Quote of the Day -- 5th September 2007
[ 5 September 2007 ]
“It is absurd to divide people into good & bad. People are either charming or tedious.” — Oscar Wilde
I love this. Talk about a fabulous barometer for life. ‘Am I being charming or tedious? Hmmmm…’
Super-love & cupcakes,

I actually tend to classify people that way.. including me XD, but not allpeople are completelly tedious, they just are at random moments
(gasp first cooment :D )
My lord Gala – i definitely AGREE!! I’m in class at uni at the moment listening to a presentation… girl is not bad, just tedious… so i’m reading you instead – you’re never tedious!
Yes, that would give quite a different perspective. It would damn near turn things right the opposite way around.
Charming criminals and tedious christians.
i love oscar wilde!
my favorite quote by him is:
“fashion is an ugliness so intolerable, that it has to be changed every six months”
hahah
LOL, I was just going to say what ThursdayFriday said : D
Completely agree with you!!
I love Mr. Wilde
My favorite quote from him is on my desk so I can see it several times a day. It is suppossedly his dying words which were along the lines of: “Either that wallpaper goes, or I do.”
Awesome!
I agree with the “classifications”. It also helps you prioritize how you allocate your time – learning to say “No” if you really really don’t want to do something but feel like you are being guilted into doing something.
It has helped me to live a far happier life and do only those things that have value to me.

Hmm… Can I be charmingly naughty?
:3
One of my (many) favorite quotes from the Lemony Snicket Series is:
“People aren’t either wicked or noble,” the hook-handed man said. “They’re like chef’s salads, with good things and bad things chopped and mixed together in a vinaigrette of confusion and conflict.”

oscar wilde is the best.
new strategy: what would oscar wilde say?
I recently picked up the Martin Fido illustrated Wilde biography – not as prestigious as the Ellmann one, but with lots of lovely pictures of fops in floppy bows! As well as being a wit, Oscar seems to have genuinely been a lovely, caring man. Yaay!
I also found the biography of one of his contemporaries, Melbourne artist Charles Conder. Expect an article about both of them and others too, within a week!
Oscar is a wise chap for sure but nothing quite beats creating your own quotes to live by like…
‘The city, a concrete canvas, painted by few but touched by all’
‘Life is just one continuous dance… mine’s the salsa’
‘Luck is simply the sum total of location, desire and human engineering’
Oh, I LOVE Oscar Wilde.
His quotes are all so witty.
“I can resist anything but temptation” is one of my favourite quotes.
From the same play, I believe :]
ahh, oscar wilde … is there anything he can’t do?
yes, oscar wilde. such a dandy.
i have a card on my wall that has a picture of a woman in a ridiculously huge skirt. underneath, there is an oscar wilde quote:
“fashion is what one wears oneself. what is unfashionable is what other people wear.”
he is full of fabulousness.
Hee! There’s my new email signature – thanks, Gala!
I believe it was W.H. Auden who said that people are never right or wrong, only actions are. Interesting thought…
I LOVE that man. I visited his grave in Paris; it was completely covered with lipstick-kiss prints. If that’s not charming, I don’t know what is! (note to future Paris-travellers: visit him and eat a piece of good dark chocolate under the shadow of the angel and the kisses. it’s guaranteed to make your day fabulous.)
haha, this is one of my favourite oscar wilde quotes!! what a great man.
I disagree, for once. But it’s still a fun frivolous idea!
@ Market Chippie: awww, i wish i’d seen that!!
