Spring Fever
[ 7 April 2009 ]

Spring is coming to New York City & I’m so excited. Even though I haven’t experienced a full winter since 2007 (!!!), I still adore spring. It’s easily the most beautiful time of year. Pitter patter…
The shops are full of the new season’s trends — florals (of course), fresh colours & bold silhouettes; sequins, jumpsuits & fringe; draped necklaces, embellished headbands & big bangles; slashed denim, ripped lace & neon accents. It’s totally overwhelming & extremely exciting. So of course, I’ve been thinking about my spring fashion concept…
I don’t have any definite answers yet, but know that while my usual trademarks will be in place — big, ridiculous shoes, oversized cardigans, candy-coloured hair & a cornucopia of sparkly accoutrements — I’ll definitely be supplementing with some yummy trends. I am envisioning lots of skirts, high heels, & jewellery which acts as my own personal percussion section.
Here are some things which have been keeping me awake at night. What are you dying to wriggle into this season?
Clockwise: Miu Miu Whipstitch patent pumps; Givenchy leather ankle sandals; Fendi strappy patent sandals; Viktor & Rolf heels; bracelets from Forever 21; headband from Colette; panties from Forever 21; Fendi wedge-heel boots; Balmain sandals.
Clockwise: House of Holland shirt; La Perla bra; bat bag from Topshop; La Perla suspender belt; translucent sunglasses; oversized tote from Forever 21; Proenza Schouler boots.
Clockwise: Patent purse; headbands from Forever 21; Sonia Rykiel sweater; Karen Zambos skirt; wicked frames; Swarovski ring; cubic zirconia ring; Givenchy leather ankle sandals; neon pink Dr Marten boots; Pauric Sweeney overnight bag; Frye harness boots.
Love letters & feather headdresses,

How funny, I just did a post on shoes myself! Mine crashed last night, haha!
I love shoes and spring is definitely the reason to get excited about them all over again! yes!
Oooh…. Bright colors, what?!
I’ve been on a study abroad in London (I’m a NY regular) for the past semester, so I’ve been adopting the dark with bright pops thing that they have going on here. My look has actually been picking up far more dark colors than usual over the past few months (we all know how a wardrobe revamp goes for college students, eh?), and I’m interested to see what happens to me when I go back home.
Good for you though, Gala! I’m certainly looking forward to you in more skirts- I personally think you rock the hell outta that maxi skirt you pull out every once in a while, and early spring is def. the time for things like that. :)
Shoes, glorious shoes! #1 love affair. Mine are all lined up in my hallway… I only brought 8 pairs with me & I miss the rest desperately. Haha. TIME TO STOCK UP!
Oh, Gala, you’d be so proud. I splurged on a pair of patent leather combat boots this weekend. Hah! Can’t wait to pair them with some little floral dresses, all 90s-stylie.
Sal — HOT! I expect pictures!
teehee, that f21 patent leather bow headband is currently on my forever21.com wishlist, waiting to be included in my next order.
speaking of black patent leather: i love that you are sticking with it even in spring because after all it is not the most springtimy of all things. but i agree that stuff as fabulous as patent leather should be worn all year. and it glistens so beautifully in the sun. and looks great against bare skin.
so are you planning on getting a jumpsuit? i think you would definitely rock it – and not everyone can!
i am really excited about sequins and lace and platform patent leather peeptoes and summery pencil skirts and huge bright sparkly necklaces for this spring.
I’ve been working on getting in shape all winter, being cooped up because of the cold gave me a lot of extra free time.
My legs are looking fantastic this spring and once the puddles are gone, I’m looking forward to wearing my new heels (first real splurge on a pair of shoes!) with my cute new shortss. But yeah, I’m really just excited about not having to wear my giant parka everywhere.
So long layers. :D
jolianna — I have 2 jumpsuits already! Looking forward to breaking them out again. Number one: galadarling.com/article/daily / galadarling.com/article/daily Number two: galadarling.com/article/daily ! But I will probably buy at least one more… Haha.
