[ 22 July 2009 ]
Wear stacks of silver bracelets & cuffs & channel Kate Lanphear (Style Director of US Elle).
Dry roses by hanging them from your ceiling.
Clean your make-up brushes! Use gentle shampoo & lay them down to dry. Not using brushes to apply your make-up? Start!
Make a photographic collage of all your old lovers & see if you can work out if you have a “type”!
When you’re feeling unpretty, shop for hats, perfume or shoes instead of jeans.
Get a pair of 3d glasses & keep them in your wallet.
Start wearing an equestrian helmet (ModCloth have a great one!).
Buy a bubble machine & set it up in your bedroom.
Get a Neighborhoodie made.
Wear silver glitter hairspray!
Run yourself a bath full of delicious bubbles & read a book.
Wear false eyelashes to the supermarket.
Have an affair with someone wildly inappropriate.
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Great style tips! Except the “neighborhoodies” link doesn’t have an “s” at the end so it goes to a random weird website. Just letting you know!
I’m loving the sparkling hair spray idea, I want to get my hands on it! =D
oh how i’ve missed style tips.
on the eyelashes to the supermarket,
i once wore super high heels, a knee length trench coat over silky underwear and stockings, and big dark shades.
the looks i got were hilarious.
its really fun :D
hand held bubble machines are fun as well, but if you put it in your bag to carry round, make sure you put it in a plastic bag cause they leak!
xxx
those are great tips. Must try the bubble machine one for my sitting room (bedroom is too small).
I’ve done the lover collage thing before and found that I have a very definite type – tall, thin, long straight hair, though most cut it off once we start dating. And I love shopping for hats and hair accessories when I’m having a bad body day – shoes always fit!
Fabulous tips as always, Gala! Thank you!
I have to say, I was obsessed with Francesca Lia Block as a teenager. Your blog is like a version of her books I can still find happiness and inspiration in.
So cute!
The bubble bath I did last night and I was recently in a show where we all covered ourselves in glitter! It was brilliant!
These tips, as always, are preciously cute!
I am starting to plan to redo my bedroom, and I think a bubble machine would be a perfect addition. Also lovin the hairspray :]
Where did you get yours, Gala?
Oh I missed these.
Always love your inspiring style tips article Gala _
I`ve found going to the supermarket dressed up is a great way to spice up the dreaded groceries. I imagine how my local supermarket-crew just can`t wait to see me sparkling through the aisles again.. hihi
Love the 3d glasses idea! Its so reminds me of the movie `Science of Sleep` where Stephane shows Stephanie his invention, 3d glasses and she says `isn`t life already in 3d` and he says `yeah but, come on.`
Go rent the movie NOW
Whenever I’m having a bad “unpretty” day, I always shop for bras and panties. Matching!
I checked off that last one in college. I was hot for teacher. Eeeep! ;)
I love that theres a few bubbly things on the list, its reminded me to take a bubble blower out with me more!
Plz add: Keep a little container of bubbles in your bag!
hehe :D
I love the tip about not shopping for jeans when you are unhappy, it just makes you sadder, most of the time.
Great post!
I love these! They bring a smile to my face just reading them. Shopping for handbags works when you’re feeling unpretty, but my fave is jewelry!
i missed these :)
Hell Yeah! to shopping for anything but jeans if you’re feeling unpretty!! I completely agree, lacey undies tend to do the trick, as well.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one for whom jeans’ shopping is a dicey proposition!
this made me think of you: www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?...
I’ve been missing my dose of Style Tips!
Thankyou Gala xo
i have many ideas about secret lover journals that i shouldn’t share on a public forum. Maybe i’ll send you an e-mail & divulge my nefarious plans.
I feel like i should be wearing a monocle.
Oh, and anyhow, Miss Gala! I have started blogging. Finally. Not in a formal sense, i’m just trying to post every day.
I love when you post style tips! :) And I do need to clean my makeup brushes, the pinks are melding with the greens to make odd colors. I wish I could make a collage of old lovers, but there has only ever been one! That tip will have to wait, I suppose.
P.S. Sometimes i forget my thoughts aren’t outside of my head, i forget that i used to comment all the time at the beginning, and get caught up in my busyness —
but, i wanted to say – i saw the progress of the site through Star & i am thrilled it is up. It looks amazing!
Also, if i don’t share many words, you, Miss Gala, are always an inspiration to me. Your color & your zest!
(one of my favourite compliments ever given to me was when someone told me i was “zesty.”)
I’m always reading, even if i’m not saying the words. I love you loads! Miss you from the big gay bay! Want a post card from Burning Man this year? E-mail me your mailing address – i’ve wanted to send you some of my mail art, anyway.
lots of hearts & mallows,
Miss Bee
I think I need a constant kick up the tush to get me cleaning my brushes, really should do it after each use… am rather lazy though ;) Thanks for the inspiration!
w00t, style tips!
Sometimes that affair one just gets you into trouble >.<
But I love #1!
Oh, I love the idea of daily use of glitter hair spray! So fabulous
Oh geez. I really need to clean my makeup brushes.
There is nothing like trying on fabulous shoes to make you feel pretty again!
I like the idea of a collage to figure out your type…although I don’t even need to do that. I am very aware that my type is a cross between Han Solo and Indiana Jones haha.
