Things I Love Thursday!

Photo key: 1, 2, 3, 4.

Yes, it’s that time again! Time for Things I Luuuuuuurve Thursday! Ready… go!

<3 Susie Bubble’s piece on Matt. This guy is amazing & the way he dresses is totally inspiring. He looks incredible. I have never wanted to be a boy before, but Matt almost pushes me over the edge!

<3 Walking out onto the balcony in the morning & stretching. I also like to think I am giving back to the community by doing it in my underwear. Surely it makes some accountant somewhere rather happy! Haha!

<3 My make-up classes. Seriously, I love them so much. Our last two classes are next week & I’m actually really bummed about it. I feel like I have learned so much (I will write up some stuff for you soon!) & I want to keep learning! Not to mention, my teacher is totally amazing — like a glamorous version of Lauryn Hill, with an Australian/British/Canadian accent. She is inspiring just standing there. She has presence, you know? It is great just to be around.

Make-up experiments a go-go!

<3 Waking up with a song in my head & then making it the first thing I hear when I fire up iTunes. Oh technology, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways!

<3 Gossip Girl, again. If you haven’t seen any of the series, use the internet (& your noggin) to get your fix. You won’t regret it! It is so great. My friend Allan called me yesterday & we just ended up talking about the show… I was squealing so loudly my boyfriend came out to check I wasn’t being murdered!

<3 Making plans. I am a major plan maker in general, but it’s all in overdrive at the moment because of this book I’m reading (which I am going to review for you soon, so never fear!). I am about to make some big adjustments to my lifestyle & I am really really excited about it. They’re not going to be “new year’s resolutions” because really, if you don’t want to start now, you never will. I am starting SOON! YAY!

<3 Saturday! Why? Because my make-up teacher has asked me to help her do make-up backstage at a fashion show… I am gobsmacked & enthralled. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! I will let you know how it goes. Audrey is going to come & take pictures!

<3 Covering a blister with a blue band-aid which is decorated with little ambulances, teeth & crosses. If you’re going to heal, you might as well do it in style!

<3 Honourable mentions: Tupac Shakur (sexiest voice in hip-hop? I’m not quite sure. It’s probably a tie between him & Ludacris.); vegetarian hot dogs & fake bacon; Chevy Chase (I LOVE him); Madonna (“Get Together” may be the best song in the history of the world); talking to my parents on the phone; stumbling into little arcades & finding amazing shops; making photobooth plans; dancing around the living room ecstatically; speaking in my own language of squeaks & mumbles, especially when I’m sleepy; earring shopping (my new mania!); visualising the life I want & feeling it come closer; every nonpareil ever — P.S., this means you!.

“The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.” — Friedrich Nietzsche

Okay, your turn! I love the way some of you save up thoughts all week to spill on a Thursday, it makes me totally gleeful! I recommend putting on some high-energy music while you write your list, it makes it even more fun! GO! Regale us!

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  11. Burt’s Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser I’m officially addicted to this stuff. It smells so delicious I can hardly keep from eating it, and it makes my skin so nice/glowy!

Holiday shopping Fun fun fun! It’s the best feeling when you get someone the perfect present.

Sweaters I bought the most gorgeous teal sweater coat today. Mmm.

Costa Rica I suppose saying I love Costa Rica is premature, since I’m going there in two weeks, but the anticipation is just delicious.

Wednesday Night TV Gossip Girl and Project Runway!

  18. Thank you much! I’m in the states so this is a thing i love wednesday.

I’ll bring my list of things i love tomorrow.

    <3 alicia · Dec 6, 02:55 PM · #
  19. -The beautiful reupholstered antique chair my parents got me for my birthday, which was today (by which I mean Wednesday: here it is only half one and I have not gone to bed yet, so that’s what I mean).

-My little brother getting me a book and getting me a card and drawing the cover of the book in the card and making a fuss of me all day and talking books and family with me at half eleven tonight when he was in bed and should have been asleep (he’s 9).

