Things I Love Thursday!

<3 Apricots — Yum! When I was a child, we used to drive from Dunedin to Wanaka in Summer (Dunedin was where my grandparents lived & Wanaka was where they had a holiday house). On the way we would inevitably stop at some of the fruit sellers along the way to buy fresh apricots or big bags of black cherries, the latter of which we would delightfully chomp & spit out the seeds. I don’t know whether we actually sent them sailing out of the windows or whether I am just imagining it, but anyway. So apricots have a good association for me, but there aren’t many around at the moment. Hallelujah! They sell them in cans at the supermarket! Not the most natural form, I admit, but they are still delicious (especially in a smoothie with some maca powder, hazelnuts & chocolate soy ice-cream)!

<3 Atmosphere — I think I said this kind of recently, but I still do! Their ‘Paint It Gold‘ show is hilarious & awesome. I sent them a question yesterday, I really hope they answer it!

<3 Wasabi peas! I had never had ANY wasabi at all until I tried wasabi peas at an engagement party on Saturday. Instant love affair! I hoarded the bowl & ate so many! On our way home, we stopped off at the supermarket & bought two packets. I have been munching on them pretty steadily, though the other day I put four in my mouth at once (absentmindedly I think) & felt like I was having a stroke, so I haven’t had many since then! Haha!

<3 Adventures at the Asian superette! Sometimes (okay, often), at night, I get restless & want to go on an adventure. Usually we would go out for dessert or churros or something sinful, like visit the 24-hour Krispy Kreme (dear god, no!), but since we’re trying to eat as well as possible, instead we went to an Asian superette down the road! We spent ages in there, going “Ooh!” & “Aah!”. We came home with a nice haul of weirdness, too — sesame paste, fried crispy onions, radishes in chilli & some weird chocolates in the shape of tree stumps & burgers. It was awesome.

<3 Ani DiFranco — I am on an Ani kick right now. I go through phases of loving her & then not being able to listen to her for months at a time… but right now I just can’t get enough of her.

<3 Anticipation! So many things to look forward to. Wellington = YAY! We’re going to stay with my parents in their new house, & they’re going to lend us a car so we will be able to do our own thing. (This is another reason why being with Simon is so great — I don’t have a driver’s license, I always used to have to rely on the bus to get around! Haha!) I can’t wait to see all my friends, go shopping & eat all the food I developed an affection for over an 18 year period!

<3 Honourable mentions: By this time next week I will have had my appearance at Dr Sketchy’s, eeeee! Also… Shopping (I have done quite a lot of it recently & have heaps of things to show you!); pomegranates (yes, I tried one & it was AMAZING!); the international friend-scape (it is really cool to know I have great friends in all of my favourite cities!); working out (I am back on it & I have started taking glutamine before I exercise which makes, seriously, a world of difference); crossing things off my ‘to do’ list; Elliott Smith; pyjama snuggling; the new season of The Hills starting soon (seriously, I know I shouldn’t care but all of a sudden, I do?!); 3D glasses & this picture:

How we survive is what makes us who we are.

“There is always something to be happy about. Truly happy. And if you have the audacity to find it and the courage to make it your focus, in spite of the countless temptations to dwell upon problems that don’t really exist, you will have learned well, your life will be transformed, and all things will be added unto you.” — Mike Dooley

Yes, cuties! It’s that time again! Tell me what you LOVE this Thursday! Lay it on thick! Sit there & visualise all the things making your life better, & let it build up so you get little hearts instead of pupils in your eyes & then LET LOOSE! On another note… Can we get 200 submissions? Whaddaya think?!

  4. Oh I know what you’re talking about Gala~! Wasabi peas are the bomb. My friend came over to my house yesterday & she stuffed 6 of them in her mouth. She started going crazy right on the couch!!! Anyways…

    * Sleeping in

    * Drinking bunches of water & eating raw!!! (from your problem skin article. I started trying these things right away cause my skin is a mess right now..)

    * Godiva Chocolate (Shock & horror! Sometimes I catch myself going upstairs once a week & eyeing a chocolate from my precious stash, but luckily I usually catch myself in time.)

    * Spring Break ( that means more time for sleeping, drinking water, & resisting chocolate!)

P.S ‘how we survive is what makes us who we are’ Are Rise Against lyrics. They are really amazing Gala you should check them out.

  6. Ha! Apricots and cherries! The rellies-in-the-South-Island tradition for us North Islanders.

    Happiness:

Musicovery! I am completely loving it and I must thank you for the tip, Miss Gala!

Pennyroyal – it grows wild it my lawn and it just smells fantastic, like perfume.

SYTYCDAU (So You Think You Can Dance Australia) – this show rocks my world! I record it and watch my fave routines over and over and over and over. In NZ we get it 5 days behind, so we get Sunday’s show on Friday, and I always look up on the website to see who gets sent home (this behaviour horrifies everyone I know except me). My fave couples are Kate&Graeme, Henry&Vanessa, Rhys&Jemma. I have a little crush on Rhys – I fantasise about you tracking him down, Gala, and interviewing him for iCiNG!

Easter – leaving at 4am or something tomorrow morning to drive for 5 hours, and spend 5 glorious days in the unspoilt North. Yayyy!

Getting up early and it being cool enough for me to put on my snuggly vintage Surf Club hoodie.