Glitter of any kind always brightens my day and makes me feel super sassy. And I was already working on the affair…lmfao. Just need to find someone is all…. :-p Someone different from my usual type (damn those musicians!)
dried roses! along this train of thought, i would recommend taking a leisurely stroll around the park/neighborhood/area and picking weird-looking wildflowers…and, if you’re brave enough to flirt with the law, flora from the neighbor’s yard! ;] call it a collection of found things.
Love these tips! It’s amazing what a difference cleaning your makeup brushes regularly can make; clean brushes definitely make a difference in preventing breakouts over time.
I love dried roses. Whenever I get flowers, I dry a few and keep them in martini glasses on my shelves. They look gorgeous! Great decorating tip there.
I’m also a fan of bubble baths with a glass of wine and book of poems. No better way to unwind!
Unless there’s a wild, inappropriate affair in the jacuzzi bubble bath with you ;) sigh I love my life…
Yum! The style tips are all totally nice.
Don’t now where to begin but I feel like starting with one of them tonight. The last one sounds nice but I think for today I’m going to clean my makeup brushes, thehe.
:) Keep up the good work!
I think I’ve been picking up on your mind frequency… I’ve been wanting glitter hairspray!
Many of these are things I do already, such as the glitter hairspray (I’ve been known to wear it to work) and I used to wear silver bracelets all the time! Not so much anymore though, as I have really tiny wrists so the bang into each-other and generally get in the way when I’m typing, which I do rather a lot of!
I do need to clean my makeup brushes though, thanks for the reminder! :)
Thanks so much for the one about buying perfume etc. instead of jeans. I’ve been feeling unpretty lately – as usual you divulge just the right advice for me!
Wear red lipstick.
I used to wear glitter hair spray all the time in high school! Now I settle for a shine boosting spray but…maybe someday I’ll go back to my glittery ways.
Hahahaa I’m so working on the last tip! The weekend is a near..;)
Fun!! :D
Well, the last one is going well ;)
re: cleaning make-up brushes…if you use them every day, once a week with shampoo or pure soap is OK and I always condition mine with hair conditioner once a month…keeps them silky and stops the hairs from getting all flyaway!(Make sure you rinse them properly though otherwise you might get spots). Nothing nicer than nice clean brushes….unless it’s having lillies next to your bed so you smell them when you wake up!
I agree, sometimes shopping for jeans is the pits – if I’m feeling unpretty, I like buying scarves and bangles!
I do hope that you are not suggesting that we cheat on the person we are with, potentially for the rest of our lives. If we are so willing to heat on our lovers, what right do we have calling the men (or women) in our lives lovers.
If you are suggesting that we cheat, then I have lost a lot of respect for you.
However, I do love the idea of anything involving bubbles.
I just bought an equestrian riding helmet the other day on a whim. Synchronicity!
Love the 3D glasses idea. I went to see “Up” in 3D and was given a pair that looks like Mr. Fredricksen’s glasses.
I’ve been in tears while jeans shopping before. I don’t know why we do this to ourselves, haha, but it’s like all my confidence gets sucked away by those evil fitting room mirrors.
And yes! Yesyesyes false eyelashes everywhere! Hello, my name is Limespark and I’m a confirmed lash addict! Every day you make me happy and inspired anew, Gala, it’s great.
Hurrah, style tips!
I’ve always been a big fan of reading in the bathtub! Love the drying roses on the ceiling idea – I can imagine that it would look super pretty.
Heehee, don’t even start me on my “types”! (I have 2.) :D
I already own 2 ‘Waimauku’ t-shirts, but I need some more ‘Kaitaia’ ones . . .
Gala, you made my day once again !
I’m so glad I have your blog in my life, it’s my summer bible !
Yay! Style tips are my favourite! I just received my new MASSIVE faux lashes from destroyx.com and I’m looking forward to rocking them as much as possible.
Thanks for jazzing up my already jazzalicious morning!
My make-up brushes are in need of a good wash! MAC’s brush cleaner is the best, it won’t dry out the bristles like some shampoos will.
Digging those bracelets! I was wearing a bunch the other night and a couple of guys stopped me at the bar because they had bet on how many I was wearing and wanted to count them!
Thanks for reminding me that I need to clean my make-up brushes! Hehe!
Love Kate Lanphear. Love!
I write eccentricity-profiles of my crushes to find my type(s). True story!
& Kate Lanphear’s glittery silver stud bracelet in the above photo = DIY project, correct?
Konekochan – My thoughts exactly.
As always Gala you have the best tips
Just lettin ya know.. dead flowers, especially flowers people have given you, are extremely bad luck/energy if you let them die/dry them.
I had an affair with somebody wildly inappropriate and he ended up to be the love of my life. Going on three years nowwww.
Thank you for style tips, I have missed them!
I’d never cleaned my brushes before until today (I know its bad :) ) SO much gunk came out. I think I’ll do it every week now!
and a pair of satin or lacy black undies never fails to cheer me up.
I love style tips!
“Affairs” are so NOT stylish.
Not shopping for jeans on a fat-day is such a good tip! L x
Those Neighbourhoodies are so cool! Also, I wonder if I could get away with glitter hairspray at my retail job tomorrow? Hmm…
i like the bubble machine thing!!!!!!
i’ve done the bottom two. check, and check!
finally launching my etsy shop (cupcakesandmustaches, shameless plug), running outdoors and not on a treadmill, beer and peanuts, constantly crocheting, dreaming about having my own real world business.
Gala can you clear up the whole affair thing? I can see from comments it’s not just me feeling uneasy about it :\
