Ever wondered what the differences are between Haute & Low Virgo? If you don’t know… now you know. Additionally, I would like to give a shout out to all my friends who fall within the realms of Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius & Capricorn! Please don’t think I love you any less because you are not Virgos! I just link the Virgo stuff because it is most interesting to me. Mystic Medusa writes about all the signs with equal fervour — check her out!
The Sheats Goldstein residence is pretty rad.
This is my new favourite page: the ASPCA adoptable dogs listing. Such cuties!
£200,000 & 51 operations turn a mother of three into Queen Nefertiti... Um, really? This is quite shocking to me.
Her transformation began more than 20 years ago after she decided that in a past life she had lived as Queen Nefertiti.
During that time Nileen Namita has spent £200,000 on her face in order to turn herself into a living sculpture of the ancient Egyptian.
The mother of three has had 51 cosmetic surgery operations – including eight nose jobs, three chin implants, one eyebrow lift, three facelifts, six mini facelifts, two lip surgeries, five eye surgeries and 20 minor tweaks – in her efforts to recreate herself in the image of the ‘Beauty of the Nile’.
This is not safe for work: Nakedbooth. Thanks Violet! You always find the best stuff.
If you’re going to be in New York City during fashion week in September, come along to the Indepedent Fashion Bloggers Dress Up Soiree! It’s on Monday the 14th of September, & as well as dressing up & meeting a whole lot of rad, intelligent people, there’s going to be a panel discussion called Evolving Influence: The Future Of Fashion Media. I have been invited to speak, along with Susie Bubble, Wendy Brandes, Crosby Noricks, Helen Zhu, Jessica Schroeder, Tricia Royal, Geri Hirsch & Kathryn Finney. It’s going to be a fantastic event, I can’t wait to meet everyone & babble on about my favourite subject! YAY! We’d love to see you there, so write it in your diary & be sure to RSVP!
Sorry I Missed Your Party is so great. This is how I discovered it: The 2nd Worst Rave I’ve Ever Been To. I love this comment:
I’ve been to several worse than this. At least there is a working sound system.
Interested in knowing what the 99 Most Influential Style Blogs are? I’m ranked at number 30, which is extremely flattering. I am so thrilled to be included, wow! Thank you!
Stung by the Perfect Sting — anonymity on the internet, cowardice etc. Interesting stuff!
The reason some girls stay single... Thanks Evelin!
Songs From High School! Oh, yes! Funny people write about the songs they used to love. This, about Counting Crows, resonates strongly. Aahahahah.
Sooo, as my man and I serenaded each other with “Sullivan Street”, amazed that we both knew all the words after all these years, I realized that, today, to me, Adam Duritz’s voice might be one of the most annoying in history. But to my 13-year old self, he was a poet. His voice filled with all the sorrow, angst and all around whininess that 13 year old girls have. He sounds like an insecure girl who was growing out her short hair-cut. He sounds like a busload of chlorinated swim team kids.
Augnablik is a beautiful photoblog shot by a young girl from Iceland. Merci beaucoup, Valborg! (I love your name!)
These prints of Hindu deities are so adorable & make me smile! As always, Sri finds the cutest things! She is like the genius magpie of the internet!
Gary Vaynerchuk is one of the most dynamic speakers I’ve ever seen. His book, Crush It! comes out soon, & it’s all about cashing in on your passion & learning how to hustle, baby. You can read a sample chapter here... & it’s good.
Anna Wintour forever!
Life, Liberty & the Fursuit of Happiness.
Have a brill weekend!
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Great roundup, sweets!
My songs from high school are half embarassing, half awesome – in the beginning I was into terrible terrible rap music and emo, in the second half I got into good stuff.
Those messgaes are AMAZING – when my mom asks next time why I don’t want a boyfirend, I am sending her this link. AHAHAHAAAA.
“They were very jealous, even if they say they weren’t”
Love&Light
Wow, that voicemail is…I don’t even know the word. Hahaha. Glad I’ve already got a catch and don’t have to deal with that any more.
