Coco Avant Chanel @ ChinaShop
[ 13 October 2009 ]

Most of us know that Coco Chanel was an important figure in fashion, but why? It’s not just that her fashion house, Chanel, has stood the test of time & continues to dictate moods, cuts & aesthetics. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel truly revolutionised the world of women’s fashion. In fact, she was so influential that she was the only person in the field of haute couture to be named on TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people of the 20th Century.
Coco Avant Chanel stars Audrey Tautou of Amelie fame. It is the story of Coco Chanel’s extremely humble beginnings, & it finishes just as her star is beginning to rise. Starting as a hat-maker, her romantic involvement with various wealthy men lead to her own shop in Paris, where her reputation was bolstered by her customers, many of whom were revered French actresses or aristocrats…
Love letters & feather headdresses,

I’ve been debating if I should go see this movie or not.
There’s absolutely no denying the impact Coco had on fashion. And she was such a classy lady!
Treacle — It’s a really rad movie, very engaging & interesting. You should see it!
I adore Chanel and recently wrote about her on www.hopespringsinternal.com (along with your friend Nubbytwiglet!). She was an amazing woman and I’m so glad you’ve featured the movie about her in this post… Off to check out the article now! :)
I saw Coco Avant Chanel a few months ago and I loved it. Audrey Tatou is so beautiful and plays her brilliantly.
I’ve been DYING to see this movie! I love Audrey Tautou, and I’ve been waiting for her to be in a movie that was really worthy of her (besides Amelie, of course). This looks like it! Also, Coco Chanel seems like a fascinating person…I’m looking forward to seeing it now!
her house is amazing…

I’ve read a lot of books on Coco Chanel, I hope the movie portrays what a truely interesting person she was!
Oh I loved this film so much. It was so different to what I was expecting…. I have a new-found respect and admiration for Chanel – and every time I walk past the Collins St boutique I can’t help but smile and think of her humble beginnings.
Oh! I have been wanting to see this movie. I can’t wait to see it.
Also, I saw this and automatically thought of you Miss Gala: www.amazon.com/My
Agh, I can’t believe I still haven’t seen this film – I adore Coco and Chanel, of course. She was, and continues to be (amazingly) and arbiter of fashion. A Chanel purse and tweed blazer would be amazing! Must go see it this weekend!
Totally unrelated to this post, but I was just checking out your Amazon wishlist (yeah, okay, that did sound slightly stalker-ish) and I realized you wished for I’m with the band and Let’s spend the night together, by Pamela des Barres. Have you got them/read them already? I strongly recommend you do, because they are just incredible. Miss Pam is my ultimate life inspiration, always so free-spirited and amazing. Plus, she got to date Jim Morrison, Jimmy Page and Keith Moon, and that just can’t be bad.
Miss Sofia, you are very right Miss Des Barres’ books are fabulous, I bought them a while ago and they are currently circulating all my friends! In the intro it says something along the lines of “You’ll read this and wish it was your life” – so true!
P.s. off to check out the Chanel article now, cheers Gala