And every Thursday is dancing day :D

  9. TiLT:
    1. Getting into college
    2. The Beatles, Carly Simon, Taylor Swift, and Billy Joel
    3. Anthropologie
    4. Mangos, strawberries that don’t have worms in them, and apple rings
    5. Family and friends (I could put this every week)
    6. Rainy days that give me a chance to use my adorable umbrella
    7. Zoolander
    8. Easter
    9. Time to write in my journal, work out, watch crappy TV, and try on $12,000 dresses at Saks
    10. Life in general

    <3 Anastasia · Mar 19, 06:54 PM · #
  10. - Looking at my ring finger and seeing an engagement ring AND a wedding ring! Despite being married for little over 2 months, this has only just sunk in – I am really, honest to goodness, truly married. Awesome-ness.

    - Drinking lots of water. This is something I’ve really neglected for the past little while, and have made a huge effort this week to keep my water bottle full – my skin is looking and feeling so much better. Plus I get to run to the bathroom constantly at work, which gets me away from staring non-stop at my computer screen.

    - Long travel emails from friends. One of my bestest friends is travelling at the moment all through South America, and reading her emails and blog transport me to the depths of the Amazon. It really changes my outlook on my day when I think of her adventuring and having the best time of her life!

    - Growing my hair long. My hair is just about the longest its been in about 15 years! I am loving it, just having the versatility to tie it up, leave it out, straighten it! Argh, the possibilities are endless. I’m even contemplating a perm, as curly locks has always been my ultimate dream hair, but it’s always been too short to try it!

    - Making the most of the last of the warm weather. We’ve been throwing open every door and window as soon as we get home from work, reveling in the warm breeze! As much as I look forward to winter (boots and stockings, mmmm) these last few weeks of warmth just might be my favourite time of year.

    - Long weekends! No explanation necessary I should hope!

    xoxo

  11. yay my first ever post! things I’m adoring this week:

*almost being done with finals: medical school classes are tough but I’ve made it through 5 of my finals for this term… only one left and then I’m off for break!

*my trip to nyc next week for spring break! I’m planning on visiting the ps1 museum and 5 points (haha I’m such a tourist), checking out patricia field for amazing clothes, eating delicious dim sum in chinatown, ahh so many exciting things to do!

*mardarinquats, my newest supermarket discovery. a cross between a mandarin orange and a kumquat, so you can eat the whole thing (peel included!). amazing!

*my plans to buy a bright orange wig and dread it: I’ve decided that leeloo from the fifth element is my newest fashion icon. any ideas of how to incorporate the future theme into my outfits would be ever-so-appreciated.

*my housemate’s kitty! she sleeps all day curled up on my pillow and makes me feel super snuggly

*my new paper crane mobile! I made it this weekend when I took a break from studying, it was inspiried by one of the pictures from a previous TiLT. it twirls in the wind and is especially pretty.

  12. Things I love:

...High school. I’m starting to really appreciate being a high school student.

...Nifty letters. I like “snail mail.”

...No Country for Old Men. Absolutely incredible movie. I plan to read the book soon.

    ...My incredible friends. They’re amazing.

...College plans. I’m just a sophomore, but I’ve started the college hunt now. I’m so excited! It might be a little early, but hey, it never hurts to plan ahead.

...Redecorating my room. For the past few years, my room has been simply a utilitarian place to sleep, but I’ve decided to make it more “me.” I’ll be in it for two more years, so I might as well spiff it up!

    <3 Amanda · Mar 19, 07:06 PM · #
  13. Ooh! Wasabi peas, yes!
I’ve challenged myself to do “gratitude tasks” this week, so this should be easy:

** My brand new red wig ** Visiting friends ** Airconditioned trains during off-peak hours ** chai tea frappucinos (but I must give them up!) ** watching TV on the internet ** buying a $3.05 bra from Target that fits excellently (go to the city target, guys!) ** a huge bag of fresh cherry tomatoes from a friend with a farm ** Haruki Murakami novels ** housesitting plans with my best friend ** learning Chinese at Uni and being able to say things!

    Wo ai Gala!

  14. I haven’t participated in TiLT in what feels like forever! Thank God I’m doing it now, it’s always such a good feeling.

    * Panic At the Disco’s new record! * making travel plans with “internet friends”! I am so excited to “meet” the people I’ve gotten so close with! * buying my first pair of shorts since before high school! (it’s scary, but I think it’s going to be worth it…) * making new friends!

  23. x The long weekend – BRING. IT. ON.

x The fruit shop near my office with all of its wonderful treats! They make the best low-fat yoghurt, salads, smoothies and fruit goodies – I have recently fallen head over heels with their low-fat rice pudding and mixed nut concoction – absolutely divine.

x My new fragrance diffuser, which I bought for my bedroom – it is Cocoa & Vanilla scented and it is heavenly! My room smells like marshmallows.. I’m in love!

x Plans to buy a gorgeous journal to carry around with me so that I can jot down notes and anything that inspires me :) If I can find one with cupcakes, shoes or anything sparkly on it, even better!

x Seeing the potential – I bought a necklace recently from a second-hand store (read: cheap!) with the most gorgeous pendant on it – pity it was attached to the most horrendous wooden bead-y chain! I knew it truly was a treasure though, so I bought it and just removed it from its chain and instead placed it on a silver chain – it looks stunning and it is my new favourite piece.

  24. I’ve been feeling the TILT love all week!

    - Constant Energy – I had a little op done two months ago and have finally gotten all of my energy back! It feels so amazing to breathe clearly and have no allergies! eeek! I feel like a new girl!

    - Training – I signed myself up for the Mothers Day Classic and have starting my training, slowly but surely! it’s eight weeks away and I can’t wait to see how much I can improve each week! plus raise oodles of money for Breast Cancer Research!

