james&august Competition Winners!
[ 31 May 2007 ]
First of all, I want to say thank you for the HUGE response to this contest! Within a few hours of posting about it, there was so much traffic to james&august‘s website that it ran out of bandwidth & was inaccessible! Amazing!
I received tons of entries & was thrilled to see that everyone’s ideas were so varied. Let me just say that I appreciate everyone’s amazing creativity & incredibly sweet words! Awwww! So many of you said that iCiNG has changed the way you think about clothing, & has given you the confidence to ditch your tent-sized sweatshirts & take some chances with fashion. I cannot even begin to tell you how much that thrills me, I get an adrenaline rush just reading it!
Of course, an ENORMOUS thank you also goes to james&august for being so generous & awesome in general! Without their support this competition would never have existed, phew! Three cheers for james&august!
Anyway, just like they say on Australia’s Next Top Model, it was really hard to pick! Only five of you are in the running to become james&august’s next clotheshorse!
In no particular order, the winners are…
Teresa
“I would wear the cherry hoodie over my black bubble dress and my chunky flat boots. I would go visit my boy in Wellington (sadly, I’m in Auckand… but it’s so good when we do see each other!), and we would wander the streets letting mischief find us… we would scale the chain link fence of tennis courts on Tasman St, near his flat, and put streamers and balloons up… then maybe we would play on the Cuba St playground, and I would get him doused by the water fountain… we would take photos with the man and the dog in the Old Bank, and head up the hill on the cable car (secretly scrawling our names somewhere)... then he would take me to our spot on this beach (I forget the name) and we’d eat fish and chips (lotsa salt) and maybe some chocolate brownies. I’m flying down to visit him tomorrow!”
I love this entry! It warms the cockles of my cupcake-lovin’ heart to think that the james&august hoodie we’re giving away could be part of a grand love story such as this one! Long-distance romances are so exciting sometimes. I hope your boyfriend stands behind you & puts his hands in the pockets of it to pull you closer!
Chau Le
“I haven’t touched my prom dress yet for a few years now, but it’s such a beautiful dress. It’s an off-white, silk, and flowy, almost something from a dream. kinda like a nightgown because it’s very loose and comfortable :) Take my prom dress that’s been gathering dust over the years, layer it with the cherry pink hoodie, put on a contrasting turquoise blue silk…or perhaps a knitted (!!!) square scarf around the waist or wrap it around the head/neck, flip on your hood like a badass, jump into a pair of combat boots, and now you’re a runaway combat prom baby!!! (hehe or maybe like a ruffled up, i-just-fell-out-of-bed, sleep-walking into a foggy forest looking for her love, maiden! kekeke~) and of course…. with a tiara on my head ;) just because it makes me feel giggly and erupts an energy bomb inside of me, kinda like the ones you’d get before you open a present, or when the movie finally starts, or when you haven’t seen a girl friend in a really long time XD”
Brilliant. I think the phrase “runaway combat prom baby” was what sold me on this entry. Other than that, the whole thing is totally evocative, & I know that if I saw a girl dressed like that, running down the street, I would totally chase after her & beg her to be my friend!

“I would wear a red hoodie with the black striped undies, with my yellow knee high rainboots and my war paint [that is me hanging upside down btw], and perform a raindance while it’s already raining. Then I would probably have a picnic on a twister mat (b/c the ground is wet and they’re plastic tarp things) with umbrellas and watermelon in the rain.”
Okay, COME ON, look at that picture! How could she not be one of the winners?! The idea of a girl in a hoodie, cute knickers & knee-high rainboots doing a rain-dance totally turns my crank. It’s brilliant. (I would like to see photographic evidence too, hint hint!)
Sophie
“figured i might give this competition thing a whirl as those pink hoodies look delicious. SO with mine, i would wear: black&orange tiger print leggings from asos with the knickers over the top as shorts (obviously i would wear a different pair of underwear beneath the leggings…!), then the brown suede knee-high boots which i stole off my mother (they’re from the early 80’s & they’re falling apart but OH GOD i love them!). then maybe a few scarves round my waist as belts, crazy teased hair, pink/teal makeup (to match the hoodie) & lotsss of necklaces. nummy. oh, & my fingerless leather gloves because i wear them with everything at the moment ^^; “
Adorable. It sounds absolutely nutty, I love the idea of wearing tiger-print leggings as pants with high brown boots & fingerless leather gloves. The best thing is that from my limited knowledge of Sophie, she WOULD actually wear this out of the house. You have to give a girl like that as much encouragement as you can!
Nadia

