Things I Love Thursday!
Super-size it!
/ / /

Okay, so… exciting news! This is the FIFTY-SECOND TiLT! Do you know what that means? YES! If you’ve been with me since the first TiLT, we’ve now been doing this FOR A YEAR SOLID! I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome that is. It makes me SO happy! & even better is that every week, TiLT just gets stronger & stronger! More new people join in & start to experience the glee! One of the coolest things is that TiLT is spreading all across the internet; I read SO many blogs now where they do a regular love list! It’s fantastic! The more happiness you can generate, the better you feel. Sometimes my mental image of TiLT is a girl on an exercise bike, pedalling like mad, with little heart-shaped bubbles blowing out behind her. I love it! Love it love it love it! So, kudos to you for sticking around & participating, thank you!

<3 Practising my social skills — I have been doing this a lot lately, especially with all the travelling I’ve done. If you can be charming to the people who check you in, it pays dividends. They’ll give you good seats, I guarantee, & even though my suitcases are always over the weight allowance, I never get charged for it. But the thing is, everyone likes a bit of enchantment. Sometimes I almost make it into a game. I like to see how much fabulousness I can extract from people I’ve only just met; I like to give them a chance to prove how completely awesome they are. They almost always delight me, it’s totally great. You should try it, it’s good sport!

<3 Cute emails from amazing people — On Tuesday night I received a really adorable email from… deep breath… Slug from Atmosphere. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, there are not enough exclamation points in the world to adequately express my excitement. By the way, he read your comments & they made him blush! Awww!

<3 Laughing until my cheeks hurt — There is nothing better than spending time with people who really know you & make you laugh. My parents, my best friend Jennie & my ex-boyfriend Alex all fall into this category, & since they’re the people I’ve spent the most time with recently, it’s all good. My cheeks are getting a good work-out. My grandmother’s nickname for me used to be “Face Ache” (charming, right?!) & this week it has never rung more true.

<3 This photograph of Eva Carrière:

<3 My new hair — It took me a couple of days to adjust to the change — after all, I’d been purple for about 10 months — but now I have & I’m LOVIN’ it! Wildilocks did such a good job, & I love that it’s not just a flat one colour all over like it used to be. In the olden days, I used to just slather a bottle of Atomic Pink all over my tresses & hope for the best. But this is a combination of Atomic Pink & Virgin Rose, so the colour is deeper & richer, & I adore it! It looks amazing in the sunlight, & it makes my eyes look intensely aqua. Mermaid eyes! Yay!

<3 Makeshift winter outfits — I am wearing my grey Country Road cardigan as a skirt right now. It’s warm. I’m into it.

<3 Life itself — I went from New York to Melbourne to Wellington in 5 days. I cleared out the life I used to live in four hours after spending five times that many hours on a plane. Now I’m here in New Zealand, quietest place on earth perhaps. To say it has been a drastic adjustment is an understatement, but I am doing pretty well, & I am actually really happy. Going from action central to the place I grew up in is pretty mind-bending, & has presented its own challenges, but I’m convinced that it is good for me! It’s important to be able to be happy wherever you are, because ultimately it’s all about how happy you are with yourself!

Billy Joel — Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)
One of my new favourite songs.

<3 Honorary mentions: “I wish you were here so I could make you raspberry macarons at an obscenely early hour”; a conversation with my lovely friend Jo which incited her to throw double horns; smuggling cupcakes across the border (no kidding!); loooong talks with Jennie; sitting in the sun drinking tea & writing; the fact that even though it is cold, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be!; jumping back on the raw wagon; my super-uber-hyper-pink Barbie manicure with purple gems; making fun plans for NYC in September; sleeping in my new polka-dot hoodie from American Apparel (cozy & cute); awesome boy karma; stalk-o-vision @ the galaverse!; teeny little Fafinettes (see above!); good hands; barbeque rice crackers; soup with lots of pepper; Entourage (did you know I have a crush on Ari Gold?!); Darcy Clay; ugg boots (secret admission: I stole them from my father & they are so hideous but so warm, I cannot stop wearing them, but I promise I will never leave the house in them!), & that whole ‘when it rains it pours’ thing!

“Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes & choices… Today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.” — Kevyn Aucoin

Your turn… ! Make it a BIGGIE for TiLT’s first birthday! Woooooooooohoo!

Hyper-love & bunny kisses,

  1. This is actually my first TILT, even though i’ve been reading since the begining of the site…

1-Change: I’ve spent most of my life waiting to be happy, a lot of “i’ll-be-happy-when…‘s”. For the first time, I feel like I’m living now.

2-Going to Munches: I went to my first bdsm meeting the back of a diner. It was like a normal meal with strangers, just with talk of polyamory.

3-Color Coordination: I’m reorganizing my closet and weeding out what I don’t really want or wear.

  2. Things I Love Thursday:

    1. The end of my summer job…I thought the day would never come!!
    2. Walking, walking, walking; I’m taking a break from jogging because of a minor injury, but thankfully it’s not enough to make me relinquish looonng walks.
    3. Reading. Anything really, science books, Harry Potter, mysteries, whatever :)
    4. Aroound the World in 80 Days
    5. About a Boy
    6. Sunglasses and sunblock.
    7. I finally am at the point where I am enjoying my wardrobe and appreciating it and not constantly pining for something new; I buy myself the occasional new item, but overall, my closet has become incredibly well-stocked, and I’ve been spending my money on bigger and better things.

  3. 1 Atmosphere!
    2 The pixies
3 Day 6 of Raw Fu Challenge, and while I haven’t been 100% raw even though I want to be, I have had a green or pink smoothie everyday and I’m eating a delicious salad.
4 My skin is already clearing up!
5 I have a beautiful mirror in my bedroom over my desk that I got for a tenner in my local charity shop.
    6 Larabars
7 I got a £25 face cream called ‘Skin nanny’ free(!) with the special offer at lush.
8 Gala Darling. Of course, you just keep inspiring me to make my life better, make me want to be the type of person who jumps out of bed in the morning and is ridiculously excited. (Right now though, I’m having some super dense dreams that leave me groggy but it’ll pass with the detox I reckon.)

  7. Gala, it’s ace to read you’re in such an amazing place. Kudos for that!

    I love:

    1) Melbourne on a Thursday morning. There’s such a buzz as I ride the tram up Swanston Street, it’s electric, like the world knows it’s onto a good thing and the weekend’s just around the corner and that’s reason enough to be charming to the world.

    2) Listening to amazingly evocative tunes. This morning I brushed tears from my eyes as I listened to Pavarotti sing Nessun Dorma – how exquisite!

    3) Friends who see you through a (mini) break-down. I must work in the best office in the world – I lost my s#*% on Monday and spent all day questioning Life, the Universe and Everything and my colleagues were AMAZINGLY supportive, and even baked me cupcakes!

    4) That feeling of unsettledness when you know something amazing’s around the corner and if you just give a little time to yourself to sit in the uncomfortable, awesome and wonderful new things begin to come your way.

    5) Identifying your dreams and going for them!

    xx

  8. - Getting my friend into Cocteau Twins and Hanne Hukkelberg. I am most excited when I expose people to music I like and they respond positively!!!!

