It is so hot here today! I’m about to go to the supermarket & post office (oh yes, très très chic!) & then meet my friend for dinner & cocktails for a big catch-up before the start of 2009!

Daily outfit

P.S. Here’s what I wore on this day last year. Same shoes! But it feels like a hundred years ago.

  8. Oooh that is THE MOST ADORABLE DRESS/SLIP COMBO EVERRRR. :D
Purple shirt sounds excellenttttt. Someday this week I’ll do it…

ALSO: I need your adviceeee. Badly. I’m going to a friend’s place tomorrow and she has a little beach by her house. Its the midwest, so still cold, but do you have any amazingly inspirational ideas of what we could DO? Besides eat cupcakes and sprinkle glitter into the water? Last time we released ‘secret fairy wishes’ into the lake, but what should we do this time? We were both brainstorming and immediately thought, ‘Let’s ask Gala.’
    Thanks darling starry-eyed sparkly-face!

  9. PS—Olya: It is SO FAIR that you are ‘stuck’ in Chi City… Some of us are counting down the days until we can MOVE there! :D
Chicago is my HERO of LIFE. Don’t ever complain for living in such a magical place…

  13. Gala, have you ever tried China Glaze nail varnish? I first tried it because I couldn’t find a nice Tiffany blue shade in any other collection, even OPI (which is a brand I’m rather obsessed with). In any case, the China Glaze formula is beautiful and the shades are incredibly unique… lots of jelly finishes and holographic colours! It’s less pricey than OPI, too… but with equally cheeky names! (My Tiffany blue is called “For Audrey.” I wonder if it’s a shade Ms. Hepburn would have ever rocked.)

  14. Julie — Yes ma’am! They’re not my most comfortable shoes so I don’t wear them all the time. Also, now when I compare them to all my other shoes, they seem short, & I always want MAJOR height! Haha.

Sprinkle — I saw your question on the other article! I do see everyone’s comments, I just don’t always have time to reply. I don’t know what you could do at your friend’s place, maybe someone else here has an idea!

becca — Yes, I have! I LOVE China Glaze’s For Audrey or at least I love the look of it, I’ve never been able to get my hands (ha!) on any! Boo!

  15. this post just reminded how fucking quick the year has gone. seriously, can you believe it is ’09 in like, 2 or 3 sleeps? crazy, crazy.

  16. Gala, oh please don’t worry about it! :)
Sorry for being so obsessive. I just saw that you did a new post super shortly after I asked so I thought I’d ask again. :) I know thats my second time doin it and I’m super sorry. Promise I’ll stop being obsessive!

ive had the flu and so im feeling terribly gross…
i already ordered some stuff off of victorias secret haha. any other ideas?

  18. @Sprinkle: Chicago is a fantastic city! I’m also counting down the days until I get to move into the actual CITY (rather than the area surrounding it). I love the people and the places, the venues, and everything right down to the public transit HOWEVER the weather is inexcusable and completely unforgivable. It was blizzarding a week ago, 2 degrees (F) with a windchill of, oh, about 19 below. Two days ago it was fog, yesterday, RAIN! All day it did nothing but downpour! And, at night, it was 54 DEGREES (F)!! WHAT IS THAT?!

    <3 Olya · Dec 28, 10:20 PM · #
  19. Olya: Thats so exciting. I went last summer and have a few more years of school before I can pack up and move down there…
But yes I’ve heard the weather in winter is insane… I have my Yahoo! Location set to Chicago so it always tells me the Events and Weather. (I’m obsessed)
Then again I’m kind of an inside person and love winter… But it would still be tough… How do you survive? We should exchange emails…

    you look meowww!

  21. Ugh, it’s sick how many deep gray polishes I have. Along with Brand New Skates, I also had to pick out the dark, sparkley Baby It’s Coal Outside and Essie’s shimmery Over the Top.
Ah, once again my compulsive shopping rears its ugly head.

Olya: But isn’t it great how there’s no more snow on the ground? All the cars have been magically freed! Chi-city looove.

    <3 raqueleza · Dec 28, 10:58 PM · #
  22. Ohh I adore the Ricochet dress, all week I have been avoiding Ricochet and shops of the like for fear for buying too many things but I think you may have just made me conquer my fear.

