Things I Love Thursday
[ 14 November 2008 ]

Missouri! It’s pretty neat, actually. I really didn’t know what to expect before I came here, but it’s been really interesting & a lot of fun. It is so, so different to the coasts, & has been a major eye-opener. All kinds of exciting things have happened, from meeting a nonpareil in the street in Columbia (!), to having a girl tell me I reminded her of a Barbie she once had, to being yelled at by an impatient Taco Bell drive-thru customer! Everyone I’ve met has been super-nice, too (well, with the exception of the woman who got all malignant over her burrito!). It’s been pretty chilly, but I’ve been wearing my new favourite hoodie & it’s kept me very warm!
City Museum —This deserves its own mention. We went yesterday & had so much fun! It’s hard to describe, but basically it’s this insane building that you can climb all over & discover. There are caves & 7 foot slides, huge bank vaults & aeroplanes high above the ground. There’s also an awesome little sideshow area where we took oldschool b&w photobooth strips, & I heeded the wisdom of a mechanical fortune teller. Ahh, it was so cool!
New York! For all the excitement of Missouri — hee — I’m looking forward to going home today. It’s a bit sad though too, because on Tuesday I leave for New Zealand! It has seemed like such a short trip! There are so many things I’d like to do before I leave — like ice-skating! — especially since I’m not sure exactly when I’ll be back! (Sob!) Early 2009, for sure, but I don’t have any dates set in stone yet. But I do still love love love New York, & I am looking forward to seeing its sweet face again.
New Zealand anticipation! Yup. I am starting to get excited about going back to NZ. I’m going for the Christmas/summer period, & I’m so happy about getting back into some warm weather! Eeeeeeeee! I think I’ve said it before, but cool temperatures just aren’t my thing, so I avoid them. Haha. Anyway, NZ will be good. My parents just renovated their entire house so I’m really looking forward to seeing it, & odds are fairly high that I’ll be making a trip up to Auckland some time within the next couple of months too. It will be nice to see all my strangely-accented friends, haha!

British Vogue (December) It appeared in my hands as if by magic on Saturday night & I spent a good half an hour flicking through it, audibly squeaking with rapture & having to take pauses to put my hand on my forehead. Seriously. It was dramatic! So you know that I mean it when I say that this is the BEST ISSUE OF VOGUE, from ANY country, that has come out in a long time, & you would be a complete fooligan to miss out. They call this the “fantastic fantasy fashion” issue & oh boy, do they deliver. There is a Roald Dahl-themed photoshoot shot by Tim Walker, for god’s sake! Get that sweet toosh of yours down to your local magazine shop & snap it up! It is glorious.

Vampires — Aahahah. Well, last week I went to see Let The Right One In, which was awesome, & it has really only gotten worse since then. On Tuesday, I bought a second-hand copy of Sundays With Vlad from this teeny but awesome bookshop in Columbia, & ended up having a weird conversation about blood-sucker culture with the woman behind the counter. & then… Timmy bought me fangs. HAHA. I am almost embarrassed to admit it. I haven’t worn them yet, but they are so hilarious. Way to be ridiculous, Gala!
Honourable mentions: Magical thinking; big bottles of kombucha; FOUND magazine; doing the right thing for my body; dangling upside down; Prince; seeing my first real teepee!; ridiculous jingles; drinking pumpkin spice soy lattes while searching through radio stations; staining hotel room pillows pink; invitations to Florida; um okay this is so gross but spicy chicken crunchwraps from Taco Bell are sooooo good; listening to Wham! in hotel rooms; thinking about fun new projects; having my feet rubbed; going to super-Walmart at 2 in the morning; cuddlin’; smoochin’.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.
Okay beautiful — how about you? Tell us the best parts of your week!
Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala ![]()

w0w! Im the first to comment! This is my TiLT List:

