Things I Love Thursday (Um, Friday?!)
[ 4 October 2008 ]

Eeeee! Sorry I’m so insanely late! I arrived in Paris yesterday at 8am, wandered around in a stupor until about 4 & then passed out! I woke up to a non-functioning internet connection, but now I am conscious again & fuelled by caffeine, whee!
This week, I am thankful for…
Being here. But of course. The city of Karl Lagerfeld, cute accents & tiny winding streets… Among other things. The city of lights — La Ville Lumière. (Lumière is my middle name, so it all seems to make sense.) I can’t wait to go exploring today, I have some awesome suggestions of places to visit, & with my headphones, a map & a camera I am unstoppable! I always thought it would be fun to split my time between New York & Paris, so I’m kind of walking around with that in mind, seeing what I can see…
Travelling alone — I love it, I really do. & when I say “travelling”, I mostly mean the actual physical part of getting from A to B, because it’s always nice to have someone to do things with when you arrive. The thing that makes me happiest is being able to do it all at my own pace. I can arrive at the airport insanely early if I want to, I can be as charming as I like to whoever checks me in, & basically I can focus all my intentions on having a great trip & seeing what unfolds. The funniest thing to me is when I think I know what’s best — thinking, “Having these two seats to myself would be excellent” — but then a girl sits down next to me with whom I get along like a house on fire, & who personally delivers me to the hotel at the other end. At first when she sat down, I was disappointed that I wouldn’t get to stretch out, but hey! Trust in the process! It always works, non? & my flight was much more enjoyable for it.
Making new friends — So, further to my point above, on the plane, I ended up sitting next to a girl from Cleveland who was awesome. Her name was Betsy, she was working in France teaching English to children, & we were almost disturbingly similar in our world views. We talked most of the way to Paris, which was great & then she helped me navigate the French train system (which is really very user-friendly but slightly daunting when you haven’t slept properly for 2 days). I also made friends with a little French girl who drew me a million pictures & who I think is in love with me, but that’s a story for another time!
Productivity — Mmmmm, getting things done. Oh, the rush! (What a Virgo…) I recently had a few days entirely to myself, where I didn’t leave the house, & it was great! Haha. I had so many things that I needed to catch up on, & actually doing them was immensely gratifying. Geek-o-rama, but I love it!
Speaking French — First of all, I’m so glad that I took French classes in school. I loved it at the time, but now I can’t stop thinking about how great it is to actually know something which has real practical application! Secondly, even though I feared that I would get here & be awful at speaking & understanding the language, I’m not at all. The best thing is that just being around French speakers & seeing French signs is helping stimulate my memory so that the words I thought I had forgotten years ago have come back. Being able to effectively communicate in another language is soooo satisfying! Ah! I can’t even attempt to articulate the untold pleasure it gives me! So good!
This video which demonstrates the power of saying thank you, & being grateful!
Having my own place — On Tuesday I went to my new place in the West Village & picked up my keys. I move in the day after I get back, & while hauling two suitcases up four flights of stairs won’t necessarily be the most thrilling thing, I am stoked to have my own space! I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but it’s the same building as last time, & in fact the same apartment as last time, just a floor below! It’s completely different to the last one, but it is beautiful & I looooove it. Pictures to come, oh yes!
Unwinding — In my universe, at this time, that mostly means lying down with a blanket & watching episodes of Gossip Girl, Greek, Californication or Entourage. I like it.
Honourable mentions: Late night wine excursions (see also: choosing a wine based on the name alone [Helios] because it’s the name of one of my favourite musical projects, & it being completely delicious); conscious conversations; growing my nails (they look amazing right now!); friends who name dresses after you (!!!); looking forward to taking daily outfit photos in Paris!; people who really look at you when you’re talking; visits from New Zealanders (my amazing friends from Battle Circus are coming to play a show in New York & I can’t wait! They’re also supporting the Dresden Dolls, clever huh?); super-loud thunderstorms; communicating honestly; live music anticipation (Battle Circus, Atmosphere [x 2!], Legendary Pink Dots & Girl Talk are all coming soon!); doing something scary & being massively rewarded for it; the way that French people say “Gala” (it makes me smile); eating spinach & kale chips on the plane; getting a phonecall from my friend in New Zealand when I was waiting to board my plane; Orangina (I like it a lot); hotel rooms with big balconies & bathtubs (I’m going to go to Lush & buy bath bombs & emerge covered in glitter, YAY!); upcoming dates with cute boys & mostly-naked girls!; big bags of Maltesers; exploring gleefully; being featured in this article alongside a whole bunch of people I really admire, & um, can I mention Paris again?!

