Things I Love Thursday

WHAT'S UP PATRICIA FIELD?!

Super-size it! 1; 2; 3; 4.

<3 Writing by an open window... with good music blaring (usually Notorious B.I.G., believe it or not), drinking ice-cold water, munching berries with juice-stained fingers, & watching life unfold below me. Honestly, it’s a hard combination to beat. You know what? Being a writer, just that in itself, is pretty amazing. I cannot begin to tell you how much I love, love, LOVE what I do, or how happy it makes me. Getting into a good writing space & producing something worthwhile is like entering bliss on earth.

<3 A social calender laden with delights — Patricia Field’s party last night (see below!), Sex & The City: The Movie avec my NYC nonpareils on Friday (yay!), a polo game on Saturday, & upcoming meetings with illustrators, astrologists, writers, bakers, graphic designers & all-around fabulous people!

<3 Patricia Field & her marvellous parties. Last night was so exciting! I went to M·A·C Cosmetics to have my make-up done, which was $50 extremely well spent. (See below!) Then I came home, got dressed & trotted over to the Patricia Field boutique. Her shop was packed, there were lots of cool fashion-forward people & cameras going off at all times, but it was so cramped that it was almost a bit redundant. So Gilda (my date!) & I decided to go to Patricia Field’s apartment instead & scope out the scene there! Well, Pat’s house is gorgeous — a huge space a couple of doors down from the boutique, full of art, pictures, big lounge spaces & bright colours. Gilda & I found ourselves a great little alcove to sit in & watch the circus. So much fun. (There is footage of me on Last Night’s Party, looking like I just escaped from an asylum, & I am here too…) & at the end of the night, I sidled up to Pat herself, & we had a conversation, flirted (!!!) & took the above picture. She is totally cool, not intimidating at all, & I loved every moment. I left on a high like no other. So good.

<3 Reagan at M·A·C Flatiron — He was absolutely sublime. So much so, in fact, that I just called him to propose marriage tell him how thrilled I was with his work. Eeeee! I was so impressed: he listened to me, adjusted things to my requirements & was generally magnificent. He’s the make-up artist who did Richie Rich’s face for the Heatherette for M·A·C launch, so he is definitely the guy… I can’t recommend him highly enough. Go to him if you need your face done! But I was amazed — $50, when he worked for an hour & a half? God that’s a good deal. I also got free mascara as part of the makeover. Yay! So happy! (You can see a close-up in natural light here!)

<3 New York City — Have I told you lately, that I love you? Have I told you, there’s no one else above you? Fill my heart with gladness! Take away my sadness! Ease my troubles, that’s what you do!

<3 Treats in the mail! It’s so nice to have an address again (!), because it means I have things on the way. For example: a Chi straightening iron (contented sigh), condoms with pictures of me on the front (I will totally write about it, don’t worry), Rhymesayers loot… & this morning I received three hats with major cute-factor. Fun fun!

<3 Sex & The City: The Movie! No explanation needed. I AM SO EXCITED. & if anyone spoils me… there will be trouble!

<3 Giulianna! I received this email yesterday, when I was getting my face done — & it made me smile so wide, I just had to share it with you!

“I was given an assignment. I was told to define myself with a picture. My portrait is titled Make Cupcakes, Not War/ The Icing Army.”

Make Cupcakes, Not War/The Icing Army

<3 Honourable mentions: Ridiculous music (Wham!, Black Sabbath, Paris Hilton, Deftones… often played in quick succession); the fact that Discotech made an AWESOME song out of Bill O’Reilly spitting the dummy — download it now!; big yellow school-buses (before this trip, I had only ever seen them in movies); horse poo (I’ve decided to learn to love it — it stinks, but what can I do? First in Melbourne, now New York, & all for the sake of the romanticism of a horse-drawn carriage. I am resigned to my fate! I accept!); talking to my schmoo (that would be Simon — by the way, did you know that we sometimes refer to ourselves as Simon & Galafunkel?); my relationship with my parents (I talk to them every day); my Helio Ocean (it’s been sprayed with M·A·C Fix+ & made sticky with an über-strong Cosmopolitan [both of which happened yesterday], dropped & sweated onto, but I think it all adds to the “patina” — it’s along on the ride with me!); little things (like cold water, stretching, enjoying the sunlight & really good quality recordings of music); life in general (if you couldn’t tell from this particular TiLT, I am totally enchanted by life right now).