    - The Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter cupcake I had today – courtesy of Kickass Cupcakes, natch.

    - The Garment District – (cue music) it’s not a district, it’s a store! Anyone from the Boston area who gets that???

    - Nailpolish that looks like my nails but improved via opaque shimmer – also, my new lip stain!

    - My ‘Carpe Diem’ necklace – it doubles as a sundial. If only I knew how to work it….

    - ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT! – I am hopelessly addicted now. I hope Liza Minnelli doesn’t become my new lover…

    - Possibly going to the Sigur Ros concert – oh sweet Jesus make it happen.

    - Going to a costume party as 1/2 of a LOLCATS image – my friend and I are going as the infamous ‘i is a burito’ image. I am the kitty wrapped in a green blanket, while she wears the caption. Creative much?

  9. TiLT – and the fact that I get to actually participate on a Thursday for a change, now that Gala’s back in my time zone.

Fascinators – I found the coolest one in an op shop the other day, and just the thought of wearing it to my dull, grey, Hutt workplace makes me smile. One day I will do it, and brave the gasps of dismay from my sartorially boring colleagues.

Adult dreams – A couple of nights ago I had a dream about Lenny Kravitz, and he wasn’t wearing any pants. I will never get the image of Lenny Kravitz’s circumcised cock out of my head.

    Vince Vaughn – So funny.

Real Hot Bitches – My 80s comedy dance troupe. I never thought I would ever wear lycra in public until I became a Bitch.

  11. Planning things The society and I are planning a costumed tea-party for a dear friend who really deserves a knees-up for her birthday. The theme is suitably dark and eerie for someone born around All Hallows Eve…and that gives us lots of tricks and treats to plan.

Halloween in general My FAVORITE holiday of the year…I’ve been looking forward to it since Feb.

Listening to rants on strange topics Wether or not you should capitalise the ‘F’ in Faerie…who cares? Apparently Malik. (I do pretend to read and ignore him but he makes me laugh).

The talent I LOVE the people who read my blog and leave me messages with how amazing they are…(though I can imagine you get this x100) There are too many fabulous people in the world.

    And my no.1 thing?

Hearing people describe me It’s unsual to hear yourself summed up. In this past week I’ve been introduced to lots of people, and heard me and my life described and summarised a lot.
From ‘fantastical’ to ‘off-kilter’ I take it all as compliments and they make me laugh.

  12. Holiday excitement! in a month’s time, my boyfriend & I are spending a week on a Greek island. We did this last year, but this time we’ve got a little more moneys so we’re staying half board at a hotel rather than a self-catered apartment. Woop!

Birthday – I’m generally a bit of a birthday scrooge (everyone has one! and mine’s in summer so no one is ever around for a big crazy party) but my 22nd birthday was last Sunday and I had a FABULOUS day! We went here: www.goape.co.uk/ then came home to a bbq feast and pimms prepared by my lovely mum. Chilled out and happy.

Surprises – my boyfriend is normally broke and I’m the organised one, but next weekend for a happy birthday / happy 3 years magoogle we’re going to London for the day and I just don’t know what he’s got up his sleeve!

Appreciating the girls in my life – this year certain friendships have sprouted and blossomed and I think I’ve matured enough to understand and accept the different relationships I have with people (I used to get quite jealous of some people – why don’t I have a million friends??). I got birthday cards from four girls in partciular that made me realise just how much I love and appreciate the fabulous people that I do have.

Rounders – the game brings out a massive competitive streak in me. Love it!

Contentment – I definitely get seasonal affective disorder, so I’m really enjoying the calm and happiness that’s washed over me this summer.

  15. *** Job interviews! I’ve been unemployed for what seems like forever, but I feel like things are finally happening, and that’s a terrific feeling. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!

***Sleeping in my super soft bed at my parents house. Mmmmm.

***Joan Didion. I just read her book of essays, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, and it’s amazing!

***Taking style tips from Mad Men. I bought a black pencil skirt that goes with a tight little gray sweater…I feel curvy and sexy like Joan! ( blogs.amctv.com/mad_men_photo_… ) Now I just need a tweed skirt like that!

    ***Long talks with good friends.

    ***Delicious frozen yogurt. Mmmmm.

***Old pictures of my grandparents when they were just dating/married. They were so sweet in a great 1940’s way!

***Clearing out a bunch of my old stuff to sell at a swap meet. It’s actually painful for pack rat me, but I think it’s a good exercise. It’s good to let go.

  16. My first TiLT :)

    1. Writing in red pen in a buff-coloured notepad
    2. Eating Green & Black’s dark chocolate while reading Hamlet
    3. The sheet music section of my local library that I never noticed before
    4. Going food shopping at 2am

A little short perhaps, but still! I’m actually a little iffy at the moment because I’m having sleeping troubles; hopefully by next week I’ll be able to add ‘falling asleep in less than 2 hours’ to my list 8)

Have a lovely weekend everyone! xx

  17. First of all, Ari Gold is such a babe, so I’m gonna have to agree with you there.

    Ok, my list:

Seth Meyers: I met him while standing in a grocery store line-up in Brooklyn Heights. I’ve had a bit of a crush on him ever since he became a regular on SNL and needless to say I was more than pleased when he turned out to be as charming, intelligent and cute in person. He actually waited for me to pay so we could talk for a few minutes. Sweet celebs brighten my day.

New York: I did it Gala! I’m in New York. I’m dogsitting for a couple and staying in their apartment for a month rent free (total blessing!) and it’s this crazy whirlwind of trying to find an apartment/missing my family/loving the city/meeting new people/never wanting to sleep/being insanely exhausted etc. I just love this city.

Veronica Mars: I actually spent about 3 days watching the entire show, 3 seasons and while I felt pretty useless getting nothing done, it’s so addictive. Why do all the great shows get cancelled????

Wigs: So I went out and bought 3 wigs from a store called ‘Piggy Wiggy’ (I’m not even making this up, so cool) in pink, blonde and red for only $40 each and I love the look on peoples faces when they see me haha

Getting a manicure & pedicure: for some reason it has taken me 20 years to finally give in and get a mani/pedi. My god, I felt like a girl experiencing her first orgasm. Delight, wonder, lust for more. Who doesn’t love fab nails anyway?

  18. Happy birthday TiLT! Here’s mine:

London’s ‘awful’, rainy overcast weather. I love it so much, and it’s so nice to be back after spending a week in the Colorado sun (ick, haha).

Having TONS of time to myself. I literally live alone with two dogs right now and have no obligations, so it’s pretty self-indulgent and I’m a fan.

Wearing my glasses again. (It makes me feel smarter and like a librarian-chic babe).

The X-Files. Agent Mulder is so pretty in a cheesy-hunky way…

    Eating loads of nuts.

Being semi-academic again. Summer break was nice, but it’s good to be back to writing papers and discussing foreign policy.

Dancing! Singing! Being ridiculous with no one to look at me funny— though tomorrow I fully intend on taking my ridiculousness outside and sharing it with the world!.

    1. These cool end of winter mornings when it’s no longer freezing and you can feel that spring is just around the corner…it makes me feel as if the world is full of possibility!

