aw i love the dashes of pink amidst the black. lovely. i heart turbans and head scarves fashioned like turbans, and it’s all because of you! i dyed my hair back to black from white blonde recently and i don’t regret it one bit. i think it’s the hair colour that suits me best, even if i do look a bit like i did when i was a 16 yr old goth.
oh wow!!
i was wearing something exactly like this yesterday!
btw, please dont dye your hair black! We all love you with the pink!!! :)
xxx
I love the pink accents! and is it bad that your turbin makes me think of Little Eddie from Grey Gardens?
Um, you look really really good with black hair in that pic. Why would you regret it? Too hard to change color afterward? Because it looks great!
(Personally, I miss your lavender hair.)
I LOVE that skirt – you look wonderful – like the world’s coolest beatnik!
Am sending you an email today :) Thinking of you A LOT lately.
you still look great with black hair, but keep your pink! trust me, if I didn’t have to work for a company &/or worked for myself i would dye my hair extremely bright & beautiful colours constantly!
plus once you go black it’s so hard to get back to a light colour! pink totally suits your personality (i think!?)
xx
I really love this look, Gala. I’ve been meaning to say also, that I really like your glasses. I’ve just found out that my occasional glasses have to become all-day glasses, so I bought myself a funky pair. Almost everyone I know has complimented me on them! So, I’m having a bit of a love affair with my specs at the mo. As for dying your hair, isn’t black quite hard to get rid of when you want to change again? I would have thought it ran contrary to chameleon tendencies? Whatever you decide, I know you’ll look fabulous!
Hmmmmm….don’t dye it black!!!!
You know how its that hardest colour to get rid of once you do it…i’m still trying to get rid of mine.
I have started to have urges too…..but i am resisting them, well trying to….
Its so difficult cos i’ll see someone out with wonderful shiny black hair and then i want it so bad but i know red hair suits my skin tone better…..i just look like a dead person with black hair lol
Pink suits ya doll

Let’s be turban and New Rock twins. :D
Suuupar cute!
sportsgirl is really random when it comes to the odd nice thing; my dear bernard has a black t-shirt in some man-made material from there. it’s at least 15 years old, but it has aged very gracefully indeed to my utmost surprise. (as you can see, age and gender binary issues aren’t issues in our household!)
superb outfit!
sportsgirl is very good for the odd accessory. i bought some fabulous yellow armies (is that what we’re calling gloves without hands? ) from there. they’re admired by many :)
Oooh I love this outfit. Def something I would wear too…. But sadly, twas 30 degrees here today. I think summer has officially arrived!!!!
We have no Sportsgirl here but I am heading to the “big smoke” in a few weekends time. I might have to squeeze in a visit… Any other hott chainstore tips, Miss Gala?
Kx
Ray — I think you look fabulous with black hair, it really makes your eyes pop & your skin look wonderful — not at all like a 16 year old goth ;D
jessabee — Ahhh, cute, we must be psychic twins!!
Mandy — Not bad at ALL, Little Edie is one of my fashion icons! I even decided that if I got a dog, I would call it Edith in tribute :>
Annie — Yeah, just that it’s so permanent. My hair is pretty damaged right now & it wouldn’t take another load of bleach. I’d be a hairless freak! Argh! I miss my lavender hair too, but again, my hair is too damaged to do much about that right now… Boo!
Ammu — Yay, I’m looking forward to it! Did you read that I got my ears pierced? I will be able to wear your earrings in 6 weeks (& counting!!).
Tasj — I think I would get sick of the black really quickly, & it’s just so permanent! I also love the pink (or purple), it stands out a LOT. & I kind of like that my signature is pink hair, you know?
amypalko — Thank you ma’am! Good work on the glasses! Having a great pair of glasses makes such a difference to how you feel about your appearance, I find it is really easy for me to feel dowdy if I’m wearing glasses I don’t feel good about… & yes, the black would majorly screw with my chameleon tendencies, which is why I am trying not to do it!
joleeeeeeeen — Yeah, I am pretty sure I won’t do it ;D Let’s stay strong, we’ll be the anti-black-hair-impulse-dye crew! A bit of a mouthful really, haha…
Nadia — Done & done, baby!
Opium — Thank you sweetness!
nana — I love Sportsgirl! We had it in NZ yeeeears ago but then it shut down, I was really surprised to see that it still exists in Australia! But it’s a great store actually, there are such good surprises to be found. Your loverman sounds fab, I adore any man who can wear women’s clothes & not be weird about it!
dee dee — Armies, hmm!! I just call them arm-warmers, but whatever floats ye olde boat! They sound marvellous, I bet you’ve had a lot of wear out of them this winter!
Kristy J — 30 degrees, my god! Where are you?! Sportsgirl is definitely my favourite chain store over here, though MNG is pretty great too (it’s called Mango in Europe & they have some brilliant stuff at good prices).
You totally rock that turban look, Gala! :) I just love it; makes me want to wear one (but I always look awful with my hair pulled back from my face. rofl)!!