    - Efficiency – I’ve been playing around with a few strategies this week to get myself more organised, focussed and productive. I am totally amazed at how much such little changes affected my motivation levels and energy. Wow! I’ve achieved a lot more than usual, and had more time to do things that I love!

    - My Boy – I fell in love with my boyfriend again! After three and a half crazy years together he still amazes me! J is so silly and cute one minute, and so professional and talented the next! not a bad combo…

    - Easter – Now that the heat wave is over I am so excited about the long weekend! I’m baking Lindt Chocolate Easter cupcakes today for my gorgeous friends and planning an elaborate egg hunt for J!

Also: trashy radio, arguments that bring families closer together, working on my nervous driving, lots of green tea & water, red delicious apples, pretending it’s cold enough for porridge, ordering exciting raw ingredients online for kitchen experimenting…

    xxx

  37. Well, I wasn’t feeling up to writing TiLT (ate too much chocolate) but seeing how you’re trying to get to 200 you motivated me write (I love that).

    * More weddings, my boyfriends brother is getting married in Otari Wilton bush on Sunday and I bought my first dress (since I was 12 or something) to wear to it. It’s so exciting to wear a dress

    * Trying to think of a new pen name, something I can use for all my user names, and for an internet domain. My current one is an abbreviation of a name I ripped off from an Auckland artists character. I’m starting to feel bad about using it.
Although I’m still having trouble pinning one down.

Does anyone know what Germans call cupcakes, like really? Not just a translation or a guess?

    * 4 day weekend

    * Really cheap shoes ($30 for some heeled oxfords from #1 shoe warehouse!)

    * Finally having some good friends. I’ve been in Wellington for 5 years now but never really had anyone to do stuff with apart from my boyfriend (which is great) but now I have a small group of people that I can get together and go out to dinner with. It’s nice (and they were all lonely too after also moving from various places to Wellington).

    * Having my spidey bag key chain thing returned to me after I though I had lost him forever :]

  38. This week, I am loving…

Painted fingernails – I painted my nails for the first time in years and I am loving my hot pink fingernails right now. They look awesome!

The sense of possibility in the air – I am superstitious, so don’t want to dwell too much on this one, but I feel like great things are going to happen for me in the next couple of weeks – everything seems like it’s looking up right now :)

Issues of Vogue India – I paid a fortune for an international subscription to this, and so far it has been totally worth it. Makes me feel at home, and is a totally delicious read.

The New Yorker – One of my awesome friends gave me a subscription to this, and it has lit up my life. A masterclass in how to write well. About anything. So good.

  39. Hey Gala!

Can you please tell me about your glutamine? What do you use (brand?)

It sounds FAB and anything that gives you a little extra energy (or whatever) for exercising has to be good!

    Thank you precious!

  43. I love:
the fact that you don’t have a driver’s license! I don’t either and it’s always nice to find role models who have been successful and happy without driving. It’s hard to find them around here because this is a very vehicle-happy town. Everyone owns gigantic trucks and they try to run me and my bicycle off the road.

spring break I have time to do stuff, finally! I have been relaxing like mad and hanging out with my friends, taking lots of pictures and being happy. I made a dress this morning, too! I could never do that during a normal week!

the dress I made this morning! It’s very simple and black and uneven, but the last time I tried to make a dress was a disaster, so I’m very happy to have made this one. It makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn, if Audrey wore chopped-up t-shirts and burped a lot.

my Sims! Gawd, I love them. They keep me entertained for hours.

moving to a new town soon. whee! So sick of this place, it’s bad for me, and I am finally getting out. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

  44. - My new hair colour. I went to Wildilocks last week after a hair disaster and now it’s aqua and I’m getting so many compliments!

    - Plans for crazy weekend trips to the Gold Coast to surprise a friend

    - Working in the bar at Trades Hall for the comedy festival. I do seasonal type bar work every few months and it’s nice taking a break from my real job and seeing people and having fun and still getting paid!

    - Catching up with old friends. (I used to do stand up comedy and have heaps of friends in town for the festival – friends I only get to see at this time of the year now)

    - Dave’s boutique on Smith St. They’re moving, so books are $1 each! I came home with a very heavy backpack full of second hand books the other day.

  64. its about FRIGGING time i contribute.

Probably my favourite moment of the day was when i was using a wrachet to replace the thermostat on my car. Bebop was kind & did most of the work, and i was clambering around on the ground, grabbing dropped wrenches and the like. My love handles were hanging out of my jeans, i was dirty and i realized that i knew someone that would think i was being incredibly sexy, fixing a car. I was also over-coming my fear of cars & mechanics… It just felt good, to overcome a stressed out moment & have to sit still, watching the world whirl rims & the stench of KCF behind me. Sometimes, those gritty moments remind you that you are alive.

i also had a proud mommy moment when i picked up my puppy from the groomer & the sweet, faux-hawked groomer told me that she was the greatest dog ALL day.