“It’s a sign of mediocrity when you demonstrate gratitude with moderation.” — Roberto Benigni

No mediocrity allowed! I want to hear your BIG LOVE list! Sit there, close your eyes, imagine yourself bursting with energy, vibrancy, excitement & vitality… then start typing! Go go go!

Hyper-love & bunny kisses,

  8. Your make-up looks amazing. I’ve never thought about going to have it done properly before, bit maybe I should, for special occasions! Also, were your eyebrows always tinted blue like your hair? I feel like they look a bit different, but I can’t put my finger on it!

Where is your amazingly huge ring from (on your right hand, in the first video)? I love it.

  10. sophie~ — Mmmmmm, Macbook… sweet, sweet Macbook… I hear you!

selina — Thank you honeypuff! He did such a good job, I am ecstatic.

kaz — You should come to NYC & I’ll introduce you!!

Juls — Yay, summer holidays! Enjoy them!

Aimee Marie — Getting your make-up done for a special occasion is great, it gives you such a boost of self-confidence to know you look impeccable! My eyebrows aren’t always purple. I had them bleached & coloured to match at Wildilocks in Melbourne, but it has since faded out, so my eyebrows are now back to their usual colour. There was a time when they were half blonde, not very attractive! But Reagan filled them in with purple, & he did a great job! & my ring is from Tarina Tarantino… www.tarinatarantino.com !

emily — It was amazing! Dream come true :>

  12. :) I love:

University Am about to embark on what is most likely the hardest year so far but I am so super excited!
Surprising myself I recently broke up with my boyfriend which while sucky did lead to a revelation – much to my own amazement it turns out I am not the person I thought I was anymore… Has been a pretty awesome discovery!!
Dancing I always love dancing. Tis super, fantastic and amazing and one of my favourite things in the whole wide world and I am just going to keep on saying it to emphasise the point…

my new purple scarf, my little sisters, the sunshine, fresh squeezed orange juice. dancing, wearing high heels, talking, my new stripey t-shirt, meeting new people, going for coffee, paintings by Berthe Morisot. My parents, potato waffles, colourful eye makeup, having time to see my friends. Dancing, jewellery and unexpected compliments.

    :)

  13. Inglot A store opened up near my work recently and I decided to go in and make up a pallet of colours, I trusted the consultant completely and got some colours that at first I was very scared to try out (including bright pinks and greens) but now I love. Its totally gotten me out of the rutt of always wearing neutral colours!
Contiki I’m going across the us for 24 days on contiki and I am super excited! Not only that I get to catch up with one of my best friends ever in New York, she is one of those people who I can not see in years and then when I do see her pick up where we left off. I love that.
The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer Its so addictive that its taking up my life, every spare moment that I get I’m curled up reading! Its awesome. though I wish some of my friends read it so I can talk about it to someone!
Moving back home I never thought I’d say this but I’m moving home and I’m actually super happy about it. I love and miss my little brother and mum. I miss being little instead of taking on all these adult responsibilities that I’ve had to deal with over the past three years (I’m only 20 and have been on my own since I was 17). Its hopefully going to take the stress off me while I do not one, but two full time degrees.

  14. Yay Gala!! You must have had such an incredible time! I was so excited to see your ongoing updates on Twitter last night!

    - Going to a show tonight! I haven’t been to a show since… April? March? Anyway, it’s the Fiery Furnaces, and my sweetie has friends in the opening band (Grand Ole Party — female vocalist who is also the drummer = AWESOME.)

    - Cute headbands! Since my hair is all shaggy and kind of grunge-adorable what with the platinum-and-roots, I’ve been playing a lot with cute fabric headbands in Japanese prints and a beaded ribbon one (which I am wearing today).

    - Moving! Well, I’m not moving, but my sweetie is this weekend, so I’ll be helping out? I guess? But I’m really excited for him — and for having an actual place to stay in the city!

    - Cupcake Camp! There’s an open source cupcake meet-up in San Francisco this weekend, and I’m going to be bringing Dr. Pepper cupcakes! (The recipe calls for cherry cola, but I think Dr. Pepper will be a better experiment!)

Next week will be awesome as well!

  15. Oooh, Gala, you’ve been keeping so busy! I’m totally giggly for you – meeting Patricia Field! With a cute date! !!!

Reminding myself to eat chocolate every day – I’m not used to eating sweets, but I made a batch of raw chocolate with cocoa powder, dried cranberries, coconut milk, and agave nectar, and so far a piece a day has been SO GOOD for my body!

appreciating my Mac – It’s out of service at the moment, and the I’m using icky non-macs for the next few weeks. Steve Jobs is getting a lifetime of consumer loyalty from me after this.

having a reading list longer than my list of homework for the past semester – ‘Nuff said! It’s even better than studying things I like…

  18. “Simon & Galafunkel?” TOO CUTE!

