  1. i harbor a secret guilty-pleasure love for victoria beckham. she’s like a drag queen with fabulous breasts (& excellent tattoos).

& this weekend? i am going to rock the skirts that sit at my natural waist!

  2. I absolutely love this outfit. :)

I also like how I’m often one of the first people to comment because, conveniently, I live in America and I’m 15 hours behind you, so when I get online at night, you’ve just posted!

I’m going on a cruise to Canada/Alaska TOMORROW (YAY!), and I’m planning on channeling all sorts of stylish maidens to wow my fellow cruise-goers.

  3. I love that turqouise colour with pink, my favourite colour combination! And i think its awesome how you mix tough things like studded belts with glamorous high heels.

Also, i am coming out of commenting shell! I had been reading your wonderful livejournal for a year before iCiNG arose, and absolutely love you and your writing to pieces. You are so inspirational and i can’t get enough of this site.I am so proud that you are from my hometown Wellington and you have done so well for yourself! Love your work Gala. xox

  4. adorable outfit! being incredibly unathletic myself, I’m not usually a fan of sporty outfits. you’ve made me come around, with yourgreat eye for color and accessories. my favorite part of the outfit is the crown brooch on the pearls; I found myself wondering where you bought it and love that you assembled it yourself. you’re so inventive!

tomorrow I’m heading off to Budapest! I’m bringing with me quite a few summery dresses- black lacy “moth dresses” (francesca lia block’s words, not mine), flowy short eyelet lace ones, and my favorite, a gorgeous silk one from anthropologie (http://www.pomegranita.com/images/posts/anthropologie-early-spr07.jpg). also, lots of silver jewelry, including the earrings and pendant made from antique typewriter keys. I’m excited to explore the city, which has recently become a haven for the ‘alternative’ set. what is very intriguing to me are the small, impermanent cafes and bars are popping up… they’re called kerts, or ‘ruin gardens’. I found an article on them in the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2005/aug/20/hungary.budapest.guardiansaturdaytravelsection) and I am fascinated by them!

  5. That color looks great on you! And I love how you did your eyeliner…I’m horrible with liquid eyeliner. :P
My dad’s birthday is this weekend, so I’m going with him and my brother to a Japanese restaurant. I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to wear, actually. I have no idea! :D

  6. I’ve said before that I LOVE that hoodie – if it’s the same one (in some corridor with a green dress on). Awesome necklace – looks like your logo; are they related? And also – aww you’re so pretty when you take your glasses off! ;-)

  7. i love the color of the hoodie! so cute, and the crown is just perfect with the pearls.

  8. I have just been going through a heap of your pictures and I have to say I love where you wear your belts.
I have one of those body types where if I try to put a belt any higher than you have it here, it will just slip down anyway. i’m so glad no everyone is wearing belts only under their boobs.
PS: Found you from Cosmo. Haven’t read your article yet because now I’m too busy looking around iCing. Much Love!

  9. entirely cute outfit. hoodies rule.
it’s my school ball tomorrow night! i’m wearing my grandmother’s ball gown from the 50s, it’s black with white roses, french lace.

  11. i love the pinned crown brooch onto pearls, it looks smashing!

tomorrow night i’m going to be making my stage debut… i’m going to be playing a paris hilton-esque character, which means fishnet stockings, huge sunnies & a mini, baby!

  12. dorkas — Oof, me too! I wish she had a regular tv show… or something… I want my fix of ridiculousness!

Andrea — Thank you sweetheart! It’s so interesting thinking about when people read this. When I posted on livejournal all the time, I had this theory about the ideal time to post for optimal comments, haha. But that was when everyone who read it lived in New Zealand, & now people come from all over the place, so I’m stumped! I just try to roll with it, haha. & wow, enjoy your cruise! My mother just went on one for her 60th birthday, all around the Mediterranean. She had an incredible time, I’m sure you will too!

