MAGIC @ ChinaShop

Vegas

As most of you are aware, a couple of weeks ago I went to Las Vegas with ChinaShop magazine to experience the spectacle that is the MAGIC tradeshow. I had no idea what I was going to see, but thankfully, I had my trusty editor with me to show me the way! We had such a great time, going out for fabulous dinners, frolicking poolside & doing our best to hide from the 108°F temperatures!

Below are links to the pieces I wrote while I was there, on subjects ranging from shoegasms to Suge Knight & lycra-clad promotional girls!

MAGIC’s 5 Most Fabulous Shoes

Dollhouse

Pyramid studs have been — & will continue to be — huge. I saw approximately one million different interpretations of the pyramid stud on a shoe while I was at MAGIC, but Dollhouse won out with this simple but fantastic platform heel…

MAGIC Style

MAGIC Style

As you would imagine, the style on display at MAGIC was pretty diverse & inspiring. The foremost fashion trade show features wholesalers from all across the United States, competing with one another for attention & of course, retailers’ money! I feel like I saw everything imaginable, from Lycra jumpsuit-clad promo girls to Suge Knight prowling the aisles. Here are a few examples of the looks exhibited. Who’s your favorite?

Busta Rhymes at Body English

Busta

This is Las Vegas, after all, so it is never quite as simple as turning up to a show, watching someone perform, & leaving again. No, of course not. I stood at the side of the stage, in front of one of Busta’s personal bouncers who others affectionately referred to as “the big man”, & must have been at least 7 feet tall. To my left was Suge Knight, who could also be nicknamed “the big man”, but for very different reasons. He stood emotionless behind over sized shades, seemingly there to soak up the atmosphere & nothing more.

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things… at MAGIC

Dynomighty

These wallets are incredible in their simplicity. They come in a range of designs, from Air Mail envelopes to postcards, newsprint, subway maps & comic book panels, & are pretty much indestructible. Made from microfiber — like those impossible to destroy express mail envelopes — they’re tear-resistant & water-resistant as well as being recyclable.