I totally wish I could go to the IFB Dress Up Soiree! Sigh. Unfortunately, I live in Texas, so!
Aaaah! The adoptable dogs page! I’ve been scanning the adoptable cats page of my local shelter lately, and I really want a cat. Having a good pet in your life just makes things better… But I’m still having dreams about finding my last cat, who disappeared while we were in the middle of moving (she didn’t appreciate the car ride), so maybe I’m not ready just yet…
Also, I LOVE that Anna Wintour interview. The thing is, male bosses are probably expected to be hardasses, you know? They’re supposed to be demanding and expect perfection. Female bosses? Well, I think Anna Wintour is a good example of what happens when a woman is uncompromising in her expectations of very high quality work. I do honestly have some qualms about the whole culture around fashion magazines, but as a professional, Anna Wintour deserves a great tip of the hat from all of us.
Gosh, Anna Wintour is rather fabulous isn’t she? (Mary, I so agree.)
Great carousel! I’m certain I was Nefertiti in a past life but I’d never do all that crazy surgical stuff. It was a PAST life. Now you are meant to live in this one. :)
I came across peopleofwalmart.com this week which is great for a laugh in a kind of soul crushing cross section of society way.
The voicemail.. wow.. I can’t believe people talk like that. It’s creepy. I’m more shocked to see on the comments that a lot of girls shared the same experience. That’s so scary.
Oh lawwwwd, that guy who left the voicemail has been plaguing the women of Toronto forever. Apparently his mission is to “rid the world of feminism once and for all!” so we can finally give in and “WORSHIP THE COCK” (his caps, not mine). Umm…is this real life?
pics.livejournal.com/suspiciou…
I DIE.
Furries? Really, Gala?
I am disappoint.
...let’s not even speak of the fact that I am really afraid of “mascots” and almost had a panic attack.
“Virgo is convinced they have Peking Virus X or whatever illness is most in style that season. Most people figure that a strange rash will go away, Virgo’s can’t help seeing themselves as the mysterious Patient X, afflicted with something so hideous it makes headlines in medical mags.”— this made me laugh! i love the haute and low of virgo article!
and that voicemail was classic, too! haha
Oh my stars Gala.
That voicemail man is CRAZY, haha.
Thanks for sharing. :)
i loved both the video clips. wintour is a bad ass bitch, and i love watching stuff about furries. subcultures are so, so fascinating to me.
and voicemail guy… there are no words.
Oh my God, Dimitri is fucking nuts.
um, disgusted with anna wintour. she is the epitome of everything I find wrong with American culture. focus on style, appearance and fashion, finding value in corporate achievement, and a pompous attitude. the less we hear of her, the better.
Congrats on the signature9 list! =D
As a big fan of your website, I just posted a blog about it in mine. It’s in portuguese though, so I don’t think you’ll be able to read it. I’ll e-mail you a translation as soon as I can, though, just so you know what I wrote. ^^
Great great blog.
xoxo,
Miss Sofia
Whoa, that Nefertiti chick is crazy! I feel especially bad because I don’t think she was that successful.
hahahahaha, the dude on ‘Sorry I Missed Your Party’ with the poodles in party hats (http://www.sorryimissedyourparty.com/2009/08/eharmony-match-made-in-heaven.html) is totally stealing your thunder when it comes to dogs in party hats. It’s Game On, Gala – Hank needs to be hatted out again!
It always makes me laugh that everyone I speak to who says they’ve been reincarnated was once Queen Nefertiti, or sometimes Cleopatra. Isn’t it more likely you were some average, slightly overweight frumpy Scottish woman or something?
I just found a very creative restaurant in Vegas that I think you might like to check out when you’re there. www.dinnerinthesky.com/dits_di…
It’s called dinner in the sky, it looks intense and awesome.
thursdays are my favourite day on your blog :) anyway, i was wondering if you’d seen buggydoo.blogspot.com/2006/03/... before? it’s an incredible piece, i think everyone should read it.