Okay, how about you? What’s turning your crank today? What are you looking forward to this weekend? Let us know!
Super-love & cupcakes,

Hey, it sounds weird to know you are currently in Paris ! Well, welcome Gala :o) ! I hope you’ll have a wonderful trip !
I will also have the keys of my new place this week-end (hooray !), but I’m the contrary : I used to have my own, and now I will have to share it. But I’ll have to share it with a really cute boy, so that helps, lol !
This evening we’ll go shopping to get some paint for the new flat ! I so look forward to find that green, aqua and blue I’m dreaming of !
I’m glad you landed safely and met such a great airplane BFF!
Hmmm, the things I currently love…
The awesome ladies in my life There was a spot of drama in The House of Von last week that necessitated a few late night sobbing phone calls to my various BFFs, spaced all over the world. They were so lovely and so helpful – I feel so lucky to have such great ladies in my life to help me weather the bumps in the road.
my new (to me) car Sure, it’s white with a tiny maroon stripe and has one of those ridiculous ‘luggage racks’ ala 1994, but it cost the adult equivalent of $2 and it gets me from point A to point B. “Hello, Freedom! How’s it going? Haven’t seen you in a while ..”
Attending ‘VP Debate Bingo’ with a huge group or hilarious, fun, like-minded people
See in Liam Finn in Minneapolis Whenever I see someone/thing that I first encountered abroad, I feel like I’m being reunited with an old friend. “Hey buddy! Remember me!? I was at the San Francisco Bathhouse in Wellington? Along with 300 other people?” I’ve also been ‘reunited’ with Mr. Brown’s canned coffee from Taiwan, Harem pants from Italy and carbonated apple juice from Germany. It’s a total love fest.
yay for paris! isn’t it so beautiful? i took my man there for his 25th and it was the most beautiful and ornate city i’ve ever been to. Have a fantastic time!
my tilt is a bit boring really!
- today i’m off to london to see my best friends (i have said this in every tilt!)
- receiving american apparel goodies in the mail
- planning my birthday! i have sourced a cupcake bakery back home and i will put on an order! (how’s that for organised, my birthday is in december!)
other than that, i am loving playing Little Big Planet, swooning over cupcakes, planning on when to cut and style my hair, saving for my femme sud bag, actually.. saving in general, buying all my christmas presents too early and enjoying wearing my winter coats and hats!
Things I Love Today:
San Francisco – I leave on Tuesday and it’s my first time going to the States! I’m really excited n_n.
Moleskine – I’m loving mine, I’m currently embossing stars all over it and my to-do lists have been getting shorter and shorter ever since I have it.
McDonald’s – On Wednesday night I went with my friends to the off campus McDonald’s and we had caramel sundaes with little 10 peso hamburgers. We talked, talked, talked and talked and listened to Rammstein on our way back to school. I love my friends.
Doing well on exams – I usually get extremely nervous before a exam and most of the time I leave the exam room feeling really sick to my stomach. It all turns well when I get my exam back and see a nice grade on it.
Talking to old friends – Last night I chatted with my friend Ayumi and my friend Rosma. Both are friends from High School whom I haven’t seen in ages. I really miss them but we have such hectic schedules that we can’t meet at all.
Honorable Mentions – Pink, scarves, fuzzy slippers, Maximus, running around, healthy snacks, green, shopping, life in general n_n.
Making plans with my lovely boyfriend: So far, we haven’t decided if we’re spending Christmas here, or there.
Mi goreng: Food of champions…er…starving uni students.
House-hunting: My best friend from middle school is moving out with me, so we’re looking for houses all tomorrow morning.
House-sitting: My second cousin has asked me to house-sit for 6 weeks while she and her family are away, so I get to try and live on my own!
-Cute phone calls, my baby sister actually rang me to ask for advice..I felt loved, and super-proud, just generally warm and fuzzy.
