Bad Witch Workout This Weekend… And A Hypnosis Session To Boot!

Last week, I wrote about how we can view working out as a magical practice. Since then, the gears have been turning in my head. I have so many ideas about how to expand Bad Witch Workout and make it super-potent. We don’t want to just work your butt, we want to work your mind, your imagination, and your ability to turn ideas into reality.

Our second Bad Witch Workout happens this Sunday at 3pm, and I’m very excited to announce that this session will be featuring a very special guest, my friend Grace Smith! Grace is an incredible hypnotherapist who has helped me with a lot of issues in my own life. I’m thrilled to bring her expertise into Bad Witch Workout! After we’ve worked out, she will be leading us through a hypnosis session to help lock in our goals, release resistance, and manifest our wildest dreams. It’s going to blow your mind.

It’s still Bad Witch Workout: a killer workout with kickass tunes thanks to one of the most incredible trainers in the city, Garnett Strother. But you’re also going to use all that energy you churn up to create something larger than you. It’s a whole new way of working out, and it’s going to change everything.

You can snap up your ticket right here, and if you have questions, just ask us on Instagram! We cannot WAIT to see you on Sunday in New York City, for a truly magical and transformative afternoon.

Love always,

Introducing Bad Witch Workout: LIVE In New York City!

A video posted by Gala Darling (@galadarling) on

Ever since I started working out with my boyfriend and sharing the videos on Instagram, the two of us have been answering endless questions about exercise. In the time that I’ve known him, my body has completely transformed, and it’s all because of his very unique training style.

Finding the right kind of exercise can be tricky, especially if you’re anything like me. The things that many other people love fill me with a creeping dread. The idea of sitting on a stationary bike while a perky blonde screams at me makes me want to die a thousand deaths!

I started thinking that I couldn’t be the only person who felt this way. What if you, like me, prefer to wear a serious cat-eye to the gym? What if you’d choose Coal Chamber over Coldplay any day of the week? What if you desire Morticia Addams’ hip-to-waist ratio… And don’t mind using a little bit of magic to get it?!

As Garnett and I talked, a vision started to appear in our minds: a room of badass babes doing moves that really work, while listening to Nine Inch Nails and rocking some epic winged liner. The daydream was so beautiful that we decided to make it happen.

I’m EXTREMELY excited to announce that we’re going to be holding a live Bad Witch Workout in NYC on Sunday the 24th of July at 3pm! Come and join us for a killer workout with excellent tunes, plenty of bad witch attitude, and lots of hugs.

Got questions? I’ve got answers!

Q. I’m a beginner/advanced gym bunny, is this class for me?
A. Yes! This class is for all levels. If you have limited mobility or injuries, let us know at the start of class and Garnett will tailor moves for you.

Q. What’s the location of the workout?
A. The workout is in Manhattan, and you’ll receive the exact details via email once you purchase your ticket!

Q. Do I need to bring anything with me?
A. Bring water for sure! A yoga mat will make life easier if you have one, but if you don’t, you can totally participate without one.

Q. What should I wear?
A. Sneakers are a must, but other than that, it’s up to you. Have fun with it! If you come along wearing a witch’s hat, I’ll give you a special prize!

Q. How long is the class?
A. Class is 45 minutes and then afterwards there will be plenty of time to socialise, take photos, and talk about your favourite goth songs to sweat to!

Wanna join us? Click the button below! We can’t WAIT to see you!

If you have any other questions, email us and we’ll help you out.

Morocco, Crêpes, And Mini-Gratitude: An Obsessive Mish-Mash

Gala Darling in Marrakech by David McNeil

This post is very miscellaneous, because let’s be real, getting back into the swing of things after an incredible whirlwind trip can be tricky (to say the least). Thankfully, I seem to have my jet-lag licked, but when you’re used to writing every day — and you take a couple of weeks off — your brain feels thoroughly unprepared when it’s time to get back into it!

Here are five things that are occupying my mind right now…

You may have already gotten this impression from my Instagram, but I fell 100% head over heels slippers in love with Marrakech! It is so sublimely beautiful, so alive, so colourful! We only had two days there which was like torture — there are endless things to do and see there — and I am already plotting my return. (First rule of travelling to Marrakech: take a second suitcase!)

I kept a pretty extensive travel diary, and we also filmed tons of footage which I am now in the process of assembling together, so stay tuned for that!

