  1. Eee! I’m loving these contests! Thank you so much for organising them, it’s seriously awesome.
My favourite Virgo is my dad. He’s all kinds of lovely, and after a cancer scare earlier this year, I’m even more grateful that he’s still well and cheerful. I love him to pieces, it’ll be wonderful to go and stay with him and my younger sister for a week over Christmas. Aww…

  2. GALA DARLING, OBVIOUSLY!!

    But otherwise:

My dear friend hori: photographer/doll-lover (http://koganemouche.deviantart.com/), artist (http://psyence-kyo.deviantart.com/), and incredibly nutty friend.

I’ve known her for around a decade now. Every time we see each other in person it’s in a different city on a different continent (first it was London, England; then Tokyo, Japan; most recently Toronto, Canada).

She’s creative, spastic, always changing her hair colour, she parties with Japanese rock stars, and she once saved my life. I love her to itty bitty pieces. ♥ ♥

  3. I have to say, my mummy. She’s hilarious, has the best taste in movies and clothes, is an inspiring artist, is TOTALLY supportive of whatever crazy path I choose, and is my bestest friend ever.

  4. Haha— As much as I love you and your site, Gala,
my favorite Virgo is and will always be my mother. Because even though she’s overprotective, I still love her. We’re best friends. She works so hard, and then still finds time to bake Christmas cookies with me!

Second and Third would be my friends Jenn and Rachel.

  5. My favorite Virgo is my dad. He’s my best friend in the whole world and I call him obsessively every day simply because he understands how crazy I am! That and he has always been so super supportive of me no matter what decision I make. He reads my blog and always writes me long emails about what he thought of my articles, he was really excited when I decided to switch my major to journalism, and he spoiled me as a child..BADLY. Yet I was always a socially awkward kid and did not have a boyfriend until college—in the meantime my dad was always the one to take me to movies, museums, and festivals. I only saw him on the weekends but he worked really hard to make my weekends special. He also encouraged me in my education and we played trivia pursuit endlessly. I don’t know if I would be the girl I am today if it wasn’t for my dad. He is the greatest man I will ever know.

But also my lovely friend Caitlin. We met this year in my environmental studies class and instantly bonded while debating :).

  10. My favorite Virgo (besides Gala and Nubby, of course) is my best friend Alyssa. We’ve known each other for about 12 years now and they have been fabulous. She always knows how to make me feel better (long island ice teas and cosmos and coffee house dance parties after a breakup) and she accompanies me to virgo extravaganzas 4 hours away from home. She and I can sit and be silly together and laugh about nothing (case in point: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH_Bm4…). She and I lived together for 2 summers while working at a summer camp and they were probably the best summers of my life. She’s also the one who introduced me to this blog! I love love love love love this girl. XD

  11. Besides y’all, Jimmy Fallon! I’m a little embarrassed but when I was about 13, I had THE biggest crush on him. Witty, funny, cute, I knew what was up. I even had a Jimmy Fallon light switch (still there ‘til this day). I met him once. He had no idea how much I was in love with him.

  13. Ooh i can name up some famous celebs ( ;)like you ) but the Virgo i know the best and rocks my stars is Linda Starlight www.lindawillemszoon.nl/ We met in school almost 10 years ago she was standing next to my toiletdoor and told me my pee made the most terrific noise aka melody. I know kind of weird eh, i was a bit flabbergasted by her confession but we hung out and seem to love the same music, boys and fashion. Occasionally we came to school looking at one another in shock as we were dressed in the same colors or clothes (hear hear virgo power!) or called each other on the phone when we were just thinking about each other or listening to Billy Corgan (teen idol) I miss her! Afther school we both attended different artschools and we kinda went our own ways. But we found away to still keep in contact and our virgo-star-power will never stop shining. We cried this summer drinking coffee, unhappy with our love lifes it was great bonding again. She is my Virgo Witch with great advices, crazyness, gorgeous long locks and just a great friend.

  17. My boyfriend is my favourite Virgo because… I just love him! He’s a typical Virgo in that he’s very intelligent, logical, and straight-thinking, with an amazing memory! He perfectly complements my Cancerian tendency to be over emotional, moody and forgetful…

  18. My friend Piney, because I have only known him since I have been with my boyfriend, but in these past 18 months he can ALWAYS cheer me up, and once I’m in a grump that is quite a difficult trick! He is funny and always tries to go drink for drink with me, without knowing I switch vodka and orange for plain orange after 2 drinks, whilst he keeps drinking! He will always dance with me when my other friends are being boring and he is just generally ace!

    Sunshine & Sparkles!

  19. It would be a little repetetive if I said “Gala and Nubby” (Though you two definitely are around the top of the list), so I’ll have to say Tim Burton! The runner-up to him would have to be Stephen King. Droool.

  20. Oh, unfortunately I don’t have any good friends or family that are Virgos, so I’ll have to say that my favorite is Ingrid Bergman! She was iconic (starring opposite Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca!), beautiful, and gracious (just like you and Nubby)!

  21. I’ve just realised I barely know any Virgos in real life, so aside from yours and Nubby’s gorgeous selves, I think my favourite Virgo has to be Stephen Fry. I can watch any TV show he’s on and enjoy it, his blog is a great and hugely entertaining read and his books are simply amazing!

There are few people in the media these days who are as intelligent, thoughtful and downright hilarious as he is, and although I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him in person, people who have all say he’s fabulously down-to-earth and a really nice guy. He certainly seems that way on Twitter!

Thank you Gala for giving me an excuse to enthuse about one of my heroes!