Y’know I really miss ‘style tips’! I wish you’d publish them more often, I love them! The little challenges you give out, too. I also love when you publish posts featuring awesome mix-n-match outfits that you put together and then write little stories about the kind of girl/guy who would wear them. Smile-inducing cute and quirky photos of you grinning like a loon/pulling funny faces/caught in the moment/sporting uber-bizzare yet fantastic outfit combos, rather than posed and pigeon-toed shots of you looking very pretty and sophisticated but rather statue-like and serious. I still enjoy iCiNG awesomely, but I miss the frivolity and randomness.
I love that you don’t seem to live by societies ‘rules’, but at what point does someone begin to become hemmed in by their own self-imposed rules?
I grew to love iCiNG because, for me, I felt you provided inspiration rather than advice; innovative fashion and beauty ideas rather than random individual products with exclusive stockists; fun and original posts which had me wondering what would come next, rather than frequent long lists of internet links; posts with oodles of personality; great little bits of creative writing; proof that it’s possible to dress like an international superspy/ chic granny/ swedish tank girl, and still look insanely awesome; and cool ideas about how to do normal everyday activities in new and fantastic ways!
Phew that’s a lotta things I love about iCiNG! (but not nearly all of it!)
Please don’t let it lose that charm! I feel somewhat like the wild and bright flame that was iCiNG has now been replaced with the reliable AND economical energy-saving lightbulb (buy from bulbs’r‘us for only £2 per pack)! Not necessarily a bad thing- moving with the times, being responsible, growing up etc. ... but sometimes it’s fun to play with fire.
Oh my, Dimitri! That was priceless. The links people posted in the comments show what a nut job this guy really is. Sorry I Missed your party is great stuff too.
thanks gala, for mentioning mystic medusa again. i had her page bookmarked, but kind of forgot that i had it. ;) but now i really enjoy her posts & subscribed to her rss, i will probably also get a daily mystic subscription. do you have one, too? would you recommend it?
haha…gala, i love you to sparkle-pieces, but i demand astrological equality! i challenge you to find something good about tauruses, because everyone always has nothing but bad things to say about us.
hey there Miss Darling (oh how I love that name of yours!), I thought it was about time that I finally left you a comment saying thanks etc. seeing that I read through your entire blog once before and am about to embark on the same journey once again now (incredibly sick and thus bored and lonely as I am right now) because it lifts me up, that’s why. So, as bad as I am with trying to put feelings into words, I just wanted to say thank you and… well, thank you? You’re (awe-)inspiring.
God, how I want to get inside Anna Wintour’s beautifully bobbed head!
Wow! lots of stuff to post. thanks for sharing!
The amount of money spent on that surgery is pretty epic.
Love the new heading! :) Looks great! I also love the focus on Virgos, seeing as I am one myself. ;) Virgos are awesome.
Ooooh Gala, how you do entertain me with your findings and lovely photos.
A few things for you…
First, I am LOVING the new header and I give you and Nubby uber Kudos, especially loving that the photo of you and the camera is is there, it one of my utter FAVOURITES!
SECOND! You must watch this and fast before Disney tears it down! It is a sequence by Walt Disney and Salvador Dali that never made it into the first Fantasia because it was unfinished. Disney cleaned it up for the second Fantasia, but it wasn’t included for some strange reason… www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3KeqJ…
And third Miss Gala, a very rad compilation of instructions on how to kiss. www.sundress.net/stirring/arch…
Lump
P.S. I’m sure you get it all the time, but I love your hair. =D
That photo blog is very beautiful and inspiring.
Geez, that Nefertiti thing is quite scary! She should go to the tanning bed anyways, if she is THAT serious about it…
dear gala, every time i read the word “nonpareil” when i come to your blog, i want to rush out to the chocolate store and eat some! :3
http://www.osheascandies.com/images/Darkpareils.jpg
Congrats on making the list! (:
And that voice-mail.. oh my.
& just like another poster said, it’d be great if your style-tips returned. (:
I think yeehui said it best, I really miss your style tips and polyvore pictures with stories.
I know this is like… your job but I feel like I’m noticing it more recently than before.
Does that make sense?
I don’t know.
