International Dress-Up Day Vote #1!

[ 10 February 2007 ]

International Dress-Up Day will hereafter be referred to as i.D.U.D.! Like an iPod, but fancier (& cuter).

(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, see here!)

Okay! Thanks for all your enthusiasm, kittens! We now need to decide on a theme. I’m going to set the date for NEXT SATURDAY, which is the 17th of February. Saturday means that if you go to school or have to dress in a conservative fashion at work, you’ll be okay. Also, it’s not like you have to do it for the WHOLE day — just the afternoon or evening or whatever. No rules really, except that if you have the opportunity to take photos, DO IT! The 17th of February is also the date of Chinese New Year, which I love! Fireworks & food & excitement all round!

Dee Dee said, “should we have a secret code word to acknowledge those we believe are in? example of use: if i waltz by someone dressed as a valentine i salute their effort by saying [insert code word]...” What do you think?! I love the concept! Maybe the codeword should be “iCiNG”?!

As far as themes go, we’ve had a few suggestions, which I’ll detail below. Vote! Please also write to me with any additional ideas. Read everybody else’s comments too! Man, this thing needs a forum!

Okay… Place your bets now!

<3 Dress like your favourite character
<3 Dress like a valentine
<3 Dress like your birthday
<3 Dress like your favourite serial killer
<3 Dress like your idol
<3 Dress like your favourite song

  2. oy! i’d say that for beginning i.D.U.D., it might be easier to get people to participate if you do something a little… less abstract. Y’know what i mean?

i’d vote for #1 valentine or #2 idol.

I’m all down for the abstract dressings, but they pose a bit more difficulty for some people.

  3. p.s. i didn’t notice the code word! Icing is lovely, something like “Pass the icing, darling!”

  4. Dressing like a favourite song appeals most to me. There’s little hope of finding a proper bald cap in time for dressing like my idol, at least.

  5. And I like the abstract ideas. Thus, I have to cast my lot with ‘favourite song’ – especially as most of my idols wore knee-breeches, which I don’t have the money to have made bespoke. At least, not until I give something up. Like… bread.

  10. Well, I’d say song, but it’s a bit abstract. So valentine is good – leaves room for lots of red and white accessorising, which is always fun will amuse random observers.

  11. Well if you go with a song theme, there are a couple (y’know just a few) songs about love/valentines etc… two birds and whatnot. ;)

  12. I want to participate, but I have no imagination! :) I can’t think of an outfit for most of those themes, but I fully support the idea!
