Some Truth

[ 28 November 2008 ]

Dependin’ on the day & dependin’ on what I ate
I’m anywhere from 20 to 35 pounds overweight
I got red eyes & one of them’s lazy
& they both squint when the sun shines so I look crazy.
I’m albino man, I know I’m pink & pale
& I’m hairy as hell, everywhere but fingernails
I shave a cranium that ain’t quite shaped right
Face type shiny, I stay up & write late nights.
My wardrobe is jeans & faded shirts
A mixture of what I like & what I wear to work.
I’m not mean & got a neck full of razor bumps
I’m not the classic profile of what the ladies want…
You might think I’m depressed as can be
But when I look in the mirror I see sexy ass me!
& if that’s somethin’ you can’t respect then that’s peace
My life’s better without you actually.
To everyone out there, who’s a little different
I say damn a magazine, these are God’s fingerprints
You can call me ugly but can’t take nothing from me
I am what I am, doctor you ain’t gotta love me.

Lyrics from everyone’s favourite albino Muslim rapper, Brother Ali!

Love letters & feather headdresses,

  2. I agree wholeheartedly. Recently I’ve spent more time surrounded by people who aren’t afraid to be a little different (I love musicians, what an awesome bunch) and I can’t tell you how great it feels not to be afraid of how they might look at me when I do something strange just because I feel like doing it. Conformity sucks, people!

  4. That’s amazing. I’m still working on feeling that way about myself and life in general. It’s taking forever.

  5. I have to admit I often judge people by their looks. It is a habit that I’m trying to change. I judge myself by what I wear and my physique constantly. Maybe I’m just an aesthetics person, but probably I should judge people by their personality instead..

  13. Very cool! It seems the ‘disability revolution’ is coming upon us now, FINALLY. No more hiding away, people! You don’t have anything to be ashamed of!

  14. That’s really great! I’m not usually a fan of the genre but I’ll probably end up buying that just because the sentiment behind the song is so inspiring and awesome!

Thanks for posting that Gala, as some others have said, I’m working on feeling like that about myself.

  16. That’s an amazing song.
It’s good to hear other people sing who are confident in themselves.

“These are God’s fingrprints.” I really like that line.

  17. Awesome song. This is my big brother’s ringtone, and I always forget to ask him what the song is called.
Funny how life hands you answers sometimes?

  18. Ah I’m really glad you all enjoyed this. I have had the song forever but never really listened to the lyrics. The other day it came on & I started paying attention, & I loved it! Brother Ali is super-talented & a pretty wicked person from what I can see.

  21. Adam Snider — I concur! I saw him in 2006 & he was brilliant. I think I’m also going to see him in January (with Atmosphere & MURS who I haven’t seen before & am totally STOKED ABOUT)!