    I also love:
-planning my trip to portland & seattle
-Al Green’s Best Of (especially love & happiness)
-the picnic date i had on top of a missile silo overlooking the entire los angeles area, where i drank sparkling water & gave my date a framed bloodmoth
-The upcoming Battlestar Galactica. Let my starbuck crush resume!
-My fabulous 70s tops with lots of stripes
-I took a hike about 3 minutes from my house & explored a waterfall. There’s also a bridge i couldn’t quite get under, but saw neon orange graffiti faces.
    -Hotel rendezvous. With marshmallows.
-plotting my blog. hearing wonderful things from you!

in germany we use the name cupcake as well, but its not very well known here. thats the reason why we dont have a special german name for it. it IS ein kleiner runder kuchen mit sahne oder frischkäse or ein sahnetörtchen, but nobody would say that to a cupcake.

    www.cupcakeberlin.de/
we have muffins here too, but becos they come from america we use the name muffin as well. but of corse he have a lot of other fine cakes and cookies, like apfelkuchen or apfelstrudel (applecake), käsetorte (cheesecake)and sahnetorte (creamcake) and many many more

  81. Kayla – Under The Radar is AMAZING!! __

♥♥♥♥ This week I finally went and hunted down the (http://www.riverfrontmarketwilm.com) Riverfront Market in Wilmington. There were fewer vendors than I expected, but the bulk of the floor space is taken up by an AMAZING local produce seller. I ended up carting home:
3 granny smith apples, 3 amber sweet oranges, a big tub of cantalopue chunks, 3 bananas, 2 massive zucchini, a yellow pepper 1.5 times the size of my fist, 2 shallots, 4 local white mushrooms that are larger and thicker than the palm of my hand, about 2 lbs of green seedless grapes, and about a pound of mixed salad greens. All for $19.21. Outstanding.

♥♥♥♥ ‘We ♥ Katamari’ for PS2. __ I’ve been house/dogsitting for my aunt and uncle this week, and I stumbled across this in my little cousins collection. If you haven’t played any of the Katamari games, they are feel good awesomeness! Instead of the standard blood guts and gore games, this is brightly colored, crazy-scored Japanese hillarity, involving rolling around a ball in different locations, collecting larger and larger things, until your ball can roll up people, then cars, then trees, buildings, islands, countries, on and on! +1000 points for cheering-up-factor.

♥♥♥♥ The season premiere of The Riches on FX. I kept catching random episodes last season, and I was super stoked to start watching it for real this time. Eddie Izzard. Minnie Driver. Con artists. Suspense. Hillarity. What more could you want? I mean, I need SOMETHING else to watch when I’ve seen every Law & Order episode available. >_>

♥♥♥♥ ‘Day Watch’ by Sergey Lukyanenko. Second book in the Night Watch trilogy. Set in Moscow, the story revolves around a confrontation between two opposing supernatural groups (known as “Others”): the Night Watch, an organization dedicated to policing the actions of the Dark Others — and the Day Watch, which polices the actions of the Light Others, keeping each other in check. The first book was excellent, and the second is proving just as good. Totally giving me my bizarre sci-fi fix, but with a really unexpectedly catchy plot. Check it out (but read ‘Night Watch’ first!)

♥♥♥♥ Saint Pats!!! I am one Irish-decendent lady, and I went out with the family for dinner. I countered the wailings about my not wearing any green by scarfing down a spinach wrap stuffed with lettuce, sprouts, cucumber, roasted red peppers (okay, those were red), and guacamole, and delighted our sweet tattooed waiter by drinking Midori and Grey Goose (electric green!!), since I don’t do beer. Lots of fun was had by all. My grandparents are pretty much the most amazing people ever and always make me laugh.

    Honorable mentions:
-Keeping up on drinking more water and eating more fruits and veggies!
-30 day countdown to my birthday has officially begun!!
-Making vegan cupcakes with UHHMAHZING buttercream-esque frosting. Okay, okay, not so healthy, but worth the splurge!!
-Playing with the most adorable doggies in the world for the last week while sprawling around my aunt and uncle’s GORGEOUS house on my own.
-Determination to learn to properly fold an origami crane, and then cover my room in them. Thanks a lot, Katamari. hahaha

    * Jason Castro’s version of Michelle, haha. I just watched the video about 10 times in a row. I love this song, and I love him, so it all works out nicely for me.

  88. .Red Dwarf- I am on such a kick right now. It’s on the Netflix instant browser, and it’s hilarious! I love britcoms!

.My new dress mannequin- for some reason, seeing that lady standing in my room all day gives me such inspiration to sew!

    .Flowers- Instant room-brightening!

.Frida Kahlo- Beautiful artwork by a beautiful lady.

.The Felice Brothers- Folk/Rock/Rockabilly. A band with an accordion player, whats not to love.

.Signs of Spring- Warm evenings, rain instead of snow, buds on the branches, birdies…

.Clean, soft sheets- Being a Yank, I’ve just climbed in between them. lovely.

Juggling- my teacher let me borrow his juggling clubs for spring break

Parks (big and small)- I had so much fun playing at the park today with some cousins and a nephew, despite the fact that I was in an incredible grumpy mood.

  91. - Having a full week off work and uni, in which I can relax, clean my house and get all my notes typed up neatly (basically just a full rewind and catch up on my life)

    - My new MacBook. After going about five months without a laptop (my flatmate’s cat peed on it, sigh) it’s amazing to be able to do so much again (like read my emails in bed! Hooray!).

    - That Wellington is still lovely and sunny. Today is a perfectly balmy summer day.

    - Looking forward to a night out with my best friends. I was engaged in December, but my girly engagement party has been put off until now since nobody ever had time off at the same time. It’s going to be a lot of fun, especially since I have a new little black dress to wear.

    - Planning my new tattoo. It’s going to be the Great A’Tuin from the Discworld series, because I am a major geek and proud of it.

    - Creating things. In the past few weeks, university and work have been kicking my ass and I haven’t had nearly enough time to sew. Now I have a week to work on it as much as I want to!

  93. Today:

Feeling like things are all coming together in every aspect of my life. It’s odd, and lovely.

Having a watercolour lecturer who gets excited and uses phrases like “bliss on a stick”

Getting the hell off hormonal birth control. I cannot express how happy this makes me.