-The cake Mam and little bro made me secretly and that Dad put cream and dragées on to spell HAPPY 16th RUTH.

-The shepherd’s pie Mam made for dinner on my request with RUTH on it in peppercorns. Spotting a theme?

    -All my lovely friends.

-My job! I don’t work very much because I am in full-time edumification, but across the road from us in our new town is a tiny independent shop that does books, music, art and coffee and when the owners aren’t free to work they get me in and I hang out with music, books, cake and chocolate and get PAID.

    -Breakfast on Pluto.

    -My laptop and the internet.

-Babysitting. Especially when the children are wonderful.

-My birthday party this weekend! Oh, so much to do… Gala I’d totally have bought your ebook if I could, but I don’t have Paypal, or anything, and I think my parents, who are very non-fascist really so I don’t want you to get the wrong idea, might think it was a silly waste of money if I explained it to them, because I’m (hopefully!) on track to have a nice party anyway.

-Talking on the phone to my two lovely big cousins (as in big sister, not as in humungous sixteen-tonne cousins) in England, both of whom I talked to on the phone today.

-My beautiful half-wool red scarf I got in the gift shop of the Hunt Museum today with some birthday money.

-A Winter’s Tale which I have just started to read. I intend to learn one of Hermione’s speeches, which my dad recommended to me.

-Latin which I have just started studying again!

    -Thin Lizzy.

-Making new friends on the bus like I did last Sunday! It was so cool! Four of us just got talking in the bus station and then talked for three hours on the bus, and exchanged details.

-My collection of pretty flowery china cups and saucers which is delightful and currently comprises ten sauces and thirteen cups and is growing. I get it from the charity shop in town every time I go there. It’s silly and will collect dust, but I don’t do this kind of thing very often, and it is SO pretty, plus I can have afternoon tea parties with it and in the summer package it carefully and bring it on picnics…

-My bed. I’m going there now, it’s thirteen to two and I have a lot to do tomorrow. I’m sorry for bunging up the comments with my humungous dissertation on all the things I love…

    <3 Roo · Dec 6, 02:56 PM · #

  33. I got lots of things to love this weeks. It seems like I’ve got an ‘old’ theme going on:

    — Retro fashion styles. Its like Ive been sporting a diffrent decade every day this week: 40s, 50s, 60s, 80s, late 1800s, I could never settle in one time period…
    — Admiring my mothers deppression glassware collection and having her tell me about each peice with uber pride that I care.
STARTING A HOPE CHEST!! A hope chest was originally what a girl started when she was ‘marrying age’, that she would fill with linens, kitchen things, and family momentos to become her ‘dowry’ to her husband. Yeah… mines going to be a collection of stuff that I’ll have when I move into my first apartment. I’m hoping ‘santa’ will get me the actual chest…
OLD LADIES! Especially my favorite old ladies who I eat with on wednesdays (and their constant chatter about sex, how distrustful men are, and their plans to start an old-lady gang to terrorize ‘young scoundrals’, they are so fun!) Ms Emily, this old spunky lady whose daddy was in the mafia, wrote me up some irish recipes to put in my hope chest! And I got another old sweater from one of them. YAY! (they spoil me.)
    — My cousin Kara, whose such a great friend, and whose going with me to see the Spice Girls in concert this weekend (and they’ll all be there! Last time I saw them Ginger Spice was missing!).

    - Knowing I could come up with well over twenty more things to list. I think I might just die of happiness this week.

  34. <3 Serena van der Woodsen. Blake Lively’s gorgeous, and the character is completely endearing.

  36. -Being obsessed with making christmasy foods that you only eat at christmas like white christmas + ginger bread cookies to hang on my tree
-The Dorothy (from the wizard of oz) costume that I made for a party…I am so proud I made it all by myself.
-In genral making clothes out of recyled fabrics, I think I am going to start selling them on ebay or in a market to make money, instead of getting a ‘real’ job, which I don’t do very well at.
-Learning to surf. I’ve always wanted to learn to surf, I just never attempted it till now. I don’t even notice that its excercise because its too much fun.

