People I Like (Who You Might Like Too)
[ 24 July 2007 ]

John Halcyon Styn
A long-time internet star, pink-haired Halcyon’s journal is a beacon of hope. His most recent project, Hugnation is a weekly, international hug anyone can participate in! It happens on Tuesdays at 1pm Pacific time.
“The world is torn apart. We need to connect. We need to be able to reach out and feel that there are people out there who care and love and feel like we do. Now, more than ever, we need to use any tools we have to heal our planet. Will it work? A better question is, “Will we try?”“
I adore him for his enduring spirit, perpetual enthusiasm, light-hearted vanity, entertaining videos & pink RV, aka the Hugmobile, which is going on tour in October! (Also, I met him at Burning Man last year. I was a bit messy & I think I made a huge goober of myself, but he was totally gracious & cool!)

Rob Breszny
Rob’s weekly horoscopes are brilliant; even if you don’t care for astrology, his advice is positive, uplifting & holistically wise. His book, Pronoia Is The Antidote For Paranoia: How The Whole World Is Conspiring To Shower You With Blessings is fantastic. I picked up my copy in a secondhand bookshop in San Francisco for a pittance, which was great because I had wanted to own it for ages!
I found his Prayer For You tonight (via Halcyon, above!):
“Guide them to realize that they are all completely different from what they’ve been led to believe about themselves, and more exciting than they can possibly imagine … Make it illegal, immoral, irrelevant, unpatriotic, and totally tasteless for them to be in love with anyone or anything that’s no good for them … Remove, banish, annihilate, and laugh into oblivion any jinx that has clung to them, no matter how long they’ve suffered from it, and even if they have become accustomed or addicted to its ugly companionship … Teach them to be their own prophets and pray to themselves and right their own wrongs and sing their own songs and be their own wives and save their own lives.”

Guy Kawasaki
The founder of evangelism marketing (where your customers are so rabid for the product that they do the marketing for you), Guy is an accomplished business writer & fantastic thinker. On his blog, How To Change The World, he manages to write about all kinds of previously dull subjects in a way which is shiny & thrilling! I just watched The Art of the Start, his speech about starting a company & I’ve been sitting here thinking about iCiNG in a whole new way since. Read How to Get a Standing Ovation & The Art of Schmoozing II to get an idea of how valuable the man really is, then subscribe to his blog & lap it up regularly!
Who’s blowing your socks off at the moment? Share the genius!
Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala ![]()

Great article…it’s always nice to hear about positive people spreading their ideas and love. I’m a big SARK fan (www.planetsark.com). Her beautiful multi-hued handwritten books, uplifting words, and little drawings are like a rainbow in the dark.
thanks for the intro to these fab people. i love finding positive vibes on the net. love it!
i agree with lesley, sark is great.
nice to see that not everyone has succumed to the massive self-pity party of the internet. :D
right now Beck is knocking my socks off, I’m generally much more influenced by music and lyrics than I am by reading books or articles. But thats just me.
Yay for those people! Thanks for sharing. You make my list for one.
Then there’s manko suicide who I find so inspiring and Lydia Lunch as far as living legends go!
Oohh these guys have such brilliant minds and wonderful things to say to inspire others, i love it! I’ve been wanting to get some new amazing blogs to read, good post doll! Oh and I looooove www.zenhabits.net i’m addicted to it, the author offers wonderful ideas and tips to use in our daily lives.
I am in love with Jenna Genio (livejournal.com/users/jenvg). She’s actually a bit… well, morbid is the wrong word. But, her art is gorgeous, + she writes hella honestly.
Well, a person I really like is Maria Festli Eriksen: http://fugged.livejournal.com/
She’s a great photographer and her life is so colorful and interesting and fun! Her journal is really worth checking out :)
at the moment i am reading helen kellers biography. it was only ebook i could find that looked a tiny bit interesting, that i could download to look busy at work.
i find her really amazing, and it has got me thinking i need to get out and do more, and stop letting stuff get in my way.
Lesley & Aimee — I loooove SARK too! I gained a lot from reading her books, they were probably the first thing I found which started to ease me out of my negative/depressive lifestyle… I used to go to Borders & devour them while sitting on the floor!
lalumiere — Beck is great, I love ‘Sea Change’!
zoe — Gosh, thank you! & yes, Manko! She is so beautiful. I have pictures of her in my apartment :> Wish she wasn’t an SG, though.
Mae Jane — Zen Habits is fantastic, I agree! I read quite a few kind of efficiency/self-help blogs, have you seen ‘Dumb Little Man’?
Beth — I’d never seen Jenna’s journal before but I reeeally like it, great eyeball fodder!
Ajda K — Oooh, I like that! I am so envious of good photographers. It would be marvellous to be super-talented with a camera, sigh!
sarah — Anything that makes you feel like that is a good thing :D

Jo — Ooh, I do! That girl is awesome, I’ve subscribed to her blog now. Thank you!
What about zefrank…www.zefrank.com/theshow/ was my retreat every day. I still have his show on german phrases and the giant baby song on my myspace. I love him!
Sea Change is sooo beautiful… but my new favourite thing to do is dance around my room while listening to Sexx Laws! though sitting in a comfy chiar reading a good book listening to sea change is definatley good for the soul. :)
Dumb Little Man? Tell me more!
a*my — Zefrank is a cutie ;>
lalumiere — I love dancing around to pretty much anything, haha. At the moment, it’s mostly Madonna’s newest album, I reeeeeally like it!
Mae Jane — http://www.dumblittleman.com! I’m pretty keen on it, they mix up the content a lot & most of it is pretty interesting.
Oooh thanks for the link! I’m actually quite hooked now, even though the topics vary, they all offer great advice/info, yet another blog to check daily, love it!
I just discovered your blog this past week(love it!), and was just looking back through your posts. Lo, and behold, you have one of my favorite people in this post, Mr. HalcyonPink. :) I adore his posts through Myspace, and will now go to add him on LJ. Thank You.
I am touched!! Today has been rough, and I feel like i just got a much needed hug. THANK YOU. ((HUG))
Am going through the archives & soaking in the fabulousness! Halcyon sounds fun.
Agreed, Sarah—Helen Keller (and more importantly: her teacher!) still inspires. I consumed countless books about/by/recommended by
her when I was in elementary.
Fictional person I adore is Anne Shirley from the books by L.M. Montgomery. She can be a tad stuffy & cloying at times, but I love how she puts things & sees them.
I like Billy Collins because his poetry can change the world, it is so beautiful. Same goes for Naomi Shihab Nye.
People on the internet that I like (besides Gala!):
~fridasnotebook.typepad.com
Anyone truly helping out in Afghanistan, not resorting to arms, deserves brownies in my opinion. Plus she says amazing things.
~Photographer Maddie from persistingstars.blogspot.com
I promise you that you will come away from her blog happy and content & ready to relish the remainder of the day.