I agree with you wholeheartedly on the vogue issue! I have it too and it is fabulous.
All i can think about this thursday is the fact that I bought a car! A Honda Jazz – it is so nippy, cute and comfy! I love the freedom my man and I have now – no more lugging heavy bags around from the supermarkets!
Also, my mum is getting a puppy!!!!! His name is Jasper and he’s a tri-colour shetland sheepdog! I can’t wait to meet him – I love dogs to bits and this will make me happy forever!
I am so happy :) life is awesome! Car and puppy = good times.
OK so I’ll miss out LOADS because there are just too many things I love! But here are a few:
-the responses to the last post! I LOVE looking at all of the happy pictures!! I can’t get enough!!!
-mushy peas
-my boyfriend, sister, mum and dad (I got to see them last week because it was my birthday and it made me SO happy! I miss them!)
That’s all for now… really I have tons… but these ones I really love right now!! (the boyfriend and family I love always of course!)
OH and I love you! All of you! Gala and co! You are AMAZING!!!
-Politics: When I got out of school, I made a solemn promise to myself that I would get in politics while in the university. This week we’re voting for the alumni center and I got into the “opposing” list! YAY! The people in the list are super nice and rebellious and against the close minded leaders we’d had the last two
years. I like being in the left side of the spectre :P
-My classes will end tomorrow! Wohoooooooo
-Watching my nephew dancing (he’s 1 1/2 years old). He dances all the time, to all music styles, though he likes Kyle Minogue more. How cool is that?
-The harem pants I bought in Seville; perfect for the summer and very original!
For being a Missourian, it’s sad to say I’ve never been to, much less heard of the City Museum.
I’m really glad you are enjoying yourself here though :D!
If you ever get the chance—Go Spelunking!!We have pretty awesome caves all around here.
The best part of my week: Everyone at work commenting how cute my coat is (which was under $10,no less). I’m smitten with Bitten, haha. Here’s a link:
blog.buffalostate.edu/fashion/...
oo I have to buy that vogue!!
ugh I have such an obsession with magazines
I also need to buy this months issue of Vanity Fair as it has a spread on Twilight! oo which links to your vampire obsesion haha
You MUST read it!! its unbelivable how addictive it is, I loveee it.
Oh the joys of Saint Louis. Have you discovered the Arch yet? I mean, it is quite hard to miss, but for a small fee of…well, something small, you can get a great view of the city from the top.
I grew up in Saint Louis and they didn’t build the City Museum until after I left. It’s a wonderful thing, isn’t it? I think it was an old shoe factory. In any case, it’s probably the coolest thing ever.
In the way of TiLT?
Chicago: riding the El from one end to the other just to get the best view of the city; thrift stores on state street; waking up and realizing you have two hours left of glorious sleep; kate nash and her lovely british lullabies; new clothes and clean rooms; and last but certainly not least—nice smelling boys.
I was so excited about meeting you in Columbia on Tuesday! It was an awesome surprise.
Courtney — Aw, I’m not going to have time… I’m going back to NYC today!
Aimee — I ordered Twilight in a big batch of stuff on Amazon but I got an email the other day saying that my order was going to arrive after I leave for NZ, so I had to cancel. Sad! I am going to pick up Twilight before I leave the States, though, & read it on the plane :>
molly — We went to the Arch last night but it was going to take an hour to get to the top, & we had to go to the airport to pick someone up! So it didn’t happen. But I did go to the museum in there about the wild wild west, haha, it was cute!
yes yes, we went to the city museum over the summer, it really is magical! we had shoelaces made in the shoelace factory too!
Andrea — I was excited about you too! You’re super-cute!
Heh, I was one step ahead here Gala! Put my list up this morning!!
fashion
PS-The city museum is amazing! Definitely my favorite attraction back home. Columbia is great, but St. Louis is where my heart is. You should visit the zoo, botanical gardens, and Delmar while you’re there!
Well, it’s kind of rainy here so I can’t say the weather right now, but I started keeping a list so I would be all prepared this week:
Pin-up Disney Gals – These are so great, sexy, amazing – www.flickr.com/photos/16422686
Mashed avacado on toasted seed bread – vegan and so delicious!
Raking leaves on a crisp sunday morning – while the chickens run around in yard
New Podcast books – to listen to in the car
Facebook – I resisted but am enjoying connecting with old work friends and seeing their far away silly antics. Feel free to add me! www.facebook.com/people/Poochi…
Happy Thursday!