-Sneaking away for “me” time, I spent hours walking along the wharf today, and I feel so much better for it.
-Having an adorable house guest – my flatmates niece, she is the cutest little pixie-mite!(+ we share a name).
-Spending 5 hours helping to make a full sized, purple cardboard guitar, covered in glitter, feathers and ribbons,(totally Elton John meets Hannah Montana…if either of them played guitar?)-giant birthday card for afore mentioned pixie child.
-Being absolutely covered in iridescent glitter!
-Watching my flatmate trying to get glitter out of her carpet, very entertaining!
*-My new shirt *
“Wow you totally look like a little boy..with ruffles and boobs!”
_ -Ladies and Gentlemen, my best friend! _
Hey Gala, I just wondered – are you still with your boyfriend, Simon? I haven’t heard you mention him much! Sorry if I offend you by asking if you’re still together; I’m just nosey .. – or a better word, curious. :)
Have a lovely time in Paris. :)
x Luct
Who doesn’t love Orangina?
I love that I got to know of a mexican iCing girl!!! Julie!! Yeah!
Good luck in Paris, don’t forget to do the most obvious things like eating croissant and taking pictures of “The Tower”.
ahhh, paris! i am trés jealous!
things i have been loving for the past two weeks as i was too busy last week!:
living in london – augh! finally! i decided i was going to move to london when i was fourteen and visited for the first time, and now i am actually here. it is such an amazing feeling.
making new friends – i have met a frankly ridiculous amount of wonderful, beautiful, inspiring people since i moved here, the kind of people who make me happy to be alive.
my new bedroom – okay, so it’s a university halls of residence and it’s pretty grim, but already i’ve covered it in posters and photos and postcards from galleries and vintage holy cards and i love it to death.
starting afresh – already i can feel the people and places that haunted me for the past years slipping off. i genuinely feel like a new person!
losing weight without any effort – i’ve been walking round and dancing and climbing so many stairs that already my thighs are getting super-toned! yay!
realising that actually, i CAN do life – i was convinced i wouldn’t be able to cook for myself, manage anything myself, would get lost constantly, would generally make a huge mess of living on my own…not so! (at least, not if you don’t count the spanish omelette fiasco.)
antici…pation – i’m starting my course on monday! ahhh, i’m so excited! eee!
Congrats on your awesome Parisian experience Gala! ;-)
10/2/08 Things I Love Thursday
Cool weather. Being productive and in the flow. Eating well. Being mad busy at work. Feeling bursts of gratefulness, randomly. Decorating mi casa for Halloween, my favorite holiday. Feeling fabulous at 40. Getting in shape with my best friend, musical partner-in-crime and now workout buddy. ;-)
yay! for people from Cleveland thats where I am at!!!! wooot!!!
Hope you’re having a glorious time in Paris!
exciting things in my world right now:
My New House – So the boyfriend and I bought a house, which is totally exciting. It’s so weird to think that I’m a home owner. It needs a huge amount of work and it’s not even remotely ready to be moved into yet, but the whole process is so awesome.
New schedule at work – After years of bizarre hours (example: today I work from 10:45am-7:15pm..) and months of not having anything that even resembles a real weekend, I’m starting a new schedule on Monday where I’m working Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm. And I have this schedule for the next 4 months. Yay!
October – I love October. It’s Autumn, and we’ve been having some really great autumn-y weather recently. The leaves are changing and the colors are brilliant. And Thanksgiving (My favorite holiday) is in October (here in Canada).
My big brother coming home! – He and his fiancee(..and their dog) are flying in from across the country on Monday evening and are staying untill the end of the month. It’s been over a year since they’ve been home, so I’m completely stoked to see them both.
Things I Love Friday…
1. Doing well on exams!! I have another one today though, so fingers crossed.
2. It’s almost the weekend!!! This is going to be the busiest most work-filled, paper-writing weekend EVER, but it’s still the weekend :)
3. Concealer. What would I do without it?! My skin has gone insane lately…
4. Looking through my closet and concocting a million outfits that I am dying to wear!
5. Gossip Girl! The last episode was so intense, the drama, the clothes, and wow I am in love with Chuck…
6. Alix from Philomel Cottage by Agatha Christie—my new role model!
7. eBay!!!
packing for university – it’s so soon!!
watching tv shows on my ipod – i know, it’s weird, but so much fun. i love pushing daisies way too much.
the darjeeling limited – only just saw it, it’s stupidly cute. much better than the other wes anderson film that i’ve seen.
luke wilson – he’s just weirdly cute. and sweet. i like him a lot.
christina rossetti – the goblin market is awesome.