This Week I Am In Love With:

-Going to the park and building sandcastles on the volley ball court because it rained a day ago.

-Repainting the living room bright green.

-The haphazard stack of books on my printer waiting to be read (At first I thought they were rather daunting, now I can’t wait to spend the weekend reading).

-My best friend is finally graduating and now we’ll be able to spend time with each other. I am so thankful to have her in my life, and she feels the same way about me.

-Random midnight ghost hunts in creepy old houses.

-Getting the new additions to my pin collection in the mail.

  19. I’ve wanted to live in New York City since I was little, and reading about it on your blog has made me want to move there even more!!

    I love:
Books – during school I was never able to read as much as I’d like, but now that it’s summer I can read all day!

My Macbook – my puppy chewed on the cord so now I can’t use it until I can go buy a new one. Until then, I’m stuck using my old PC. :(

My Car – I finally learned how to drive, but then my parents got me a stick shift car so I had to learn that. It’s really hard but I can finally do it!

  20. My journel! :D No, it isn’t a Moleskine I’m afraid but I’m working on it!!! Since you gave us that lovely inspiring post I have started working with it and never stopped! It now holds pictures, Haikus, other poems, a story about a fox called Lance and letter from my friends!

Lolly pops, Rock sticks and candy caines Oh the sticky chewy lovelyness!

shopping! I’ve never been an amzing shopper, taking a back seat to my sister who could give Paris Hilton a run for her money! But my mum took just me up to Camden (my favourite place EVER in England!) Where the only people who don’t fit in there are the people who would fit in in a “normal” place. I spent LOADS!

Style of Camden Ok, you got me. This is just an elaboration of the above point but everyone embraces bright colours, neon streaks, big boots, tall hair and super super skinny jeans! It’s just bliss.

Learning to sew Finally I’m learning to make my own stuff and it feels so warm and tingly to just have achieved something! XD

Daddy likey and Winona herself! Such style, such wit, such variety and boy does she know her stuff! She’s awesome!

So much more but I have to go out now! :P
    Cuddles and cookies, Vixxie.

Looking out my window It is so inspiring to see the trees and the clouds in the sky. Or the moon and stars at night. It definitely puts me in the mood to write.

Ice Tea Summer is finally here!

New Clothes Nothing better than a new outfit to put you in a good mood.

Sexy Bartender Friends Free drinks and something nice to look at ;)

    PICNICS!-

I’m going on a picnic w my laaady tonight! Eeep! I’m so excited. There will be sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, raspberry lemonade, and yummy fresh cherries!
    She’s.. really fantastic.

    UNEMPLOYMENT!-

I should be really upset that I’m about to be completely broke, but I feel sooo free. I don’t have to plan my life around a work schedule, it’s amazing. I’ll have to figure out some way to make money and keep this going because I can’t bare the thought of having a boss again.

    RHUBARB JAM!-

It has been so long since I’ve had homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam, it’s so yum, I can’t stop scraping it out of the jar with my fingers!

  24. Simon and Galafunkel is quite possibly one of the cutest things I’ve ever heard!

Here are the things I love:

    - my new fedora which i am consistently complimented on – finally being at peace with my body and my size and only wearing things that fit and look good, and NOT things that are trendy and too small – Play: The Nylon Book of Music, which is a fun collection of fashion and music and style from a lot of famous female celebrities- I’m sure you’d love it, Gala! – living in DC with my boyfriend We are in the cutest little apartment, and we are deliriously happy – Trader Joe’s, which is the cheapest, best organic and healthy grocery store ever! – lilac eyeshadow, that brings out the most beautiful tones in my hazel eyes – the orchids sitting on our kitchen tablethe beautiful weatherstarting my internship next weekfinding and reading the best fashion blogs – music by The Pixies, Santogold, and Nouvelle Vague

  25. Oooh, I see Gilda in the photo!!~so adorable she is :)

    ~Making food—Because I rock at it _

~This chubby adorable Korean kid in my school—I just wanna squeeze his cheeks!! MWAHMWAHMWAH!! And he sounds like a Disney cartoon character, like..Baby Roo!

  26. Sorry, my list was cut off for some reason :| I have more!!

~Massaging people—It’s nice to be able to have a talent for providing comfort.