Ooh thanks for the reminder about Let the Right one in. I saw the author speak last year at the Brisbane writers festival, thought – i so want to read that (the guy went on about his love of The Smiths & Morrissey & it has vampires, how could i not?).
Had my birthday soon after a friend who had no idea i wanted that particular book, but who knew my love of vamps bought it for me :D.
I’m looking forward to the movie as i’m hoping it will be less gory…For the sensitive soul that i am (why do i like vampires again ;p?).
Oh my, i might have to buy Vogue just for the Roald Dahl themed shoot

Today. Wow, it been a while (two weeks) since I have been thankful….
1. Catching up with old friends. I had a falling out with a friend and we have made up. We are making the best of it. We hit the clubs and a few parties.
2. Knowing my worth. I have been trying to make this guy see how much fun I am. But I realized, it wasn’t worth it. I know how fun I am and he is missing out. I think he likes shallow girls, too bad, I am much too deep for him.
3 Movies that are recommended by my secret library crush. “On The Waterfront”.
4. Sleep. I love it.
5. Buddy Holly. I got a cd from the library, and he is great!
6. Rebekah O’Neil. I love you. I think you are a person. I am thankful everyday that we get to spend together.
7. Learning. It never too late to learn to walk in high heels. Still trying, but I will get it someday soon.
I think I’m getting the hang of it….now.
arthur russell – only just discovered him, and oh my goodness. his music is so good.
good food – i really miss it now that i’m at university and am living in catered accommodation. university food is just horrible.
postcards – anything in the post really. but postcards are good because they’re like a window to another place.
torquay at night – really i’m all about ANYWHERE BUT HERE right not, but torquay at night is beautiful and i wish i was there.
I might actually remember to write one in my blog on time today! But for now:
-we found a two week old abandoned kitten who is THE cutest thing EVER. I’m proud of myself because I didn’t think I’d have it in me to bottle feed him every couple of hours and sometimes get peed on, but it’s worth it when he starts purring and snuggles me. It also makes me appreciate our other cat more hahaha. Here’s a picture of Wesley (we decided to name him Wesley because our other cat’s name is Giles…we’re not even sure it’s a he yet but oh well!):
www.flickr.com/photos/declined…
-my and my fiance’s anniversary was on Tuesday!
-I got my new boots which I LOVE.
-I also got a cashmere sweater for TWO DOLLARS. so soft.
-and I got put on the day shift at work so I won’t have to work 2-10:30 and have ALL DAY revolve around work!
That’s cool you were in Missouri! I live down in Joplin. Can’t wait to move though, we’re moving next year to Austin.
Just wanted to pop in and say great idea for Thursday posts! I’ve adopted the idea for my site and have one of your cute little icons on display.
As to your vampire love… have you been sucked into the HBO show True Blood? It’s kind of a tv version of a harlequin novel but oh how I love vampires having hot sex!! I blame Anne Rice for this. :)
Oh! I forgot! I should also be getting a pair of zebra print leggings, a copy of Iron Jawed Angels, and a copy of Eccentric Glamour in the mail soon. I LOVE getting stuff in the mail! And I’ve wanted to see Iron Jawed Angels for FOREVER but nobody around here has it.
I wish it was a bit hotter here in england :( haha