  22. Ha! My favorite Virgo is myself! Born on September 13th. Who wouldn’t love to be a Virgo and be in such a great company? I used to despise being a Virgo but I learnt to love it. Especially that there’s a major mess in my horoscope and it seems that except being a Virgo and therefore being an exceptional, one of a kind person, I am even more unique! I have to love it, if even stars and planets say I’m awesome!;)

  26. My Darling new husband!!

He is the most fantastic Virgo I have ever met. It wasn’t too long into our first date that I thought ‘uh oh, I am not prepared for this’, then proceeded to fall madly in love with him. I didn’t go home until four days later and now three years and a wedding later it feels like our first date has never ended.

It is difficult to write this because words are simply not enough to describe how disgustingly fantastic he is in every single way. He loves me for who I have been, who I am and who I will become and makes me feel completely comfortable in discovering and being exactly who I am.

So I am all for the Virgo Power! Yay!

    Love.

  28. Wow this was so hard there are a so many fabulous fabulous virgo’s. You and Nubby of course are 2 of my favourites heehee.

Most notably though would be my friend Kristen she’s a labour day baby and she is so impeccably stylish, gorgeous and completely OCD. She loves to dance to some could R&B, make everybody laugh, speak french with a parisian accent and most of all she is ridiculously flirtatious.

As far as a celebrity my favourite virgo would be Tori Amos. She is raw sexual power and of course ridiculously talented. She can sing and play 2 instruments when on stage. She’s funny, she’s honest, she’s philosophical and she’s a little bit kooky which is something I always love about a person.

My honourable mentions would be Michael Jackson and Mother Teresa.

I definitely have to say him because I watched him religiously every day when I was little. haha

  31. I’d have to go with two icons of Rock N’ Roll: Mister Elvis Costello and Miss Joan Jett!

Miss Joan Jett has had a long lasting spot in my life, both as a musical inspiration and love and as a fashion icon. From playing in Rocky Horror, to her rocker girl anthems, I can’t help but feel tough, sexy, seductive and able to kick any ass when I’m listening to her tunes. Plus who doesn’t love an advocate?

And Mister Elvis Costello, for both his ability to have a long-lasting career, continue to influence the face of rock music, and for his sense of humor. I was even recently reminded how much I loved him as I watched “A Colbert Christmas: the Greatest Gift of All.” How many musicians will compromise their artistic integrity to get eaten by a bear or wear an elf costume?

  32. Greta Garbo

The definition of glamour. A woman incredibly true to herself, retaining control over her personal life even when spotlighted – modern celebrities could learn a thing or two from her!

  33. My favorite Virgo is my husband! I’m a Capricorn, so we’re both earth signs, which makes us a really strong team in business type situations. He’s also wonderfully level-headed. While I tend to be more anxious and over-analytical, he just takes things as they come. He’s not obsessed with material possessions, but he understands the need to live well. Rather than buying a lot of cheap stuff, he’s picky and insists on quality. That comes in handy for me because he appreciates when I buy nice clothes and doesn’t give me a hard time about it. As an earth sign, he’s fairly well grounded, but he really knows how to have fun. He’s imaginative, and while he may look like a serious guy, that just makes his wicked sense of humor more surprising and lovable.

  40. well other than the wonderful gala and nubby combo (double the virgo goodness), i would have to say myself (surely there isnt any shame in some blatant self love?) i’m an august 24 baby so i just sneak in there (on the day or one day after the sign begins, depending on which zodiac calendar you take). i love the fact i’m a virgo. i pack for holidays 2 weeks before i leave, i cant do my uni work unless i have cleaned my room first, i live for order baby. i cant live without my diary or my fab macbook. i thrive on stationary, organisation and the internet. it drives my boy batty sometimes, but i wouldnt have the borderline ocd organisation any other way.

  41. My exboyfriend/bestfriend Brendan. He is an amazing person. We dated for two and a half years when we were around sixteen, moved off to University and remained best friends. We are forever playing videogames, going out for tea, snuggling and being an ear when the other needs to bitch or cry. We’re both dating other people right now, but out SO’s have learned that they are not to be jealous or trifle with Brendan’s and my friendship – it’s something too important to us and platonic enough to not be a threat. :]

  42. My dear heart
    I realise is a Virgo
    My favourite one

I just realised that my boyfriend is a Virgo. He’s my favourite person anyway but his Virgo traits that enhance this are:

    Compatible with Capricorns (e.g. me!)
Intelligent (cue long rambling talks about the universe and theoretical physics)
Practical (excellent at DIY hence making our home a divine place to live)
Fussy and perfectionist (who want perfect people anyway? A concept I’m sure Jarvis Cocker – another virgo- would agree with).

  45. Hugh Grant ... the man that made me fall in love with the Britain… & believe that the kind of big, magical, sappy & romantic love, the kind you find in the movies, that that kind of love is possible, for real. He is self destructive and wonderful and … he’s the reason I know I like boys too ;)

  46. This feels a bit weird, but at the same time really nice… I think I have found my Virgo soul mate. Over the past 5 months we have been talking every day and pretty much all day. It’s like we agree on EVERY SINGLE THING! I used to think it was a little far out, the whole Virgo thing (I am a Virgo myself, no less) and I never really thought that it would matter much. But this guy. Man. I want to talk to him all the time! Even now when we are halfway around the world from each other we manage to talk so much! We even watch each other sleep on web cam! It’s a bit silly, but I really love it. I never feel lonely even if I am in a foreign country where I don’t know anyone or even speak the language. It is so nice to have someone to talk to who can follow your train of thought! Ah, yes. His name is J. He is my favourite Virgo.

  47. While I’m fond the of the Michael Jackson/Pee Wee Herman combo exclusively for the deathly pale/creepy factor, I choose…

Roald Dahl, not only for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory etc, but because in my writing class we had an hour long discussion on his use of creepy/sneaky “inappropriate” items in his children books. Furthermore! He also wrote the short story “Lamb to the Slaughter,” an odd favorite of mine since Sophomore year of High School.

So yes, I choose Roald (pretty fly name, too!)