    ~My eyes—I recently realized: they’re pretty :)

    ~Arabic music—Like Nancy Ajram’s Oul Tany Keda..Such fun tunes. Great to (belly)dance to :)

~Unexpected treasure—One of my friends sent over a great book for me…it’s got all these funny archaic phrases like “Pinking dindee” for instance, which was the term for “An Irishmen who randomly assaults passerbys for pleasure”...or “Admiral of the Narrow Seas”: someone sitting opposite you on a ship, who vomits in your lap from sea-sickness.. It just makes me go “They had NAMES for that??”

~My granny—She’s staying over, and we never got to know each other since we’ve always been outside of Pakistan..but now I realize..she’s cool!

~Pomegranate juice—We get it from the Lebanese shop nearby. Not only is it tasty, it’s such a beautiful colour!

    ~Traditional Japanese music—I like pop/rock normally, but..oh God! This genre so harmonious and LOVELY.{Here’s an example: youtube dot com/watch?v=6_D6EgBwb5U}

~Coming out of my shell—It’s the end of the year, but I’m finally getting used to this school and getting bolder. Shyness is so tiresome..now I can be witty and crazy without worrying :)

~Great people—I’m just surrounded by them. They’re all wonderful, the strangers, the mere acquaintances, and the friends and family. I’m so lucky.

  28. I agree Gala, your squee’s of glee can be felt right over the internet! Just reading your post made me want to kiss a puppy…or blow bubbles in an open field!

My list is long, but that’s a good thing:

Knowing my strength I’ve always had an independent streak, but moving to a big city all alone a few weeks ago really tested me, more than I thought it would. I know now that I really am as strong as I thought, and I have proof that I really can do anything I want to.

Working in a beautiful historic mansion Being able to spend every day working in such an awe-inspiring environment really turns my crank! I’ve always been drawn to things that are aesthetically pleasing, and now every day I come to work feeling like Marie Antoinette (pre-guillotine, of course)!! Inspiration is everywhere, and I am eating it up…

Lust at first sight I’d almost forgotten the fabulous feeling of meeting someone and having an instant attraction…until this morning! I wonder what intrigues are in store for the future…?!

Washington DC My new home-away-from-home has really turned on the charm for me these past few weeks. As I sit now in my gorgeous Louis XVI-style office, with the windows open, I can hear birds chirping in the garden, feel the cool breeze, breathe the fresh air. It makes me aware of how beautiful life really is! Not to mention, back in Florida it would already be 90 degrees and humid! Needless to say, I’m loving my relocation.

Baseball games Growing up in the south, it never really feels like summer without baseball. I got to go to my first Washington Nationals game this past weekend, and I gotta say, it was pretty great. Beer, hotdogs, and baseball – nothing like it!

Meeting new people I am a sucker for pretty strangers, and there is no shortage of them here! I love the excitement of meeting someone new and instantly clicking. I’ve made so many friends here already & I know there are tons more on the way.

My date with Carrie & the gang I know this is so redundant but I AM SO EXCITED for the Sex & the City movie! Unfortunately I’m a couple hours from NYC, but the girls and I will be with you in spirit, in my fanciest shoes!

Honorable mentions Free lunches, sugar cookies, new tunes for my iPod, CakeLove, picnics in the park, yellow sundresses, fresh fruit, Notes from the Universe (AMAZING!), rays of sunshine, intellectually stimulating conversation, baby animals, happy accidents (serendipity!), and living in the moment.

  31. I love that you refer to yourselves as Simon and Galafunkel, that is the most amazing thing i’ve heard all day!

    I’m loving:
+ Adventures in my own city – I live in London and have done all my life but I always seem to stick to the same places! I love going on little adventures and just walking a different way because I always discover something new and lovely.

+ Funny feelings! – Well it’s more of a love/hate relationship. College is over forever soon and the mix of fear and excitement is intense. I’m scared at not knowing what I’m going to do next (I haven’t got solid plans) but I’m excited at the same time. The world is my oyster (i hope!)

+ Cake and giggles – Good chocolate cake, a nice sunny spot on the grass and a good friend. Beautiful.

+ Inspiration! – I actually have to thank you for the artists posts. All the creative photos obviously did something to me because last night I got ridiculous inspired and excited and rushed out to buy a plain moleskine today to document these thoughts!

+ My special people – I have a stupid amount of acquaintances in my life and it can all get a bit lonely sometimes so I’m thankful I have a couple of beautiful, amazing friends who mean the world to me. It always makes me smile that my nearest and dearest are probably opposites of myself. I’m just happy I have these great people around me.