    2. Being on top of my thesis and that my supervisor told me the other day that what I’ve written so far is excellent.

    3. Work. I love my job at the moment, which is the way life should be! I actually have fun there, and that makes me happy.

    4. Jurlique face wash – I just bought this on the recommendation of a friend and it smells divine and feels just as good.

*My writing class. I look forward to it each day and I’m sad it ends next week.

*Being able to balance on the train! I’ve been riding the train every day, and I haven’t fall over once. It makes me smile when I don’t need to hold on to anything. Maybe I’m not so uncoordinated as I thought.

*Looking forward to high school. There are moments when I’m scared s$#@less at the thought, but I’m excited to meet new classmates and all the new experiences…

*This list. I’ve been down these past few days, but being forced to think of good things is cheering me up.

*Having too many books to read. I’m going away in a week- I hope I can just relax and read the whole time! Oh, and shop of course.

*My room. I love lying on my bed at night and just look around. I’m finally happy with it. Although I have tons more ideas to play around with.

  31. When I was a tiny little girl I used to listen to Lullabye by Billy Joel late at night and feel all warm and safe. My Mum has always been a huge Billy Joel fan (she pinched his bum when she was 19!) and she gave me a mixed tape and an old fashioned tape player, and wow. Best memories! So thank you for adding that in there. I’m all teary!

  32. This is my first TiLT, so…I’ll try to make this good.

The East Coast- I moved to Michigan at the end of June, and I’m now visiting my brother and his wife in Massachusetts. The graveyards here are much better, and so are the roads.

My new phone- I have an LG Rumor, it’s brilliantly lime green, with a full slide out keyboard, and it’s slowly becoming my life. Getting used to typing on a keyboard with my thumbs is kind of bizarre, though.

New England Clam Chowder- I’m in New England, I love soup, and the chowder is always good here!

Mascara- I have developed a supreme appreciation for mascara lately. My lower lashes are nothing without 3 coats, and then they are FABULOUS.

My eyebrows- I shave them off and draw them on a la Amanda Palmer from The Dresden Dolls. It makes me happy.

My brother and his wife- They are the most hilarious, happy, lovely people on Earth. Living with my father makes me hate my family, and then I come here and realize why I haven’t just faded into nothingness throughout the years!

Things I don’t love right now? The latest season of Project Runway. What is up with that guy who loves tanning?

    Love,
    Katie Bird

  33. I missed writing TilT last week – out of laziness! So here goes…

Running – I’ve been trying to get back into this for a couple of months… The first few weeks of running are always torture for me, but then suddenly something clicks and it starts to be fun again! I’m not quite back up to my old distances yet but I’m starting to enjoy the time I spend running. I wear my headphones and listen to the CHEESIEST music ever when I run, like John Farnham (!) and Scissor Sisters, and lots of cock rock. It becomes my own private world of simultaneous dorkiness and fabulous physicality.

Gem Wilder’s Lenny Kravitz dream – hilarious!

Doing cross-stitch – my Gran initially taught me, then I went through a mad phase of it during a relationship break-up a couple of years ago, and now I’ve just bought an awesome new kit off ebay that I can’t wait to start! It’s such a meditative process, just passing the needle in and out of cloth for hours on end and watching the image unfold….

Dogs – so many cute local dogs in my neighbourhood! There was a guy in the winebar last Friday night with an Italian greyhound that suddenly decided it wanted to be friends with us once rillettes were brought to our table! And then there’s the incredibly smart border collie that lives about five doors down from me who is so sweet and communicative it’s almost as if he can talk! I want a dog!

  34. Happy Birthday TiLT! I believe that participating in this has really improved my overall disposition.

A week at the beach next week with the boy, his family, and his ADORABLE niece and nephews!

  36. Happy 1st Birthday TiLT!
    • Sleeping- since coming home for my week away in Melbourne last week, I have caught up on my lost sleep and finally feel like I am having a good nights sleep every night. There really isn’t anything as good as a proper nights rest in your own bed.
    • Home- Even though I had a good time in Melbourne last week seeing my friends and family, I am glad to be home. My trip last week made me realise how good I have it here- I spend hardly anytime travelling to get to work etc, and I don’t have to endure the constant rush that seems to fill Melbourne. While I love Melbourne, at this time, it is not the place for me… It’s great for a catch up with friends, shopping and food though!
    • Family- They are all very special to me and I love them all. I am very lucky to have such caring and wonderful parents and a pretty cool sister too.
    • Shopping- I had a great time in Melbourne shopping and got myself all of the lovely things that I can’t buy here at home!

  37. Oh. Darcy Clay. :(

    Happy things:

Just got home to find my new for-ballet-teaching-purposes “Mean Maori Mean” Code t-shirt. Am I the bogan-est ballet teacher ever?

Listening to 80s U2 – my man is away so I can play it (he’s sick of it). I was 14 when The Joshua Tree came out, and because of Greg Carroll and ‘One Tree Hiil’ everyone in NZ loved it. (It was the law!) I remember how fanciable Bono was in the ‘With or Without You’ video – I love a cute man with long hair! I really need to get Rattle and Hum again – I had it on tape and loved it to death.

Birthday time again, which means licking the icing bowl! (It also means my house is properly tidy in preparation for weekend party-guests.)

Being in the same timezone, nay, same island as the lovely G-Darl. Nothing like an email convo on a slow Monday morning . . . :D

I can’t believe how much I love my job!

Reading about everyone’s musical passions is SO heartwarming. I’m surprised how many people like Queen . . ! (I do, too.) Can’t believe your man Slug contacted you, Miss Gala! Whoo! “OMG palpitations”, indeed!

Chuck – ooh that sexy Yvonne in her milkmaid outfit! Swoon . . .

  44. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TiLT!

    - first, TilT, obviously. how nice it is that it has become a habit for me to log my small (and not-so-small) blessings each week!

    - an impromptu invitation leading to a trip downstate this starting this weekend to visit an old friend & then spend a few days with my boyfriend (who i haven’t seen in a month to a month and a half).

    - my job. most people would hate it, but i am enamored with it. i can dress/look the way i want, they are flexible with my schedule, my co-workers are amazingly kind and have given me a chance to meet more people on campus, they seem to value me as an employee, and they also feed us fairly often ;)

    - living by myself. it is my fifth day in my new apartment and i feel MUCH less stress then i have in a long time. i have had things simplified things a lot—i don’t own a couch yet, nor pots and pans, for example—*BUT* i am finding this way of life very liberating! i feel like it’s an adventure and challenge. plus, i am learning the generosities of others-one friend learned i didn’t have a tv (something i wasn’t too concerned about, honestly, since i grew up without one)and he brought one over by the end of the day without even asking! wow!

    - my anniversary plant (a peace lily—voted “best desk plant of 2007”?? hah)!

    - complimentary copy of a book i was thinking of borrowing from the library, on a suggestion of my mom. apparently it is the “one book, one community” book club book for my college town and that is why they were giving copies away!

    - my deep bathtub here (shower curtain being something else i haven’t bought yet)!

