Daily outfit

This is the world’s most simple outfit! I bought the waistcoat last month sometime, but it has taken me a long time to work out how to wear it. Waistcoats aren’t very “me”. (I also bribed — using cupcakes — my amazing friend Nadia to secure the buttons on it. I can’t even sew a button & I don’t really want to try!)

<3 Blue & white striped halter-neck top
<3 Black waistcoat
<3 Black shorts
<3 Manolo Blahnik high heels

Daily outfit

It is stinking hot today, & I am about to go to a fancy restaurant for lunch so I have to change into something a little less… tattoo-centric.

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  3. Simple is beautiful, Gala! You always know how to work it! :P
Wow, “waistcoat” sounds so much fancier than “vest”, I love it. And I love your tattoos! It’s such a shame that tattooed people have this nasty (and totally false) reputation, hmmmph.

  4. Thank you, thank you!

I feel kind of weird showing my armpits in restaurants, as a general rule. It just seems a bit uncouth…

  7. Ooh Gala I’m completely in love with your tank top! What’s the brand / where did you get it? I need to know :)

  8. This is lovely! I adore the heels with the shorts. I also have a thing with my armpits in restaraunts. May I add that your hair is looking extra wonderful today =)

  11. I’ve been um-ing and ah-ing about getting a vest – sorry, waistcoat! – but i think i very should get one.
also, where are your shorts from?! The places I shop at are so hopeless – who would have thought finding a pair of plain black shorts would be so difficutlt? (Since I refuse to wear the hotpants that Supre sells =S )

  12. Gala,
First of all, I just adore your site. You’re so very inspiring to me.
Second, I want to thank you for showing this outfit. Ever since I first saw Kate Moss’ line for Top Shop, with her waistcoat, I fell in love with them. I’ve just never been able to really figure out how I could possibly wear one. Now I have at least one idea.
I just have to find the perfect one.

  13. That outfit is so cute! I love the ‘sailor’ vibe it’s got going on. ;)

    <3 Trisha · Nov 21, 07:57 AM · #
  14. I bought a waistcoat too, and so far it only looks good over two tops (one of which is a plain white wifebeater)... just can’t figure it out at all! Over shirts it just seems so stuffy, and T-shirts are a bit casual and/or bulky for it I think. Once you’ve figured it out, pls show some examples — am feeling like I’ve wasted my money and I hate to do that…

  15. Wow gorgeous as alwaiz!!!

I was wondering…do u have any friends tht are an australian size 12-14?? If so, maybe you could do an article on how to dress beautifully whilst making your curves look flattering?? With pix and stuff??? Just an idea and im sure many people would appreciate it!!

    ;D
    xx

  16. oh wow! you look amazing gala.
i love it when you show off your tats!

you hair is kicking some serious buttocks today also. can i ask what product you use to give it such volume? i have such thin hair (sad!), and never know what to put in it to make it look great (and not greasy argh!)

    big hugs
    beth

  17. Isn’t it sad that people have to cover tattoos to be viewed as ‘proper’ or posh? Mine are on my wrists and therefore impossible to cover in hot weather, so everyone thinks I’m a scary rebel, even though my tatts are really delicate and feminine!

I just spent about 3 hours looking for a waistcoat just like that for my job interview tomorrow. Stupid summer party season – no one is carrying work-style clothes!

Oh and you look so good in shorts! And you can’t say that about most people, so it just proves how utterly gorgeous you are :)

    <3 Song · Nov 21, 08:35 AM · #
  18. i would love to see that vest with cute buttons joined by a chain. heh heh!

til this day i’m still in awe of your tattoos. you look great with them and i’ve always wanted a small one, but i’m terrified it’ll hurt and that i’ll regret it one day.

    <3 gilda · Nov 21, 08:51 AM · #
  19. ...your outfit makes me want it to be summer again soooooo bad.

    <3 Jamie · Nov 21, 09:34 AM · #
  20. You loook so good in that outfit!!

I love the waistcoat. You sure figured out how to wear it well.

    Kisses.

  21. it’s like 36 there today isn’t it? ahh i don’t miss melbourne today that is for sure!

  23. Where’d the waistcoat and shorts come from? I love them!

    <3 emilyy · Nov 21, 10:48 AM · #
  24. I love the waistcoat! and I am jealous of your hot weather. It was around 50 degrees F. where I live today, and it’s been getting colder.