Gala,
Thanks for visiting us and giving us such a great review! I love Missouri, but I am a bit biased considering I live here! I’d say vampires and the City Museum are all a girl needs.
No way, Windstruck, I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday TOO!!!
-Which actually is what I’m loving most. I feel really free, and realize that what we had was unhealthy. Plus, it’s a thrill to wonder what I’m doing on Sunday and not feeling obligated to go see someone I’m no longer crazy about.
-Also, I think I like someone else and having new crushes, no matter what they think of me, always makes me happy.
-Getting my paycheck today
-Watching The Office online!
-“It’s A New Day” by Will.I.Am. I’ve been loving it ever since he premiered the song on Oprah but I downloaded it yesterday and I think it captures the atmosphere after our elections sooo perfectly.
That British Vogue is amazing – I’m going to have to try and track one down.
I’m loving all the amazing experiences that are opening up to me without me even trying, having a weekend doing gorgeous things with amazing people, bargains on TradeMe (NZ eBay), wrapping Christmas presents, what looks to be shaping up to be an amazing weekend in Christchurch at the end of summer (22nd to 25th), the fact that all my guy mates are trying to grow moustaches with varying grades of success, taking photos, being given the opportunity to teach a dance class next year if it all works in well with my schedule.
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!
- tiki tane’s gorgeous songs which light up my life
- my kitten, who curls up to me while sleeping and kneads my back, pure happiness
- trilogy everything balm
- making cupcakes for people and seeing their faces light up
- the awesome my little pony set a friend got me for my birthday, brings back the memories
- the first new zealand strawberries of the season, with bennets of mangawhai lemon chocolate
Hmm, the main thing on my list this week is my girlfriend! And the fact that it’s our anniversay today. Only six months but shhh, it counts! I continue to be astounded by how much I love her. She’s incredible.

Funny, I just got the same Vogue issue yesterday, the cover was too beautiful to resist and the contents sure don’t disappoint! But with the theme “fashion and fantasy”, how could it?! :-)And there’s Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter in it!!!!!
on that note:
I love those two and:
- feta cheese – having dinner with friends – having a nap – fresh and uplifting perfume
Hi Gala,
Last week was a rough week for the company I work for. Due to the way the economy is looking right now there was a layoff off about 8% of our employees. It may not seem like very many but it seemed like many of these people were within my department and were my friends. It was a very hard day. This all happened one week ago today and since then most of the people around here haven’t been very happy. I decided to send my list around to everyone in my department. I told them I was also having a bad week but I was able to focus on some positive things. I just wanted to make some of them smile. Here is some of the things my co-workers and I are loving this Thursday:
Celebrity Rehab is on tonite.
Tomorrow I will finally be getting the boots that I have been wanting for a long time.
I love Pumpkin…pies, cakes, bread, coffee ice cream…everything!
Having my hubby home since I haven’t seen him in what feels like forever (single mom thing is not for me).
Today I am wearing my “Christmas” sweater and it makes me smile because I know that it’s goofie and I don’t care!
it’s almost the weekend and grilling is in my future.
Thanks Gala! This made us all smile.
Chanele

- Vampires. Well, vampires are things I always love but since you brought it up… They’re awesome! The latest book I read was “I am Legend”, which was interesting. Also I saw Let the Right One In recently and I think it’s a beautiful movie, it’s almost as good as the book it’s based on!