    - eating lots of fruit/stealing lots of fruit from the dining hall. i feel like a little squirrel :)

  47. Happy Birthday Tilt!!!

Getting letters I got a letter from my best friend who lives 3 hours away from me. We know that we can also send emails (and we do) but we both love getting post in the mail. It’s just so… old-fashioned and makes you feel loved.

My boyfriend and friends I love them to bits and they just keep surprising me with the stuff they do. Which also makes for lots of laughs.

Going to see my best friend This weekend I will get to see my best friend (the one i write the letters to). I can’t wait, I absolutely adore her and miss her to bits. Photo time.

Spending time with mum My mum lives near where my best friend lives, and I don’t see my mother as much. As I get older, we’ve gotten closer and I like spending time with her… so this weekend we are going to have a girlie weekend. Exciting much?

Assesments done I know I say this alot but it makes me really happy when I have finished an assessment and I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Making new friends I have made some new friends at work and they are really quite interesting.

Painting nails They look so good in winter to have bright nail polish on.

Finding treasures Especially the treasures that you thought to have lost and then you find them again. They are the best.

    Beautiful mentions sun shining; rainbows after storms; smiling friends; pretty pen colours; contiuning to write my story; spending class time to write back letters; pink hearts; lollipops; life; belief in angels and fairies;

  50. Today I love…

Packing with a quickness So, I’m moving from Chi City back to Michigan for a few weeks before school starts and I head back to Boston. Guh. But I packed up my little sublease so fast that I could watch Be Kind Rewind.

Homecoming by Kanye West I can relate so much right now. I love that Chris Martin talks about Lake Michigan. I’m listening to it on repeat. Also, I’m on a high from seeing him at Lollapalooza on Sunday.

Lollapalooza It was so great and I spent it with such a good pal. I loved it. I want to go to other major festivals now.

Mommsy My mother is coming with my cousin to pick me up tomorrow. I can’t wait to show them everything I found in this city, this summer.

Reflection I’m in a transition in my life, moving in with my boyfriend in the fall and trying to find out who I will be after school. Serious thinking to do. Feels good, I should journal about it all.

Starbucks Cookie I bought it a week ago and it’s still soft. A miracle, I think so.

Baby, do you remember when fireworks on Lake Michigan?

  51. i LOOOOVE

*my boyfriend. He is so unpredictedly perfect. He’s so good at everything I want to be good at, and he’s dashing.

*flying first class. There was a booking error and I got bumped up. Am I the luckiest girl in the world or what?

*friends who can drive. My friend Sidney just got her license and it’s so nice seeing her around with our friends. They’re usually such homebodies, so I’m always really excited to see them in passing.

*picnics! I went to a park before work yesterday with a boy I hadn’t seen since June and we noshed on mashed potatoes and homemade caramel and it was wicked fun and way easier (hanging out with him) than I expected.

*where I work. I’m a tutor at a local center, and it’s really comfortable and nice. I like knowing the kids and the director has been coming up with new ideas for improvement I’m totally excited about.

*being back east. It is HOT!

*my mama. I want to list her every time she is such a wonderful woman.

    *TiLT! Happy Birthday! :)

  53. I love…

Building my communication skills with my partner. We never let a communication breakdown slow us down. We’ll talk that bitch out for hours until it’s all good again.

Dying my hair I’m back to brown for job interviewing. I miss my pink hair, but I actually really enjoy brown! I feel like a ninja, because nobody is staring at me 24/7. I think I might try a natural red soon. :)

Charm bracelets I just started one. I have two charms!

Job interviews My first one is coming up soon!

Appreciative letters and gifts. I like to know that I do my job well. :)

Working up a sweat. It makes me feel like I’m not wasting my awesome bod. :P

  54. Things I love THIS Thursday…

Rick Astley: I just got back into his music after a long hiatus – such a pity he quit at the height of his fame.

Communicating with my ex: We had a long talk the other day, and we’re settled on being through for good, and just being friends.

Jane Austen: I can’t begin to tell you how much I love her, and I’m taking a whole university course on her works…love love!

My new university regime: Oh how I adore having NO computers!

Meeting interesting people in tutorials: Yesterday I met a girl from Dallas (who commented on my pink cowboy boots) and a girl who’d also lived in Southeast Asia for a few years, and travelled in Africa for a few months.

Supportive family: For the first time since my parents died, my family have been stepping up to help me.

My upcoming trip to Darwin: I get to see my boyfriend again, and for the first time since we decided that we WOULD try and make a relationship work, over 2000 miles and a month at a time between seeing each other. He’s a total sweetheart though, so it’s easy to remember the good and forget the bad about this sort of relationship!

  56. This week my loves are:

*Anthony Green’s brand new solo album, Avalon. It’s just about all I have listened to for two straight days.

*completely overhauling my room. It’s still in the “not-quite-finished” stage, but I’m getting there! Finally!

*Breaking Dawn. Yay for vampire love stories. Double yay for an author who doesn’t think happy endings are overrated.

    * This: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IlNLP…
It’s Anthony Green from Circa Survive and Casey Crescenzo from The Dear Hunter singing an AMAAAAZING cover of Bjork’s Unravel. It makes me sad, but in a really good way.

*really REALLY nice new manager at work. Hooray!

*inspiring friends, and being inspired by friends

*wandering around the neighborhood alone on a sunny morning, in a sundress, with gorgeous music filling my ears.

  57. Regarding your mention of wearing ugg boots outside…
I am currently on my lunch break, in a business suit with Uggs.
I recently had surgery on my foot and I can’t wear proper shoes yet, so I’m at work in my chocolate brown, knee high Uggs.
Its interesting to see peoples faces when they notice…half of the people in my office are jealous (I’ve never been warmer…mornings in Sydney are COLD) and the other half just look confused.
Its a great look. I like to think I’ll start a trend.

  62. So funny that it’s TiLT’s birthday. First off, I think I’ve participated in almost every week. But also, first on my list this week?

My nineteenth birthday was Monday! And I have awesome friends. I remember last year feeling like no one cared that it was my birthday. This year I have like 40 people messaging me on facebook, phone calls, emails, etc etc etc. It was a lot of fun.
My internship is almost over! Two more days of work and then I get two weeks off, hurray!
My program is going quite spiffily. I need to not take it personally when kids don’t come, because a lot of the times they just aren’t there, but today was great.
My friends basically kick ass and I love talking to them/texting them/everything about them.
    Project Runway is love. Always.
Eggs are a slight obsession lately. Not sure why. Jezebel.com keeps having these posts about breakfast food, and it’s driving me nuts! In a good way.

  63. First of all, I must say that I continue to be utterly in love with your new hair. It looks so wonderful

    The things I’m currently loving-

    1. My new job! I still can’t believe I’m getting paid to sit and play with yarn.

    2. The way my dog’s head smells.

    3. When the kitten licks the back of my head.

    4. My little local bus system. They’re so friendly, and if I start on it and then get a transfer to the bigger city system, the whole thing ends up being cheaper than if I got on the bigger city system directly. It makes me feel all cunning and sneaky, even though it’s totally legit.

    5. My husband, especially on the rare occasions I actually get to see him awake.

+Ridiculously adorable things found in my craft store [named after my dad, too!], like giant googley eyes [I’m talking bigger than quarters], jewelry parts, cute cupcake decorations including dinosaur sprinkles and edible shimmer powder, etc. etc.