And I love your pink glasses too! I recently got a new pair of frames, and as I was picking them out I kept thinking “I wonder if these look kinda ‘Gala-like’?”! I ended up with a sleek (similar shape as your’s), black pair with hot pink interior details!! :D
Have a great weekend!
Your ‘brows look great!
I love the black/pink combo! Something I do often. :) Where do you find such nice leggings? I have been searching for some in vain… what I find are usually much more bulky than what you seem to have. Either that, or they are very thin to the point of being tights instead of leggings.
I love that skirt, I’m urging to have one like that (I can’t keep on stealing skirts to my sister xD)...and btw, your eyes are so beautiful ;)
Thanks a lot for responding my mail, it made me so happy! :)
Stay PINK! It suits your personality to a T!
I sympathize. I’ve been wanting to dye my hair black too, but it is so permanent, and I’m quite attached to my crazy curly head o’ hair. I’d rather not kill it with bleach trying to un-black it.
LOVE that turban. You could put a little sparkly pin on there and look so regal! I need one!
And those boots are very hot. I’ve been lusting after them for some time now.
Oh don’t dye it black! I understand the desire though, I’ve been itching to dye mine black (instead of the rich plum or fiery red that I normally wear), but the pink is so you. :)
P.S. I also love the color accents on this outfit too. You make me want to wear my pink shirt today. I may have to give in to that urge. ^_~
You look so dramatic with black hair,~I love it!
Love the turban on you!
i remember when you had that black wig and it made your eyes pop out sooo much! you should go black and do a turquoise chunk or something!
So we all know that you’ve evolved quite a bit over the years (Recovered Goth) and I was just curious if you would ever do a post about Gala’s of the past. Or about that other name that you used to have. (I’m so, so curious!) And tell us things like how you manage to have a bunch of holes in your face and smoke cigarettes and still look as flawless as you do today! HOW does one accomplish such a feat?!
Of course you’re not obligated to answer. I’m just nosy…or a “Curious Monkey” as the boy puts it.
Oh Gala, you with black hair & glasses = me at 22… blunt fringe and all.
I still have the black hair… pink was my favoured colour last year for about 8 months, but work would freak if I rocked up with Cupcake or Atomic pink…
sigh
I’m off to Perth for a wedding (and shopping spree at Sportsgirl, it seems!) soon and the bride has the most gorgeous pink and black hair. I can’t wait to see how it ends up for the wedding!!!!
Gala, I am living in the very delightful (translation – remote, hot, dirty) town of Kalgoorlie – “The Gold Capital of WA” – Lolz! Let me know next time you’re incredibly bored and I’ll tell you how I ended up here :)
Kx
Casey — Aw, I bet you look just fine! Maybe your face needs something extra, like stronger eye makeup or red lips? Your glasses sound HOT though, the pink interior will show just enough to be exciting. Yay!
Lou — Thank you, ma’am! I am still getting used to them but I like the way they look very much :>
Aimee — I actually bought mine from Supre, which is an (evil) Australian chain store. They were only twenty bucks & are pretty good quality. I don’t have any other ideas of where to buy them, unfortunately! It’s always worth putting your hand inside the leg & pushing against the fabric to see how opaque it is, though…
fran — Merci! I have owned it for yeeeears & it’s had a lot of wear. It’s a good basic, it goes with pretty much everything. & no problem, it was my pleasure!
faeriesmak — Hee! I will for the next wee while!
Chesney — Yeah, I am going to hold back! I know I would regret it really soon after… I love the turban too! I am going to have a search for nice brooches to pin on the front of it, I actually had a look today :>
E. Black — Yay, I love to think of people wearing something influenced by me! It’s like being a fashion designer or stylist on a reeeeally small scale, haha!
Kylia — Hmm, yeah, I like the way it looks too… but it doesn’t feel like me anymore, know what I mean?
WendyB — Thanks babycakes!
katie — I still have that wig, you know! Maybe I’ll bust it out…
Shauna — Hmm, I don’t know that there’s a lot to say! I was goth & depressed most of the time, not much else to it! Pretty boring, really. Also, most of my lip piercings have closed up, as well as the tunnel in my ear, & I don’t smoke anymore. Maybe I would have a cigarette in summer if I was outside & drinking & being social, but I haven’t smoked in months & don’t miss it at all. My mother has really good skin which works to my benefit, but I’m not at all flawless!
Pants — The photo I linked was pre-2001! A loooong time ago! I’m sorry to hear that your work is so conservative, hope that one day you can rock the pink again!
Kristy J — Ooh, I love a bride with crazy-coloured hair! Have fun!
So cute!!! I love the first photo with that lovely smile. Also the black/silver bracelet – you know I’m gonna ask if there’s a detail shot floating around somewhere . . .
And yes, you are totally a stylist, on a global scale! I don’t know if you’re familiar with the movie ‘The Commitments’, but it has the line, “Who’re your influences?”. One of mine is definitely YOU! xoxoxxx