    * dressing models for the graduate fashion show at my uni. I didn’t even know any of the 4th years, but by the end of the night I was cheering and crying and celebrating with them just cause I’m like that. seriously, I cry with pride whenever anyone graduates in a movie.

*darling harbour at night- there’s a huge ferris wheel there at the moment with lights all over it and they’ve put the christmas tree up (although it’s very modern and ugly) * they way they’ve done up central station for christmas, it almost looks like a european train station!

*having a sucky boring mindless job but having a wonderful boyfriend to come home to every day

    *subway cookies!

    * amazingly authentic chicken satays from the indonesian restaurant downstairs which remind me of my childhood in indonesia

    * planning our trip to europe for next year!

  46. White chocolate chip cookies – Soft, sugary, crumbly & oh-so delicious!

Babies – My friend just gave birth a few weeks ago and I’m going to visit her this morning to finally see the little darling!

Wearing super high wedges, slightly laddered tights & an oversize dress – Olsen style! My new favourite lazy day look.

Energy highs – Getting that giddy feeling in the early afternoon, singing along to my favourite tunes while I work, and feeling amazing that I’m being productive & getting things done! (Probably just on a caffeine high, but, you know, whatever works!)

Russian boys – And why, exactly? Because I met one on Friday night & we’re going for a coffee sometime soon. Eee!

    Much love to all!

  47. I’m a little early since it’s not quite Thursday here on the west coast…oh well :)

Arizona Iced Tea with Raspberry Flavor. Oh my, it certainly has proven to be heaven in a cup. It’s all I’ve been drinking lately (besides my usual coffee in the morning & water throughout the day).

Having zombie movie marathons with some of my friends whose minds are equally as twisted as mine. We all cheer and laugh when someone dies, and we cheer and laugh multiplied by two when someone dies by getting their guts ripped out and eaten :)
Also, on the topic of movies. Watching a movie several times, and never getting sick of it. The past five days, I’ve watched V for Vendetta four times. It’s so thought-provoking and interesting, so I never seem to get tired of re-watching it.

Reading 5 books at a time & highlighting every single thing that I find interesting that I read.

That’s pretty much it. It’s been such a ho-hum week, full of routine and patterns! I need to spice it up a bit.

I love my boyfriend for traipsing around viewing apartment shares with me (for me, not us, so it’s not like he has to).

I love the gym I just joined, it has two pools and is nicely tricked out with jacuzzis and such (is that the plural of jacuzzi?)

And I love cookies. Mmmmm, cookies….

I love coming to Icing and being inspired by Gala. And reading all the posts from Icing readers and realising that I have so much in common with so many different people (I read the posts for T.I.L.T and squeal outloud “OOH ME TOO” hahaha, shame!)

I haven’t had much time to indulge in Gala-goodness of late… Running my own business has been all consuming... But I still sneak a peak everyday and that is what I am thankful for this Thursday.

  63. This week there are a lot of things I love.

    * My new leather gratitude journal. I enjoy spending the beginning and end of my days thanking all the good in my life. (there is a lot of it)

*Apocalyptica- My boyfriend is really into metal and after 3 years of dating and hating the stuff, it finally got to me. This band in particular, the instrumentals are beautiful.

*My long hair- It’s finally past that awkward shoulder length stage and not hangs just below. Sometimes it even curls at the ends, which makes me very happy.

*My mum- She is coming to visit me this week for a week. We plan to have a huge early x mas shopping spree and to eat out a whole lot.

*sit ups- I love doing them and how they make me feel. I can do 50 right now.

    *Twitter – (ivelostmystar) I’m addicted

+the time I get to read on the train each day…two whole hours. All snuggly in my winter coat and hat. (makes me snooze sometimes too!)

    +new Amy Butler patterns
+my brother sending me funny text messages so I’m giggling at work.
+emailing with my Mom every day.