Painting. I have a love-hate relationship with it. But it’s so unctuous and fluid and … I sound like Nigella Lawson. But you get the picture (hehe, a pun!). It’s also really zen sometimes.

Beautiful metallic spectator heels at something like 90% off Ebay, how I love thee, let me count the ways.

Growing my own strawberries on my postage stamp of a balcony

... This list could go on forever. It might be the lack of hormonal birth control talking, but everything seems bright and shiny right now.

    Ooh! And!
Drinking Belgian apple beer out of teacups with a gorgeous friend while flying your new kite in a park Always a win.

  94. - The movie Enchanted with Amy Adams + Patrick Dempsey. I’ve always been a sucker for a cute love story + this is all of that plus singing + dancing!

    - Spring break! It’s great to have some time off, even if I know I should be working on some homework!

    - Looking at colleges – it’s thrilling + scary at the same time, but each university presents so much opportunity.

    - video.stumbleupon.com/#p=ithct… This man really knows what life is all about + is such an inspiration. I would watch this every morning if I could.

    - Great design blogs! They’ve really helped me figure out what I want to do in life.

  101. - Agatha Christie novels = I’m rediscovering the joys of crime novels by revisiting the first one I ever read (at age 12, with a flashlight, under the covers until the wee hours of the morning), Sparkling Cyanide.

    - Being free of debt = I’ve recently paid off a house and an apartment, both of which were left to me when my parents died in late 2006, and so now I’m generating income from that, as well as being able to have a sizable amount squirrelled away for a rainy day!

    - Not having to work in a menial job that I know I’ll loathe = My friend works as a medical receptionist and wanted me to come work with her, so I went in to see what it was like today, and was very grateful I could afford to be unemployed a little longer.

    - New clothes, shoes and accessories = I managed to score myself a pair of black Mary Jane heels, black satin flats, royal blue satin flats, a royal blue cardie (courtesy of American Apparel!), hot pink leggings, a royal blue and white handbag, and a royal blue and peach plaid coat with a detachable hood. So cute!

    - Cupcakes = I am a woman possessed. I actually threw a tantrum recently because someone suggested we skip cupcakes…

The things I love this Thursday are:

    - Tea, tea and more tea! I am SO sick atm, but still cheerful despite everything, even laughing at the way I sound because I’ve lost my voice! But the tea is so helpful, and I’ve had so many different kinds.

    - Rhys from So You Think You Can Dance Australia! I totally agree with the person who commented way earlier about having a crush on him, he’s totally adorable! And such a great talent, plus, on his blogs on the official site he always leaves a style tip at the end! What a cutie!!

    - Cynthia Rowley for Avon! I just saw her new make-up range and think the design is so adorable

  116. Things I Love Thursday

Gala, we can SO make it to 200 posts!

Nails Having long nais for two weeks now! I am getting used to them and hopefully it is teacing me not to bite my nails!

Juno The movie was fantastic! I really enjoyed it. My friends all said it was a little overrated but I had never heard of it so maybe thats why I loved it so much. I think other peoples opinions ruin movies. If they say it was so fantastic (like I just did) you may expect too much.

P.S. I Love You I am reading the book before I see the movie. And I have cried on every page! It is a beautiful beautiful story.

Travelling alone I travelled to Japan by myself yesterday. It took me two days and I am damn proud. I slept in osaka airport aswell! I do not recommend sleeping in an airport with out a blanket an pillow and eye mask!

Waxing Ok, so Japanese people do not wax. So I just went four months without a wax and was so hairy it was disgusting. On the day before I left, I got a triple and feel so good right now. Now, unfortunately I’m back for a year!! Anyone know any good box waxes?

Sex and The City I went a week with out my New York Ladies recently and seriousy had withdrawals!

Have a fantastic Tursday everyone! And for those of you who read this and dont contribute, now is your chance! Stop putting it off and help us get to 200!

  132. This week has actually been so much fun! Today is the first day of my spring break, which is good, but I can’t put that up because nothing much has happened yet today. Other weekly favorites:
CHEESY PICK UP LINES made up by you and friends
Last night was my friends surprise party, so we came up with these pick ups
“Hey, do you want any cake?”
    “Sure!”
“Good, cause I’m sliced!” flex muscles here. “But you better not want any ice cream, cause I’m hot!”
Then we named our muscles. Mine are Steely Jones and Pudding Cup

    MOZART AND THE WHALE
One of the cutest, prettiest movies I’ve seen in a very long time. Sweet, with good dialogue and good acting. It made my day. Put it on your Netflix, rent it from the store, whatev. Just watch it.

    BEDSIDE BALLONS
On Valentines day, my boyfriend got me 3 red heart shaped balloons. When I got home, I put them next to my bed so I could see them wheN I woke up eveyday and they are still floating now.

    THREADLESS SALE
Threadless, my favorite online store, is having a sale. Break out the credit cards and go shopping.

Hope everyone else is having an awesome week too!

  137. First time I’m doing this, and the clocks just turned into Friday, but oh wells, tis good to be thankful anyway.

    Here goes:

*My awesome best buddy (who is flying away to another country soon, but I’m still glad to know her)

*My boy. I heart him muchly.

*My new ring that’s a massive flower ‘like art’ as the store assistant described.

*Hilariously morbid movies of high school. Specifically ‘Heathers’

*My geetar, I can sing sad songs on it.

    *The easter vacation yayyyyy

  139. I could write a huge list of things to moan about today! But since you asked so nicely…

*Blankets! Oh what would my poor toes do without you?