    +Band things

+All of my obsenely, awesomely nerdy friends

    +Life in general

+The cupcakes I made just because and went crazy with buttercream frosting [but it’s ok, because buttercream is amazing]

+The fact that my parents just celebrated their 23rd anniversary yesterday. Seriously, 23 years and they’re still in loooooove. Isn’t that just amazing?

+The movie Reign Over Me, which is sad and sweet and heavy and named after a Who song. How could I not love it?

+Disasterville! A very cute blog, which has been added to my list of People I Must Obsess Over Daily. I love and gal who inspires me to love my inherent strangeness, to own it.

Which reminds, me, the last thing is: iCiNG! Sometimes I forget how much this place means to me, and how important what you do is. But I just remembered. The lovely nopareils here always remind me to love myself, whatever that may be, unabashedly and loudly.

  66. “Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes & choices… Today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.”

This quote completely spoke to me Gala, and I think that this has actually made my Thursday. We got the bad news earlier this week that my mum has been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer, and it’s been hard to maintain positivity in such a scary and uncertain situation. With that in mind, the things I love this Thursday are:
+My Friend M who drove all the way down from the North Shore, AKL, as soon as she found out
+All my friends that have been there for me in various ways since we found out
+My awesome lecturers and tutors at university who have released me from all attendance requirements this semester and will support me if I need to stay home with mum when she feels sick from chemo
+Witchery… the clothing label. In love, seriously. Will be the beginning of my new skinny-me wardrobe.
+Small children on the train… they get so excited!
+My friend S who is visiting me at work tonight and bringing dark chocolate…
+My beautiful mum who is determined to fight this thing and come out a winner.

  72. Things I Love Thursday:

Caipirinhas. I got turned on to them by a friend of mine. They’re pure Brazilian alcoholic deliciousness, and I adore them. To make one, you slice half a lime into four wedges, then place them along with two teaspoons of Muscovado sugar into an old-fashioned glass, mashing them together with a wooden spoon or muddler if you have one. Finally, fill the glass with crushed ice and 1⅔ fl oz of cachaça, which is made from sugarcane juice just like rum. Add just a drop of pomegranate syrup if it tickles your fancy and serve.

My new Luella miniskirt. It’s buttercream yellow denim fabulousness, and clashes perfectly with pretty much everything I own. Today I wore it with my thrift-store cobwebby cardigan (pinned all over with a bunch of oversized safety pins) my sister’s blue United Colors of Benetton boots. So much fun!

My sister. She’s five years older then me and is a graphic designer-cum-home decorator, though the homes she decorates are usually the apartments of her arty friends. She has my mom’s massive blue eyes and luminous skin, lucky goose, and calls me every single day driving in her little, beat-up car. Oh, and she lets me borrow her clothes for months at a time. How could you not love her?

  73. - Jason Schwartzman in The Darjeeling Limited. I love his moustache and his flippy hair and his shortness. “I love you too but I’m going to mace you in the face!!” (Honourable mention: Adrien Brody’s nose)

    - Losing my lovehandles

    - Fleet Foxes. Heard them on David Letterman the other day and now I’m obsessed. Especially Mykonos and Meodowlarks

    - The ice cream man’s stubble

    - Not being a freshman anymore/ Thinking up cruel things to do to the new freshmen :)

  77. Happy Birthday TiLT

Coworkers Or more specifically, all the cute college student girls that have been working with me this summer. They have really made work so much better. Unfortunately, they are all going back to school soon.

Santogold I just heard her for the first time today and I really love it already! “Say Aha” is a fun song.

My iPhone I just keep loving it more and more.

Keeping a positive attitude Even after applying for jobs for a year now and only getting one (!) interview, I’m really trying to keep a positive attitude.

Planning trips I have a couple of trips in mind, although I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to take them.

  78. wearing a new perfume (!!!), leaving work early, brownies at ten o’ clock at night, over-sized jackets, catching up with old friends, packing for an exciting trip, stuffed cloth fruitcakes, starting a new journal, writing in loopy cursive, affirmation notes, an email inbox full of love notes, the Mamma Mia! soundtrack (yes, again!), and a comfortably messy room…that I will soon clean up :)

  79. I love TiLT soooo much… Funny, I just started doing it on my blog today, and I’m going to make all my students do it as soon as school starts in a few weeks!

    my list:

Omiyage, Wagashi, and Matcha!! (gifts, sweets, and tea!)

    My Bath (love love love)

FRIENDS (when is a week when we DON’T love our friends?)

Helpful people! (Even when you don’t speak the same languages, your actions say much much more!)

    Learning (and growing)

Oh, TiLT. You are so wonderful (and of COURSE Gala, you rock for birthing TiLT. Do you feel maternal pride? It’s like TiLT just graduated school or something. Celebrate!)

  80. I’ve only recently found this blog (thanks to my best friend Candi ::HUGE GLOMPING HUGGLES:: if she’s reading!) and this is my first post: seems to be an appropriately special occasion for it!

    Things I love:

Tim Tams & Tea (I don’t care if it’s bad for me, I can’t stop and it makes me melt with bliss)

The smell of air just after it’s rained (which was just now!)

My degree & my subjects (so perfect for me! I did Life Drawing last night for the first time – amazing experience)

Uni students (I make so many connections with people I would otherwise never find; the friendships I’ve made in the past 7 months are amazing – love uni!)

My mum! (for her constant advice and support even though we’re hundreds of K’s away from each other!)

  82. It’s the first time i’m also putting the list on my blog! woohoo! i made a special poster, please do check it out, gala! sweetfancytreat.blogspot.com/2…

    My list:

1.Atmosphere: I’m listening to their songs all day long, and I already know a great deal of the lyrics by heart. Too bad I couldn’t rap them myself though, haha. I like the stories in their songs. Really cool! My favourites are Puppets and Shoulda Know with the speakers turned to maximum.

2.Pink nailpolish: Is all the rage especially now since my skin is, uhmmm, two shades darker from the tan I got on vacation. It makes a nice contrast. The same effect with the cherry red hue.

3.My family, especially my mom and cat : Mom because she’s the absolute best. My cat because I didn’t realise that I missed him until we brought him back home. He’s meow-ing all the time and keeps trashing around my closet trying to find a place to sleep, but I love him.

4.Prim magazine: Because it’s beyond awesome. And because I’m in it.

5.Marilyn hair mask from Lush: It worked wonders on my hair, protecting it from excessive sunrays exposure. It is a great way to give your hair a nice & good nourishing treatment. Plus, it makes the color more intense.

6.Eating cocoa cake in front of the TV: It is just so GOOD!

7.Radiohead: You should really listen to their In Rainbows album. It’s fantastic! I love 15 steps, Nude and Weird Fishes Arpeggi.

8.Peaches: I don’t remember ever having something like a favourite fruit, but these days I realised if I had to name one, I’d choose the peach anytime.

9.Autumn jackets: I already bought two, but hey, why stop there? I just set foot in the city again, but spotted this great jacket I just had to get. I suppose you can’t have enough jackets, right?