I don’t think I can ever come close to expressing the infinite joy and overwhelming happiness I feel when I see you beautiful kids Instagramming photos of the book as it arrives, sharing photos of your #radicalselflovedates, and sending me adorable tweets. I love you guys! SO MUCH! Thank you for making this whole project a delight. It is way more amazing than I could have ever imagined.

By the way, if you’re in New York, I’m doing a free book reading and event at Word in Brooklyn on Thursday night! I’m going to wear a really crazy dress. It’ll be awesome. Come out, okay? It would be a pleasure to give you a hug and say thank you!

A couple of days after I got back to New York, Shauna and I were introduced to Le District by our friend Bianca, and it’s my new favourite place. Le District is a French version of Eataly, situated in Tribeca. As well as being adorable, the food is next level. I devoured a mini sandwich with comté and fig jam (YUM) as well as a crêpe filled with honey, butter, and whipped cream. The crêpe essentially exploded and I got whipped cream everywhere — thankfully I was wearing a metallic blue leather skirt so it wiped off easily (thanks, Shauna!) — and had to crouch over a trashcan to finish it off. As we were leaving, a security guard looked at me and said, “Wow, you really made a mess there! Go and wash your hands!” Blush. I did as he said, and when we walked out, I said, “Thanks, dad!”

Long story short: if you’re in NYC, you need to go to Le District. It is awesome.

Don’t forget, I’m coming to Lincoln, Nebraska next week! Woohoo! It’ll be my first time in Nebraska and I’m excited to see what it has in store. I’m speaking at Rise Lincoln on July 9th, and holding a Radical Self Love Salon on the evening of July 11th. (I only have a few tickets left for that one!) All the details are here. I’m packing my travel cauldron: let’s do this!

There is always, always, always something to be grateful for, and gratitude works for everyone, no matter what is going on in your life. It makes everyone’s life better. You could be happy or nervous, relaxed or dealing with anxiety on a daily basis. It doesn’t really matter, because I promise you, beauty is everywhere. It surrounds you absolutely. Next time you feel uneasy and uncomfortable, take a breath and choose to focus on the good things in your life.

Here’s my little list for the day. I hope it inspires you to write your own!

Rainbow planner pages and a box of my favourite black ink pens  This coconut spray which smells wonderful and gives my hair lots of body!  Making birthday plans (DisneyWorld, anyone?)  Jonathan Adler bedding  Fake tan and hot pink nails (best combination)  Having conversations in coffee-shops  Fantastic lingerie on sale (L’Agent’s sale is no joke, check it out!)  Orange Is The New Black  Marriage equality for everyone! HELL to the yes!  Finding rogue sequins everywhere (a hazard of being me, I suppose)  Richard Brautigan’s poetry  Elderflower anything  Walking tremendous distances in beautiful weather  Sunday Riley skincare (it’s amazing)  Black pepper popcorn  This playlist  Watching 50 Shades Of Grey on the plane with Shauna and rolling our eyes for two hours straight, hahaha!

Okay, that’s all from me — I’m about to have a work date with the one and only Veronica Varlow! (We’ll see how much actual work we manage to accomplish…)

I love you,

5 Wonderful Experiences To Have In NYC

Every time someone comes to visit in NYC, I find myself rediscovering the city along with them. In the days before they arrive, I flip through my mental Rolodex to figure out how to show them a version of New York that will fill them with delight. It’s a wonderful challenge, and even though I inevitably end the day with sore feet and carrying multiple bags full of treasure, I absolutely adore doing it.

Last week, my friend Kat (not Rock N Roll Bride, another one!) came to town for a hot minute. I first met her at The Blogcademy in Melbourne, and our friendship was sealed forever when she got us access to the craziest vintage clothing store I’d ever seen. In April, we both attended the AstroTwins Tulum retreat, and got even closer. So when she came to NYC last week, it was the perfect opportunity to repay her for our adventures at that vintage clothing store in Australia!

Below are a few of the things we got up to… And some other favourites just for good measure. I hope these suggestions keep you entertained next time you come to New York!

Cafe Mogador

Cafe Mogador is as old as I am! When a restaurant can sustain itself for over 30 years, you know it’s a goodie. Cafe Mogador focusses on Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine, and there is always something delicious on the menu.

For breakfast, I love their Moroccan eggs (which come with spicy tomato sauce, pita bread, and delicious chunky potatoes), but there’s plenty to choose from, any time of day or night. I’m a little obsessed with their chicken tagine, and they do incredible couscous.