*Being at home for easter and knowing that I get to see my bestest friends in the next week! :D

*My plans to bake a birthday cake for my brother in a few days

*The lovely people who helped me with my heavy suitcase yesterday when i could hardly lift it onto the trains or up the stairs to change platforms. They’ve reminded me to do as many good deeds as I can when I’m out and about!

*My adorable retro fingerless mittens that were on sale

*My new black skirt and top combo – they go so, so well together and fit me better than a dress ever has. I’m almost scared to wear them in case they get damaged, but what a waste that would be!

*The stash of easter eggs I accidentally found in my mum and dads room yesterday. You’re never too old!

*My degree subject. I do, I do, I do. I need to remember this so that I don’t start to despise it because of the intimidating amount of revision I have to do over the next few weeks. I’m staying positive, it’ll be fiiine!

*The sandwich I just ate. It was awesome.

    Happy easter everyone :)

  140. Oh man… have you tried the Asian supermarket on Russell St, pretty close to where it intersects with Little Bourke? It’s my favourite that I’ve found in Melbourne so far and I LOVE Asian supermarkets! Strange and awesome foods abound! Aloe vera juice sweetened with honey being my favourite, jack fruit chips and fish shaped wafer full of icecream and red bean paste following close behind… Mmmmmmmm…

Also, Dr Sketchy’s is great! I went one time with some art school buddies of mine and we’ve often meant to go again. Maybe we’ll make it to this one.

  142. This is my first TiLT! I’m so excited!

Spring Break: I just finished about three weeks of long days with little to no sleep because of so many projects and tests to prepare for. Now I get a week and a half to just relax and catch up on my reading!

Lincoln: Of course I’m thankful for the man himself, but I’m actually talking about a book that I’m reading for school. Normally I dread required reading just because I feel like I have no choice over what I’m reading, but I really fell in love with this book. It’s basically a biography of Old Abe, but written as a novel. The style of Gore Vidal (the author) along with the personality of Abe makes me happy just thinking of reading it.

College mail: I’ve been receiving mail from colleges around my state for a while now, and though I already know that I want to go to school on the opposite coast line, it’s nice to get mail. Especially when the mail flatters you in so many different ways. Hehe!

The U.K.: Much like your NYC obsession, Gala, I have had a growing case of Anglophilia for a couple of months now. I love the history of the country and the sights and especially the music. I’ve decided that I want to visit next summer with my brother next summer, so I picked up a guide book to all of the weird places in England rather than just the typical tourist spots (but I still plan on checking them out anyway!).

Speaking French: I’ve been saving up all year to go to France this summer, and now that it’s only three months away, I’ve really tried to embrace the culture and language. This isn’t only fun for me though; my French grade has improved dramatically, too!

Concerts: Last year, I went totally overboard with going to concerts. I went to too many to really appreciate the good ones. This year, I’ve abstained, even from bands I really love, partly because all of my money was in the bank for France, and partly because I needed a break. Since I haven’t been to one in awhile, I’ve started to really miss the excitement of getting ready, and then waiting in the crowd in anticipation until you hear the opening chords of your favorite song and see the band come to life onstage. You know what they say, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”.

My iPod: I may sound crazy, but I feel totally connected to my iPod, more than just through the ears. I’ve lost count as to how many times I’ve been in a weird mood, whether happy, sad, frustrated, crazy, etc. and I pressed the shuffle button and the perfect song for my mood comes up. Maybe it’s just coincidence or maybe I’m going insane, but it makes me appreciate it even more.

Honorable mentions: green beans, feeling like I earned something, my new spring coat, my brother home for a week, going to see the Stations of the Cross in mime at my old school, designing costumes for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the dozens of new movies that are coming out this year that I’m so excited to see!

  144. * Warm weather! I just arrived in Arizona (for Spring BreaK) with my parents, where the weather is like 70+ all the time, as opposed to the 40 degree weather in New York. And on that note…

*Dressing for warm weather! Yay shorts! Yay sandals!

    * The musical CATS. Yeah, I don’t care what anyone says, I love this musical so much. I just rediscovered my love for it and I’ve been listening to selections from the soundtrack (don’t have the full one, boo!) and I watched the movie on YouTube. Meow!

*Pampering! I’m getting a haircut today, and a mani-pedi! How exciting!

  145. My boyfriend.
I know, it may sound same same, but he is what really holds me together sometimes.
Also my parents. They’ve been fantastic lately. =]

Being able to dream about what i’d like to do in life and thinking to myself, if i really put my mind to it, i COULD do it.

  146. Honey I Washed the Kids Perfume, Rock Star soap, raspberry tea, Dexter, new friends, book shipments with my new FLB books (it’s an addiction!), the way that old movie stars talk in old films, Alison Lohman, The L Word spoilers (bad me), Pink Martini, The Moody Blues show I saw last weekend, The Long Blondes show I will be seeing in June, new albums leaking that I’ve been anticipating for quite a while, knit berets, Jovovich Hawk, berry lipstick, writing letters, journaling, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, love and support from my two best friends, drinking a bottle of champagne over a book and then calling a friend and talking for hours, how good and how bad a cigarette feels to smoke, the stacks I have neatly put my books into, taking inventory of my clothes, flirting, cuddling with my cat Louie, and clearing the area of all visual and aural distractions and then singing.

*It’s thursday- which means the weekend is upon us:)

  156. Scarves- My Grandmother just got me a gorgeous one from England with keyboards and music notes on it (I’ve been a pianist since I was three) and it makes for a lovely headwrap. I’m wearing it as we speak.