I spose Gala will be in NYC forever by then though!
~ My boyfriend, I love him more everyday, we are so happy living together and I cannot wait to show him the antipodes!
~ Throwing caution to the wind!

  36. Jeanne — Yay, cupcake meet-up! When my friend Jess comes to town we’re going to go to one too. Should be exciting!

ansi — Mmmm, raw chocolate! That’s awesome & good for you! I’ve been eating Green & Black’s chocolate pretty much every day too, it’s so good for a mood boost & treat!

ami — YAY! Haha. That’s the aim! & your friend sounds like a total champ… wow!

Kortnee — Haha, thank you! Actually, it’s probably more accurate to say “Simoon & Galafunkel” — Simooooon is just much more fun to say than Simon!

Vixxie — Camden is pretty amazing, huh?! The first time I went there I spent sooo much money. & Cyberdog is still one of the coolest shops I’ve ever seen!

Stephy — Yay, I’m glad the book helped you! I actually didn’t bring my copy with me (too big & heavy) so it is languishing at home alone, unloved & unread!

Liesel — Hell yes to picnics! That sounds delicious. & congratulations on your new-found freedom! Good luck with finding a way to maintain it…

Kristen — PROPS on making peace with your body & dressing to flatter it! That’s a major milestone, so many people never even get to that stage! Woohooooooo!

    [a} — Yes, I love Gilda!

Erin — Oh my! Thanks for letting me know!

jessica — Your life sounds AMAZING!

Aurea — I cannot begin to express how excited I was when I left! I was like WOOOOOOO! I was awake until 3.30am, haha, fuelled by glee!

Toria — You should definitely do it. It’s totally worth it. Tell her I said you have to!

    giulianna — You are adorable!

  39. THINGS I LOVE
+ Secret rendezvous in the library
+ Summer dresses (I have a new one—black with lime green polka dots, which looks like Bettie Page interpreting “ingenue” and is utterly charming in every way.)
    + Writing novels in longhand
+ Being obsessively in love with certain songs (at the moment, “Portions for Foxes” by Rilo Kiley…and “Cecilia” by Simon & Garfunkel!)
+ Organisation (three shelves full of alphabetised CDs = amazing satisfaction.)
    + Glorious summertime weather
    + Swimming pools
+ Turning on Jezebel, reading the article about Pat Field, and having the instantaneous reaction of “Oh, my gosh! That’s Gala!” Hee.

  40. First of all I’m in love with your black leopard dress! I need to know where you got it from! Seriously, here is a blank cheque, write any amount!!

And Kaz oh my God I’m SO with you on the rocket and parmesan salad!!!! Try it with balsamic vinegar <dies>

Birthdays – more specifically, mine. 2 days ago.

Weekends Off – A rare weekend off work. Having belated birthday party time :D

Parma Violets – I don’t know if you can get these outside of the UK but they’re my favourite sweets. Ever.

Moleskine – I bought it over a week ago and finally got up the courage to write in it last night.

New Hair – I’ve had unnaturally coloured hair for 2 years straight but I dyed it very dark brown (almost black) with a bright green slice 2 days ago and I love having dark hair again! My skin even looks better against it! And I’m getting it cut tomorrow so I’ll have all round sexy hair!

Rival Schools – One of my favourite bands, split up ages ago. Reformed. Touring the UK this month. Best. Ever.

  41. Your makeup is MASSIVE! Reminds me of a stage show I was in when a drag queen did our makeup – and I mean that in a good way . . ! Also, Simon & Galafunkel is hilarious! And what’s your postal address, honey? Are you POBoxed-up yet? (So I can send you postcards of wintry West Coast beaches/buzzy bees etc . . .)

    ‘Tennyrate, here’s my Friday list:

Kapa haka: so soothing. I feel all secure and happy at practice. Takes me back to my childhood. For a CHANGE, it’s nice to know that I’m not in charge and I have to go with the group and do it the Maori way. Happy sigh.

Rhys Bobridge: I know, no longer Of The Moment, but I borrowed some kids’ CDs for preschool-ballet-teaching purposes, and there was swoonalicious Rhys on the cover of the Fairies CD (and the sensational Kate on the Wiggles one!)

Lisa Howell: a truly inspirational Aussie-based web presence. Turns out she’s originally from NZ. Hmm, who else have I encountered like that . . . ? (WINK!) She’s a ballet-dancing physio. My feet have never felt better than they do this week. Her vids are here:
    www.youtube.com/profile_videos…

Frost! Doesn’t happen often, so it’s SO exciting! First one of the season.