10.Wearing grey and soft pink: It is one of my favourite color combo. Still, I won’t give up my purple addiction. Oh, and this ring I’m wearing all the time.

11.Photography (but of course) & going through photos from the vacation:)

I cannot freakin’ wait until The Stand Ins comes out!

    2. Sending Mix CD’s

To my best friends back home, in funny handcrafted packages with huge long letters.

    3. Listening to New Music

With a family friend who is very knowledgeable, we spend hours sitting and listening and drinking tea.

    4. My Charm Bracelet

Which has grown quite a bit lately, Means I’m doing heaps of new stuff!

    5. New Friends

Never thought I was any good at making friends until I moved to a new city, now I have lots. I feel proud for pushing myself out of my comfort zone to meet new people, and charm them into hanging out with me.

Happy Birthday TiLT, can’t believe it’s been a whole year!

  85. Blowing soap bubbles. Gifts from friends (two hats and gloves). The scent of basil. The movie “8 Women” by François Ozon. The rain (it was so hot for the last few days and suddenly it poured this night !). Good books. “Le Canard Enchaîné”, a French satirical newspaper which makes me snicker like mad. My boyfriend being in New York – I miss him but I know he’s having a very good time so I’m happy! Besides, it allows me to do exactly what I want at the time I want, instead of having to compromise with his own schedule.

  86. happy birthday TiLT!!

    - The ‘awful’ traffic this morning. It usually takes me about 40 minutes to get to school, today it took almost 2 hours! I was on the bus for over an hour!! I loved it! I missed the first period of school & got to chat away to an awesome friend who I don’t see much alllll morning!

    - Melbourne Central train station during the after school rush hour. You never know who you’ll see! I always bump into old friends, see cute boys reading the same Harry Potter as me, secretly listen in on strangers conversations… :D

    - Recruiting my friends for the Cupcake Day for the RSPCA. I know my friends are good people, but it’s great to see them so keen to help out! On Sunday week we will be whipping up a zillion different kinds of mouth-watering cupcakes! Can’t wait!

    - Sitting on my heater with a blanket and a good book.

    - My photography class & my dad’s old camera. I’ve been snapping away like crazy & it’s so much fun!

    - My pleasant surprise at how many things I’m coming up with :).

    - Putting my bedside table on the other side of my bed! It gives my room a whole new feel, especially when I’m in bed & have the lamp on. I like seeing familiar things in a different light.

I’m so glad I did TiLT today! I feel simply peachy now :D.

  91. 10 things that I’m grateful for this thursday evening:

    1. totally rocking at a job interview AND a presentation for school.
    2. meeting a musician, a fantasy writer/philosopher/social worker, a deaf construction worker, and a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic barista who loves star trek as much as I do all in one week at the coffee shop down the road.
    3. resilience in the face of disappointment after my plans and hard work to spend a semester in costa rica fell through at the last moment.
    4. posting ridiculous craigslist ads with a good friend. “sassy, voluptuous blonde and slim, sophisticated brunette seek one rustic and charming gentleman to share boatrides and cigars with”

  94. First off, I love TiLT! Though I haven’t been doing it very long, it’s a ton of fun thinking up all the things that made me happy this week. So this week, I also love:

My friends- Dear god yes. This here’s a shout-out to Katie, Sophie, Lizzie, Ariel, Melanie, Conner, Sebastien, and Stuart. Dear god you guys are my heroes for sticking with me over god-knows-how-many years.

The Guitar- I own a tiny little 3/4 guitar that’s like a ukulele in disguise. It makes the most adorable music.

Atmosphere- I’ll admit Gala… You got me obsessed!

    Vintage Clothes

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

    Maltese dogs

    Roller Rinks

    Shakespeare in the Park

    Dallas, Texas

Having sex for the first time- Yep, I did it for the first time ever on Monday… And have been doing it a lot since! It’s been like a knot in my chest for these past few weeks, and it’s finally all come unraveled and I feel great!

    Luna Moths

Watching movies in a great big pile of pillows

    Honorable mentions:
Political protests, flowy pants, disney princesses, broadway musicals, Avenue Q, wig styling, watercolor paints, and the following quote:

“Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn’t hear the music.” -Maya Angelou

  96. I don’t normally do TiLT, though I often do an unofficial one in my journal, but I’ve had a rather exciting week which I think is deserving of a proper TiLT.

Well yesterday, me and one of my bestie’s Ali, as well as our other bestie Jen finally through the Mad Hatters Tea Party Fundraiser me and Ali have been organizing for the Notre Dame Fremantle Education Society, which we are members of. And this is my TiLT for the week leading up to and including the fundraiser

    Fisrt Off
    -*Spending Time With My Bestie*
I spent Friday Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights at Ali’s place (in Gidgegannup, which is in the hills in Perth and extremely cold, but awesome neways).

-*Discovering how to make Fondant Flowers*
We spent all Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday making Fondant Flowers at Ali’s house, with some help from her family (thank god her mum is so awesome and was happy to help us out with the Tea Party). And a family friend of theirs Bev, who has a cup cake buisness came and helped us out on Sunday.

    -*Making 600 Cupcakes*
On Monday and Tuesday Me, Ali, Jen, Ali’s Family, and Bev, rented out the Scouts and Guides hall in Mt. Helena, and we made about 600 cupcakes for our Fundraiser (thats including the duds, from when we were getting used to the oven, and the one box of 18 which was dropped and donated to the family to eat instead :) so we only actually had 571 for the fundraiser. It was more than even Bev had made before. (it wasn’t all cupcake baking though we had 4 under 4’s there, so we watched them as well, which i found just as fun as the cupcakes)

    -*Dressing Up*
We had the fundraiser yesterday and dressed up Mad Hatters Tea Party Style. Ali was Alice (as thats her real name), I was The Queen Of Hearts, Jen was The Mad Hatter, and our other friend in the Ed Society Naomi was the white Rabbits, though we did have a toy Doormouse, none of the boys dressed up :(

    -*Selling the Cupcakes*
We had our stall at uni, and managed to sell all but 130 cupcakes which was pretty good, as most people didn’t think we’d even sell 400. Lecturers love their cupcakes though. and the spare cupcakes were sent to various people’s works today to be sold so it was all good. We got praises from most people who bought one saying it was the best cupcake they’d ever had, so it was very nice.

    Last But definitely not least
-*Raising money for a good cause*
All the profits of our hard work go to buying resources for remote West Aussie schools, so it makes the whole experience, not only did we get to have fun dressing up, making cupcakes, and hanging out, we got to do some good for kids in need. Though the whole experience was very tiring and i don’t think I’d do it again, i could probably sleep a week if i could :)

    thats all for now
    hugz and kisses
    M

  97. - Getting an early start, and using the spare time before I go to work for something useful! Like the cleaning I know I cannot be bothered with when I come home from work! My apartment has never looked better!

    - Making houserules, so the place does not end up a stinkin’ mess.

    - Not being broke any more, since I came back from London and New York (in June)! So I bought a nice dress and a Pro Flickr account, yay!

    - Not taking offence when people critisize me, but instead accept it, review it, and try to change if it something worth changing!