Hooray for traveling alone! I’m a fan, too, and really enjoy the whole answering-to-no-one set up.
My TiLT on Friday:
1. My new Frye Engineer 8Rs finally arriving, inspired by you, Miss G.
2. On the opposite end, finally getting my act together for a long-needed shopping ban. Had to do some serious soul searching, but have found a peaceful place and made a solid plan.
3. New craft group this weekend, where I’ll finally learn to wire wrap properly.
4. Glorious fall weather and accompanying clothing choices!
beth — That birthday card sounds amazing… I love glitter, way too much. Haha.
Lucy — No, we broke up in July! Or June. Or thereabouts…
sophie~ — Yay, I’m so happy that you’re finally in London! As long as I have known you, it is what you’ve always spoken about & wanted to do! Congratulations :D !
Heather — She was so sweet, she really did Cleveland proud ;>
Aurelie — I have the latest episodes of GG on my computer, I need to catch up!
Sal — Yay, Frye boots! I hope you enjoy them. Mine took quite a long time — okay, an exceptionally long time — to break in, but now I love them a lot.
today I love:
-that me and my boyfriend are going out tonight to celebrate that we’ve been together for three months:)
- that it’s cold enough outside to wear my pretty sweaterdresses
-seing my mother earlier this week
- my amazing roommate who takes care of me when I’m sick
Gala, I’m just curious… when you were in high school, did they teach you Parisian French, or some other version? I live in Ottawa, Canada, which is very close to Quebec, so our public schools generally teach Canadianized French (think terms like “le hockey”). Although I have never been to France (I hope to someday), I know people who have been, and the general sentiment they return with is that the French are very proud of their language (as well they should be), and that they are frequently offended by the Canadianized version that tourists from my city know how to speak. I’m curious what your experience with the language has been!
Also… you’re such a jet-setter these days! Have you considered a post on how to get over the fears that can be associated with travelling? Culture shock and a terrible fear of flying are the main things that give me pause when considering adventures abroad.
I’ll leave you with my first ever TILT contribution! Things I’m loving lately include… * The lady with long red dreadlocks, who sang loudly while motoring down the road on a scooter! * The man who stood on the street corner playing the harmonica loudly and badly. * Take-one-leave-one boxes clinging to telephone poles. * The dog with such fluffy fur and short legs that it looked like it was floating when it walked! * The new Chuck Klosterman novel, gifted to me by my mom. * Maple lattes from Second Cup (mmmmmm…) * The view of Parliament Hill from the terrace of the Chateau Laurier… The Chateau Laurier in general, WOW. * Looking at potential engagement rings and wedding venues with my future hubby to be! * The Canadian debates… I’m so excited to vote!! * Gorgeous crisp Autumn weather and colours, and the scarves I get to wear because of it! * The mac Emmanuel Ungaro collection (I’ll be trading in 6 empties for a free lippie today!)
Becca — They taught us the real deal… I mean, Canada is just as far away from NZ as France is, so there would be no real benefit in teaching us the Canadian version! My experience with the language has been… bumbling. I haven’t used my French speaking skills since 2000 (the last year I was in school), with the exception of 24 hours in Paris in 2003 (I think, maybe 2004). I feel like a toddler! I have made friends with a 4 year old & honestly her French is about a billion times better than mine, hahah. She is very patient with me, though ;>
As for problems that come up when you’re flying… I don’t really know anything about a fear of flying because I don’t have one, but I would suggest using EFT to deal with it! & culture shock… Well… I don’t find that scary, I think it’s just something that happens, & there’s not much you can do about it! I don’t know, I guess I see it as you can either stay in your home town & never experience the shock of anything new, or you can dive right in & soak it up. I prefer the latter, obviously, even though being in new places can be hard, especially when they don’t speak the language. Though honestly it is pretty amazing what a smile & a few polite words will do! In my experience, most people are very sweet & want to help, even in Paris which has the worst rep of all!