Life itself – Last night, overcome with happiness, I wrote my 12-year-old self a letter. It ended with the this: “Six years from now, you’ll be able to look back and smile at how far you’ve come. Six years from now, you’ll be proud of who you are. Six years from now, you will be truly, deeply, indescribably happy.” That pretty much sums up my sentiment as of late!
School – OVER! I finished my last HSC exam yesterday, so now I am enjoying my newfound freedom after 13 long years of education! I can’t put into words how good it feels!
Cleaning – No, really! I’m in the process of chucking out bags and bags of school-related stuff, and it feels so good! With every scrap I throw out I can feel the houe almost getting lighter, and my brain becoming more relaxed! Spring cleaning is definately underrated!
Having plans – It felt so good yesterday to tell my teachers what I’m planning for next year and beyond. It might sound cheesy, but I’m so proud of myself. I’ve spent so much time terrified that I’ll be a couch potato for the rest of my life, but I won’t be! I have a plan for the next five years which is going to be mindblowing!
Schoolies – Well, not quite schoolies, but close enough. My friends and I are staying in a little beach house on the coast for three nights of next week to celebrate finishing school. I can’t wait to go to the beach, to cook ridiculous food, to dance all night, to slide down sand dunes, and to sit around the campfire! It’s going to be special. :)
Confidence – I haven’t bought a swimming costume in about five years, mainly because I’m never confident enough about my body to wear something I really like. Yesterday I squashed that fear and bought a cute little bikini and boardshorts. They’re candy coloured and black, it makes me happy. I’ve been taking care of myself and I’ve come to accept myself for who I am, as I am. :D
Come to Auckland!!! The weather here has been beautiful.
– The beautiful sunny weather. – Social hockey! I’ve never played before but it’s seriously fun! – Sewing wonderful clothes – a dark blue casual dress, a purple satin coctail dress, a few skirts… eee! – Lower petrol prices! ($60 NZ for a full tank = happy girl). – Ministry of Sound Annual 09, purchased yesterday with my borders voucher. My TILT:
ali
beautiful sunsets – I took a photo (you can see on my blog) from my balcony a few nights ago. It was funny, ‘cause my neighbour came out onto her balcony to look at the sunset at exactly the same time!
Neighbourhood festivals – My boyfriend and I went to the Newtown Festival on Sunday afternoon – it was so much fun! There were HEAPS of people there, and lots of market stalls, food and music.
Rent – I was just listening to the soundtrack, and it really is great. It reminds me of my holiday to New York in January.
Being done with uni for the year – I finished yesterday! I now have over three months of wonderful summer holidays before going back at the end of February. Also, I’m halfway through my degree now!
Planning silly costumes – two of my friends somehow ended up planning their 21st parties for the same night. Both dress-up parties, both different themes… I’m plotting and scheming to make a costume that fits in with both themes – it’s gonna be awesome!
The warm weather – it’s always such a novelty at the start of the season, isn’t it? I’m loving not having to try to fit an emergency cardigan in my bag everyday.
$2 sushi rolls – My go-to snack at uni for the last few weeks. One of the many great things about living & studying in Sydney – you are never more than ten minutes away from cheap and delicious sushi.
Having a huge selection of fun flavoured teas but always going back to the originals…
Mary-Kate and Ashley in the old days... I should be ashamed to admit it, but for the last week I’ve been watching all the episodes of Two of a Kind on Youtube…
Student fashion parades – My mum teaches fashion & textiles at senior high school, and I’ve been at her school’s year 12 fashion parade all day. So much fun! My friend and I also just bought our tickets to my uni’s graduate fashion parade & design show.
Poochie: those pinup disney pictures are so cute!! I feel like printing them all out and using them as wallpaper hehe.
My TiLT is here: louise :)enjoy.

knowing- that life has plenty of ups and downs and I must be persistent to get where i want in life
believing- that life is meant to be a challenge, if everything in life was so easy, how could you possibly appreciate it as much when you get to your destination
courage- trying something new and letting yourself go, especially in love. why hold back? life is meant to be about learning.
chance- i’m taking a chance, explore. laugh. at the end of the day knowing i tried something new.
Gala, if you adore vampires so much, do you love the original Vlad the Impaler legend equally?
If you do, there’s this amazingly excellent book (one of my favourites, but not one I pull out for company; it’s quite obscure) entitled The Historian. It’s by Elizabeth Kostova & it’s, what, 600 pages long? It’s pretty dense & I believe, if I remember right, she wrote it as her senior thesis? Maybe? Well, anyway, it has three storylines & it’s filled to the brim with actual facts about Vlad. It’s historical fiction & it’s definitely an ambitious undertaking but I totally, completely recommend it. It’s just brilliant & excellent & I can’t even come up with words to describe it, haha.
Here’s my TiLT! =)