  48. my mother is my favourite virgo, for real! she’s super giving and wonderful. when my dad passed nearly 20 years ago, she stuck it out and brought me up as a single mom with help from her own parents. since then she’s been strong enough to deal with her own parent’s illness, her father’s death, and even a bout of breast cancer (which i’m glad to say she’s in her 5th year since her surgery!). she’s probably the stongest person i know. always willing to help and never asking for anything for herself. i wish i could be more like her, all the time.

  50. My favorite Virgos besides you and Nubby? I have to choose Mother Teresa for one. How can you not admire a woman who dedicated her life to helping the poor, the sick, and the disadvantaged? People of all religions and races can follow her example.

Perhaps this is WAY to big of a leap, but you could say that you and Mother Teresa are spiritual soul mates in a way! You’re both doing your part to make the world better, in different ways. :)

Another Virgo I’d have to choose would have to be Mama Cass Elliot. She was one of the singers in the ’60s group the Mamas and the Papas. Here’s a pic: img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/8… I love her because she had a beautiful voice, and was one of the first big, beautiful famous women that plus-sized girls could look up to!

Oh! And one more… Anne Bancroft from The Graduate. I’d let her seduce me any day. She is just so gorgeous in that film. And what a sense of style! I’d kill for that leopard-print trench coat! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/alltherage/images/2007/09/12/bob_willoughby_anne_bancroft_and_du.jpg She’s a style icon no matter what age you are.

She is a perfectionist. Kind of conservative. But most of all, she is super-reliable. If I ever need anyone to talk to, she is there. And she won’t be super two-faced about it. I loooove Katie. Love love love. Too full-power. All the way.

  52. I have two favorite Virgos:

My dear friend Alyssa, whom I’ve known since age 14, who is a witty, charming and beautiful artistic genius (and insurance agent). She has mastered the art of putting together the perfect sassy outfit and her homemade Marie Antoinette Halloween costume a few years ago came equipped with real-life cupcakes.

My other favorite Virgo is activist Margaret Sanger, who is famous for introducing contraception to poor Americans and lobbying for legalization of disseminating info on family planning.

Who knows if that’s even the right word! hahaha. he also calls me randomly throughout the week (usually when he’s in the airport, travelling for work, on on his drive home) for literally 2 minutes. he usually just wants to tell me that Ben Folds is playing on the Jimmy Kimmel show tonight or that my car’s oil needs to be changed, and then he just hangs up! it’s hilarious, i get a kick out of that guy :)

  57. My dearly departed grampa, most definitely. He was a stoic, strong man who was fiercely loyal to his family and instilled in his children and grandchildren a clear understanding of respect. He stood up for what he believed in, always spoke his mind and defended his honor and that of others whilst maintaining composure and courtesy. Despite his strength he was incredibly sweet, generous and kind; his blue eyes always sparkled like he was holding some sort of happy secret. I never got to know him as well as I would have liked to, but credit him in part for my own unwavering devotion to those I love and what I stand for.

I had just broken up from my lad ov-a-long-time-relationship variety and was spending the day in a sobbing heap on my couch when I hear a knocky-knock on my door…

I opened it to find a friend of a friend, COMPLETELY dressed as the Hitcher from the Mighty Boosh (complete with green face, huge Polo for an eye and tailcoat) with a big bunch of flowers and season 2 of the Boosh. Just because he’d heard about what happened.. We talked on the couch when star signs came up – I am a feeshy feeesh and he was the “virgin only not really” Strange but sweeet – he became my most favouritest virgo’s ever :D

  60. Elvis Costello- so suave, so neat, so twangy. The first man I ever saw in black-framed glasses and thought, mhmm, I wish I gave him his eye exam. “Now, Elvis, cover your right eye and read line 3.” Yes, yes indeed.

Before I get to deeply embedded in optomistrist office fantasties, H.G. Wells was also a pretty nifty Virgo. Time machines! It’s a machine! That travels! Through! Time! AHhhhhhhhhhhh! I doubt you are familiar with the 90’s children’s television show “Wishbone”, Gala m’dear, but the time machine episode had a big impact on me. Bascially, it was a show about a dog that reenacted works of the literary canon. They would dress him up like the main character and he would run around. Then he would leave his book world and help his owner, Matt, study for a math test or something. Really, it was awesome.

    Stay cool!

  63. I am a Virgo!! September 14!! Therefore, I have always had a biased fondness for other Virgos, and one of them is Sam Neill! Not only is his birthday on the same day as mine, but he was in Jurassic Park!! What more of an explanation do you need?

“Yes, but if Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, at least the pirates don’t eat the tourists.”

    Man I love that film.

  68. I’d have to say my favourite Virgo is Fiona Apple because ever since I first heard one of her songs I’ve been smitten ever since! It took me a while to purchase her music as I’m from the UK and she wasn’t as big over here but even before I got my hands on all her albums she was somebody I couldn’t forget so when I finally managed to get my hands on her music many years later I was so thrilled! Every song of hers I find myself having a personal connection to and I find her songs always really meaningful to me which I find really therapeutic!
What more can I say she a Virgo & she’s fab…don’t know what else to say so there you go! :p :)

  69. Okay I have two, both men!

    Buddy Holly
I love his whole image (those glasses!!) and what his image stood for, good ole fashioned 50s fun. I wish so bad I could have gone to one of his bands’ concerts “at the hop” and done the whole 50s thing. He just seemed like a really great guy and I love his music.

