New Moon Magic: March 2016

Feeling dreamy? It’s no wonder, because on Tuesday night, we’re going to be basking in the starry-eyed atmosphere of a Pisces New Moon. But it’s not as simple as all that — it’s also a solar eclipse, which amplifies everything!

Sometimes Pisces energy can have us floating away in the clouds, but it won’t feel like that this time around. This New Moon is balanced out with some Virgo vibes, which tells us that yes, our dreams are possible — but we need timelines, action items, and goals to make it happen.

Here’s how to extract the maximum amount of juice out of this New Moon!

NEW MOON IN PISCES
MARCH 8TH 2016

IN THE SKY… (The AstroTwins)

This Pisces New Moon falls on March 8, 2016 at 8:54pm EST. This year’s lunation is especially potent because it’s also a solar eclipse and a supermoon. Whew!

This is the first eclipse of 2016, and because it falls at a new moon, when the Sun and Moon are in the same zodiac sign, it’s a solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon stands directly between the Earth and the Sun. For this brief moment, the moon can “block out” the light of the Sun, causing temporary confusion or change.

It’s like when you have to suddenly reboot your laptop—there’s a moment where the system reconfigures itself and everything goes quiet. It can be disorienting (what windows were open when the computer crashed?) but also relieving as this solar eclipse helps you start with a clean slate.

This is the second Pisces solar eclipse in a series of eclipses that are touching down in Virgo and Pisces from 2015-17. The first in this group was on March 20, 2015. Page back through your journal about a year and see if anything stands out. Headline events that occur now could be a continuation of seeds you planted back then. For example, if you started searching for a new home, this eclipse could precipitate a move. Or, if you made changes in your love life, you could meet someone who is a better match, fitting more with the intentions you visualized last year.

This year’s Pisces New Moon is also exactly opposite expansive Jupiter, which is retrograde in Virgo. Pisces is all about imagination, surrender, creativity and following our soul-stirring passions. Virgo wants budgets, timelines and pragmatic plans. We may need to balance the call of Piscean fantasy against a harsh reminder that we have unfinished business to attend to as well. This can be a great time to balance the practical with the mystical, striking a nice balance between the two.

ON THE GROUND… (Gala Darling)

“Be steady and well-ordered in your life so you can be fierce and original in your work.” — Gustave Flaubert

Pisces + Virgo energy is one of my favourite combinations. Now, I might be slightly biased (I am a card-carrying Virgo), but to me, it is the perfect balance. Wild dreams + structured plans, rose-tinted glasses + measurable goals, juicy imagination + an orderly to-do list? Talk about living the dream!

PLAN OUT THOSE BIG DREAMS
It’s time to create a structure around your grandest pie-in-the-sky notions. After all, you can have, do and be anything you like — but without a plan, your dreams will remain just that. Harness this Pisces Moon to fantasise and explore your wildest yearnings, and then grab a big sheet of paper (I like these Post-It Wall Pads — ahem, Virgo alert) and get busy.

Create a mind-map, write a big list of everything you need to get started on, and then — perhaps most crucially — give yourself deadlines. This will help keep you on track, make you accountable, and as you start to cross off your completed items, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment that will give you the boost you need to do the next thing.

Take it from a Virgo: this system works!

PURIFY YOURSELF IN THE WATERS OF LAKE MINNETONKA
…Okay, it might still be too cold to dip your head in a lake in Minnesota. (Brrrr!) But this is a great time to get close to — and ideally into — water.

Depending on where you live, you might choose to spend an afternoon sitting on the beach, swimming in a rooftop pool, meditating in your bathtub, or just taking a long, steamy shower. All of these experiences can be transformed into something magical and meaningful, it just requires you to set your intention and allow yourself to slip into a ritual space.

The New Moon is the ideal time to set fresh goals and get clear about what you want, and since Pisces is a water sign — and some would say the wateriest of all! — it makes sense to marry the two. Float in some saltwater and visualise your next big goal. Allow the ocean, lake or bathwater to inspire you to be fluid, to be open to possibility, to be as big and deep as you wanna be. Yum.

(Oh, and if you have no idea what I’m talking about with Lake Minnetonka? You’re welcome. Twice.)

RECONNECT WITH YOUR HOME
I loved this piece, Where Is Your Sanctuary?, for the way it illuminates Pisces’ influence on our astrological charts. April’s article gives some excellent examples of how Pisces in different houses affects our sense of home and sanctuary — check it out!

If you’ve never done your chart, the AstroTwins have a great free chart generator which breaks everything down for you. When you enter your data, look for the Pisces symbol on the outside of the wheel — it looks like this. Then look in towards the middle of the chart, and trace the piece of pie back to where there’s a number. That will tell you what house Pisces is in, and then I’d recommend Googling “Pisces in the 3rd house” (for example). It will tell you oodles!

Love and magic,

P.S. The Radical Self Love Almanac — your ultimate planner for a magical 2016 — is now only $20, and it’s loaded with rituals, tarot card spreads, horoscopes and articles to help you power up to make this the best year ever. Don’t miss it!

P.P.S. My friend Christopher Witecki made a great video about this solar eclipse. You should watch it, but the summary? Do what feels good!