Re-reading the Anne of Green Gables series. Pure gold.

Ballet teaching: My girls have improved so much this term! And my teenage beginners are adorable! They’re all tough and cool in real life, but when it’s just me and them and the music, they’re expressing themselves so sweetly and working so hard! I feel honoured to have their trust.

Hand-me-downs: So “eco”, so financially prudent, so vintage, so soft and worn-in.

  42. getting a $500 gig designing a website for a local business – my best friend recommended me and demands that i treat her to a fancy dinner or new pair of shoes in return! it’s exciting because i have plenty of free time at work where i can use my laptop, so i can work on this project while on the clock!

learning not to wash my hair every day – i recently had my hair dyed reddish-brown, and i’m trying to only shower every other day in order to keep the color for longer. i found out that it’s not just shampoo that strips it, but the pH level in the water affects it as well, so “not washing my hair” also means “not getting my hair wet.” it’s tough because i normally hate starting my day without a shower, but i’ve found some products that make it work, and i know it’ll be worthwhile.

making myself an americano every morning at work – i have to pull test shots to make sure the espresso is brewing juuust riiiight. when i get it perfectly calibrated, i use the shots in a free drink for me!

adopting a cat from the oregon humane society! – i live by myself in a portland apartment, and i’m planning to adopt a cat for company. i’ve been trying to contact the foster mom of this adorable “special needs” cat that was advertised on the website. it’s name is pig pig, and he/she is a hermaphrodite! the cat has an unusually small bladder and kidneys, but it doesn’t seem like the medical issues will cause much trouble. they say he was taken from his mother at a young age, so he likes to sleep with you and suck on fingers, toes, & noses! cuuute.

Chewy chocolate chip cookies – ohhhh, yes.

Big white taffeta ruffles, especially when combined with matching sequins on an 80s prom dress being worn by a beautiful girl.

Agility – Just got back from my 4th agility class and my dog and I are coming on in leaps and bounds.

+Being a section leader, which is the best thing I’ve ever been in my life

+Drinking almost ridiculous amounts of root beer

+The shirt I’m wearing right now, which is teal and has sparkly sequins around the v-neck part… love

    +The end of the year

+The fact that most of my yearbook is covered entirely in signatures by my fellow band geeks

    +Summer break, which starts in a week {squeal!}

    +Neon pink duct tape

    +Covering things in glitter

I’d have to say, this week has been pretty amazing. Oh, and how I wish I could attend the movie premiere. But sadly, I live in Las Vegas, and my mother probably doesn’t want to travel across the country to see a movie {tear}. I hope you have a great time though. (:

  54. Traveling
I’ve spent the last three months away from home! Two of them in San Francisco and the last one hiding at my parent’s beach house in beautiful Tofino.

    Stove Top Espresso Makers
I just purchased one and have been drinking Americanos all week – there is something so darling about it!

    Exciting Prospects!!
Moving to San Francisco; long distance love affair becoming a short distance love; a trip to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro quickly approaching.

    Tofino
Eagles overhead; kayaking out to the whales; surfing in cold cold water; neverending ocean out my bedroom window; old-growth rainforest out the front door; being alone here to wrap my head around things.

    Parties!
I return home on Saturday to a long list of parties! Dressing up as a unicorn next Friday night for one of them – eep!!

  55. I just found your website a few days ago and it’s so inspiring! So, things I love today…

Finding a summer job that lets me have Thursdays and Fridays off – it’s not the best job in the world but it gives me some spending money.

My blackberry – I’m home from college for the summer and I live way in the country and we don’t have high speed internet access so I’m fairly dependent on my phone now…it’s kinda sad :(

Getting to see my little brother play baseball :)

Summertime in a small, southern town – I spend about half the year in Raleigh, NC (which is a really big city for me) going to school, so it’s always nice to be home in Virginia and summer’s always the best time on the farm; it’s so beautiful!

English literature – I’m taking a class this summer and I can’t wait to for it to start! I love to read and will read anything I can get my hands on, but I love works that have meaning and history and learning more about them.

So exciting to read, and really makes me want to skip right over to NYC!

    This week:
-I got my FIRST job. I’m stoked. It’s at the GAP next to my house (I live across the street from a mall), and I’m so excited to be diving into a new scene!

-My school marks keep coming back with really great results. Hurrah! Hard work does pay off!

-I visited my (future) college (CEGEP for locals). And while I was there, I looked around and got so extremely excited with the prospect of being with SO MANY new people. And when I saw a few really tall people, I squealed “MY PEOPLE!”. What a great first impression, eh?