I am thrilled by the overabundance of STUDS this year :D Though it does make me giggle a little, after working in an independent alt/music shop and showing kids how to pound the studs we sold for 35 cents a bag into their jeans, now they’re back on the runway…I can wear my studded jacket covered in band patches again and not only be kickass, but trendy as well XD
Jumpsuits and rompers will be hot this year (again and forever)!!
Also feeling pleats, covered wedges, cameras, sky-high heels… passports, fun lingeré, big earrings, rings and bangles….
Always: bright hair, brighter eyes, big dreams…
(That’s my official forecast)
I forgot about TopShop! I’ve got a friend working there and that purple draped dress by Mario Schwab is the perfect excuse to go visit her at work!
I’m a bit surprised by all the jumpsuits, but they’re seriously awesome. I’ll have to try some on and see if I can stuff my boobage into one.
OMG shoe porn they look devine, I want them all fuck the blisters :p
oh please, give me all those shoes. except for the Dr. Martins, not a fan anymore.
amazing gala! i would love to see you percussion the heck out of your accessories!
KILL ME NOW! I wants go shopping so badly! Spring and summer clothes lust! But alas, I am a poor student at university and cannot afford such fun. Jealous!
Whoa, I’m pretty jealous NYC is starting to feel Spring – it snowed here this morning!
This post has done nothing but fuel my desire to go out and drop a whole lot of money on a whole lot of unnecessary stuff. i *heart retail therapy (o:
AN AWESOME, ASSHUGGING PAIR OF JEANS.
My favourite pair is distintegrating and I’m scambling to replace them.
Also: A tan. I know it’s not exactly clothing but I feel a little bit less naked when I have one
now only if i figured out how to walk gracefully in such banging shoes…
My spring/summer look is gonna consist of floofy dresses ridiculously tall wedges I can finally wear my red hot salvatore fergamo’s they’ve been waiting so patiently in my closet since october.
I’m going to try to be more colourful ‘cause this trend for grey and black EVERYTHING is getting really stale.
-I want to get:
-A pair of red lolita heart shaped glasses
-A white floofy dress
-A slinky sequined mini dress “mother’s lock up your sons!”
-I also want to get some sort of bondage-y dress or skirt.
-A pair of doc martens is awfully tempting too
xox
The bat bag will be mine…. oh yes….
Love the Proenza Schouler boots, too, and the Fendi shoes.
Agreeing about the fake tan lotion, I have the skintone of a vampire!
I HAVE THE NEON PINK DOCS! And believe me, I’ve been working them into every outfit since I bought them. :)
I really want to do a romantic futuristic this season. I love retro-futurism and I love girly duds, so I’m thinking I want to buy early 60s Pierre Cardin inspired dresses with silver 20eye Doc Martens.
Actually, I’d really like to find some floral mod dresses to pair with silver 20 eye Docs. Yes. That’s what I want for spring.
love the pink boots and the rest of the clothes.

What a delightful selection! I want everything, especially that bright blue handbag. Shame I don’t have a spare £1000+ lying around, it’s gorgeous.
My trusty white engineer boots literally fell apart last week, so a new pair of boots is my must-have item for the next few months.
Ahh if only the Givenchy sandals weren’t leather and over a thousand pounds ha! Beautiful!
I am so excited for Spring/Summer! All the clothes are vibrant, and there are LOTS of cute dresses and skirts and wedges in stores. Im actually going to splurge on a pretty much all new wadrobe this year … I deserve it! :)
All of those shoes are hot!!!
I’ve recently got awesoeme new boots with lacingd down the backs and a few other items…
As a lover of latex I’m liking those wet look tights (I dont have the usual sesons so umm not sure if its spring or not… North Aus we only have wet and dry!)
I have a pair that look as if theyre made from the material my mothers 90’s arobics comp costume was made of. :D
awesome!
-Harmen pants wooh theyre so comfy love em!
Im looking for ways to rock my new cropped faux fur leopard print jacket, since its getting a little cooler in the evenings at least.