—Fridays in general!
—Just this moment figuring out how to hook my iPod up to my work computer speakers. I’m listening to Rhapsody in Blue. Very relaxing.
—My mom’s coming down for the day tomorrow, and she’s bringing a dining room table! I’m excited for her to see my place, my neighborhood…and I’m also very excited to actually have somewhere to sit and eat in our apartment.
—The LA Flower Market! I think I’m going tomorrow morning for the first time ever. WAY excited. I love fresh flowers!
—Just good times, with good friends. I see a few of those coming up.
—MY FIRST PAYCHECK! EEEE! I can pay off my car repairs!
Paris looks amazing, Gala! Oh, to be a world traveler… I’ll just have to stick to DC at the moment.
What do I love this week?
The corner windows in my bedroom apartment, which let in all the beautiful morning light
The amazing fall weather- it’s all blue skies and cool breezes today
My gorgeous boyfriend who told me he could spend hours just staring into my eyes
Celebrating Rosh Hashanah by attending synagogue and having two delicious, Jewish dinners!
My new jacket from Urban Outfitters, which was originally $70, on sale for $40, and turned out to be $20 at the register!
Smith’s Rosebud Salve keeps my lips smooth and shiny
Getting ready for next weekend: a visit from the family and my one-year anniversary with the boy!
Hey! Is that your given middle name or your chosen middle name? Either way it’s lovely. And I’m like quasi-jealous you’re in Paris. Paris is to me what NYC is to other people. Some day I shall go there….
Things I love today:
+ My band new LG Dare phone! Ahhh! My new toy.
+ My boyfriend.
+ My mom!
+ My brother.
+ That damn song “Get Money” by Lil Wayne.
+ Avocado & tomato sandwiches.
+ My beautiful oversized patent purple purse.
+ My overly patent leather boots from Chinese Laundry!
+ Things that are obnoxiously patent leather.
+ “Crying Out For Me” by Mario. He has such a nice voice. And is underrated. But oh well.
Mandy — Awww, give yo’ momma some love from me!
windstruck — Chosen! Though I don’t know if I really chose it, because my whole name came to me in a dream… I do feel like it was more given to me than anything! & hey, you’ll make it here one day soon! Oh & I love that song by Mario too, it’s good to sing along to ;>
San Francisco – I’m loving that there is always some completely awesome DJ/electronic musician playing. I’ve seen MSTRKRFT and Deadmau5 in the last week… they’ve yet to make it to NZ like so many others. I’m making the most of it, but it’s hard to keep up!
Amazon – I’ve bought far too much stuff that I’d never be able to find in NZ and would usually have to pay plenty of postage for. Being in America means shipping is cheap as (bro).
So the French you learned in school is helping you in real life? That’s encouraging! I took 3 semesters of French in high school but I have to retake a language for college and going to France has been on my to-do list forever so I was thinking of just retaking French.
Being stage manager of my first show-A Midsummer Night’s Dream I love the show and I’m meeting lots of fun people in the cast.
Sera Beak’s The Red Book I just got it from Amazon and I’m loving it! It’s giving me so many things to think about.
Hug Nation Tuesday Halcyon’s talks never fail to make me smile.
cat eye make-up
petting stay cats There are sadly a bunch around my campus, but a few are very friendly and always come up to be petted as I’m walking back from class. I’m still sad about the no pets in dorms rule so these kitties are helping me when I miss my pets back home.
snacking on peppermints
TiLT
My grandmother’s 70th was so much fun on Wednesday :)
Getting my car vacuumed and cleaned at its service but not too happy about how much it’s going to cost!! But ahwells, can’t have everything the way you want it – and it’s running a lot better :)
Essay writing and nearly finishing one I’ve been doing for the last 2 weeks…
Late night drives around my neighbourhood and finding random streets that end up back on the main streets. And learning that my reversing in tiny back streets of Kingsland isn’t so bad after all!
