  1. I love the black jumper, too wonderful.

I wore jeans, a black wife beater, and pink w/ white polka dot ribbon wedges. Then when I went outside I wore my pink fleece northface. It gets really chilly this time of year up here.

  5. This look teeters somewhere between tough and feminine…I like it! The headscarf really makes all the difference, I think.

Today I wore: purple slouch ankle boots, zigzag pattern black stockings, my new Dena Pezzano green/blue/purple/black tartan satin bubble skirt (what a mouthful!), a black polo shirt and blue/green eyeshadow. To match the skirt. :)

  7. You look great! I especially love the way your sleeves work with your tats. And I like the location, too!

Today I wore a denim-blue-and-off-white floral-print dress that was $20 from Shanton and makes me feel like I’m about to go swing dancing with an American sailor stationed in Wellington for R&R during the Second World War.

  11. I was going to wear my new pink dress (one that almost looks like I stole it off Molly Ringwald from the end of Pretty In Pink), with my white peeptoe shoes, but alas, I forgot to take it to the tailors! So instead I stayed home, and wore my Rainbow Hearts nightdress and Pink Couture slippers (both from Peter Alexander).

  14. I don’t know why I keep thinking in the first photo you look like a sexy version of a nun.. It looks great though – I love those wedges.

Today I wore black and floral ballet shoes, black cotton semi-flared dance pants,a black singlet with a thin black wool jumper and a malachite chip necklace. Somehow wearing all black with just a small dash of colour makes me feel all arty and creative :) I needed a beret!

  15. Love the outfit!

My outfit today is ultra-boring, but yesterday I wore a pink suede motorcycle jacket and leopard-print skirt over black tights with chunky black boots. I was going to the last day of Teen Vogue’s Fashion U (it was soooo amazing…i met Tim Gunn, Doo.Ri, the girls of Vena Cava, and the Teen Vogue editors), so I had to wear an extra-special outfit.

  16. OMG, scented necklace, I want onee!!

Weekend was way warmer than today here..I’m just wearing jeans, chucks, a long sleeveless shirt from atmosphere, and a shiny grey sweater (College demands comfort xD). Yesterday, though, I followed your advice on wearing pearls on the hair: I looked (and feel) like a princess :D, great for going to the annual book fair :P

  17. Just stumbled across your blog and wanted to say thanks. My sense of style is a bit uncertain lately, a manifestation of change in other areas of my life. In search of some ideas for renewing my style I came online, and was greeted with so many lists of essential items, must haves, what every woman needs, blah blah. Your site is a breath of fresh air, and exactly what I needed. Advice on how to find my own thing and do it with confidence, rather than filling in some mind-boggling prescription of what style should be.

  18. Warmth? I’d nearly forgotten the concept in these wintery parts. I’m shivering like mad, despite my black fleece-lined leggings, black sheepskin boots & GIANT sweater, emblazoned with the British flag. Jealous of your heat down under. I’m envisioning myself strolling the streets of Melbourne in the sunshine, keeping my eyes peeled for a certain pink coifed head.

    Stay cool

PS, My Nippies came & they will be the first thing on me once it warms up again!

  19. Gala, that dress, that outfit – Mapplethorpe should be taking pictures of you, I swear.

Today I wore my Mattisean stripety T and my cool bootcut jeans from Frank Rocca in Fairfield. They’re a great colour, they fit perfectly and I love them. I also briefly wore a straw boater.

    <3 Sir Frederick Chook · Oct 30, 05:03 AM · #
  20. Today I wore…

Jeans, a white tank top, a green t-shirt, a lighter green long-sleeved shirt, a pull and bear brown sweatshirt, a kind of blazer from volcom, a purple-ish jacket from pull and bear, black converse and tiny silver flower earrings. It is ver cold here in Mexico and I had class very early in the mornig.

And yes, I looked like a stuffed bear. But a cute one.

    Kisses.

  21. sarah decay: fleece lined leggings!!!!! thats the best thing i ever heard of ever! dont they make your legs look puffy though?!:D

    <3 immie · Oct 30, 08:14 AM · #
  22. hmm i think i got a bit carried away, i was thinking of like the stuff that goes inside ugg boots but realise now how silly i am

    <3 immie · Oct 30, 08:16 AM · #
  23. immie: They are the best thing ever, verily! They are not excessively puffy, though they are pretty thick (more so than regular leggings or wool tights, for instance). I wonder if they make them with that Ugg lining…I would suffer puffy legs just for the warmth I imagine that would bring!

    Stay cool

    <3 Sarah Decay · Oct 30, 10:18 AM · #
  24. I love these pictures! I don’t know if it’s because you’re wearing less eye makeup or something, but your face looks so fresh…I can’t think of another way to describe it!
Today I wore my school uniform shirt (a royal blue polo), a black 3/4-sleeved shirt underneath, dark wide-legged jeans, and black high-top Chucks. Yes, so exciting. :)

    <3 Valerie · Oct 30, 10:36 AM · #
  25. Wow…tres chic!!

