Live At SXSWi: A Brief History Of Growing Up Online
[ 14 March 2009 ]
For those of you who can’t be here in Austin, here’s a live stream of our panel discussion — this should record, too, so you can watch it later if you’re not on the site right now! Hope you enjoy!
Love letters & feather headdresses,

wow it’s live:)
hey there gala!
I agree! haha
Hi Gala! :)
This was super cool. :)
That was awesome, I still use IRC.
So for those of us who didn’t happen to be online/or able to record, will there be another video? I really wanted to see it :]
A little hard to hear it all, but still very good! And who could not enjoy a bit of live pinkness? :)
Wow Gala thanks for posting this! It’s sounds amazing … xx
Never mind! A bit hard to hear, but delightful nonetheless.
Gala, it’s so true that writers simply want to write and receive feedback…it’s seems so simplistic, yet some people fail to grasp this and accuse writers of being attention-seekers. It blows my mind just how many people are living in their own little bubble of ignorance. Regardless, have a happy Saturday everyone :)
I really love your site. It’s fantastic!
hi gala darling
youre AMAZING but that girl next to you was slightly annoying who is she and what is her website?
how many days til you see jake now haha
xxxx
That was interesting. :)
Aww man, I can’t get it to play :(
This was really interesting! Who are the other people sitting next to you?
This is fantastic! And I’m always so struck when you post videos by how gorgeous your speaking voice is!
Who are the other people on the Panel? It’s always so strange to see my favorite bloggers live, but great nonetheless =D
“Diaryland…HOLLAAAAAA!”
LOL. Scribble.nu 4lyf.
OMG Jane was my favorite on Daria too. I was a little young at the time it came out so I was introduced in the late 90’s, but its still one of my favorite shows!
P.S. How cute is your fellow blogger Mark!? Adorable!
DIARYLAND! I completely forgot about DiaryLand. This bit (I didn’t watch it all, it was a bit long) made me remember my first experience with the internet. I started around 1997. My first website was about milk ads (yes, the “got milk?” ones, haha) and then I started designing my own personal webpage. I had sites on Angelfire, Geocities, gURL.com…I wrote all my own HTML, as Anna mentioned. Thanks for posting this!!
Awesome video. I found it really interesting.
I think also a lot of people have an online presence that isn’t at all about journaling or diaryland or whatever, but I have found that the closest online friendships I have developed have come from a particular diary site that I’ve been writing on for years… I just think it’s so much more genuine and deep than sites like facebook, myspace or twitter. Those sites are good too, but they tend to be a lot more superficial, and they tend to also involve people from your REAL life that then become a part of your online life… which is strange.
xx
Thanks for the video!
I was at this panel – here’s my coverage & video clips: www.austinchic.net/2009/03/sxs…
Wonderful panel, Gala! It really took me back to the good ‘ol days circa 1995 :)