It’s cute, comfortable, and you never feel rushed. Invite your best friend to have a Middle Eastern breakfast and enjoy yourselves!

P.S. Last time I was there, Alexa Chung sat down next to me. No biggie!

One of my favourite shops is Enchantments. It’s the oldest occult store in the city — it opened in 1982! — and it’s all you’ve ever wanted from a magic shop. It’s dark, the floor is uneven and covered in glitter, and cats roam freely.

In addition to their large selection of books, incense, herbs and jewellery, they also carve candles to help manifest your intentions. If you’re in the neighbourhood, you’d be mad not to get one.

In their own words:

One of our most popular products is our custom carved candles. These are 7-day pillar candles in a glass jar. We carve them with magical symbols and your name and astrological sign, anoint them with appropriate oil, and rub metal glitter into the carvings to define them. We place a small offering of honey, iron filings and incense into the jar before replacing the candle. The candles are a complete spell that you use as a tool to help manifest your intention.

They can either make you a candle out of their recipe book — like a Solar Blast (“Helps the Sun come through to cleanse, purge and rejuvenate your entire being. Provides positive energy for all your endeavors. Invites joy into your life”), an Empress (“To invoke an abundance of love, wealth, strength and attraction”) or a Mercury (“Invokes the God of speed, speech, commerce, luck, communication and magic. Opens and closes doors”) candle — or they can create something customised to your current situation.

All I can say is that their candles are powerful and super-magical. You have to visit!

As much as I like to stay downtown, there are plenty of gems — both literally and figuratively — above 14th Street! One of my favourite places to visit is Rock Star, a tiny shop which is stacked to the ceiling with incredible crystals.

Is it the cheapest game in town? No, it is not. But if you want a great assortment to choose from — and to see things you may have never clapped eyes on before — then Rock Star is your place. In fact, even if you aren’t in the market for an enormous amethyst geode, there is something magical about just being near all those crystals. Mmmm.

Rock Star is always my first stop when I’m in the mood to tszuj up my altar. I promise, you’ll love it just as much as I do.

Polaroids in Soho

If you’re strolling around Soho, be sure to keep your eyes open. Take a turn off Broadway down Prince Street, and you might just be lucky enough to stumble across Jean Andre Antoine, a photographer, who — on his slow days — hangs out with his Polaroid camera. For $10, he’ll snap a wicked Polaroid and tell you a story or two. It’s the perfect souvenir from your day out!

Jean Andre isn’t the only person who does this, either. A couple of years ago, the other Kat and I had our photo taken on this same stretch, except the photographer transferred the image onto a piece of paper. It was super-cool, and for that reason, I would definitely recommend scoping out Prince St between Broadway and Crosby St next time you’re in Soho!

Get a private room ($8 per hour per person) at Sing Sing and get ready to let ‘er rip! I was introduced to this legendary establishment by Ophi, one of the AstroTwins. This isn’t like your usual cheesy karaoke places: Sing Sing’s songbook is loaded with greatness (Lana Del Rey, I see you!), and they don’t care if you just hang out and sing for hours. It’s awesome.

Last week, Ophi, Colin, Mui and I spent a couple of hours in a private room, completely sober, belting it out to great hits like Poison, Say You’ll Be There, Ex-Factor, and Real Love. It was great therapy, excellent bonding, and one of the most economical nights out I’ve ever had!

Here’s to having the best day ever!

Love ever,

Two Seats Left For The Radical Self Love Salon This Sunday!

Hi babes! This is just a quick note to let you know that I have two seats left for the Radical Self Love Salon this Sunday. We kick off at 1pm and go until 4pm. It’s going to be wonderful!

There will be magic-making, manifesting, releasing old fears, and many, many rose petals. Even better than that, you’ll walk away with some incredible new friends. (I’m so proud to say that I’m in love with everyone who has ever attended. Such beautiful people.) Now, if you’re a little nervous, and you’re not sure exactly what goes down at a Radical Self Love Salon, here are recaps from New York and London. It will be lovely, and after attending Spirit Junkie Masterclass this past weekend, I have a lot of new things I’m going to introduce to the group this weekend! YAY!

You can get your ticket here, and if you’ll be in town next month, there’s another Salon on Sunday the 19th of October. Once you buy your ticket, I’ll send you all the details you’ll need!

Big love,
