Calling All Nonpareils In New York...

[ 20 May 2008 ]

Ring ring!

Dear New Yorkers (& anyone who will be in NYC at the end of the month),

Ahem! I have decided to throw un petit nonpareil bash to celebrate being in New York, the launch of the Sex & The City movie, & life in general! You are all invited! Squeal!

I’d like to know…
<3 The likely numbers of people coming
<3 What date/time is best for you
<3 What you’d like to do!

My initial idea was for us to all go to see the Sex & The City movie, then go out for dessert or drinks (or both) somewhere afterwards. If you don’t like SATC, that’s okay, you can just meet up with us after the show! But what would you like to do?

The movie comes out on Friday the 30th of May, but I’m thinking that if there are a lot of us, it might be difficult for us all to buy tickets & sit together… Would Saturday be better? Or Sunday? Or Monday night?

Let me know your thoughts & I will get planning!

Can’t wait to meet you all! Eeeeee!

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  10. ...I wish I could make it up to NYC that weekend! Sadly, my family is going to the beach together.
Although I must ask, would you be up for meeting other nonpareils who happen to be in the city over the course of the summer? I know I’ll be there at some point…

  11. oh if i was ONLY a teensy bit older (aka, 8 months) and i’d be on a train to NYC in a heart beat. it’d be phenomenal to see sex and the city with you!

however, i am running out to see it the minute my exam is over!
my friends and i are planning on dressing up in costume to go see the film. ( i do this often. you can imagine what it is like when i go to see Harry Potter)

  19. Oooh… if I can get my brother to drive me that weekend, I would die of happiness! I live about 5 hours away, but it would be so worth it to go see SatC with Gala Darling and the nonpareils! (We sound like a band… :3)

P.S. Maybe for those who are under the legal drinking age, we could go for cupcakes and/or coffee instead, like whole gang of underage people… Just a thought! :3 Not that I’m opposed to drinking. It’s just I don’t want to be in trouble with the laaaw, partner!

  20. You should do something similar when you get back to Melbourne, I’d love to meet you and other fellow iCing readers!

  21. How long exactly are you planning to stay, Gala? I’m visiting my sister in the city this summer, but not until August. It might be too late then (another near miss!). But it sounds like fun for all the other nonpareils!

    <3 sora · May 20, 09:34 PM · #
  22. I would totally be up for that, it sounds awesome. :D Saturday will probably work better for me, but Sunday is fine too!

  24. Ohhh I can hardly believe this, not only will I be in the city at the same time as the great Gala but she’s trowing a get together too… Big downside for me though is that I’m leaving on that very friday :(.. I would so have loved to meet up with you Gala simply because you have inspired me so amazingly much and I’m real curious about the woman behind it all.

Will check to make sure you do not change the date but if you don’t -know that I am kicking myself for not being able to stay another day.

  25. gala, COME TO ST. LOUIS!!!!! I’d love to meet you, and we could gather with other nonpareils that live around here and picnic in forrest park (bigger than central park with more museums and giant fountains) and go dancing or something. so fun ^ _ ^

have fun at the movie girls!!!!! have a drink for me ;) (seeing as im also underage)

    <3 Shauna · May 20, 10:45 PM · #
  28. hey gala! i’m a NYC gal – i’m in queens! :) we should all dress up, see the movie, go out for desserts, and then stage our own fabulous and crazy photo shoot in central park or union square or somewhere nearby where we see the movie! it would be so fun to get a bunch of us and pose and take silly photos, haha, just a thought.. if it’s going to be a large gathering maybe we should all sit somewhere outside and chit chat if the weather is nice, as opposed to going to someplace loud (like a club/bar), in addition to the underage concerns? ps gala if you like great rock music you should see the giraffes at bowery ballroom on june 12th! i LOVE them! just a thought ;D oh and also.. gala, have you ever been to coney island? you MUST go! that would be a fun nonpareil outing when the weather gets nicer? i also think you would LOVE this store called lola staar that is on the boardwalk in coney island (www.lolastaar.com).. definitely look it up online! ;D

  31. I’m in! Maybe that Saturday? Or the week after is good too. Probably be easier to get tickets….

And RetroBunny has a good idea: Magnolia Bakery is the SATC bakery (aka the one they visit on the show), so that would be a fun trip. Oh, and did I mention the cupcakes are to die for? Because they literally are. I mean…the other thing is that there are plenty of places that don’t card in the city so…that’s an option too.