My man cooking me breakfast I think that’s all I need to say :)
Looking forward to other people’s travel in Paris, namely Gala I’m planning a trip up to Holland in April for my man’s grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary, and so far the plan is to go to Belgium then to Paris – so any tips and ideas for sightseeing will be much appreciated =)
Oh and Gala – I love Orangina too! =D a dairy up the road sells it really cheap, it’s my favourite summertime drink! I do collect the bottles (so weird but they are the coolest shape) and intend to use them for bunches of wildflowers for summer interior decoration. Enjoy Paris :)
Traveling alone is truly one of life’s simple pleasures!
This week I am loving:
Adorable intelligent children My acupuncturist’s grandson has taken to asking me to read stories to him whenever he finishes a worksheet! So cute – and it fills me with glee to hear that you’ve made friends with a four year-old! There is hope yet that you may love being around kids ;D (like Marilyn Manson! He is such a big softie.)
Purple-toned eyeshadow Given the right tone, it can be just the right amount of drama, allure, and whimsical magic. Mmm.
The color orange Did you see Gilda’s totally cute post in the orange wig?! I love it. And MAC’s Neo Sci-fi eyeshadow comes in an orange pot! Hee.
Eddie Izzard – I have wanted to see Eddie perform standup for about 6 years now. AND I FINALLY HAVE TICKETS!!! He’s performing in London next month at a smallish theatre and I’m so excited!!!
Uni – Things are going swimmingly. I know what I want to do with my degree (forensic & crime scene photography) and it’s making the whole course so much easier now I know what I want out of it.
Lush – I have an interview with Lush on Sunday. And I have the iCing guide to getting a job at Lush for at least part of that. I’m so excited!! I can’t want to show them my mad Lush skills :D
Bunny Rabbits – Odds are me and my boyfriend are getting a fluffy bunny rabbit on Monday as a joint anniversary present to one another. Our anniversary is actually next month but we can’t wait.
Honourable mentions: shortbread, my new AWESOME watch, extra long legwarmers, my new gorgeous purple leather gloves (with bows!), scarves, hot water bottles, student discount :D, cuddly panda bears, hugs, pancakes and gin & tonic.
It’s the first time I comment on a tilt (well, on a tilf!)
- Being an extra in my boyfriend’s student movie.
- Planning my Halloween party (with Halloween cupcakes! Spider chocolate ones, and Pumpkin vanilla ones!)
- Going to this party as Luigi, and my friend as Mario.
- Autumn! Having to wear warmer clothes, cuddling with a blanket, a movie, Oreos, and my boyfriend!
^hehe, tilf
I love playing my music (esp Rolling Stones, The Who, the Doors etc) loudly with the bass turned up to drown out my neighbour’s girly pop music. hehe.
the warm weather! yesterday was insanely hot in Sydney but I actually really enjoyed it – I ate lemonade icy poles all day
making new clothes – I’ve been on break from uni for the last two weeks and instead of catching up on homework, I’ve been making lots of cute summery dresses!
looking after my tiny little garden (3 potplants…)
Pushing Daisies… still haven’t watched the new season! I will today. that show always makes me want to eat pie…
-watching cute guinea pig videos on youtube
-talking to my parents on skype
-the level of hilarity that the daily show has reached due to this ridiculous election
-the vp debate potluck party my friends had last night!
-indian food and dim sum
-starting to actually feel toned from my workout classes
-the sequins i wove into my hair
-crisp weather, pumpkin season!
-petticoats under dresses
-the fact that my boyfriend and i slept straight through school today, which means i will be well rested for a) the party tonight and b) the 12 hour theater thingy i am doing tomorrow
also i’m glad you are loving paris. i miss it and its crepe stands on every corner. you should check out colette!
I’m feeling excited and happy just HEARING about you in Paris! You are going to rock this city!
Onto the TiLT-
-Edible Art Days in art class. In which a bunch of people bring in dessert that somehow ties in with the art unit we’re working on (Stippling and 50/50 space). The sweets were gooood, and mostly homemade.
-Crazy science experiments.
-Stephen King. I’ve been neglecting his books for months now, but I’m so glad I’ve gotten back into reading them.
-Puffy AmiYumi. Adorable J-pop singers, whose songs are actually aimed towards a younger audience (I think). Good music nonetheless.
-Salmon.
-High-quality pencil crayons.
