Cuba Street Carnival

[ 21 February 2009 ]

Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of Wellington’s Cuba Street Carnival. Here’s what I got up to! (The clever among you will spot Jane McGonigal, Ze Frank & Jo of Eye Heart Glasses!) Also, I met SO MANY nonpareils yesterday — more than I can even begin to count! If you came up to me, thank you times a billion, it was wonderful to meet you. You all cute me out like mad!

Love letters & feather headdresses,

  1. I’m gonna have to start using the phrase ‘cute me out’ more, it made me smile. :D The carnival looked like so much fun! Makes me long for my hometown’s little summer fair.

  3. Yay, that was the best day evers. I’m pretty sure those wheatgrass shots are the only reason we lasted 12+ hours! ;)

  4. I cant begin to tell you how many times Ive wised that I saw the poster advertising the Carnival before I bought my non-refundable, non-changeable train ticket to Welly. As it was I saw it about 15 minutes AFTER the deed was done, so now Im arriving two days after the event. Oh well. :/

  5. My that looks like so much fun! And even if you did get ripped off at the haunted house the evening seemed to end very well for you.

I have to say, those wheatgrass shots are pretty cool. We have them here where I live and sometimes they are yummy and sweet and other times they are so gross. But either way I guess they are good for you.

    Thanks again Gala for sharing!

  12. Cute vid. Nice to see the carnival in daylight. I flew home yesterday but didn’t arrive till 6.30 and headed down to see the parade at about 8.
It was way too long, but still awesome. We left about 11 (2 hours after the parade started for anyone that’s wondering).

  15. HOMESICK!!
I’ve always loved the cuba st carnival… it’s like everything that makes wellington awesome gets distilled into one little weekend

Is that the smoothie shop in Manners Mall, under that shady Aztec Finance?

Was once lured up there because it had “Comix Jungle” written on the stairs. Discovered no comix at all, just shady loan shark with a CHAINED SCARYASS DOG at reception. No joke

  17. Ow, Cuba Street Carnival. I was there a couple of years ago (I’m on the otherside of the world now) and LOVED it.

Have you checked out any Fringe shows? I know you’re leaving soon, but the Chit Chat Lounge is free and late night, at the Fringe Bar. Well worth a visit.