    - Planning my birthday party! Who to invite, what to wear, drinks, playlist, WHERE to have it! So many of my friends don’t care about their birthdays, but I have always thought it was something to celebrate. If not for me, then at least it is as good an occasion as any to get together with the people you like the most and have a good time! Why shouldn’t you celebrate life? Yourself? Your friends?

    - Playing tetris at work, haha.

    - Um, you, Gala! I think I have a real girl crush on you. I even had a really nice dream about you a while ago, which feels a bit weird to admit!

  107. Get this podcasts.
I’ve been working in a crappy office the past few weeks and as soon as I get there, I chuck on my massive headphones and crank up a podcast. The day goes much faster – though I do have to stop myself from laughing constantly out loud.

    My boyfriend
After having a series of massively shit days at work, he was able to cheer my up almost immediately. I went from being deliriously tired and on the constant verge of tears to being calm and confident and not giving a shit. We lay in bed cuddling and as he put it – it really put things in perspective. Theres no point wasting time worrying and getting upset about work (or other things) when theres cuddles and love in the world.

    Breakthroughs
Realising that I don’t want a normal job and want to be able to get to a point where I work for myself and do freelance jobs from out of my home or my own office.
I’m working so hard to get there. SOON!

    Planned trips
Going to Sydney with the boy next weekend. I grew up there but he’s never been. I’m going to show him the sights and he can meet all my friends and family.
We also have a trip to Japan planned for when I save up the last bit of money I need.

Other notables – homemade pizza, Ben Folds (his new song Hiroshima makes me giggle every time), money in my bank account, making stuff, kisses, being social, phone calls from the boy when he’s waiting for a train home each night and just wants to say hi.

    Today, I’m loving…

+ “I’m A Cyborg”. It is one of the best movies i have seen in a while, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes odd, quirky-but-oh-so-cute films!

+ the exam results have finally arrived!! and i did good :)

    + System of a Down. A-mazing band. Such a shame they’re no longer…

+ Seeing friends I haven’t seen in weeks! Big squeals!

    Happy Birthday, TiLT!

  109. Oh wow, has it really been a whole year??!! I don’t think I’ve ever actually posted my TiLT list here before, but I’ve been keeping my own TiLT book since I discovered this site, which is almost a year ago and I’ve decided that because it’s TiLT’s birthday, I will post my list here this time!
—lying on my bed in a dimly lit room with incense burning and listening to beautiful music
—lovely emails from people I love
—regular exercise and eating well; I’ve been doing it for 3 weeks now and I can’t believe I’ve kept it up for this long! It’s making me feel so much better, inside and out
—feeling accomplished; I’ve always been a big one for making all these lists and plans, but never following through, but lately I have actually been doing the things I write down and after I’ve done it, I just feel so good and happy and pleased with myself!
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TiLT!!! XXX

Looking forward to reading everything I’ve missed when I get back from Yorkshire; Alice in Wonderland; dimples; Kate Nash’s ‘Skeleton Song’; Sara Bareilles; Ida Maria’s ‘I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked’; painting rooms; designing; Sex & The City; anticipation; bright, solid colours; changing my life; Gay Pride (even though I didn’t go).

  111. I’m going to try to not make this all girlfriend related but, what can I say, she’s amazing.

    Things I’m loving….

<3 The fact that during an IM conversation with my girlfriend yesterday, she ran outside to stand in the rain and take photos for me.

<3 My awesome new skirt. It looks like some sort of school skirt and makes me think of her >> http://www.buzznet.com/www/search/photos/Lyn-Z/?p=9&id=55737221

<3 My new clothes, bandana and necklace.

    <3 This band: http://www.buzznet.com/www/search/photos/Mindless/?p=32&id=54962971#pagesubnav
Also the fact that I’m going to see them for the fifth time in a couple weeks. Setting off from my house at 3am for a five hour journey and then waiting from around 8:30 until about 19:30. I’m so excited!

<3 My new really bright, fire-engine red lipstick!

    <3 My girls incredible eyes.

<3 The fact that while I was looking for those pictures up there, I found a photo of my friend with a band member on Buzznet! She’s lost her copy of the picture so she’s gonna be so happy!

<3 My new electric blue nail polish.

<3 HOT TEA WITH SOYA MILK! Yummy!

<3 My girlfriend telling me last night that when it was raining yesterday and every time she locks her door at night when it’s rainy, she thinks about kissing me in the rain. Awwww.

<3 The fact that I might be going to see The Koolaid Electric Company soon.

<3 Deep Heat- Heat Rub. I have a lot of muscle problems, especially with my back and shoulders, and that stuff feels so nice.

<3 Planning to leave home next year. I’m so excited.

<3 The fact that I’m possibly getting a moped in a few months. Yay!

<3 Kettle Chips, particularly the sweet chilli ones, and Green and Black’s mint chocolate. Mmmm.

Wow, there was actually more than I expected!

  113. Ahhhh practicing social skills is also something I love. And the thing you said about seeing how much fabulousness you can extract from someone—it’s so true! I am always amazed by how kind, caring, and willing to go the extra mile other strangers can be if you just extend a friendly attitude in their direction!! :) So ok. I also got an email from a semi-celebrity music crush this week! His name is Chad Perrone, he’s from my home city of Boston. :) Must be something in the air!

My TiLT is on my blog but here’s a quick recap!

    - Hipster coffee shops with friends

    - Outdoor theatre

    - Bon Iver, the band

    - Cajun Shrimp, the OPI nail color

    - That funny or die video Paris Hilton did, actually quite clever and funny!!

♥ Friends. What would I do without them? They keep me constantly laughing, I love them!
♥ Playing dress up with someone else’s closet.

  115. + Free time, free time and more free time — With my boyfriend here, it never gets old. We sleep all day, we go to coffee shops and read, we hang out and watch Top Gear, and sit side-by-side checking our sites on our iPods. Still another week of this to go!

+ Good friends & beer — Well, the latter is optional, but brings out the best of the banter! My friends are awesome, & after a year of only vague text messages and birthday cards, I appreciate them all the more.

+ Reading — I used to (& if I’m completely honest, still do!) have a really bad habit of buying books and then leaving them unread for months on end. Lately I’ve been reading lots and it’s really inspired me to write. It’s becoming a seriously expensive habit — by this time next week I hope to be loving having joined a library.

    + TiLT’s First Birthday — Self-explanatory, really.

    6. Dove Go Fresh body wash (the waterlily one).
    7. Huge colourful posters around my PC!
    8. Boiled lollies…
    9. Scented candles of all shapes, sizes and flavours!
    10. Getting excited about being happy. Seriously not something to overlook or underrate, and something I used to not value at all. :D

  117. I seem to keep putting the same/similar things on TiLT…I guess the same things consistently bring me joy! Such as…

    - reading Lonesome Dove (I am so glad there are prequels & sequels! I’ll get to keep reading this series for like ever!)

    - swimming in the lake my parents’ live on, where I grew up, the way the lake smells, and my awesome, beautiful bathing suit – it’s all retro-style with big hot pink cabbage roses, I believe it’s by Isaac Mizrahi for Target.