  74. ♥ Coming in to land at Edinburgh Airport at night and seeing the lights of the city. Indescribably beautiful.
♥ Support and encouragement from dear ones.
♥ The joys of a giant mound of whipped cream atop deep, dark, smooth hot chocolate.
♥ Visiting Cambridge and being moved almost to tears by the beauty of it.
♥ My two beautiful botanical art postcards, snapped up from the museum shop!
♥ Taking my first ever daily outfit photo and posting it in wardrobe_remix- and actually feeling pretty and well-dressed in that outfit when I wore it.
♥ Photos from Geliebt (de Profundis). Ethereal, quirky, delicate, adorable.
♥ My wonderful, amazing, incredible parents.

To read this: “every nonpareil ever — P.S., this means you!.” put a smile on my face. Plus, this quote:

  76. What I Love Today!!!

♥ hoop earrings – I love them~hahaI’ve begun to wear them lately and I cannot tell you how many compliments I have received—both from friends and complete strangers. They tell me I should wear them more often – and I don’t think that’ll be a problem ;)

♥ mehmeturgut photography – on deviantart.com—another website I am rather obsessed with—this guy is completely insane. You guys should check out his stuff. To me it’s a combination of insanity and reflection. He has this expressive eye. It’s really beautiful. Here you go: http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/

♥ singing random kids’ songs – allow me to explain > lately I have been breaking out in random songs from Willy Wonka and Winnie the Pooh, etc. and people stop and go “hey I remember that song!” It’s refreshing to know that as we age and our world’s change around us, that something as simple as “Oh I’m just a little black rain-cloud” can make people smile.

♥ the dictionary – what can I say? I am a complete nutcase that reads the dictionary and thesaurus for fun. I learn words for fun. I think this is why everyday people don’t know what I am saying half the time cause I use all the words.

♥ bakery – today was my first day working in the bakery at the grocery store where I am employed. I have been a cashier for the past 5 months and figured it was time for a change. I loved it – I must say I ate a lot of “samples” >.<

♥ cinnamon butter – sounded gross at first, then I tired it, and now I am addicted. We “sampled” a bunch of bread with it today…haha…

♥ Saturday – I know I copied you but I am excited about Saturday too! I havnt seen my birth-mother in over three months and this evening we finally made plans for me to go over to her house. I cannot wait to see my brothers > they are getting so old now > Ryan is 13 and Jordan is 10. ugh. Craziness.

♥ Bryan – My boyfriend. I am head-over-heels. It’s kind of unhealthy. Hahah just kidding I love him and am relieved I finally stopped attempting to date scum ;)

ANTM – I love this show!!!! I havn’t been able to watch it in a while—I used to watch it religiously—due to unfortunate amounts of homework and dance and other arbitrary things. But last night I watched it and I missed it for a reason hard but wonderful language.

    thanks for reading if you did >.< xoxo~luv~xoxo -aLeX <3 Alexandra · Dec 7, 04:10 PM · #
  77. + Watching movies with my Mom at night.

+ Helping my sister with her math homework.

+ Finally taking a step toward my (possible) future. While it hasn’t actually made my decision, it should definitely help.

+ Believing that I can do anything I want to!

+ The Sci-Fi Original Miniseries “Tin Man.” – I love the re-telling of fairy tales, and this is a different take on The Wizard of Oz. I think it’s pretty swell.

    + Interior design.

  78. lemon-lavendar sugar cookies fresh out of the oven! pulling out the CDs of carols! a pot of tea for four! embroidery!

Okay, Gala, seriously, can’t wait to see some of what you’ve learned from your makeup classes! Tell me – what do you do if the inside corners of your eyes aren’t visible? Mine are hidden by a little fold. You’d never notice unless you tried, oh, say, to line the inner corners with a silver or white pencil… =) My solution is just to “do nothing!” but I’m curious if this is more common than I realize and if there are any fab tricks for it.
