, I’ve been in holiday mode just like everyone else!

pigeon — Thank you! I love editing videos actually, I find it incredibly satisfying!

Maria — I shot all of this stuff with a Nikon Coolpix P5100.

Sarah JaneLOVED IT, totally amazing, so stoked that I got to go!

Skelerina — Mos’ def’, I will send you postcards sealed with a New York kiss!

witnit — You are a strange girl!

lindsey clare — I agree! I thrashed it for weeks!

lizzie — Hmmm, all over the place. I talk to people about music a lot, & I do read a few music blogs, & I keep my eye on what’s coming out & that kind of thing. This track is actually an official MJ one, it was on the Thriller 25th anniversary re-issue so it’s pretty easy to get your hands on!

  45. A packable hoop is in your future.

So easy and cheap to make that you can give them away.

Used to teach hooping so maybe they know who to buy from?