I wish more women would be bold and adventuresome enough to do the headscarf!

    <3 Jack · Oct 30, 11:01 AM · #
  26. i was out on the town today too, catching up with old friends and exploring the nicholas building. _
my red-black striped hellcat punks tee, self-made dark-denim wash shorts, gray leopard print cardigan, a silk head-scarf as a scarf/head-scarf and my vintage triangle-ish sunglasses.
oh! with my 10-hole drmartens, and a slouch bad [to carry my crap around in]

i must say, im quite jealous of how you pull things off, but i’m slowly working on my style as it in [i’ve taken your advice and am currently taming my wardrobe and am working on my style-journal as we speak].

    i hope all is well.

  27. I love that dress!! And your tattoos look like lace trim on your sleeves!! (or maybe i have bad eyesight…)
Yesterday was way hot in Sydney!! So i wore my black bubble skirt with Sesame Street t-shirt and gigantic hair with too-much hairspray =D

    <3 pinkr0ck · Oct 30, 12:31 PM · #
  28. I do like the wedges!

I wore: a gray sweatshirt dress from BB Dakota, a thin cotton “nightie” underneath in a floral design (it was chilly and I was lazy). Accessories: Brown cowboy boots, jade-green and gold necklace, red lipstick. It was a good “Mondays-are-fantastic!” outfit.

    <3 nessness · Oct 30, 12:46 PM · #
  29. You are definitely one stylish gal!! You always pull off the coolest looks with such aplomb! :)

Its getting cold in this part of the world, so I bundled up in my favorite, colorful sweater today: flickr.com/photos/elegantmusings/1799265909/

    <3 Casey · Oct 30, 01:33 PM · #
  30. Well, I’m in Boston, so… Much more clothing than that.

I wore my pale blue Lorax (Dr. Seuss!) t-shirt over a white pointelle long sleeve with boot-cut jeans, a brown belt, and brown slip-on Converses. Added a periwinkle scarf and my black North Face fleece while outside, and my Vy & Elle messenger bag for class.

Actually, you should check out that brand for bags, Gala. Don’t know if they sell them anywhere near you, but they’re pretty awesome. The bags are made out of recycled BILLBOARDS.

    <3 Rachel · Oct 30, 02:56 PM · #
  31. Today was one of the first truly cold days up here, + as such, it was high time to raid the sweater trunk! I put on a green-blue long sleeved shirt, and my very favorite utilitarian sweater- orange rib knit from bannana republic. Also my trashed jeans and old work shoes. All in all, a very satisfyingly functional day.

    <3 Beth · Oct 30, 04:43 PM · #
  32. today i wore a long white t shirt a friend screen printed for me, it says have heart, and is one of my favourite things.
also my old jeans that are more mends than original by now, but still fit perfectly. never throwing them out.

    <3 bluebird · Oct 30, 06:41 PM · #
  33. RECYCLED BILLBOARDS, Rachel?
I am SO on that. Thanks!

    Stay cool

    <3 Sarah Decay · Oct 31, 04:34 AM · #
  34. Today I wore my favorite blue shirt that makes my waist look teeny-tiny, with a gray sweatshirt edged in lace, jeans, and Converse. When I head outside, I’ll add my trench coat and sunglasses. It’s casual and functional, but still cute.

    <3 Kristen · Oct 31, 06:50 AM · #
  35. Thank you sweethearts, one & all! You’re such a stylish bunch :D

Anna — The jumper dress is from Starfish in Wellington, NZ but I have owned it for a couple of years. The label is Obu… don’t know if that is any use to anyone!

A — Thank you so much! I think there are some items most people need, but there is a lot of flexibility in that. Not all of us work in offices, you know? I do my best to present a realistic view of style!

Sarah Decay — I saw a picture of Victoria Beckham from a while ago with the caption “Posh Takes Her Nips For A Walk”. I thought of you!

Rachel — Thank you for the bag suggestion, I will have a look-see!

    <3 Gala · Oct 31, 01:16 PM · #
  36. You’re so good with head scarves, turbans, etc.

  37. Gala,

When you ordered the necklace from faeriesmak, how long did it take to reach you? I paid for a couple of necklaces from faeriesmak in early january, but have not received them yet. Did it take that long for you?

    Thanks, K.

    <3 Kahlia · Apr 9, 04:17 AM · #
  38. Kahlia — I never ordered from her, what she sent me was a gift, so I don’t know how long it takes for her to fulfil orders. Flick her an email!

    <3 Gala · Apr 9, 04:29 AM · #
  39. Hey Gala,

I did email her. She, very sweetly, is sending a replacement for me.

    Thanks!