Gala, I love you! Great Spring ideas!
x Lucy
My look for summer is rustic with a dash of modern flair.
I am stocking up on plaid short sleeve button ups in reds, blues, and greys to pair with slouchy cardigans and skinny jeans. Only instead of pairing my outifts with my old leather Steve Madden boots, I decided to switch it up this year by throwing in my new white 1914 Doc Martens instead. Add one Japanese talking watch, Paul Frank white-rimmed plastic frames, and a new short pixie cut. Voila! Spring here I come.
I LOVE everything in the 2nd set down, those headbands are definitely something I would wear! If I’m not allowed to have candy colored hair candy colored hair accessories are the next best thing. Love your style!!
ahahaha unless somethings going wrong in my head those candy coloured things in the second set down are a bra and garter not head wear (unless you got super creative and dont mind odd looks as you stroll down the street) XD
I assume you mean third!
teehee
This spring, I really want to expand my wardrobe and liven it up because all my clothes are out of style and repetitive! ha! I’m really interested in purchasing a lot of spring and summer dresses! I want to feel loose in the summer, as opposed to wearing jeans all the time! ugh! & of course, cute shorts to match my simple yet elegant style shirts, which I have yet to purchase!! New shoes of course! Shoes are always a problem for me because I have very very small and narrow feet, so you can imagine how hard it is to buy shoes! More cardigans! I absolutely love them, especially from Urban Outfitters!! oh! and I can’t forget, to buy new studs from etsy.com. They have the best earrings. In essence my goal this spring/summer; to buy simple yet elegant clothes. I really want to come into my own woman! haha! oh my, I’m rambling now…
Oh my goodness. I must stay away from black shoes. I have too many! (But these are so gorgeous and tempting!)
Oh wow. Those Miu Miu pumps made me gasp – unfortunately they are so far out of my uni student price range it’s not even funny. One day I’ll get my hands on some! Or at least something similar.
Hi dear Gala…
I moved to Japan recently and now I have to wear a school uniform with really strict rules… Do you have any ideas on how to spice it up?
Anyhow I really like your spring fashion concept, it is very Gala haha.
x
I have some very, very wrong feelings for those Givenchy sandals. Oh my!
Oh my. I want those pink Docs. Now. Please?
No full winter since 2007! Sun chaser (:
I love the choices you picked. Stylish and edgy!
Yum
I noticed your beautiful pink signature!
I’m kind of interested in the Harem pants trend…
And maybe I’m a smidge behind on the boyfriend jean look, but they flatter my behing like never before!
I’m digging that headbands with bows are so big right now! I need to go to NYC jsut fro Forver 21 to stock up….Philly seems to be lacking in that department.
I’m all about hair accessories and cute summery like dresses. I’m already stocking up on my hair bows and assortment of sparkly hair ornaments and am still on the hunt for THE perfect summer dress. More preferably in the colours sunflower yellow, burnt orange, ocean blue or baby pink!
Oh and loads and loads of sparkly flats and sandals! Perfect for those long walks on the beach! I am so cliche!
xoxo
Steph.
I want those Miu Mius!!!
Oh Ms. Gala,
i’m totally “girl crush-ing“ on you after this post. I would walk down the street holding your hand & buy you a balloon in any of those outfits!
Oh, what fun adventures could be had. Running all over town in fun masks or animal ears. Pictures in abandoned buildings. Impromptu picnics.
Oh, now I am just babbling. How fashion does inspire.
Hersheys Kisses,
Kat
Any time the weather is warm I’m all about the summer dresses, this is no exception. I feel like it’s the female answer to men being able to walk around with no shirt on in public. This season, however, I am OBSESSED with great big hair accessories! Those headbands and others like it are brilliant, though I prefer the slightly more versatile hair clips. Feathers, flowers, sparkles, the bigger and brighter the happier I am! My mohawk’s just grown out enough to give them something to hold on to, too :) Best part, if they aren’t cheap already, they are totally DIY friendly.