    Bill Murray
Okay he’s come out with a few stinkers in the last few years (Garfield, anyone?) but he did Groundhog Day which is one of my all-time FAVORITE movies ever. I find his dead pan humour hilarious. Also my dad loves him, so I grew up watching his movies ;)

  87. My favorite virgo is my Mom :) She’s always been there for me, through problems with boys, two university degrees and even let me live in her home with my husband because the university degrees have made me poor. She’s spent every birthday for the past 7 years moving me or my siblings to and from school, which for us is a 6 hr drive each way and never complained. She did a great job raising me and my brother and sister and now she’s my friend. We’ve been there for each other through her heart attacks and recently, the death of her mother. She’s the best virgo i know :)

Hmmm… I’d have to say either Buddy Holly, whose voice makes me melt and whose tragic end kinda makes my heart ache; or Mother Theresa, who is a kinda weird person to say considering I’m a lapsed Catholic, but she did some amazing things and I always appreciate a warm-hearted and generous Virgo.

  91. My favourite Virgo is my Dad. For years and years I was positive he’d been born at the wrong time because he’s so not how you’d expect your textbook Virgo to be! These past few months (due to some admittedly unfortunate circumstances) I’ve gotten to know my dad better than I ever have before and I was shocked at what I found. In a good way, of course.

I always joked with him that he was much more of a Gemini like me, but it turns out he was just a closet Virgo! The characteristics aren’t easy to spot at first (it took me all this time) but without a doubt they are there. He has this amazing way of focusing his attention on things in a very practical way when needed (or when he really wants to, e.g. winning an X-box game, haha), and stuff just happens. Magic!

Also, one of the main reasons I doubted his true Virgo nature was that he seems the complete opposite of a perfectionist if anything (one of the biggest traits of a Virgo!), but I’ve realised that deep down he actually is; it just comes out in different and unusual ways. For example, he is known in our family for being a bit (ahem, a lot) criticising and rather judgmental. But really I think that’s just his perfectionism, his innate need for things to be just so.

I hope that made sense, it sounded a lot more logical in my brain. And sorry for the mammoth entry, that would be my chatterbox Gemini rearing its head!

I’ve known the lovely gal since I was three years old (that’s seventeen years!!), and she’s always been the sweetest thing! She’s smart, stylish, adorable, nerdy (one of my favorite qualities in a person EVER), and a fantastic cook! Sheena also shares my love of all things Japanese, which is a phenomenal plus! A marvelous conversationalist, Sheena never fails to amaze me with her superb taste and hospitable charm. She’s a girl who’s been through a lot and definitely deserves my title of favorite Virgo! He pedal biked around France and Spain as a young man, lived like a hermit in Scotland, was an active Scientologist in the 70’s, train hoped across the USA, nearly single handedly built 3 beautiful homes (currently still building the last 2, and he’s now in his 60’s), he’s an avid kayaker, hiker and skier. For many, many reasons. I shall pick a few:

    She’s so intelligent,
She’s the funniest person I’ve ever met,
She’s affectionate and caring and HUGE fan of PDA’s,
She has excellent taste in movies,
She has notebooks stashed all over her bedroom,
She’s the only person I know that writes down her dreams,
She has the most adorable nose ever,
She takes pictures of herself in the rain,
    She has amazing handwriting,
    She helped me through depression,
She’s the only person I’ve met with grey eyes,
She makes me want to say ‘INCREDIBLE’ a lot,
She loves me no matter what,
    She owns a corset,
She’s as much of a fan of cheesey xmas songs and Disney movies as I am,
    She’s absolutely stunningly beautiful,
    SHE’S ALL ROUND AMAZING!

As for my favourite virgo that I don’t know, I’d probably say Stephen King. I think The Shining alone is enough of a reason!

He worked 2 jobs then would go to the gym, then would help someone install an air conditioner or do some other such favor, then would come home and stay awake for me. I also loved our minimalistic home of 40s-70s hand me downs, and the bare wood floor covered in area rugs that he kept nicely waxed. I also loved our many cats and all the something-with-stir fried vegetable meals he made. All very virgo.

When she was born, we all said she must be a reincarnated old gypsy woman – with her deep, knowing eyes giving away her Virgo curiosity and intellect.

She started walking at nine months, and is already speaking Spanish and English at age one! Of course, Virgos do tend to be perfectionists.

She’s the first virgo in the family! She’s a Grandma’s girl, and my mother is a Cancer, so that’s a great match. We’ll see how she and I get along, with me being a Gemini. Two Mercury signs might work, right?

  125. I know so many Virgos. I think The most influential is my Dad – he has always been there for me and spoiled me mad. As an only child I get all the attention and I’m daddy’s little girl! He is very protective of my and sometimes get’s a bit carried away with this but in the same time he realizes that he can’t hold me in a plastic bubble forever.
The second is Mickey Mouse. Yes, the cute cartoon mouse – he helped me with his daily doings in childhood, especially when I was sick. I’m little embarrassed to tell this but in Sunday mornings we have a TV show, that shows he’s cartoon for an hour. It feeds my inner child and it is a great way to enjoy your pancakes with a little cartoon and act a little childish! :) Not that being a Virgo means Mickey is any different but he has shown me kindness, friendship! Silly huh?!? :)

He recently lost his job [a job he was EXCELLENT at, a job fit for a Virgo!], and he continues to make sure his kids stay on track with schooling. Even when I struggle he tells me just to do my best, and if I lose my scholarship he assures me we’ll get it figured out. This man is a pillar of strength. He isn’t perfect, but he’s a good person. 144. Well, I’d have to say ME (insert Elle Wood’s victory ‘me’ after scoring Callahan’s internship)!

This past year and a half has been so definitive for me; had a crippling falling out with a loverboy, moved to a different part of the city, am finally finishing up my undergrad, picked up the pieces of my heart and managed to fall in love again with a scruffy drummer astronaut, got bangs, made plans to spend the summer in Europe, and discovered my passion for makeup artistry (I’ve even done the makeup for two bridal parties in the last month at $500 a pop!) Not to mention I’ve lost 15 lbs! I feel like now is the first time I’ve been honest with myself in years, and I am gentler, sweeter and more forgiving, but also braver, stronger, and more creative than ever.