-Graduating. It just feels like a huuuuge weight is lifting of my shoulders, now that I’m graduating next week. Going to a all girls Catholic school was a lot more challenging than it seemed!

    Tamar — Eeeee, I knowwww!

Crezia — Aw, so cute! xx

Joanne — The dress is from Ricochet in New Zealand. It’s a winter-weight dress, so soon it will be much too warm to wear it, but it is looovely! Hey, happy retrospective birthday! & I like Parma Violets too… I buy them in Melbourne at a candy import shop!

Nadine aka iCiNG Mother Hen (!) — I read your comment as I was walking the mean streets of Manhattan (ha!) & it made me smile like mad! I do have an address, oui, I will email it to you… thank you for your list, I adore it & can feel your love coming through the screen!

lauren — If your hair is feeling really gross, dry shampoo (in a can!) can be a life-saver. A good thing to have in your bathroom, just in case. Apparently Bumble & Bumble do a good one but I’ve never tried it. I’m trying not to wash my hair so much too, it can be tricky to break the habit!

cosette — Thank you sweetie! Yes, I am loving being here, every moment is a delight.

  66. I’ve still got an hour left to Thursday, right? Which means I’m not too late for TiLT!
Hebrew Les Mis which sounds totally crazy, right? My friend burned me a copy, which she made of a copy of the LP. It’s the original Israeli cast, from 1986, and it’s pretty freaking awesome. I’m going to use it as part of my Hebrew practice over the summer
Seeing Hamlet for free last Tuesday night. DC’s Shakespeare Theatre Company does a free-for-all show every year, and my grandmother and I went together. It was wonderful.
Going to the beach for the weekend with the family, despite the various and assorted craziness going on with all of us lately.
Going to the library and picking out piles and piles of books that I actually want to read, rather than things that have been assigned for academics!
Getting to know DC in a way I never have before. I’ve never really been an adult in DC, until this summer, and I’m trying to take advantage of this period of time between the end of the semester and the start of my job to get to know the city I grew up in. It’s been fun so far! I’m going to museums, visiting neighborhoods that I never really hung out in before, all sorts of stuff.

  67. my boyfriend – he is so inspiring. I just can’t get over how much lust he has for life, music, art & how he manages to live happily on very little money every week.. he inspires me not to stress so much, and always tells me “everything will be alright” when i’m worried, covering my face in kisses. I love you, Blake!

my friend Mary – she is so cute, always saying sorry for turning up late/not bringing enough wine/etc but I have told her she has to stop being so nice! And now she’s addicted to bowling (we had our birthday at the bowling alley!)

my friend Vashti in NZ – she made me a gorgeous book of ‘musical goodness’ filled with songs she’s Muxtaped onto cd for me! and little memories for each one (for my 22nd birthday last Monday) it was awesome!

Radiohead. Can’t get enough. Cat power. Clare Bowditch. Young Leviathan. Music in general!

Getting a guitar lesson book w/ dvd for my bday from Blake – he said I don’t need any singing lessons (which I asked for), and that I need to write more songs. haha!

Salad with spinach leaves, tomato, feta cheese, olives… YUM!

Being AMAZINGLY great at my job. Even though I hate it sometimes, I am getting great feedback about my customer service. It’s nice to finally feel noticed and not just be another number.

Painting. I am gonna start a project – that me & Blake have to paint something together over some drinks this weekend… fun!

honorable mentions: nature. reiki. my mum. family. new haircuts. chocolate. dreams & moonology.com horoscopes!

  69. x Hair appointments! I booked in to get my hair done the other day (it’s now a little bit shorter, a little bit darker – nothing too drastic, but I feel good), and even though I am yet to master the art of making it look exactly-the-same-as-it-did-at-the-salon after-I-wash-it.. I love going to salons. A LOT.

x Is there anything better than a good coffee or hot chocolate and cake session? Yes, if you share it with one of your best friends and then decide to visit a local park afterwards and play on the swings, taking silly photos!

x The ‘Carrie’s Closet’ jewellery collection for Diva, brought out for the release of the Sex & The City movie! I mentioned it last week when I was wearing the black flower brooch in a ‘Daily Outfit’ photo, but it is so worth mentioning again – it is 100% adorable. Think little Eiffel Tower necklaces, gorgeous silver chains with shoe pendants on them, flower earrings and chokers, corsages, the ‘Carrie’ nameplate necklace – perfection!

x And while we’re on the subject.. the Sex & The City movie comes out NEXT WEEK! Next week! Next week next week next WEEK! As you may have guessed, I’m just a little bit excited.. (next WEEK!)

x Free drinks! I have to admit that lately, I have not been a morning person. AT ALL. You can imagine my delight then when a lovely young man was giving out free cans of the energy drink ‘V’ near my work this morning.. thank-you, ‘V’, thank-you! I have been buzzing ever since!

x Sparkly headbands, black & white photos, Flickr (they have the best images!) and warm, cosy scarves.