    <3 Mandy · Nov 21, 10:57 AM · #
  25. EmmaRose — I don’t, actually! Well, not anyone who want to be dressed up & publicised. Then again, I don’t have a lot of friends here, haha. If I make some friends of different sizes who are willing, I would love to dress them up for the site, so I will keep it in mind!

emilyy — The waistcoat is from an eeeevil awful horrific chainstore called Valley Girl (aiee), & the shorts I’ve had for years. I bought them in a store called Starfish in Wellington, New Zealand.

beth — the hair volume? Hee. It’s called “damage”. But I use a bit of generic Fudge hair product to give it a bit of shape. My hair doesn’t need much work.

    <3 Gala · Nov 21, 11:04 AM · #
  26. I will admit I have some shameful Valley Girl products as well. And Supre too… Oh god.

And I do love the shorts, heels and vest look. I think it’s the only way I ever wear my vests! You look super cute.

    <3 Natalie Faye · Nov 21, 11:46 AM · #
  27. I have to ask, what do you do with your armpits? Do you just shave, or wax, or use some sort of depilatory?

Is that just weird to ask? :)

    <3 Amy · Nov 21, 11:49 AM · #
  28. Amy — Hahaha. No, it’s okay! I shave :> I nicked them this morning though, ouch~!

    <3 Gala · Nov 21, 11:59 AM · #
  29. Ooohh, yummy! I think my favourite way to wear a waistcoat is over a little dress, but I will have to experiment with other things as well. I do so love the sailor vibe here.

(And I’m terribly curious to know what your “fancy restaurant” outfit consisted of too.)

    <3 Nadia · Nov 21, 02:41 PM · #
  30. Nadia — I loved your waistcoat-over-dress ensemble on Sunday! My fancy restaurant outfit was totally dull — AA striped v-neck, waistcoat, black maxi-skirt, cowboy boots. I need to learn how to dress myself all over again, now that the heat is back…

    <3 Gala · Nov 21, 02:57 PM · #
  31. I must say, I am totally crushing on your hair right now! Its Such a pretty colour and Brings out your eyes beautifully.
I love waistcoats to bits and pieces, especially With Jeans and a cute T-shirt!
the weather has been horrendous, I’m SO not ready for the hot hot days yet! xx

    <3 Haels · Nov 21, 08:40 PM · #
  32. yay daily outfit!!.....it was a long time since the last one…....you look great!! :) and I just bought a pair of black shorts last week…planing to wear them to a fashion week in my city

    <3 vanessa · Nov 21, 08:49 PM · #
  33. Woah! Nice and simple -I like it :)
    Your tattoos are way awesome!

    <3 Camilla · Nov 22, 12:14 AM · #
  34. GASP!! This is too cute!!

As for the lunch thing, I would probably wear the vest over a dress like one of these:

    <3 Iman · Nov 22, 02:35 AM · #
  35. God I LOVE waistcoats! I used to have tons in my ‘career-woman’ days. I need to get some again, for over my dresses, and also over polo shirts (those horrible stretch-poplin ‘fitted’ shirts never fit me).

It was SO hot yesterday! When I left it was 36 degrees, but apparently it dropped to 20 after the southerly change came through . . .?

    <3 Nadine · Nov 22, 03:07 AM · #
  36. Aw, don’t hide your tattoos! It’s not your fault that you’ll appear fancier than the restaurant itself!

    <3 lene · Nov 22, 03:41 AM · #
  37. Hey, this is a great look – although (constructive criticism…) not sure about how the cut of the waistcoat works with the line of where your wonderful tattoos finish – a little blank space left there looks somehow stand-outish. On the flipside, love the simple lines of the outfit and am drooling over the shoes!!

    <3 Kowhai · Nov 22, 04:17 AM · #
  38. Eek! The waistcoat is LOVE! I wanna kick myself now for not buying the GORGEOUS all-black sequinned mini waist coat from H&M…bit on the expensive side though…and I’m a student so no-money-for me ;_;
I wonder if waistcoats would look good with long sleeves….?
    hmm…I don’t think so.
regardless, your outfit is so cute! and that must have been your shortest list of clothing items..ever.

    <3 Zainab · Nov 22, 04:20 AM · #
  39. I got a new waistcoat for my birthday (it was on Tuesday). It’s turquoise with yellow turtle-shaped buttons :)

    <3 ElizaMolly. · Nov 22, 11:41 AM · #
  40. i love the simplicity, it really suits you and its not boring because you have the tattoos
AND the heels fancy it up.
    i think its cute :)