Oh and I agree with Audrey. We have to dress up and take pictures and pretend we are the SATC girls :)

  40. This is so awesome!!

I’m from Singapore and will be arriving in NYC on the 29th of May till end Jul for an internship!

Since I’m travelling alone, I was part dreading the idea of catching SATC in NYC alone because I’d have nobody to share my excitement with of the most anticipated movie (in my books) EVER!

    Do email me the details!!

am taking my girls on a SATC soiree here in the Harbour City (my girls being my staff) and may i just add that it was my lovely honey’s idea to treat our girls to a fun night of dress-ups and cocktails!

    Enjoy all nonpareils!

  46. i am so up for going! i was going to try to get tickets with the boyfriend anyway for opening weekend, so now the both of us will have to tag along on this icing adventure!
i think saturday would be the best bet, however i’m keeping my eyes peeled for advanced screenings. and being that i am 19 and without a fake ID, drinks doesn’t seem like the most plausible idea.
any idea which theater? the two in times square would probably have the most seats, but would also be the most popular. hmmmm….

    <3 kim · May 21, 08:49 AM · #
  47. Well, I’m in Indianapolis but would LOVE to come out to NY, if only I could. However, you have caused me to stumble upon an idea myself. For those of us that can’t make it to NYC to meet and hang with you, we could have hook-ups in our areas to watch the movie and hang. Gala clubs? How FABULOUS does THAT sound! Anyone interested in starting a Gala Club with me in the Indianapolis area?

    <3 Alice · May 21, 09:01 AM · #

  49. Gala, thank you so much for the invite!! Unfortunately, I’ve made other plans for the holiday weekend, but thank you so much all the same! I’m a bit sad, this would have been a great chance to meet you.

    You always have a crash-spot in D.C.
    love and bunnies!

    <3 Dani · May 21, 09:39 AM · #
  50. i am so sad i don’t live in new york! that would be the most immense fun.

was thinking along the same lines as the very clever alice though; for those of us who don’t live in new york, or in fact america, we should have our own little parties anyway!

    <3 jaylove · May 21, 09:51 AM · #
  51. Aw, I’ll only be in New York in September! I doubt you’ll still be around by then :-( But oh well! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for future opportunities! Say, are you going to model for the Doctor Sketchy there? I’m trying to plan my September visit so that I can attend a session, it sounds so awesome, and I’d really like to start my own at home!

    <3 Katoo · May 21, 09:58 AM · #
  52. You are all totally allowed to hold your own iCiNG meet-ups wherever you are! Go nuts! Take pictures! Let me know how it goes!

Katoo — I’m actually coming back to town in September, will be here for my birthday :> So you’re in luck! & yes, I am indeed going to model for Dr Sketchy’s that month. Fun-o-rama!

    <3 Gala · May 21, 10:02 AM · #
  53. Oh I’m totally down for iCiNG parties. I’m in Brisbane. I don’t see many folks mentioning Brisbin around here though…

    <3 Nikkee · May 21, 10:13 AM · #
  54. Gala in NY theres always loooong lines for new movies — even by hours! Im 1000% positive SATC is going to be that way. This could actually work out in your favor. If everyone is arriving at relatively the same time it would be one big mix-and-mingle as you’re waiting to get in and then when the doors open everyone can be seated together!

—also – theres a massive LOWES theatre on 34th st @ 8th ave which would be good if theres a large bunch, its CLEAN which is a real prob for theatres in NY (yuck), also super accessable by all subways& busses,
AAAAAAND there is a Mexican place next door that sells $5 margaritas. =) always a plus for me

    <3 kaliber · May 21, 10:52 AM · #
  55. How fun! Sad I have to miss that one :(.