WOW that is SO awesome that you came to Missouri!! I’m a college sophomore in Columbia, MO & I LOVE your site/your TiLTs/your overall aesthetic!! Here’s my TiLT:
Making snickerdoodles for the homeless guy outside Starbucks
Being in love :)
Bright wool trenches
Thinking about X-mas shopping (I’m slightly overzealous)
My Chanel lip gloss in the darkest berry colour possible
cuddling up in my covers
meeting people completely different from myself
saving up $ for pick-me-ups
Michelle Obama’s WARDROBE!!!
Green tea—Yum!!!!
Jane Austen—She’s a bore & her books have no plot…but her eloquence is amazing.
Studying—I always hated it, but in uni, you’re on your OWN, nobody’s shoving notes down your throat…so it’s cool now. :)
Vietnamese beauty salon ladies—They’re scary, but they know what they’re doing!
Gwen Stefani—I’m revisiting all her old music videos…she’s so fun.
Mika Nakashima—All her music’s great for chilling.
Gaining weight on purpose—So fun! I gained some since people said I needed to…and now I look better.
New driver—my old ones were always unpleasant a**es..and being stuck in traffic jams with THIS nice old man is far pleasanter.
*Reading Do Travel Writers Go To Hell? *Chocolate peanut brittle fingers YUM *New sexy shoes *My wonderful boyfriend who impresses me daily *The owls who have set up camp in my backyard *My soy fig scented candle *Red lipstick *Family monopoly nights *Trying a new restaurant with friends *Being told I look ‘something’...‘good but something i can’t describe’ by my friends!
Love you gala!
This month’s Vogue made me so happy… almost everything in it was amazing… I nearly cried a couple of times over how beautiful everything was. It’s just like that really cheesy line from Sex and the City, where Carrie says she used to buy Vogue instead of eating. Worth it!
TiLT?
Being caught out for being a goth…
Wearing a Siouxsie and the Banshee’s shirt, listening to the Cure and reading “The Crow: Lazarus Heart” by Poppy Z. Brite while on the train.
The first night alone in my new house…
My boyfriend has a boys night out tonight, so I’m going to curl up with chick flicks and popcorn.
I’m grateful for having my long TiLT post apparently eaten by the Preview button, but being so happy from what’s in the list that I don’t care!
Painting in my journal in London

* Getting DUX 2008 at college. It was a TOTAL surprise, I was really blown away, because generally, people who study English, French, Classics and two arts do not get recognition for being academic! The “traditional” dunking, fully-clad, into the swimming pool afterwards was less thrilling..
* The end of having a long distance relationship! My boyfriend came home for summer yesterday. We have been in a long distance relationship for about nine months (out of the fourteen-odd we’ve been going out for) and next year I move up to Wellington to go to uni and be with him. It’s a really good feeling that it’s all over now. Gala, how long are you in Wellington for? Cos I come up mid-February, so may see you..
* Oncoming summer: trips to the beach, fresh fruit, real fruit ice creams, barbecues, outdoor movies, jandals, skirts, floral prints…
* My new bag. It’s a Deadly Ponies Mr. Sling and I really well and truly adore. Now I need a cool wallet to match. Any recommendations from readers?
Transferring all my music from my laptop to an external hard drive to free up space.
Then merging about 5 different files i had music saved in, into one giant file, and going through and deleting double ups (a tedious task). So now i have all my music kept together and organised once and for all.
So yay for having a clean out on your ipod and loading tonnes of new cds on there to listen to :)
Hooray for it being Friday, almost the weekend.
Yay for my coffee mug at work being full of jellybellys.
- Concha Buika’s new album! I absolutely love er voice. A friend of mine described it as ‘the sound of smoke on silk’ and she is so right.
- My pink Nintendo DS. I hate to admit it, especially in front of my brothers, but I absolutely LOVE the silly girly games like Cooking Mama. Don’t get me wrong, I kick butt at Metroid too, but I will play the hell out of my Pokemon game all day. The mystery games are cool too, my favorite is Hotel Dusk.
- Rosie! I’m housesitting for a friend of my aunt’s while she’s on her honeymoon and part of the deal is that I get to take care of her adorable little dog, Rosie. She’s a longhaired dachshund and is sooooooo sweet.
- Gala’s friend Chloe! Love the name, enjoy the pictures. Seeing something from her always brightens my day, I especially love the one where she’s pretending to bite the camera and you can see all her nice white teeth.
OMG! I had NO idea you were in Missouri! I go to school in Columbia and would have LOVED to meet you! Damn!
Anyway, have nice safe trip back to the big apple! glad you liked MO!
I was about to have a heart attack if you didn’t post something today Gala!
It’s been like 4 days since your last post!
Haha!
It’s friday here in australia now, but I wrote a TILT yesterday and emailed it to my friends and put it in my blog – louiseisalwaysright.blogspot.c…