As a v-go with leo tendencies, I have a true appreciation of all things extravagant and decadent, and always manage to treat myself to something fancy (within my means, of course). I’m a born explorer/adventurer, and my Europe trip will be one of many world tours.

So Gala, Nubby, you guys rock and make my blogroll, but I’m the raddest Virgo I know. And Nubs, have faith that when your tee graces my dirty pillows, it’ll be the icing on one badassed Virgo cake.

    Loves!

  145. As opposed to choosing someone I either don’t know (but who is famous), or choosing someone I know very well, I think I choose a NEW friend of mine, An. I’ve only actually met her twice, but she has to be my favorite Virgo because two meetings is enough! She’s open, outgoing, hilarious, beautiful, and very sure of herself—the latter is the most important quality in this little rant, because I think meeting someone and immediately realizing that this person has self esteem and is not afraid to be who they are is truly wonderful.

Also, she was the only one willing to go with me to lesbian clubs in Taipei. :)

  146. It seems my life is filled with Virgos but I happen to have a freaky love/hate relationship with them all! My father in particular! However, he’s who I’m choosing!

In recent years it has been too difficult to have him in my life but I still love him deeply and owe him a lot. To get to the point where I am able to think of him as a man who makes mistakes instead of just a father who hurt me was difficult but it means that I am now able to see all his great virgoness without getting stuck in the down side!

Nothing is impossible for him, he just finds a way to solve whatever problems come his way – in a supremely virgo perfect way! He is incredibly mentally active and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge no matter the topic. He can talk the hind leg off a donkey and charm almost anyone who listens with his cheeky attitude. He is the ultimate example of using the skills you do have to overcome what you dont.

And despite any faults, I’m glad to have him as my father!

  148. Um my boyfriend is my favorite virgo. he’s so virgo-y it’s not even funny.

he spends appoximately 8 hours a day studying for school. and he works really hard at everything he wants to do. he had the highest score out of anyone in honors calc 2 last year, and he just got 149/150 on the exam so he probably got the highest grade again.
i love that he is so responsible because he always reminds me to do my schoolwork, or of appointments. i learned how to study from him, and so far i have all A’s this semester. i’m not done with the semester but i’ll probably have my first perfect report card since 3rd grade.

he’s very patient, loyal, loving. he’s also really protective but not in an obsessive controlling way, just in a pick me up when i’m drunk way. :)
he is always giving himself (except when he’s studying) whenever i am sad he takes care of me, and he gives me medicine and soup and fluids when i get sick. :D

i like to talk to him about politics and social issues and things of that nature, because he is so good at making a strong argument.

he always gives a good first impression too. when you meet him he’s always funny, and intelligent; but he doesn’t hog the attention.

i am a total virgo lover lol. i wish i was a virgo!!! every boy that i’ve ever had a crush on was a virgo too :D

Because I love old-fashioned murder mysteries, of course! But also because she managed to craft such an intriguing life for herself — highlights include working as a nurse during WWI & writing crime novels in her spare time, divorcing an unfaithful husband (in 1928!) after staging her disappearance & subsequent amnesia, marrying an archeologist 14 years younger than her & working with him on numerous excavations in the Middle East.
& I think her murder mysteries are among the first novels I read in English, when I was ten or eleven, & so they hold a very special place in my heart. ;)

  170. Um, you, Gala!

My second favourite Virgo is Prince Harry. I’ve been utterly in love with him my entire teenage life. Apart from being irresistibly gorgeous (see this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlSBqa…), I really enjoy his devil may care, ‘to hell with them!’ attitude. I mean, it would be super easy for him to stay inside all day, cooped up in a castle, eating truffles and petting his grandmother’s corgis, not doing much else. Instead he lives life the way he wants to – joining the army, doing charity work in Africa, partying hard in London – getting into all sorts of trouble along the way – but never stopping just because of what the tabloids might say about him.

So yeah, he’s pretty much perfect. I look forward to marrying him in the not so distant future. We will have lots of ginger haired babies. Hurrah!

  172. Does it count if I say myself ? Maybe that’s just my Leo cusp coming out.

Alright, alright. One of my best friends, Meesha, is a virgo. We have a very similar style, except mine has the undertones of an 80s goth and hers has the undertones of a hip hopper. I don’t think that’s the right term for it, but that’s what I’m going to say. Also, her hair is dark and mine is light, so aesethetically we complement each other, and a good friend is always the best accessory. We go to poetry slams and then go ghost hunting. We walk around pet stores naming the all the fish after rappers (I think Biggie was our favourite the last time) and then parkour around Providence before returning to our town to pet all the neighbourhood cats. We always have the most incredible conversations on history and art and culture, all spurred from things like walking by a building or liking a passing stranger’s shoes. I can’t think of anyone I have more fun with without even leaving our backyards.

  176. Ooh it’s a toss-up between my mom and my best friend (who, oddly enough, were born on the exact same day – September 2nd!)

I’m gonna go with my mom, and here is an itemized list as to why:

    - She has magical cleaning powers. Every time I visit her, the house is spotless and stylish. I can stay there for weeks at a time, and I have never, ever seen her clean anything! – She makes kick-ass wholegrain bread, from scratch, which you can eat with French organic honey and tastes amazing – She has this boho, “child of the 60s” look going on, which means I can steal her clothes – ha – She understands the value of staying warm in winter and if it wasn’t for her forcing cute scarves and mittens on me, I would probably be sick ten times more often – I swear the woman learns a new language every year – She is the Eternal Optimist. She’s the person I call when I’m feeling down and she lets me know exactly why things aren’t that bad, and what will make it better (a cup of cocoa, a walk in the park, taking photos of birds) – She’s a ballet dancer. That’s just cool. – She introduced me to Loreena McKennitt when I was in my “I love Scandinavian history” phase – She’s into organic EVERYTHING. I think that’s why she’s so dewy and glowy and will never need plastic surgery even when she’s 100 years old :)

  177. My favorite Virgo is Fiona Apple. Her album, “Tidal” changed my life when I was 13 years old. Her voice is so haunting and beautiful. I think this quote from Shakespeare sums her up quite well:

and of course Nubby Twiglet. I finally stopped lurking on her blog not too long ago, and ever since I first started reading her blog I’ve begun to love the color red. So thank you Nubby for bringing red into my life, before I never had anything red, except for my red telephone that is.

