Rosewater

Rosewater!

I love rosewater. It makes me happy. I like to buy it in strange glass bottles from imported food stores. Here are some things you can do with it if you get your hands on some!

<3 Add it to your glass of morning orange juice
<3 Make blood orange & rosewater sorbet
<3 Put a couple of splashes of it in a big cold jug of water
<3 Create baby rosewater meringues
<3 Add it to your cookie mixture
<3 Use it as an ingredient in ice-cream
<3 Make bandung or lassi
<3 Pour some into a spray bottle, keep it in the fridge & spray it on your face on hot days (or use it as a toner after cleansing)
<3 Make pistachio & rosewater cupcakes
<3 Drink rosewater cocktails: wild thing #2, rosewater rickey or this Campari concoction
<3 Spray it on your sheets in the middle of summer to cool them down & scent them
<3 Make white chocolate panna cotta with rosewater syrup
<3 Whip up rosewater & pistachio crème brûlée to impress everyone!

Do you have any secret rosewater recipes?

P.S. If you can’t find any to buy, why not make your own?

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  5. I love rosewater…
sorry if this sounds a tad morbid, but it was my Grandmum’s favourite scent. So at her funeral we sprayed the house and her coffin lightly with it. I still love it, and some might think that it’d remind me of death but I think it reminds me more of when she was alive =)

  6. ..oh and my name. Hahah..my grandmum I believe had a hand in naming me because my name means ‘Desert Rose’ or rather Rose.
    and I love Lassi!

  7. I wish I could make the blood orange rose water combo, or the cookies, but unfotunately I’m allergic to roses. Well, basically all flowers, but the roses were the ones that made my face all puffy and red.

  13. Rose Tea drunk from one of those gorgeous decorated Turkish-style glasses with a square of Rose Turkish delight!!!!!!!!!

Turkish Delight is a bit of a pain to make, but I have done it… I used a no-gelatin recipe which takes a long time but is authentic and much better as well as being edible for vegetarians …

  14. Your timing is so strange! I had a tea party just the other day in which I made rose flavored cupcakes for the first time… They were amazing! I have plenty of rosewater left, now I’ll have to try all these things!

  15. It does much to improve the flavour of my daily tonic of 1L of water plus a tablespoon of cider vinegar. Healthy!

It is also delicious sprinkled on fruit salads or soups, and even (traditional middle eastern trick here) plain or coconut rice to be served with curry or mangoes.

  16. i use it in almost everything you’ve listed (except i make turkish delight creme brulee – i haven’t tried pistachio!, and i also use it in things like mahalepi, etc.), but just as i accessed the site a minute or so ago i was drinking a smoothie of watermelon, strawberries, apple juice, biodynamic honey yoghurt, ground linseeds and …. rosewater!

i love the stuff. when i was little, my mother would sprinkle it in milk to make me drink it (i have always hated plain milk!). it’s such a nostalgic taste, for me.

  17. I use Jurlique rosewater (it was part of a gift) and I love it but I’m told you can get it cheaper at Middle Eastern grocers.

    <3 Fiona · Jan 30, 09:02 PM · #
  18. I love rosewater! I’m using it as a toner at the moment, and I’ve got to try it in some of the other ways you suggested, especially in water- delicious! Rose syrup in water is wonderful.

Fiona- I get mine at a delicatessen or a health food shop, but I bet a Middle Eastern grocer would be ideal. Rosewater sold for cooking is a fraction of the cost of Jurlique’s product.

  20. You can spray rosewater on your sheets and bedlinen before you iron them. It makes your boudoir smell rosetastic!

  21. Definitely just went out of my way today to find a tiny bottle of the stuff in order to try the things on your list. I LOVE the scent of roses, so I definitely had to get some! Can’t wait to try blood orange and rosewater sorbet…

  23. found your site just surfin’...

rosewater! i became enamored with it after sucking down many drinks called ‘coquette’ at a bar here in sf called the orbit room. it’s concocted somewhat like this…

    vodka
    dash of campari
    dash of rosewater
    dash of lavender water
    fresh squeezed lemon juice
    bit of cranberry juice
    soda water float
    sugared apple garnish.

    sooo good!

  24. Less than buying rose-water I mostly just buy rose-extract… which I think is basically anise seed extract. Rose gelato is probably the greatest invention known to mankind. Also tiny rose bonbon candies that come in tins, I love those. Violet ones too (I like violet water rather a lot, I use to use it for perfume).
