Daily Outfit -- 28th November 2007

[ 29 November 2007 ]

My vintage t-shirts arrived from Ebay today. I bought three. This is one of them. One of them is a Kentucky Derby shirt, & the last one says “Grease” across the front. Major love!

P.S. Please excuse my dorky gimletness. (“Gimlet” is my new name for weird people. It’s a term of affection, though…)

  2. OF COURSE! & thanks, too! I love this t-shirt soooo much. It’s really soft & thin & dachshunds are my favourite dog ever! Though I almost feel like I should make up some patches to put under the word “dachshund”, which say… “in a sandwich” or “on rollerskates” or “trying to run up stairs”!

    You wrote about accents the other day and I have to say that your accent is utterly fantastic. Why? Because weirdly enough I have exactly the same one! Even though I’ve spent most of my life in Australia, people often mistake me for being British/Canadian. Weird huh?

  8. It’s interesting to see that your writing persona may not be the best reflection of your external self. Would you say that is true? You sometimes seem so totally sure of yourself when you write, and yet in the video there is something less confident and more endearing about you.

    Do not despair! I mean this in the best possible way. Also, you are following in the footsteps of many great writers and yet “gimlet“ish people (to use your term): JJ Rousseau, Emily Dickinson, Thomas Jefferson. I’m sure there are many, many more…

    I really enjoyed the video and seriously look forward to seeing more of them.

  9. So what is your secret guacamole recipe? I’m from California, where everyone is very opinionated on the subject.
    My perfect guac recipe is: combine a few Bacon avocados (FAR superior to Hass), El Pato hot sauce, salt, fresh lime juice, and a little sour cream for richness. Don’t mash the avos up too much. YUM!! :)

    Oh, yeah- I know you watch it, too so I just wanted to say that I am in love with Dani from A Shot At Love!!! How sweet is she? I would totally go gay for her.

    Genevieve — I don’t think it’s a lack of confidence, it’s really more to do with the fact that I did that in one take & it was totally unscripted! Writing is much easier because you can delete all the “um ahh” stuff! Haha!

    Ruth — Dani is growing on me. I don’t usually go for the butch girl thing, but she seems really lovely & genuine. Oh & my guac recipe is really simple… avocado, salt & pepper, lime juice, garlic, onion, tomato. So tasty & very hard to screw up ;D

I’m a NZer living in the UK and another NZer that I just met didn’t recognise my accent the other day so was surprised to find I was from there – but all my british friends tell me I still sound v Kiwi!! Your accent still sounds pretty NZish to me, Gala – it’s in the ‘i’. When you say ‘listing’ at the beginning there’s no doubt in my ears that you’re from NZ!! (I’ve been away from home for a couple of years now, living in a part of the UK where there aren’t many kiwis at all, so I think my ears are closely attuned to any hint of NZness!).

  18. We have the same accent! Lol, I think it’s a Kiwi accent…not the ‘Yeah bro, not even ow” sort of one mixed with a bit of a little Australian-ish? I lived in Aussie for two years but I’ve been in Auckland for the last three years.

    Gosh looking at that makes me want to chop all my hair off and dye it ridiculous colours again. But I’ve just spent the last 2 years “fixing” it, so my hairdresser would, as she has pointed out, kill me. Boy that’s pretty unprofessional of her, huh.

  24. mmm guacamole, is the thing that makes me not to miss Mexico (?) I like that yours is not tex-mex, and more mex!!!! yeah. I can give you my recipe is hass avocado (it tastes more), silver or white onion (pleanty!), chilli (from holland, it’s not too hot), a lot of lime, and sometimes for extra crunchiness, cucumber. My boyfriend thinks I make the best guacamole, hihi.

    Oh, and can you show your Grease Tshirt? I’m a HUGE Grease fan!!!!!

    Your glasses are great, sometimes I wish I had vision problems so I could wear lots of different glasses, with different shapes and colors, yay!
    And yes, guacamole is very underrated. One of my favourite thing to do in the kitchen is smash avocados, I can’t help it!

  32. OMG Gala, I have a mini-dachshund and we taught him to run up stairs this past weekend at my parents’ house!! It WAS the funniest sight! He was scared at first, and kept making little running starts and then chickening out, until finally he just went for it!

    I also like in Kentucky, so A++ on the shirts!

  60. Gala, you adorable gimlet! If you’re ever in Atlanta, Rosa Mexicano makes yummy guacamole. They chop the ingredients tableside and smash them in a molcajete (volcanic rock bowl that looks like a pig). I don’t even like guacamole and I devour theirs.

    My mommet is a Kentucky Derby fanatic. Every few years we have derby parties to watch the race and dress up in funny hats. :)

  63. so would you think I was a total stalker if I requested a video tour of your apartment? Simply because the bits in the background I’ve seen look amazing and I’m such a sticky beak about where people live and work.

    You do still have a kiwi accent, just mixed with something weird – a gala-tian accent maybe? I was born in Australia, but I speak with a slight british accent (my parents are poms) and if I talk with someone with a thick british or kiwi accent I start to take on that accent. It’s horrible – if I watch kiwi tv shows I end up talking like one for days and everyone looks at me funny. When I speak with my friend Clara in england I end up with the thickest brighton accent by the end of the call.

    the excuse me after the sneeze? Most adorable thing I’ve seen all day. and i’ve been looking at my little ponies (ordered a childhood toy that I lost when I was 5 and have missed ever since and some My little pony pyjama pants from webundies.com) and fluffy kittens all day, so that’s saying something!!