Louis XIV, the ‘sun king’ he was a completely appearance-obsessed monarch, the opulence of his lifestyle wasn’t ever repeated (not even by Marie Antoinette, who was inspired by him)

Twiggy. because she’s TWIGGY! she became famous even when the models of the time were all curvy supposedly ‘real’ women (i hate that phrase, it implies that i am not a ‘real’ woman. pah!) she had the best style, a gorgeous haircut, and even now she’s aged brilliantly, and can still show facial expressions, unlike many other older stars.

  192. This may sound self-serving and stupid, but at the moment, my favourite virgo is ME! (17th September 1988).
This year I have had an amazing journey of self discovery. My attitude towards so much of what goes on in my life has changed, and I have really become happier, and more true with myself.
I have fallen in and out of love, and unfortunately lost a best friend in the process….but then I think maybe it is fortunate, because we discovered we really don’t have that much in common anyway.
I have climbed the corporate ladder, dropped out of uni and started again, discovered what I really want to do, redesigned my lifestyle, my personal style and my life.
I have started to live life the way I want to, and that makes me happy.
And as so many people say, you can’t fully love and appreciate others if you don’t love and appreciate yourself. So now that I have a favourite virgo in myself, I can probably go find a favourite virgo somewhere else out there!
    xo

  199. I’ve always liked Virgos & had Virgo friends, probably because my sister is one & I’m used to how they are. It’s funny because a lot of her friends are Aquarius (my sign), even though these two signs aren’t supposed to be very compatible.

I admire that Virgos are adventurous and have a special love of life that, in my opinion, rivals even the fire signs. They always have a unique or fresh take on something that has been done a million times before.

So, out of all the Virgos I admire, I would have to say that my favorite is Dan Eldon (daneldon.org). He was the youngest photojournalist at Reuters, and he died while covering a conflict in Africa at the age of 22. When he died almost 20 journals filled with collages were found. Chronologically you could see the evolution of both his art and his life, even though it is hard to tell where or if there is a distinction between the two.

Also, a Virgo friend who lived in Portland died this year. He had a Dan Eldon kind of spirit around him. He was a brilliant photographer, humanitarian, writer, & person. RIP Sokhak. (myspace.com/sokhak)

  200. John Cage – he was completely revolutionary in contemporary music in the 40s and 50s, and his work is still controversial today… that makes him pretty cool in my books. I don’t know if 4’33” is genius or ridiculous, but I think it’s so important that there are people who make us talk about these things. According to wikipedia, he was also ‘instrumental in the development of modern dance’. Culture as we know it now probably owes a lot more to him than we’d realise.

Other than that, Bill Murray, because he’s a sexy old man and he pops up in the most unexpected and amazing places, from the Rutles to Lost in Translation, via Little Shop of Horrors.

  217. My favourite Virgo would have to be Greta Garbo. Why? Why not? Just go watch the movie Anna Christie. She’s the definition of old-school glamour and class. Even the Guinness Book of World records agrees- she was voted most beautiful woman who ever lived, or something.

It’s not just her beauty that I admired. She was a phenomenal actress, in my opinion one of the best from the Old Hollywood days. She also kept to herself a lot, which is unusual for a huge star, but for me it only adds to her appeal. It gives her a sense of mystery.

  220. My favorite Virgo has sandy hair, long enough to move when he tosses it, but short enough that it doesn’t get in his face when we kiss in my dreams. He is tall, has strong arms, & is a little bit chubby, the way I like ‘em. He has a fondness for argyle sweatervests. He wants to be a musical theatre performer, & when he sings, I realize suddenly & completely why musical theatre was invented. Classics like Rodgers & Hart are his favorites, & when he sings from Carousel or Pal Joey or The King & I, my heart is “bewitched, bothered & bewildered,” through & through. It was infatuation at first sight more than two years ago, & though he’s now graduated so I never get to see him, I still miss his presence, his bright & youthful face, his smooth & crooning voice.

  221. MY MOMMY!
She is so wicked cool. I love my mom. She’s from the Philippines and she and my dad met in their thirties, so I remind myself that they led incredible lives before they met (and of course when they married they are still incredible and awesome). From little stories I’ve gleaned from her – she’s gone skydiving in Bangkok, drank slings in Singapore, hung out in a house at the foot of a mountain the day before it was covered by a volcanic eruption – I know I don’t really know all that much about the stuff she’s done. She’s fluently bilingual, way smarter than lots of people give her credit for (perhaps thinking that, because she’s foreign, she doesn’t know much) and is nutty and eccentric in that way where you THINK she’s a normal, bland person, until she says something completely kooky.
She has a green thumb – plants flourish under her care to the point where we have to hack them apart like jungle plants and separate them into five more pots – and normally mistrustful animals flock to her automatically. I could not make this up.
I could go on, but this is a pretty long comment already ;)

  224. My favorite Virgo is one of my best friends, Alicia!!
I only met her last year when I transferred schools (which was v.depressing for me) and at first we weren’t v. good friends.
However, I remember the moment that we realized we were basically the same person and shared the same mind! (Well, in the sense that we have just about everything in common and can actually finish each other’s sentences!) We were going to watch Dan in Real Life with the entire class but everyone had bailed except for the two of us. We bonded over everything on that day! Books, movies, music, we had everything in common!
I love this girl to the moon and back! She is such a Virgo to the extreme! Meticulously organized and loves to make lists! We complement each other so well and I love her!