Pinky Mcgee — Ah, merci! I don’t think I am an impeccable dresser by any standards, but whenever I look at outfits I like, the thing that always appeals to me is when things are just a bit… off. Unpredictable. Different. Surprising. So I try to do the same, as much as I can! & hooray for coming out of your commenting shell! Not so scary, huh? :P Thank you for your kind words, that’s very sweet. Kisses to you! Are you still in Wellington?

voltaire — Hee! The brooch has a very loose catch, which makes me a bit nervous, I don’t want it to fall off & prick me/smash/get lost! I think I need to fasten it with a bit of blue-tack maybe… That Anthropologie dress is GORGEOUS! (I love how intense the model is. Fabulous.) You must be so excited about going to Budapest, that’s fantastic. It sounds like you’re going to be suitably decked out! & that article is amazing. Wow, I’m so envious! Take lots of pictures!

Valerie — A hint! MAC’s Fluidline & an angled brush. This is where I tap the side of my nose & say “stick with me”! Haha! You should dress Japanese style & learn some basic phrases that you can use on your waiter!

Nadine — Actually, not related! I like the whole crown thing but the crown I use for my logo is different… it’s a story I don’t want to tell online, but when I see you in November I will spill the beans! ;>

Song — Bonjour! Yeah, if you don’t have a really defined waist/hip area, then it doesn’t seem to work so well. I have a couple of belts I wear around my waist but mostly it feels kind of uncomfortable, & I’d rather feel good… But I love pyramid-stud belts, I think it is hilarious that they were stolen from punk culture & are available EVERYWHERE!

bluebird — That is a BEAUTIFUL dress, what a score! I say yes to knotted pearls, but then… I would ;D

simone — Remember to toss your hair! Break a leg, honeypuff!

  16. this weekend i’m hitting up the county fair to get my hands on the once-a-year delight, funnel cake…

i have no idea what i’ll wear, but it will be delicious

  17. reading your blog has finally had a practical application in my life!
I was told that I look like Victoria Beckham last night, and I was able to have a pretty decent conversation about her off of what I’ve read here. haha thanks!

    <3 Johanna · Aug 11, 08:18 AM · #
  18. Hayley;Fatality — Your Thomas the Tank Engine sweater sounds amazing! So cool!

audrey — I’ve heard about funnel cake, but I have no idea what it is!

  19. I don’t know what I’m doing this weekend, but I just went shopping today, so hopefully either a fabulous black dress, or a dandy-rific white shirt/black vest combo, with lots of gold rings. :)

    <3 Kristen · Aug 11, 12:19 PM · #
  20. I was going to explain funnel cake & then realized that I knew the word very well, but didnt know what it is exactly, nor have I ever eaten it… lol but I can offer you this

It looks really yummy, but then again I love all fried and sugary foods… =D

  21. i thought the brooch was the same one as in your logo tooooooo, & spent a while scrolling back & forth comparing the two before realising they weren’t the same! it looks gorgeous; do i see green detailing on it that matches that hoodie?!

tonight i’m going to a friend’s birthday party. apparently he’s got a very preeetty new girlfriend, who i’m dying to meet. after reading this: “The life of Coco before Chanel is set to become a film, with Audrey Tautou due to play the role of the French designer” (!!!!), i’ve decided to dress as a 1900s french madmoiselle in tribute :]

    <3 annaloren · Aug 11, 04:47 PM · #
  22. Kristen — Dandyriffic! Cuuuuuute!

Mari — Oh my god, it’s like heart attack on a plate! Haha! But I know what you mean, sweet fried sugary foods are the best. I am obsessed with these Spanish donuts (churros) which are long & fried & they serve them to you with a dipping bowl of warm chocolate. Oh my godddd. I want some now!

annaloren — It has clear rhinestones which flash pink/yellow/green, you know? So it kind of matches! ;D Your party outfit sounds fantastic, wow!

  23. that top is my most FAVOURITE colour in the whole world.
    i love it.