  27. Loving the first shot, nice way to mix it up a little! How on earth you can balance like that on one leg whilst poking the other leg out and squating is beyond me, but you look stunning and effortless!

And I love the ring and the Opi nail polish!
    Opi is so great =]

  28. Gala I know you said your hair needs some love but how do you keep it so bright pink between visits to the salon?

Do you keep some of the Special Effects stuff for yourself and just “rebrighten” everything once in a while?

I am trying to go bright red and I am hesitant about going the whole hog with the bleach. I just want to do everything in one step! Is that too much to ask?

I would have thought Special effects would last longer than a week on its own – considering the $6 LIVE colour I bought before it lasted well over 2 weeks and that was only meant to be 6 washes (I wash my hair almost every day). Disappointing!

Maybe I will hunt through your archives first to have a look if you’ve posted about this before – but if you haven’t, it would be nice to have a post on how to maintain the bright do :-)

    <3 Esz · Dec 29, 12:58 AM · #
  29. Why Miss Darling I do declare!

Love the new poses! I know, I know, the other one makes your legs look longer ;-) – but it’s fab to see you creatively stylin’ up your daily outfit posts! Keep bustin’ a move baby – we love you!!

    <3 Nokomi · Dec 29, 01:16 AM · #
  30. Ah gala, I do love your long hair but you were really adorable with short hair.

    <3 Lucy · Dec 29, 01:26 AM · #
  31. @Sprinkle: As far as weather goes, Chicago is a complete fiend. Period. (But not quite…) I complain more around this time of year but I really belong in San Francisco’s loving sunshine and mild temperatures. Really, when the weather brightens up it’s nothing short of GLORIOUS. That’s just not any time in mid-November through mid-May.
    (:

Also @emails etc: Are you on FaceBook? Or such… ? lulz

  32. a hundred years ago or not, i STILL want that cardigan…..

    <3 melissa · Dec 29, 02:02 AM · #
  33. Gala, your tattoo of the twins looks so pretty! Tim did a very nice job on it, I like that your arm tattoos seem to match in style now. If I were going to get arm tattoos (and I’ve been thinking about it!) I would have to get them done by the same person. It would drive me absolutely insane if they didn’t match in they way they were drawn.

    <3 Rachel · Dec 29, 02:33 AM · #
  34. Love the nameplate. Very chic indeed.

    <3 Kate · Dec 29, 04:03 AM · #
  35. Damn, somehow I can’t manage to hate you as you have Blahnik’s. You are just way too fly.

    <3 zilla_gordon · Dec 29, 05:08 AM · #
  36. I picked up that nail polish at Myer today, because you mentioned it on Twitter I think and I almost bought it. It’s heaps nice! I got purple instead though :) I think the Brank New Skates shade would look sweet as on top of a layer of black polish. :)

    <3 Amelia · Dec 29, 05:15 AM · #
  37. love it!

    <3 Persephone · Dec 29, 05:26 AM · #
  38. Its that hot outside? Wow we can iceskate here hihi I love Dyrberg/Kern designs, always simply stunning.

@Sprinkles: Bake the cupcakes with secret little things inside like hearts, stars, m&ms, bells etc and give them hidden meanings. Great fortune telling fun for new years!

    <3 amika · Dec 29, 05:30 AM · #
  39. This outfit is pretty damn sweet but I’m distracted by the awesomeness of the shoulderless cardigan you wore last year! Want!

    <3 Joanne · Dec 29, 06:06 AM · #
  40. i like your poses this year compared to last year:)

    <3 meeee · Dec 29, 08:43 AM · #
  41. @Olya Fabulous. :) Sounds like a party. I love San Fransisco too, in fact I was considering living there instead, but Chicago just seemed more magical…
I do not have a facebook because I’m old school and refuse to conform, haha. (Not really I just haven’t gotten around to making one…) But I do have a blog, and you can get to it by clicking my ‘pink’ name under this comment! :D

@amika YES! My friend and I have actually done that, I posted the idea on my blog… Great minds think alike. Isn’t it the best thing EVER to do? I think so… :)

    <3 Sprinkle · Dec 29, 08:56 AM · #
  42. AMAZING nail polish and I’d steal that ring from my mother too! I think you look devastatingly chic last year AND this one.