  235. Aside from you gorgeous girlies yourselves (too obvious) my fave Virgos are:

Amy Winehouse (singer) – ok so she’s a total mess which isn’t cool but there’s still something about her.

Sir Trevor McDonald (British newsreader) – I grew up watching News At Ten so I love him as part of my childhood, but even though he’s 69 I admit I have a secret crush on him (don’t tell anyone lol)

Amanda Tapping (actress) – played Samantha Carter on Stargate (yay for smart action girls!) and looks amazing

Peter David (author) – his Star Trek New Frontier books combine my two fave genres – scifi and romance. Calhoun/Shelby otp! Long live girly scifi!

P.S. Not a Virgo I know, but Wassily Kandinsky (artist) has the same birthday as me – and iCiNG! Worth a mention at least! xxx

She’s also a great listener, and reminds me regularly when I’m stressing out that she’ll do anything to make my life easier. I went Christmas shopping with her today and had an awesome time.

I also love my Virgo sister because she is 22 and I am 20 and I have a copy of her ID that I use to get into bars and she doesn’t know about it. Hee! ;)

I also have to say Michael Jackson – Great artist and will go down in history as the King of Pop. If I could dance like him my life would be pretty close to perfect.

And last but not least, Mickey Mouse! Without him thousands of kids across the world may not have learnt to spell, M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E.

  239. I’m not personally acquainted with any Virgos, very unfortunately! However, my hero is Tori Amos.

Tori Amos as a musician and as a person helped me through hard times, and has exponentially brightened the already-bright times! She is always reinventing herself, while still staying true to all she has ever been. She is innovative as an artist and as an inspirational personality. Her music makes me as happy as MJ’s makes Miss Nubby, but I love her even more for her honesty, support of women, and philanthropic heart. I volunteer for RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network), which she founded, and have talked to many survivors who have found strength and peace through Tori’s influence and/or the organization. Though I don’t know her in person, Tori Amos is undoubtedly my favorite Virgo.

My stepfather joined our family about 15 years ago. At first, I thought he was just another one of mum’s boyfriends, but he has stuck with us and I now call him Dad. It’s quite nice as we were in desperate need of a father figure. His Virgo ways have taught me to handle money better, take better care of my things and communicate with my family in a more loving and productive way. He has also helped my mum be a more centered and stable person which of course makes a huge difference in my sibling’s and my lives. He’s always caring, attentive and makes good dad jokes that only he finds funny.
Plus, he pretty much has the most awesome last name ever… Holznagel.

  275. Why my sister is the venerable vixen of Virgos.

Rosy is my personal shopper. I can’t do it without her, trust me I’ve tried! She taught me how to recognize a Fendi from a FLendi. She has always taken up the big sister role without a thought and shares little with me to not worry me. Like sending mom to Spain, visiting her to keep her sane, handling her emails, phone calls, etc. Like spotting Dad’s internet, cell, and cable bill. Since I have been pregnant she has been more excited than I, I think. She’s shopped (surprise), researched the name to see what’s out there along the lines of the baby name (she found a city in our state we’ll visit), and constantly brings the subject up before I do. She’s already an amazing auntie. Additionally, she orchestrated our reunion this summer. We were in the same city but for reasons x, y, and z we would only contact each other by phone. Now we see each other at least weekly. She has helped my partner’s band with her tech savvy and pr connections. Not to mention catapulted her partner’s artistic dreams.

I can go on, but she taught me that great things come in small packages (i.e. think Tiffany’s box). Did I mention she’s the smallest of the fam? Height wise and jean size size! + she doesn’t rub it in everyone’s face.

Told ya she was a vivacious Virgo!

  292. Ooh, I know some incredible Virgos, but I can ‘t help but pick my mama, since she’s tough and smart and always gets thing done the right way AND on-time. I don’t know how, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t genetic, since I’m a total mess.

  293. My favorite Virgo is my boyfriend. Except right now we’re on some sort of hiatus thing where I don’t even know if I can call him that. But he’s so perfectly Virgo! And he has the same birthday as another favorite Virgo of mine: Michael Jackson! Haha that’s where the similarities end.

  294. Paul Reubens (a.k.a. Pee-wee Herman)!
The suit, the makeup, the laugh, the house full of kitschy vintage bliss — brilliant.

  295. Ryan Ross! He’s the words and music behind Panic at the Disco and they are hands down my favourite band. I think I’d have to say he’s my favourite- he’s a brilliant mind and very much a nice boy, no matter what anyone else says.

...actually 3/4 of the band are Virgos (maybe that’s why they’re so awesome? :D)

  296. BILL MURRAY!! Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters! Enough said!!

I’ll have to do some research and see who else I can come up with!

  297. I am my favourite virgo, even though i was born on july 16th. but my ascendant is virgo and i think that influences me a lot. i mean, i am a total perfectionist – on wednesday i organized my boyfriend’s closet by colours. needless to say that that’s the only way i can live with mine. i also love ical, the endless possibilities of working with different-coloured calendars, planning months ahead, keeping track of all the birthdays, seeing private and professional life at a glance. one of my faults is that i am overly critical – especially when it comes to people i care about. i think it should be my new year’s resolution to work on that.
my virgo-personality is complemented nicely by the traits of my sun sign cancer i think. gee, aren’t i a wonderful person? =p so totally deserving of an amazing surprise nubby-pack! (sadly only in case she ships abroad though)

  300. Steve Guttenberg for making all those awesome/shit films I watched over and over again as a child. Short Circuit, Oh my God. I have nothing but love for those films. The late 80s/early 90s would have been a bleaker time without him.

Adam Sandler for making Happy Gilmore. “What? Friends listen to ‘Endless Love’ in the dark!” I will never tire of it.