Diet Coke With Splenda- I’m deathly (as in almost died of anaphylaxsis once) allergic to aspartame, so it was either no Coke at all or drink the full-lead stuff, neither of which are very good for my health. Now I can have the occasional glass!

Amy Winehouse- Im disappointed in her for the obvious reasons, but Back to Black is one of the coolest albums I own.

Doctor’s visit on Friday- Sounds bad to most people, but this is a GOOD doctor’s visit; I find out if I can get off crutches and into a hinged brace, if my knee is healing well, and if I can drive again. I effed the entire thing up pretty badly a few months ago playing soccer, tore my ACL and MCL tendons along with destroying my meniscus and cartilage. There goes my senior year on varsity! Oh well, I’ll be able to play in college, which is what really counts at this point.

  162. I usually get around to making my TiLT list earlier than this! Slept in too long this morning, wow.

! The Hush Sound’s new album. It’s beautiful! I’ve listened to it at least 20 times and it hasn’t gotten old yet.

! Since you brought it up, Ani DiFranco! My favorite song is “Falling Is Like This” and I think it’s one of the most beautiful love-songs ever written.

! Crossing things off MY to-do list for Spring Break— especially homework.

! That I cut my friend’s hair and it looks way cute! She got a bad hair-cut, but then we saved it. I feel pretty proud of myself!

! That I still have money in my pocket. Don’t know what I’m going to buy yet, but it’s nice to know I can buy something!

! Making a conscious decision to wait until the day I can buy Panic At The Disco’s new record in the store to hear it. It’s so tempting to listen because they leaked it, but I want to listen to it when I have the CD case in my hands.

! My neighbor Kyle’s bedroom. It’s his ENTIRE DOWNSTAIRS, and it is gorgeous. He has swords! From Asia! I want to live there.

...and many other things! (Like iCiNG, as always!)

Having my cousins in the country -I miss them so much when they’re gone, and they’ve already been crazy-fun as one of them has a spiderman costume which is all he will wear in public.

  170. Mary Bee, your TiLT is adorable!
Natalie, growing strawberries on your balcony sounds great, I might give it a try too!
    Erin B. : “Withnail & I” is amazing.

    My TiLT list:

The Kills’ new record: “I want you to be crazy cause you’re boring baby when you’re straight!” Yeaaaah!

The Paris Book Fair being finally over. Enough said. But we did manage to sold nearly all of our books (!)

“The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters”, by G.W. Dahlquist I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s been great so far. Strange science experiments, masked balls and dirty killers in an alternate 19th century. Yum.

Sesame seeds chocolate Can’t get enough of the stuff.

Japanese book “The Age of Feminine Drawing” I posted some scans on my blog, if anyone’s interested.

  171. x. the $100 check my aunt slipped into my Easter card. I cried for nearly 10 minutes because of how unexpected and needed it was.

    x. being told that i should come back to work and accepting that offer. i miss the people, free food, and interesting stories it gives me. plus, i need the cash and it is only until school lets out.

    x. powerade. i’ve been craving it for the past three days and i only let myself buy some today. my favorite is the white kind.

    x. PEEPS! my favorite easter candy (second is cadbury eggs, but they are way too sweet to top the list!). i received FOUR different boxes of them in various packages.

    x. not fighting or having misunderstandings with my boyfriend this week :)

    x. being invited to play triva at a local bar (i had to drink water because i’m only 20…but there was all the free popcorn you could eat). i’m a trivia junkie.

    x. my rhinestone padlock choker from www.shanalogic.com/ arriving. seriously, they are awesome people. the first necklace got lost in the mail and they SENT ME ANOTHER ONE FREE!! i love them soooo much & the necklace is crazy cool (it’s this one: shanalogic.com/item.php?item_i…).

    x. plums. i think i may have said that last week, but man o man, do i love plums. up here they are pretty expensive ($2.99 a pound) but i get them as often as i can. i’m convinced i could live off them…yum yum.

honestly, this week has had a lot of ups and downs and i put off making this list until something made me have to write it. the other things all followed after :)

  175. Ahhhhh, we’re so close to 200 entries! TELL YOUR FRIENDS! It is your duty! Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

    :D

    <3 Gala · Mar 20, 05:51 PM · #
  176. Of course we can get 200! Even though it’s almost over! :) If we keep trying who knows! (I love setting strange goals like this! :D )

    - Red lipstick, recently I’ve got really into it and, although it takes my donkeys years to put it on without looking like a clown when I get there it looks pretty good! (to me anyway! :P )

    - Good Grammar, I’m trying! God knows I’m trying!

    - Exclaimation marks! Don’t they just make life amazingly wonderful?! !!!!!!!! See! Screams excitement and joy!! :)

    - EASTER! Mmmmmmmm… chocolate….

    - Doing unconventional things! E.g I bought a new set of 4 badges (story of Old Gregg and The Funk form The Mighty Boosh [addicted to that atm! :D] ) But i didn’t have anywhere to put them so I put them on my headband! (which matched my lipstick by the way :P )

    - Getting lost on dog walks. Just wandering around fields and splish-splashing in puddles for ages! My dad had to come rescue me!

    - Iron on patches and motifs. Again, it’s time for another eBay frenzie! I’m trying to re-invent my self a bit as I seem to have got stuck in a rut (And i belive you, Gala, inspired this spurt of creativity so thank you!) so I have bought a few T-shirts and am ready to iron on my own slogans and logo’s and messages!