    <3 Sam Bard · Dec 29, 09:33 AM · #
  43. Oooh, that nameplate is perfection. Do you just love it with every fiber of your being, or what?

    <3 Sal · Dec 29, 09:38 AM · #
  44. I’ve been playing Rock Band compulsively since we got it on Christmas, and every time I create a rocker, I try to make her hair color match yours. It’s just so exuberant – like a bunch of wild berries were partying too hard one night and, when the party reached critical mass, they all exploded from bliss. . . right into a bottle of hair dye? Sounds improbable, but that only makes it better, right?

    <3 Jenny · Dec 29, 09:47 AM · #
  45. That dress is absolute LOVE :)

    <3 Sio Ni Muiri · Dec 29, 09:49 AM · #
  46. Gala! We have the same nailpolish. Fo’ christmas I got boxes and boxes of OPI nailpolish because that’s the way to go (:.

    <3 Catherine · Dec 29, 12:03 PM · #
  47. Wow. You should know that the first pose is sort of gravity defying. And in heels? Thigh-ache inducing! I should know, I tried it.

I love the old days when you would wear those Manolos nonstop.

(I also about had a heart attack when I saw that biggie smalls was messaging you from gangster heaven.)

    <3 Jasmine · Dec 29, 12:08 PM · #
  48. absoloutely gorgeous. love the dress.

  49. Gala!
    You are tres magnifique!
I hope you have a wonderful new years eve!
Thank you for all of the wonderful articles you wrote this year, it has been fun to live vicariously through your adventures from time to time :)

  50. Natasha Lee — I know, it’s totally nuts! I am so amped for the new year though, yay!

    tiny donna — Happy biiiiiirthdaaaaaaaaay!

pierrot — Give in to the excitement of Ricochet! & go soon, before all the good stuff disappears!

miss:hannah — In the central city, near the QV complex!

Lou — It must be all that yoga I do, hahahah, not that I do it anywhere near enough! Haha! & thanks. I love OPI too!

Esz — I put Special Effects colour through it about once a month, & it lasts really well. It’s weird that red SFX only lasted a week — that can’t be right! It lasts me forever! One good trick is to put some of the colour in your conditioner, so every time you condition you top it up a little bit. I haven’t done that yet but I’m going to soon.

    Nokomi — Aw, & I love you!

Lucy — I think my hair was way too short in those photos, it makes my body look out of proportion. I need more length than that to balance me out, je crois!

Rachel — Yup, he did a really good job. It’s not even finished yet but I’m super-happy with it. I can’t wait to get more stuff, aaahhhh!

    Amelia — I agree! It’s quite a weird colour, I had to do 3 coats (!) & even then it’s almost a bit see-through in parts…

Joanne — I bought one the other day which is really similar except way more awesome, I will photograph it soon!

Sal — I really, really do!

Jenny — That is so cute :D I have been feeling a bit blah on pink lately, but I know I’ll miss it as soon as I change it!

    Catherine — Yay, nailpolish twins!

Jasmine — The only reason I wore the Manolos non-stop is because I didn’t really have any other heels! Haha. My collection has expanded greatly since then ;D & Biggie LOVE!

robin — Thanks gorgeous, you too!

  51. Aww, don’t think I was trashin’! A lady’s gotta start somewhere. Like I said, I loved it!

    <3 Jasmine · Dec 29, 04:33 PM · #
  52. YAYYY – brand new skates love!
(by the way, this is the third time you & I have been wearing the same nail polish. It’s starting to freak me out to be perfectly honest.)

    <3 Allison · Dec 29, 08:11 PM · #
  53. Thanks Gala I thought you would be redoing it every now and then.

I think I know what my mistake was. The instructions on the bottle and website say to dry your hair thoroughly before you put the dye in – but everywhere else I looked they say do it with damp hair. Hmm. I still have half a bottle left (I have short hair) so I will try it with wet hair next time.

    Thanks for the reply!! :-D
