People moving to my city! I just realised that three of my friends from Wellington are moving to Melbourne within the next 6 months! How incredible is that?! Needless to say, I am pretty stoked about it. I guess I’m going to have to stick around here a bit longer then, huh?!
Finding elusive things — I managed to procure some Red Vines for my boyfriend last night, which was a major triumph because in Australia, I can only ever find Twizzlers. (He insists there’s a difference — to me they both just taste like red wax, but hey!) It was exciting. Feel my excitement!
Healing — It’s fantastic to hear that anyone is getting better, but this week I’m thinking especially about my sweet friend Lisa, in the middle of the mosaic. Not only is she beautiful, but she knows how to help herself, & I couldn’t be more delighted for her!
Booking my Christmas holiday! I am so overjoyed that I can really only say this: $%&*%&^$%)^!!! We’re going to stay in a lovely place, chill out & enjoy our double-shower & jacuzzi. I am daydreaming about beauty & relaxation treatments. I can’t think of anything better. Last Christmas we watched The Day After Tomorrow while watching SNOWFLAKES fall past the window. In the middle of summer. Fear!
Big packages in the mail — My sweet dolly Leigh from Cosmopolitan spoils me rotten! Yesterday I received a heart-shaped box full of lovely things: lipstick, nailpolish, false eyelashes, eyeshadow & lots of glitter! If she didn’t live so far away, I’d give her a big smooch!
Caesar salad — Bonified obsession. I would even go so far as to consider it as a legitimate food of the gods. Beware those who try to get between me & my croutons! (Mmmmm…)
Trying weird face treatments — I just did a “mini-facelift“ in a bottle & my face looks like it has been ironed! It was not unlike smearing egg white on my skin (which would probably be less expensive). Fun but strange!
Hot donuts dusted with sugar & served with a pot of warm chocolate — My donut-scarfing place of choice is San Churro. It is far, far too good. Yum.
Obtaining new music — My current favourites are Jimi Hendrix, Coldcut, The Cinematic Orchestra & Arcade Fire. I start to go nuts after listening to the same music for too long, so new music is always a grand adventure for me!
Shuffling around in my kimono — & generally being an old lady. I like to bundle up in it with lots of bangles, put my hair in a haphazard chignon (the best kind), drink coffee & write. Definitely a great way to spend the day.
Honourable mentions: People who colour their dog’s hair (pink poodles, eeeee!); my new Moleskine for 2008 (it’s still wrapped in plastic & winking at me!); energy drinks (powering the iCiNG Bowl since 2006!); “clean” dressing (by which I mean pieces in one-colour with no logos or madness on the front); silly but fun tasks (I am going to learn how to fold origami cranes!); procellous weather (& the word procellous); doing my dream job every single day & interacting with all of you AMAZING people! You make iCiNG what it is, truly! Huge kisses to ALL of you!

i actually have a GREAT CEASER SALAD RECIPE that my mother swears by; when i first moved up to Chicago, that recipe, plus chicken and spinach sausages and scampi-style pasta is one of the meals i cooked for my boyf (i love cooking), so i’m going to let you on to the suero de falla family recipe:
1 egg yoke
1 half lemon
1 clove garlic
grey poupon
worchester sauce
salt
pepper
olive oil
parmesan cheese
romaine lettuce
- in large (preferably wooden) bowl, drop egg yolk and sprinkle with lemon juice (the lemon juice naturally cooks the egg, so salmonella isn’t a worry). add smashed garlic clove, grey poupon (dollop), worchester (two swishes or so), a dash of salt, a dash of pepper, whisk. taste. slowly drizzle olive oil, tasting as you whisk it in (too much will dilute it terribly and it will taste hellish and oily). add more of the above ingredients according to your preferred taste (i’m all about the garlic so sometimes i’ll add an extra clove, and my mom is all about the lemon so we have mighty sour ceasers often). add romaine lettuce, toss, add parmesan, serve.
another great idea, which i attribute entirely to my mom’s kitchen ingenuity, is to get a pack of those mini cheese raviolis, thaw them, and fry them up in olive oil (or veggie oil, if you prefer), use a paper towel to dab off them excess oil and toss them into your salad as an alternative to croutons (you will die and go to heaven, swear on my life)
anywho, things i love this week:
-homemade strawberry cupcakes with neon green and blue cream cheese icing
-covert cider drinking in celtic bars on halloween, and the free candy that halloween entails
-guitar hero III
-the brand new Leopard for Mac! i am lucky enough to have a gorgeous boyfriend who’s enough of a nerd to show up at the apple store the moment is premiered and now i am the owner of a limited edition Leopard t-shirt. rawk.
-gorgeous nerdy boyfriends who speak odd european languages. le sigh.
-dia de los muerto! i am cooking quesadillas and treats of all sorts tonight, i swear it.
love and all and i hope my recipe comes in handy! cheers!

your friend Lisa reminds me of an edgier Molly Ringwald a la the movie Pretty in Pink. :D
I forgot to mencion the most amazing machine ever: the epilator. My mom bought a new one that almost don’t hurt! The fact that you buy one for a bit more that ONE wax-depilatory session, and you can use it for ever, is amazing. I love epilators
I want your friend Lisa’s hairstyle, dammit! (dammit, because I know that I’m too damned cheap to spend enough money to be sure that the cut will be done properly and unless it is, choppy cuts just end up looking like nothing….need to cultivate friendships with hairdressers…)
oh my god i love making paper cranes… my desk at work is covered in mini highlighter coloured post-it note cranes from when i get bored… you should look up ‘origami jumping frogs’ that jump when you press down on their tail… origami – the ulimate in procrastination!

:)
I just wanted to say I love all the photos on icing, they’re gorgeous!! I found icing through Cosmopolitan, I decided the site was worth visiting because you liked the Disney castle ring I have been coveting forever! The site is awesome, you should be v proud of yourself!
It’s not even Thursday anymore, but I’ll tell you anyway…eating fruit salad and listening to Explosive by Bond, with a secret smile hidden in the corner of my mouth – I have a new and exciting crush.
Hm. Learning origami, sour peach hearts from Chinatown candy stores, drinking coffee and listening to Ani DiFranco, The Radio Dept. and Sufjan Stevens, discovering my mother’s retro clothing, new ideas, blissful indecision, painting, drawing, and dancing around my living room.

Because of Things I love Thursday and other things (the desire to have more joy, appreciation and hapiness in my life!) I have a thankfulness thread on a messageboard of my friends. She giggled when I said “I am thankful for reminders to be thankful” but it is true! Thanks for your weekly reminder to be thankful for things gala! PS I decided every day in November will be represented in a picture mosaic the way you do these thursday things not necessarily pictures i TAKE (though they can be) for example november 1st will be a picture of a chocolate cake, i forgot to take a picture of the one I baked but I’m sure I can find one similar. Its going to be a monthly highlight of my daily joys!!! – hearts Kay
just this month i made my own flock of neon patterned cranes and hung them above my work area. i should send you pictures, because you would love the papers i used. it gives my space a lot more dimension, kind of like your clotheslines of pretty pictures.
today i am loving feeling like a “me” instead of a “we” (hooray for alone time and solo adventures!), organic milk (tastes so much better), + reliving the 90s through listening to aqua and la bouche
Pink poodles? Please say you are not serious. :(