-Torchwood. I never realized how deep my love for this TV show was until now.
-Overwhelmingly strong air fresheners.
-Warm Pajamas.
I love.. *That picture of Audrey Kitching you have in the begining of this entry. :] *The fall air. nice, cool, crisp. *Pretty underwear! *Meeting cute people at the bar.
xoxoxo I love you!
I really honestly don’t love anything.
I’m really sorry to post this here but I know nonpariels are suppportive and I hope you guys dont mind this. My boyfriend broke up with me out of the blue last night, and I know theirs a post about writing letters and not sending them but I could find it so if its ok with everyone I’m going to post it here.
“I feel like I can hardly breathe.
Half this year, my life has been about you. Every decision I have made had directly involved you. You were the topic of my conversation and the thought that overrode all others in my head.
Today I woke up and read your message again, realising that it was real, I had lost the one boy I have ever truly cared about. I wasn’t lying the other night when I said you were more than just my boyfriend, you were my best friend, my confidant, my happiness. Then I went and had a shower, I had to put my hand to my chest just so I could make sure my heart was beating. I feel so dead. Every single thing reminds me of you, the whole of Sandgate, Shorncliffe and Redcliffe, cars, I dread going to work tomorrow, and seeing all the places we kissed, all the places that I realised how much of an amazing person you were over and over. I dread the night and I dread sleeping in the bed I bought for the two of us.
I hate myself for destroying what we had, I’m ashamed that I couldn’t control my self, I feel sick in my stomach. This is excruciating.
How stupid I must have been to believe that everything was going to be ohkay, that it was just a stupid little phase. How stupid I was to keep kissing you, even when I knew that inside you were feeling nothing. How stupid I was to ever believe that name was here could ever, ever love me.
I just can’t stop crying, and I have to hide it from my parents, I don’t know what they’ll say.
I just think of all the things that I’ll never experience, late night rides in Bella, drive in movies, petting rogue, saying hi nervously to your parents, I’ll miss saying “just a lilbit” and having someone understand my lame jokes and our apartment with the high ceiling and wall of glass, you know deep down I sort of dreamt that would come true.
I gave you everything and I’ll never regret it, I’ve meant everything I’ve said and you truly are a perfect human being and I’m honoured to have shared things I haven’t with anybody else.
I’ll miss you so much, I wish you could understand how much, but you never will because this is just a letter I’ll never send. “
I really needed to get this off my chest. Thanks.
Gala you’re living my Paris dream right now! I’m taking French as a minor at University and I did it all the way through high school to prepare myself for when I hopefully might live there!
and J – Sorry to hear that you’re hurting, a boy I thought I really loved broke up with me a few years ago (we’d been together 7 months). He dumped me over MSN because he was gutless and a coward, and even though I couldn’t see it at the time, I was better off for it. Hang in there love.
have you seen the dress named after you yet?
I looked but couldn’t find it.
Mine:
Good Days at Work: I usually hate my job; I’m thankful for it, but it’s not for me. But today was pretty good.
Pay Day: ‘Nuff said
Opportunity: My boyfriend got accepted into the NAVY, so we’re set for the next 6 years, but he’ll be leaving for a while in december
Open relationships: aaaaannnnnndddd while he’s gone, I have full permission to sample the fruits of manhattan!
I love…playing over the top games with my boy on the bus, adopting irish and scottish accents, to make everyone laugh! ‘Hi, me name’s Tom, an’ I’ve just come en from Dub-len…’ haha!; finally getting thourgh a fairly tough week of never ending assignments and tests; my friend becoming an uncle for the first time! aww; my new stripy Petit Bateau breton tee worn with tight faded drainpipes; trying to channel some quirky Ingénue influence in my life; my dad’s big bear hugs; the lovely warmy weather; dreaming about my trip to London, Scotland and Paris in april; reading anais nin; ribena-lime-and soda drinks; the duchess (love keira); not ebing able to stop humming Quelqu’un m’a dit (carla bruni, and so very lovely she is); new Chloé shoes, so very lucky I am!; singing karoke in a little japanese dive bar with my best friend – we were truly awful, but had lots of fun!; people commenting on my ‘sweet rosy cheeks’ (on my face!), or my dimple (only one, but I like it nonetheless); the wonderous idea of walking through an abandoned beach in goa, with only a turtle and him for company…
Ooh! I am so amazingly jealous of your Paris trip!