Alfonso Ribeiro – Carlton Fucking Banks. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is still one of my favourite shows.

Barry White for making smoooooooooooth lovin’ tunes. Walrus of Love baby, Walrus of Love.

  301. Oh my God I just found out the actual exact dates for Virgos and my Grandad was a Virgo (02/09/1926). Here’s one I can talk about with real emotion.

You know how girls are either mummy’s girls or daddy’s girls? Well I was a Grandad’s girl. He was without a doubt the best Grandad that anyone could have. He was kind and generous and funny and incredibly intelligent. He was a fantastic old Irish man with the most insane imagination and he’d make up really funny crazy stuff to entertain me and my brothers. He had the best stories about growing up in Ireland on a farm with 6 sisters and 5 brothers (Catholics eh?)! He was born to be a dad and a Grandad and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by family.

He died 4 days after my 16th birthday and it’s still raw (I’m 22 now). It is still the worst thing that has ever happened to me. The amazing thing was that at his wake, people were laughing and and smiling, because he was the most lovable, funny man in the world and everyone had a story to tell about him. He just inspired happiness in people. When my mum was ringing people to tell them he’d died, she had people screaming and hanging up and crying down the phone. There was no-one with a bad word to say about him. It makes me so incredibly sad that he’s not around now. I want to know what he’d think of my boyfriend and my blue hair and my photography. I want him around when I graduate and when I pass my driving test and all the other landmark moments in life. And now I’m having a little cry :/

Also, he made the best goddamn pancakes in the ENTIRE WORLD. Those babies were almost an inch thick!

Sorry if that was a wild ramble but it’s had to put into words what he meant to me.

Miss. Candace, my best friend back home in michigan. We share a ridiculous love of all things Hello Kitty, Tokidoki and ridiculously overpriced designer goods. I recieved a package from her today with a handmade lion blanket and a louis vuitton (her place of employment) box filled with asian goodies! We are also obsessed with rhinestones, so we had them permently embedded in our chests via. microdermals together and she loves bacon.

  303. I sound like I want to sell him.

WHO!? Jesus is my super all time favorite numeral uno Virgo! I guess you would pronounce it differently in Spanish though haha. More commonly known as Jay, he is my favorite not only because of the multitude of Jesus jokes you can make but as well as Mexican, as he is 25%. Trust me, it never gets old, especially since the man carries a knife. (He likes to think is a tough guy.)

WHY?! The wily Mexican man is also a tiny bit gangster. Okay maybe he only wanted corn rows cause it would tame his mass amounts of super-curly-fluff-tastic hair (which he never got case I made a point to attack his ponytail in appreciation whenever possibly) but still! He always defends me to the end, and lightens the most serious situations by using retro sland terms. Also he may be the modern day Romeo. He feels that chivalry is never lost, always a gentleman and a scholar. He cares for everyone where he see’s fit and holds me close when ever we are together. He’s sweet, witty and calm. He shares my love of astrology and life. He has supported me in every thing I am doing and always keeps a watchful eye out for any harm. His Achilles’ heel? Cookies and ice cream.

SAY WHAT!? He was born on a cusp. So he’s Virgo-Librian mutt! Haha, He’s full of ideas and has an addictive personality. Seriously not one person has ever hated him. I’ve heard horror stories of him flipping on someone and them never retaliating and just continuing thinking that he was their best friend. He’s a charmer, addressing all females as honey or kiddo, even if they happen to be 90 year old ladies with the wrong number. He’s very rational and anal about what he does. This applies cleaning too. He does mass amounts of cleaning.

    He is my cookie lovin’-ghetto-50’s talking-video watchin’-hand holding-forehead kissing-Spanish gentleman!!

  304. My favorite Virgo is one of my best friends, Chelle. She’s like a sister to me—we’ve been close for over a decade. I’m also an earth sign (Taurus), so naturally we get along great. She likes to move around and live in different places all over the world, have fantastic and usually dysfunctional love affairs, and create art. She’s awesome.

  305. I had a hard time debating on who my favorite Virgo was, because my favorite band also has three Virgos in it >_> But I am going to go with Jon Walker from Panic at the Disco. He is so chill and awesome.

  307. Hm, my favorite Virgo, aside from Gala, Nubby, and myself, would definetly be…

    Rupert Grint!(Ron from Harry Potter)
    why, you ask?
    1. We have the same birthday, August 24th (things like that get me really excited, hah).
    2. Two words: Fire crotch.
    3. He is pale and freckly, like myself.
    4. He has a UK accent which instantly makes him even cuter.
    5. Rupert is such a cute name, perfect for such a cute boy.
    6. I am a huge Harry Potter nerd.
    7. He got the part in Harry Potter by making a video of himself rapping about how much he wanted the part, dressed as his female drama teacher.
    8. He wanted to be an ice cream man when he was a kid, and actually bought an ice cream van with money he earned from Harry Potter.
    and, 9. He rides unicycles.
    :)

  314. So, turns out I know very few Virgos. I’ll have to remedy that in the future and go out of my way to hunt some down, cos you seem like pretty amazing people that I could learn some things from (my list making skills could be improved, and I’m definitely in need of a little more perfectionism). Due to the lack of Virgos in my personal life, I’m gonna have to go famous with my pick, and say Ani diFranco. Love her music, love her values, love her messages, love her spirit. My fave song of hers is Soft Shoulder.

  317. I’m a little late for this, I couldn’t get into iCiNG (nooooo!) but here goes anyway!

My favourite Virgo of all time would be my friend Lucy. Haha, she’s pretty much a tall, blonde and curly version of you Gala! She’s psychopathic about bananas, a completely obsessive listmaker and a keen table-dancer :)

Sometimes (as a Scorpio), I want to punch her in her stupid smug perfectionist face, but mostly we get on like two houses on fire.