    <3 Tara Diane · May 21, 11:42 AM · #
  56. agree with all the english nonpareils – make here your next stop! :)

    <3 Harriet · May 21, 12:10 PM · #
  57. what a fun idea! my two (or three, or four) cents:

i think monday night would be a better night to get tickets and seats together. I think for the weekend shows, and especially opening night, we’d have to purchase tickets way in advance. the theaters (and restaurants, bars, etc) will be more relaxed on monday as well.

as far as location goes, i’d recommend staying out of times square/midtown! union square might be a more ideal location since so many subway lines run through the area.

if we are doing drinks (yes, please!), may i recommend beauty bar nymag.com/listings/bar/beauty_… (vintage beauty parlor themed and glittered walls! oh, and they also have a manicurist on duty!) or crocodile lounge nymag.com/listings/bar/crocodi… (skeeball, photo booth, AND free — yes FREE — pizza)!

  58. I would SO love to meet up with everyone if I can squuueeeze it into my crazy schedule. >_<

My summer classes start next Tuesday, on top of my work schedule. Let us know what day/time/place you guys settle on and I’ll see if I can’t scuttle up! (I’m about 2 hours south of NYC.)

    <3 Kele · May 21, 12:39 PM · #
  59. Oh wow, so many of you are under legal drinking age! (Whatever that is… 20?) I think, in the interests of not being exclusionary, we should all go out for dessert afterwards. Those of us who are able to drink can do it there, & those of us who can’t, won’t. Not sure on the date though! Hmmm. Maybe I need to call some theatres…

    <3 Gala · May 21, 01:09 PM · #
  60. Next Friday evening would be perfect! We could go to the AMC in union Square, and afterwards there’s this really great restaurant called Galaxy not too far away (or a dozen other great places in that area):

  61. Ooh, I’ll actually be in NYC that weekend (I live in the UK!), but I’m at a conference so would only be able to make Monday night (and even then I’m not 100% sure I’ll be able to come). But I’ll keep an eye on this thread to see what is planned, and make a decision once I see how everything pans out – hope that’s OK to be a bit indecisive until closer to the day. I’m not a huge SATC nut, so I may just pop along for the food/drink part afterwards… (by the way, I’m loving the look of that Beauty Bar place!).

    <3 L · May 21, 02:18 PM · #
  62. that sounds so great! Gala, please come to Germany:)
Are there any other nonpareils from Germany?

    <3 Sonja · May 21, 02:39 PM · #
  63. I’d totally be up for that, but I vote for waiting until the next week…IF we can wait that long!

My reason is because it is Memorial Day weekend, which means that more than the usual horde of people will be out and about (and waiting in line for the hot movies)since a lot of them will have a four day weekend. It would be a total bummer to have everyone make the effort and then not be able to get in!

    <3 Spaceboo · May 21, 02:51 PM · #
  64. i completely forgot about memorial day weekend! yes, a lot of people will have off work (and school, i think?) that day, and the city will be more crowded than your average monday night.

  86. i am such a dork. memorial day weekend is this weekend, not next weekend! i am now officially going back to my original preference that monday (or any weekday, for that matter) would be the best day for me. however i’ll absolutely do my best to go on the weekend if you decide on that!

how many of us are there, anyway? i wonder…

  88. Count me in (and maybe a +1)! I’m not sure what my schedule will be like that week, but I’m sure I can work around anything. Dressing up sounds excellent! I don’t know if I’d be able to because I have a feeling I’d be coming straight from work…

If you’re planning on seeing S&TC on the opening weekend, it will be very tricky for everyone to go to the same theater unless we show up early, seeing as it will probably sell out quickly in many locations. If you manage to plan ahead, might I suggest picking a said theater and time and all nonpareils could buy their tickets ahead of time via a site like Fandago? Or a matinee show since tickets are far cheaper and it would be easier to get seats.

P.S. The legal drinking age in the US is 21. :-(