Anyway. This week, I love:
-Buying two ridiculously pink nailpolishes and a pair of earrings for a total of five dollars (okay, the earrings aren’t great quality, but they’re blissfully kitsch).
-Actually getting all my homework done. Yay study break.
-My friend Cassie, who is completely crazy and lovely.
-Iced coffee.
-The weather warming up.
Huzzah!
xx
Gala,
Great to hear from you and glad you are in France safe and sound. I had been wondering where you were. Today I love:
Seattle.
My friends.
My family.
The East Coast.
My solitude and the fact that I am a little quirky.
My motivation.
My life.
See you soon.
oh man, i’m so jealous that you’re in paris! can’t wait to hear more about it (and see more photos!)
my list is here:
gemmabear.wordpress.com/2008/1…
Oh my! It’s already Saturday my time, but I’ll post a list anyway…
The concept of spiked milkshakes in our campus late-night diner. My friends and I decided we should sneak a bottle of… something… into said dinner, order milkshakes, and spike them. Sadly, this was slightly less than successful, due to the fact that all we had was rum, and rum+chocolate shake is just plain weird.
Said friends are quite awesome by the way. Drinking in the green room of the campus theater? Spiked milkshakes? Good stuff.
The Jezebel debate liveblog of which I was an active participant. Very fun experience.
Plans with my former roomie to go shopping in Boston tomorrow. We’re taking the commuter rail a little after noon, and coming back in time for her to go out to dinner with her boy.
The High Holidays mean I’m spending a lot of time at services right now, but it’s good time. I’m getting in more reflection, I’d say, and that’s always good. Plus I really enjoy the spending time with the group of people I go to services with. Yom Kippur is next Thursday, so I likely will not be posting my TiLT until after I break the fast!
Wow, all of your Paris talk really made me want to move back to Paris. I spent all of last winter there and I absolutely loved it.
And I can only agree, Orangina is amazing!
Hey Gala!
It’s Betsy. You’re plane friend. This is the first time I have been online since I got to France. Love the magazine. Keep in touch!
I wish I was like you. I’ve never really been on an adventure but it seems like you go on one every other day. I think I’m afraid that when I go it wouldn’t be what I imagined or read about. Maybe someday. Anyway, I think your very cool and I hope your having fun in Paris.
Hi there,
I read your livejournal, and finally started reading iCiNG as well, so this is my first time commenting here.
I just wanted to mention that I also love travelling alone. I like long plane rides and long waits in airports, eating food that’s bad for you, and especially the people-watching. Most people in airports are either going to or returning from exciting places and interesting experiences. I’ve had lots of airplane and airport buddies over the year, and I think it’s a great way to travel! :)
Oh, my bad.
I’m your “plane friend”.
It’s terrible when you mix the excitement of being online, for the first time in days, with American TV, dubbed in French, and a bunch of people having apéro with Asian food. I forgot to reread my post…but I swear I know the difference between “you’re” and “your”. Ha ha. But enough with my excuses…
I will not be able to come to Paris before you leave. I still have to organize and such. But, seriously, if you come back to the area, you are more than welcome to crash at my place and check out my cute little French town!
Bisous,
Betsy
Hey Gala
i love travelling alone to (same way) i love it because like you said you go at your own pace, you get to do what you want to make your flight that much more enjoyable.
i’m glad i’ve found someone else like moi!
and obv its always good to have someone waiting on the other side to hang with in your new destination :)
have fun in paris!
PART TWO!
The Future Me: I decided that by this time next year, I want some things done. I made a list of them and sent myself an email through www.futureme.org/.. I’ll get it 10/05/2009. It’ll either be a really depressing day or a huge pick me up. I look forward to it.
Im thinking about using it for reminders and random short terms to-dos also.
I’ve had a bit of a rough week, but good things have come out of it regardless!
I’m loving:
-manga comics
-designing new tattoos
-taking a break from technology
-passing my biology assignment! :)
-dressing up as a doll
-Malice Mizer! Especially Mana
-MASH-ive gone through 5 seasons in a week!
And of course, iCiNG!