Today I love:
My purchased Cirque Du Soleil tickets! I bought them yesterday and I will be going with a very good friend of mine. I am really excited to see it in about two weeks. I dance so I’ve always wanted to see the show and all its creativity!!! I think this one is going to be more circus like. ahh cannot wait.
My planned trips for the holiday period. I am going to four new places over the months of November through Jan. and I cannot wait to experience them. I love to travel so this has really got me siked!!
Registering for my last semester of University. I cannot believe it is ending so soon. Well I have worked hard and I know I deserve it so when May 09 comes…oh boy there will be a celebration!
Origami. We celebrated Japanese culture day in my Japanese language class this week and it reminded me of how when I was a little girl I always went to the neighborhood library and did origami afterschool. haha those are some really good childhood memories.
Dreaming in my sleep. I have had some very good dreams this week about a certain someone and they just make my day!!
Being outgoing. I can intimidate people sometimes but I want to continue to be this way because it is a great trait to have when you use it correctly. :)
Happy Thursday Gala.

and
*surprise notes from friends!!!
this thursday was a really good day!
My favourite things this week have been…
- Drinks on a rooftop bar in Melbourne that had astroturf on the ground, pink walls, pink cupcakes and pomegranate punch on the menu! Whilst reminiscing about spin the bottle parties with an old friend I hadn’t seen since 1997! The joys of Facebook, huh.
- Swimming with a school of zebra fish in the Great Barrier Reef for my solo 24th birthday celebration
- Returning to New Zealand and eating a jellytip icecream
- Laughing about how much the officer in the MAF video on the plane before you land in NZ looks and talks like Murray from Flight Of The Conchords (watch for it Gala, you’ll get it!)
- Plotting bushwalks to waterfalls with old friends for Saturday morning kicks
- Being with family for the first time in 8 months
Let me know when you’re in Auckland, lovie!