Fantastic. ‘Nuff said. I am smitten with this entry.
There were also a whole lot of honourable mentions. Unfortunately we only had five packs to give away, but these entries have to be shared because they are way too good to sit buried in my inbox!
Amy
“lest one beg off the nature of being a creative type / i would simply and surely wear myself. / i would wear my mother, my grandmother, / and all the women that came before me.leave the head uncloaked by hood when the sunshine smiles down / girl racer flys by so fast on her red kinetic machine / shes reminiscent of the one that came before her, / this girl; she rode the dapple gray fury.
the hood comes up when clouds provoked by nature or mood roll in. / that girl; the world was hungry for her crumbs. / i carry all this within me / part and parcel. / bone and blood. / mother, daughter.”
I love this poem, I think it’s gorgeous. Girl poets need praise too!
Stephanie
“i’d wear the red hoodie with a hand full of balloons, pink furry bunny ears, a yellow skirt and aqua shoes. :)”
Ohhhh, how could Stephanie not be included for writing something so simply adorable?!
Yee
“... a funky little (transparent) raincoat & a cute cherry-print umbrella for the rainy season (: and flying shoes! because with that hoodie i’d be unconquerable :D”
FLYING SHOES. I don’t need to say anything else.
Anna Rose
“How I would like to wear the prize: Size 10 cherry james&august hoodie zipped up half way with a bosom boosting black bra peeking through, size 12 james&august black and white knickers (baby’s got back), drag queen-esque thigh high black patent leather boots, red motorcycle helmet, mirror aviators, with a red Harley between my legs.”
This would have been one of the winners if it wasn’t just wishful thinking! ;D
Jinnel

A late entry but it definitely deserved a mention, isn’t that a glorious illustration?!
Congratulations kittens! If you’re one of the winners, please email me your address & what sizes/colour combinations you’d like! You’ll all be receiving a parcel from james&august very soon. Hooray!
Super-love & cupcakes,

Thank you for offering such a lovely prize!!!
No problem! Thank you for being so clever!
Awwww booo, i missed it!... oh well, can i still send you what i’d wear with it? i drew it up and all. Im not looking to win anymore i just want the drawing to serve its purpose. =P. But congrats to everyone!!! Awesome JOBS!
Lanelea87 — Yeah, sure! Flick it through, I’d love to see what you’ve drawn up :>
The entries are all really cute. Congratulations to those who won!
All so clever!! I’m so jealous of Nadia’s mad drawing skillz (wish I could do that) and I Truly Need photographic evidence of Chau Le’s “sleep-walking into a foggy forest looking for her love, maiden”. Can we all do that for the next I.D.U.D.? Can we? Can we?
Nadine — Me too! I never could draw very well, the best I can manage is a demented-looking stick figure with two different-sized eyes… ! & I like the idea of taking Chau’s imagery for June’s IDUD! Hmmmm!
congratulations one and all!!!
What lovely entries.
Laura’s so cute!
lol yay!!! haha “sleep-walking into a foggy forest looking for her love, maiden” heh can you tell i just woke up and started typing my answer for the contest? >____< oh boy, run on sentences ftw! lmaoo! i’ll definitily take some pics 8D as you wish, miladies!~ hehe
I have to say, I think this comp was a really good idea! My co-worker and I had a great time thinking up outfits. All the aforementioned entries are absolutely fantasic!
I sure wish my entry wasn’t just wishful thinking too!
Eeeeeee! I’m grinning from ear to ear, thanks Gala! Reading the other entries was quite humbling, you gals sure are talented. Thanks Gala and james&august for the sweet sweet prize :D
Definitely a pink zebra striped, fresian cow or pink camouflage look grecian gown.