Oh there is just so much more that i can’t possibly fit it all on! I’d break the internet! So I’ll just have to save it for another day! :)

  177. Oh man! Almost to 200!

    Things I Love Thursday:

+ NOT getting evicted! I talked to my landlord & fixed it all.
+ volkswagen busses from the ’60’s & ’70s. I am going to purchase one & take off for the month of August to Portland, LA, & Burning Man!
+long hair; mine is finally freakin growing out & i can’t wait to turn it orange again!
+ chillin’ on the grass – it’s practically summer here in California & my friends & i have started hanging out at parks instead of being cooped up inside sharing food, playing music, hula hooping…
+ Golden Gate Park in San Francisco – planning on shrooming there in April
+ starting my day off with podcasts & morning pages & coffee.
+ avocado snows from Quickly cafe.
+ finding cheap amazing vegan food around my neighborhood.
+ camping, horseback riding, swimming…warm weather activities.
+ majorly scoring amazing stuff at amazing deals at salvation army; after not finding anything i liked all winter the vintage karma is finally coming back to me!

I just found out about the Raw Spirit Festival in Sedona (over my birthday! in September) & I am so tempted to go to that… to me it seems like the natural progression from BM :D

  180. Things I love Thursday!!
::Spring Break- Mine just ended last week but I had an amazing time as usual. I got to be a panelist on the MTVU show “The Freshmen”, I saw Lupe Fiasco and Paramore live in concert for free [I was sooo close to the stage too], and I met some amazing girls from Indiana.

::New friends- My new Hoosier pals from Indiana were so much fun and so nice, now I have an excuse to visit Indiana.

::Amazingly, great existing friends- I was texting from bed with a gnarly head cold about wanting pizza so my friend[who live on campus and doesn’t have a car] walked to the grocery store to buy ingredients to make pizzas =] I LOVE HER!!!!

::Gala!- For inspiring me and introducing me to knew things constantly. Thank you!

  189. Ooh the best day!!

    * Lush baths. Especially hot milk and blue skies/fluffy white clouds. The latter is really great for when my feet are killing me, and the former actually puts me to sleep! Haha~

    * Vacation, it’s on MONDAY, I am gleeful to the point of exploding!

    * Black cherry ice cream. Cannot stop eating this.

    * Silent movies.

    * Kabob express. Somehow I enjoy going in there and having no idea what people are saying. It is surreal and good.

    * Black pheonix alchemy lab. When I return home I am ordering 6 samples from them… but i don’t know WHAT! Eep. I have this massive list in my commonplace book.

    * Loose draped clothing.

    * Bandana headbands~! Headscarves in general. My hair is going downhill rapidly, and I do not have a hair appointment for a LONG time.

    * Weird creepy job apps. This may seem like a downside, but an application for an icecream stand that they have used for 40 years says: “State your height, weight, and favorite subjects.” It’s like myspace! I find it hilarious.

♥ Yak Pak Megu purses! I just tonight purchased one, and oh my god, I can’t wait to get it in the mail. I am so excited.

♥ Francesca Lia Block, I have been on such a kick for her writing lately. It’s so gorgeous and I always get so entranced and feel like I’m in a fairy tale!

♥ Pomegranate tea! I adore pomegranates so madly and tea is fantastic. Combine them and it’s just fantastic (and such a pretty color, too!).

  196. ♥ My best friend. We get incredibly lazy about keeping in contact sometimes, and then you head out to dinner, and its like being back in the arms of your family! She’s amazing and a big part of me.

♥ Living on a budget and sticking to it. I’m saving for new bedroom furniture.

♥ Searching for and planning my new beautiful bedroom sanctuary.

♥ Having my first swim in the ocean in over two years. I can’t believe its been so long, but it was such a spiritual experience. The ocean just takes me over!

♥ Talking to random people in public. Being new to a city, its nice finding people to talk to, even if on a superficial level!

♥ Nice bus drivers. You really make public transport so much more pleasant an experience.

  197. I have a feeling everyone is just playing hard to get in order to be the 200th commenter :P

    - Re reading Eat.Love.Play and enjoying it just as much as I did the first time, perhaps even more so because you can appreciate at a deeper level.

    - Jamaica,Jamaica,Jamaica, and plotting how I am going to get there before the end of the year. Same with Stonehenge.

-A new band I’ve just discovered called Lost Ocean, it’s like a transcendental experience every time you listen to them.

-My creative writing course at uni, and getting such good marks you know you’re doing something write. Plus, learning all the technical terms for things you’ve learnt already:the ‘past participle progressive, singular form’ ? :P

-The contrast between renting a place during the week and coming home for weekends.

-That winter is approaching so soon, hello ugg boots(only to be worn at home) fluffy jackets and copious amounts of delicious warm food!

-sitting outside readding the paper and drinking coffee. I find it a super relaxing way to start the day and it never fails to give me a happy start to the day.

-taking up social invites from people I dont know that well or in places where I will only know one or two people and then ending the night with a loads of prospective aquaintences numbers.

-attempting to buy only op-shop clothing, furniture etc…unless its a basic item like underware, jeans, etc.

-attempting to be aware of the products I am purchasing and their affects on the enviroment. For example attempting to buy local produce.

    -writing more music than ever!

  202. It’s not thursday, but I don’t care. Time is an illusion.

1.) The “Being Happy” podcast. It makes me calm, for some reason.

2.) Blank paper. I might’ve said this one before…whatever! It’s so full of possibility!

3.) Aceing tests in school. I turned mine in before everyone else…and then just sat there. Wallowing in my sudden genius. Ha.

4.) Working out. I feel like a ninja (in a Ramones tee).

5.) French curse words. Merde. Hehe!

6.) Austin, TX. Big pretty buildings, the river, LOTS of bats, and even more live music. And I was born here!! Ha x2!!!
