iCiNG Playlist

[ 23 October 2008 ]

I went to see Seth Godin speak about his new book Tribes this morning. It was amazing, & I’m so glad I woke up early & braved the cold morning air to attend!

Consequently, my head is swimming with all the things he told us. I don’t have a lot of words in me right now — so I thought I would share with you some of the songs that are rocking my eardrums lately. These songs don’t really go together at all, but I love them & wanted you to hear them too! Maybe it can be your playlist for the work-day! Regardless, I hope you enjoy them.

Born Ruffians – Little Garcon

Garbage – Supervixen

Atmosphere – Vanity Sick

Snow Patrol feat. Martha Wainwright – Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On

Montell Jordan – This Is How We Do It (!!!)

Skee-Lo – I Wish

Souls Of Mischief – ’93 ‘Til Infinity

Jeff Buckley – Everybody Here Wants You

Elliott Smith – Waltz #2

CunninLynguists – Rain

What are your favourite songs right now?

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  1. I’m totally ashamed of my top favorite songs right now! The list goes something like:
Katy Perry – Hot N’ Cold
    Schwayze – Corona and Lime
Celeste (featuring Kayne West) – American Boy
    Jace Everett – Bad Things

This is what happens when I don’t listen to new music for years… I’m totally turned on to cheesy pop! :X

  2. Haha, don’t be ashamed. This afternoon I have been all about amazing remixes of awful songs. Like uh, a remix of BLINDED BY THE LIGHT, haha! & Elton John. The only reason you’ve all been spared is that there are no Youtube videos in existence!

  3. Oh, how I miss Elliott Smith. Thanks for sharing these, Gala.

I can’t get enough of MGMT’s “Time to Pretend” and Talib Kweli’s “Listen!” Both of which are sooooo 6 months ago, but oh well. Been bizzy.

  4. Right now my taste in music has died

    I’m loving

    Lady Gaga – Just Dance
Miley Cyrus – See you again

The worst part is I left my Hannah Montana cd in a work car, and now im too ashamed to go and get it back.

    Oh the shame!

sarah — I haven’t heard a single song by Hannah Montana… I barely know who she is! Is that a good thing? ;>

  10. Oh my goodness.

The songs that are currently rocking my socks are:

    I’m Good, I’m Gone – Lykke Li
    Our Hell – Emily Haines
    Sleepyhead – Passion Pit
    White Gold – Metric

All of them should get points for their ability to give musical orgasms.

  11. Born Ruffians!

    Hummingbird – by said band.
Your English Is Good – Tokyo Police Club
Escargot – Peggy Sue and the Pirates
    Balderdash – Ipso Facto
Drink That Bottle Down – Stray Cats
My Manic and I – Laura Marling

I’m currently going through a phase of various musical obsessions.

  16. Don’t you go out in the rain – Dragon
Strawberry Letter 23 – The Brothers Johnson
    Purple Rain – Prince
Fairytale of New York – The Pogues
    Miss Misery – Elliott Smith
    Silver Lining – Rilo Kiley
Mistadobalina – Del tha Funky Homosapien
    November Rain – Guns’n‘Roses
Down in Mexico – off the Death Proof soundtrack
Crossroads (the whole album!) – Bon Jovi

The rain songs are all from a rain themed mega mix my dance troupe is working on for a show in November. I choreographed the Milli Vanilli Blame it on the Rain section. Sorry, I can’t get to Youtube at work so can’t leave links, but I recommend people try and have a listen to the Dragon track, for some catchy 80s NZ pop.

  22. Fuck, I actually ALWAYS rock on to “Blinded by the Light”, which is embarrasing and hilarious at the same time.:)

I really got into that “Don’t go Breaking my heart remix” you twittered about earlier today.

I’m in one of those moods where I’m playing “The woman with the tattooed hands” on repeat.
    also “puppets” I <3 atmosphere + random & bewitching Janis Joplin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVpDOIPx_sY)

but talking about more embarrasing song love affairs…last week I just couldn’t stop listening (or singing!) Britney Spears “you want a piece of me”

  61. Bat For Lashes: Horse and I
(I saw her supporting Radiohead in June and it was fantastic. Natasha’s amazing, I can’t turn off her album)
    uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JyaUhdH…

    Patrick Wolf: The Magic Position

of Montreal: the Past is a Grotesque Animal

    No Age: Eraser
(When I saw this vinyl in Picadilly Records I almost wet myself with glee and bought two copies! I love No Age, but now I think about it, I’ve spent so much money on them!!!)
    uk.youtube.com/watch?v=n368OU1…

And here’s where the crappy Disney comes in ><
    Selena Gomez: Tell Me Something
(What can I say, I love her!!)

  69. I got a review copy of “Tribes” through a former job a couple of weeks ago, and it IS a great book. It’s good to see that it’s getting attention…

But it’s cool to see that the author is just as inspiring in person! I’ll have to check out a reading sometime…

  70. OH, songs!

    Ahem…

I’ve been kind of obsessed with Sara Bareilles lately, so:
    “Love Song” and “Fairytale”

Also been obsessed with Rachel Yamagata: “1963”

    Also Regina Spektor: “Edit”

Lastly, I’ve been obsessed with Pandora Internet Radio. And also True Blood on HBO – which has one of the most interesting and eclectic soundtracks ever…I created a station that I called “True Blood Radio” and put in all the artists/songs listed on the True Blood website, and it churns out the most intriguing mix of country/folk/rock/pop ever! You should try that!

  71. Sorry to bombard this entry with comments, but I would be remiss if I didn’t point you in the direction of a truly amazing band. Have you ever listened to Girlyman? If not, you should.

    www.girlyman.com

(PS – they’re playing at Joe’s Pub on Nov. 5, and I’m more than a little excited.) :)

OK. I promise – no more comments from me today!
