iCiNG Day -- Announcement!

[ 5 September 2007 ]

I want to say THANK YOU to everyone for your thoughts & comments regarding International Dress-Up Day here! It was really great to hear your feedback & to know that you’re all still keen to participate in some kind of celebration. It was also hugely motivating to get your suggestions & to feel your enthusiasm!

So, with no further ado, i.D.U.D. is no more!

Instead, I have decided to instigate…

<3 iCiNG Day <3

Long live iCiNG Day!

iCiNG Day will occur quarterly, on weekends. This allows us to make the most of it — if you’re working or otherwise engaged on Saturday, you can always do it on Sunday or Friday night! I’m also going to give you as much lead-in as possible, so you have lots of time to plan your adventures, outfits, etc.! Since it’s only happening four times a year, this should help ensure that we make the most of it every time.

iCiNG Day will be different to i.D.U.D. in that it is more of a celebration than a dress-up occasion — a celebration of all the things iCiNG is about. The themes will be quite open, to spark the imagination & get a wide range of responses! The themes will be more based around an idea than a particular aesthetic. The idea is that you work around the theme, however that suits you. As always, you are MORE than welcome to get your friends together & have a fabulous time, & if you want to document the occasion with stories, video, photos, macramé or anything else, I’d love it if you sent it in!

I am also looking into posting the images in a gallery. We have the technology, & we’ll make it happen! Hopefully I’ll be able to hook it into an RSS feed, so the pictures will appear in your Google Reader (or other RSS client). Yay!

<3

The first iCiNG Day will be on the weekend of November 10th & 11th 2007, & the theme is “I <3 ...”

What do you <3 ? Maybe you could throw a party in honour of your favourite poem, draw Salvador Dali’s face on a cupcake, paint a city you love, make a video in praise of moustaches, create a shrine to Vivienne Westwood, write a story about your incredible grandmother, dress in celebration of Alice in Wonderland, have a circus-themed picnic, or make a photobooth sticker collage…

<3

<3 The second iCiNG Day will be on the weekend of February 9th & 10th 2008.
<3 The next one will be on the weekend of May 10th & 11th 2008.
<3 After that, iCiNG Day will happen on the weekend of August 9th & 10th 2008.

I haven’t picked themes for those yet. After iCiNG Day #001, we can discuss how it went & what improvements we could make in the future, as well as think about themes! Sound good?

I hope you like the changes… as always, I love to hear your thoughts!

P.S. For those of you who asked about the slumber party (complete with webcams & chat!), it’s still on the cards! I think it will be something separate, but I need to work out a way to engineer it…

P.P.S. I will be changing the banners on the participate page, but if anyone would like to design something for iCiNG Day, please do so & email it to me!

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  14. Lovely! I enjoy that its more of a celebration of ourselves. It will start getting colder around here in November, and this will certainly help cheer me up amidst the dreary weather.

  17. Ahh, I’m so glad you all like the changes… It’s hard to switch something up & start from scratch, especially when you’re trying to retain the elements people like but make it easier/more accessible/more fun.

I can’t WAIT to see what everyone does, I think it’ll be a real cause for celebration & a fabulous occasion to go all out! & I am really looking forward to seeing Edie’s boarding school pictures, hee!

  21. Oh, Gala, I LOVE YOU! The first iCing day is on my birthday, November 11th! I must plan, I haven’t had a birthday party since I was….7!

And it fits as I’ll be turning 17 this time Atleast I’ll be legal in the Harry Potter world!)

I can picture it now..everything is going to be pink and purple with delightful shots of green.

  22. You’re marvellous! I’ll miss i.d.u.d., but this sounds fabulous. I’m thinking…cherry pie/red velvet cupcakes, wearing cutlery on our heads, utterly mad fancy dress, and Julie Taymor’s amazing movie, Titus. A Titus Andronicus party. This is something loved by myself & all of my friends, and I’ve wanted to do this for ages…I’M SO EXCITED.