  70. Things I Love Thursday:

    - The fact it’s actually FRIDAY and we have a long weekend! – Goji berries covered with Swiss dark chocolate. They’re like cherry ripe balls but waaaay better for you! – Green apple sorbet smoothies! Ok, so it’s just the flavouring of green apples and nothing healthy about them – but they are still so yummy! – My cappuccinno machine! And having people over to enjoy them with me – SEX & THE CITY MOVIE and all the buzz and hype surrounding it! I’m sooo excited and am planning on buying the boxset as well as my own nameplate necklace, (as well as splurging on the beautiful collection from Diva!) can’t wait!!

Honourable Mention: Buying Vogue Paris for the very first time!! I talked myself into it and it’s sooo amazing, I have such an obsession with France and Parisian Culture (must have been my childhood obsession with movies like Moulin Rouge and Amelie!), so hopefully this will push along my French speaking skills! Every page is like ..drool!

Also, reading about YOU in NYC! It’s so crazy, it’s like you’re living a Carrie-esque life and being a totally suave writer taking a bite of the big apple – I always have no idea what to comment cause I’m sospeechless at the scenery, the culture, the stories, everything! I’m so jealous and glad to hear you’re having a lovely time. You and New York go well together, hee sorry for the long long comment!

  71. My Guitar~ I got it a year and a half ago when I turned sixteen. I have finally made myself learn how to play. I now know how to play four chords and I can switch between three of them successfully. The calluses on the tips of my fingers feel strange, but they’re worth it.

Summer~ The fact that it is just lurking around the corner for me. Tomorrow I have to go in to the school (I’m homebound due to medical conditions) and present my report on rock music. I have to make a poster and dress nice (I’m thinking about wearing my bunny dress :O) and then Tuesday I will be taking my art final at home and as soon as my teacher leaves, I am summer free! I will officially be a Senior. And thankfully, everything is going better now medical-wise, so I get to go back for my Senoir year! I’m so happy! And I have a reduced schedule so I will be graduating early!

My Wild Crazy hair~ Seriously, I have no idea how it puts up with me. Let’s just say that, since the seventh grade, I have not seen my natural hair color. I’ve had a rainbow of hair color over my lifetime. I was naturally blonde when I was little and it became light brown, since then I have had a perm (LOVE curly hair), blue, teal, purple, blue and purple, a white streak in front, black, brown, various shades of natural and unnatural reds, even orangey yellowy. Everything but green.

My Cat~ Her name is Nyobi and she is such a spaz. She is definately my cat. No doubt about it. Aww, she even came over here.

Any Animals Really~ I love animals. Period.

THE TANK GIRL MOVIE~ I had no idea there was a Tank Girl Movie! That was such a wonderful intro into the world of Tank Girl. Sadly I did not finish watching it, nor did I hit record. Alas, I shall finish it one day!

My Boyfriend, Jake~ Two and a half years, several states away, and still in love. It’s so wonderful. He’s actually moving down here after he graduates next year.

Quaker’s Rice Cakes~ They’re SO yummy in all those pretty flavors! I’ve had Apple Cinnamon and some kind of chocolatey one. They’re delicious.

Ramen~ I could live off it right now. Beef and Chicken. Buy me a couple of those six packs of each and I’m set.

Moleskines~ I want one so bad. I keep looking up pictures that people have done in them and just keep getting more and more envious. Maybe if I get a job at this place I wanna work, I can just order one off the internet.

Job~ Well, hopeful-job. A place called TerrificPets is opening nearby and I’m gonna try to get a job! I’m excited. It’ll be my first job. :O

Fuze Drinks~ OMG! Those things are delicious! There are a must to try. Especially the smoothie ones! I love Banana Colada! Yumm! So tasty AND so good for you! Flip the bottle around and check out all that good stuff! It gives you a whole list and tells you what each is for.

Honorable Mentions~ My Aunt, she’s wonderful; My mom, she’s the best; fruit, just the thought makes me drool, give me fruit, ramen and something sweet and I’ll be set to live on forever, don’t forget vegetables; and Guitar Hero III.