Sweaters, cardigans.
A dress that was my mom’s that is just like the ones I’ve been wishing for from Urban Outfitters.
Going through a stack of my photos. Thinking about all the photos to be taken in London. Photography on the brain…
Feeling peaceful and having that calm gleefulness, even though there’s still packing to be done and a spanish composition to be written.
Guitar
Things I love today.
Finally getting my room decorated the way I like! We moved into this apartment almost three months ago, and my room has been an ugly beige color the entire time. I painted it a bright, crisp white and hung my way cool classroom pull down map of Brooklyn and Staten Island. I have a ton more to do, but at least it’s on it’s way. And then it’s time to conquer the rest of the apartment!!!
Just chilling with a friend, eating lasagna and watching Munich. Great movie, and really just a very relaxing evening.
My gym membership. I just started going again, and it feels great!
Fresh squeezed juice. I bought a juicer!
Giving a video interview for the paper of the university where I work. I talked about working abroad after graduation, which is something I did. Plus the camera girl said I have great eyes on camera! Yay!
New episode of the Office!
omg gala im so excited to hear you are going to nz for the xmas period
me too!
what part are you visiting?
during your week in auckland i mite do some galaspotting lol
I made a list while I was at work today in hopes to make a video TiLT tonight, but that just didn’t happen. so I’ll start slowly… :)
Celestial Seasonings Blueberry Tea- Totally amazing stuff. I dug my box of it from my old apartment out of the pantry this week and I sure am glad i did! it’s sooo good! mmmmm!
Early Phone Calls- My morning started at 5:30 am by my boy (who lives in S. Cali while I’m in NY) who called me just to tell me over and over again how much he loves me. (he had been drinking…but it’s much cuter when he’s drunk) we talked for a half hour and then I got ready for work with a big smile on my face! :D
Guitar Lessons- My dad made me an awesome guitar in High School that I never learned to play. He gave me my first lesson tonight. my figures hurt and I remembered how I nervously laugh during music lessons…. but I’m hoping to pick things up quickly!
Understanding Textbooks- I pulled out a text book about a video editing program that I have to know eventually for my desired job. I haven’t read a text book in almost a year, but I actually understood what it was talking about for once! it was exciting!
Eating Healthy Lunches- After eating frozen dinner things for lunch for the past 2 months, Spinach with Cranberries and walnuts is heaven in a tupperware container!
Susan Tedeschi- I’m seeing her in concert tomorrow night with my mom! I’m really excited! She’s so awesome!!! :D
the British issue of Vogue is amazing!
it has Helena Bonham Carter in it and she is delightful :)
Hairspray – the new version. Just seen it for the first time right now and all I wanna do is WIGGLE!!!
Woohoo :)
I don’t usually post to TiLT but I have SO much to be thankful for at the moment:
- looking forward to my 3rd white Christmas. Och, aye! – a lovely Scottish, kilt-wearing boyfriend who spoiled me rotten for my birthday. – planting veggies in the springtime. (Nothing tastes as good or as healthy as home grown produce and what a feeling of satisfaction to boot!) – music festivals with friends. – taking my niece and nephew to the movies. Adorable! – Cool new job in the city.
Such bliss!! :)
Oh man, I really want to visit the City Museum! It sounds AWESOME!
My TiLT:
Finishing exams. I had an exam this morning, and I think I went okay in it. Now I only have one more left (next Tuesday) and then I’m on HOLIDAYS!!!
Pretty handmade things arriving in the mail.
Getting my eyes tested and finding that I don’t need to wear reading glasses anymore. Sweet!
Kangaroos calmly hopping past a huge crowd of uni students as we all walked to the exam rooms. SO AWESOME. And there were little baby ones too!
Going to the library on the way home from uni and finding six awesome books in the space of about 15 minutes.
It’s Movember, and lots of Aussie men are growing moustaches. I find them disgusting yet hilarious. I tried to convince my boyfriend to grow one but he decided against it. Boo.
The Playstation game Little Big Planet. I don’t usually like computer/playstation games (except for Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers, which will always be super awesome) but my boyfriend bought this game last week and I’ve been playing it with him, and it’s pretty fun. Part of the reason I like it is because you can create super-cute characters
The fact that my car still works, even though it hasn’t had a service in about 2 years…
Darrell Lea White Chocolate Rocky Road. So incredibly good.
The weather today – cool and rainy. Perfect for reading novels and watching DVDs, which is exactly what my plans for this afternoon are.
- Got my biopsy over and done with so I can stop worrying about it. Just waiting for the results now, but I’m determing to keep believing that all will be well.
- On the same note, finally got all the paperwork filled out by me and my doctor so that I can get my independent medical insurance set up, quit my HORRIBLE job, get a little part-time gig, and focus on school.
- Chatting about teapots and matcha powder with a sweet guy in Teavana.
- Actually shelling out a little of my hard earned money on myself for three (much needed) new tops, and a new pair of cable knit tights. Now if I could just find more full length skirts!
- Having four seperate fresh flower arrangements in our condo currently.
- Making a delicious, asian-style vegan noodle bowl for dinner with TONS of fresh, steamed veggies.
- Helping my artist mom run her first show since they moved almost a year ago, and having it go SUPER well. Not to mention finding a new hair stylist in the process (and getting a FREE haircut!).
Your Cupcake message reminded me to write on here…