    - that my faith in the Universe, etc was strong enough to find the perfect apartment in my soon-to-be new town, and exercising that same faith and trust to find my dream job!

    - humping my boyfriend before we get out of bed first thing in the morning!

That I have gotten to drive a super cool rental car for almost a whole week, all by myself.

I am dropping off and picking up my man in said car so I get to see him more often.

I photographed Deadly Seven on Saturday and they rocked my world! ( Again, link to follow soon on my blog)

That I am rethinking and revamping the blog, again…

  125. Yay, happy birthday, TiLT!

    - Painkillers + Positive outlook = No misery –

I just had my wisdom teeth removed, but It really isn’t so bad. I can’t chew, but the foods I have to eat all happen to be ones I like, such as milkshakes and instant mash potatoes. I’m still feeling happy and great, despite the surgery, thanks to the medication and keeping my thoughts on the bright side.

    - The nurse who gave me the anesthesia –

He is a pretty cool guy. I wish I hadn’t been so scared because now I can’t rememember his name. I was so nervous about the needle injected anesthesia he had to give me, because I had a really bad experience with it when I was eight, that it alone was what scared me about the whole surgery. Not a good way to start off :D

I knew I wouldn’t be able to open my mouth very wide , much less chew, and my cheeks would bloat out like a frightened pufferfish’s after the operation. Pain and bloatyness aside, all that scared me was the five seconds it took to stick a needle into a vein on my left arm.

But, he was funny and very good at it (as he said, he could find a vein in a mannequin)so it went very well. This time the needle only stung slightly, and he found a vein on the first try, which was totally different from my original experience where the nurse kept sticking me with the needle because she couldn’t get to one.

I wish I hadn’t been so out of it (the anesthesia hadn’t fully worn off yet) when I left the building. I don’t even remember getting into the car, I just know my mom drove me home and somehow I ended up sitting at the kitchen table. If I hadn’t been feeling like a zombie, I would have told him thank you!

    - My mom and dad –

My parents have been really nice to me about this surgery, going out of their way to get things to make me feel comfortable, like food that doesn’t involve chewing and medication at 5:30 am. Mom even made me her chocolate mousse, which is amazing, as a treat because I couldn’t eat much due to the stitches.

Technically, since I appreciate them all the time even when we start to bother each other, I should put my family up on every TiLT.

    - Rocky and Bullwinkle –

I’ve always loved this show, but I mention it now because i’ve been watching a lot home while recovering. It always makes me laugh. Hurray for these DVD collections!

  141. Happy TiLT-birthday! :DD

Last night I came up with a whole boatload of gratefulness as I was walking home from work, so I’ve gotta summon that all up again!

    - Sunsets and sunrises. Not only does the air feel perfect during these times, but we get a spectacular view, as well! It’s like someone just painted a picture on the sky every time, just for me.

    - The passenger seat. It was only after my car accident on the 4th of July that I realized how much I liked driving around… but not being the one driving lol I enjoy myself so much just listening to chill music and staring dreamily at the clouds!

    - Imagining what other people are doing across the globe. Right now, someone I know rather painfully well is in California for “family vacation” and it just suddenly hit me. I wonder what he’s doing right now! Have they encountered my friend Brianna at Disneyland as she works? Are they driving by one of my family members’ houses?

    - Gloomy days. They make me so happy! Especially down here in New Orleans, around all those oak trees and greenery… overcast and black skies always make them stand out so much better! The gloom makes things so beautiful, and it’s not gloomy for me at all!

    - Conventions. I went to Mechacon this weekend and had SO. MUCH. FUN.

    - The smell of hotels

    - Meeting new people for random reasons and becoming INTENSELY close to them, and forever adding them to your legion!

    - The Big D Podcast (‘nuff said)

great evening after a bad day (shoe shopping, drinks with boyfriend, and most of all – we’ve found a garden that’s lit up by 6 colourful ligts and has 6 disco balls , it’s amazing and we sure will sneak in next time :))

the fact that i’m leaving for the mountains for the weekend, it will certainly do me good (the lake, the mountains, the exercise…) after a week of lazying around the house and stuffing myself with food

being home alone and (re)discovering my father’s cd collection, loving his 70s rock albums (seriously how great are led zepplin!), but also the fact that he has many many other genres in his collection too.

Planning my wardrobe I’ve been guilty of impulse buying in the past, but I’ve recently become totally focused on the things I really want-and they keep coming to me like magic!

Marching band Yes, I am a nerd.

Being a senior I’m terrified but also SO EXCITED!! I’m almost free!!!

Austin, TX It keeps hitting me, how lucky I am to live here; AMAZING vintage shopping, museums and music 24/7.

Fate I’d been looking desperately for some aqua-hued nail polish for months, and was starting to give up hope. But today, while trying to get my iPod serviced at the mall, I walked into Claire’s on a whim and found THE PERFECT SHADE...it literally cost ONE CENT. Holy guacamole!

my parents and everything they’ve done for me
the best burrito i have ever eaten in my life
    wearing tiaras in public
    my neighbor totoro
    lace slips
    waking up early (for me)
going out to eat with my friends
    feeling better
having a car in the city
the two great weekends coming up
bumming around for the rest of august
pad thai, spring rolls and sticky rice
seeing old movies on the big screen for free because of my boyfriend’s job
talking to my mom on the phone
    repairing friendships that were rocky
    origami stars
all my friends getting free champagne tonight because it was someone’s birthday

  146. I have a late TiLT but still – better late than never!
New shoes and dress I have grand plans for the both of them! Oh yes =D
New walking routine I’ve started walking for about half an hour in the evenings, and I feel much better for it already!
Longer evenings it’s not dark at 5pm when I leave work – it’s lovely driving home with the sun still up =)

I love: going home for the weekend, Green & Black’s ginger chocolate, cups of coffee/glasses of wine and loooong chats and general hilarity, exciting days and uni, sushi, that the sunshine is back, plotting and planning and crazy cats!!

  148. It’s Things I Love Friday for me because I missed yesterday, but still…

    1. Baking – I made a lovely Italian chocolate bread with my mum yesterday and it is delicious :D It’s so much fun watching the thing you’ve worked on take shape (and take shape on your hips once you’ve eaten it :P)

    2. Overcoming self-doubt – a little bit, anyway. I always used to wear no make-up, just a bit of Vaseline (I have to or my lips just get really sore) and I always thought of myself as a plain kind of girl, with no real fuss. Recently I’ve been experimenting with eyeliner, nail polish and the occasional dab of red lipstick and I’ve been wondering if I was betraying my old ways of thinking or if I was just trying to paint over the cracks (you can’t polish a turd, as it were). But now I feel happier about it. I’m still me, and I “paint” myself to feel good, sometimes even when I’m in the house alone so I know it’s for me and no one else. Oops, bit of an essay there, but it’s something that’s really meant a lot to me, so there you go.

    3. New perfume – I bought Daisy by Marc Jacobs and Maitresse by Agent Provocateur today. I am wearing the latter now and I feel great :D

    4. Being at home – Regular access to my boyfriend, being able to do fun things with my mum and sister and less pressure from all sides generally.

And an honourable mention to my new underwear – makes me feel good from the inside out :)
