Things I Love Thursday
[ 27 November 2008 ]
Oh, what’s that? What did you say? Speak up, I can’t hear you. Oh, it’s time for the WORLD FAMOUS THINGS I LOVE THURSDAY?! Really? How appropriate! I was just getting my list ready! Don’t you love it when things work out like that?!
Okay, so here’s my TiLT list! It’s been a really quiet week, maybe one of the quietest all year, but here’s what I’ve come up with!
Remember that if you want to participate on your own blog or journal, start a Facebook thread, whatever, you can use a badge! (It will make you look cool, promise, & there are two wicked new badges by Kate & Karen for you to pilfer!)
Murs — I just heard the track he made with Busy P, To Protect & Entertain (thank you, Sophie!). Have a listen, it is magnifique. Best parts? “L.A., city of smog, scenesters, hipsters, sneakers, blogs… Tomorrow morning I’mma be on Cobrasnake, makin’ out with a chick that my girlfriend hates!” Murs, you are awesome.
What I Wore Today — I was first contacted by Graffito Books about appearing in WIWT aaaaaages ago (or so it seems!), so you can imagine my delight & surprise to see a copy of the book in my local Urban Outfitters! (Well, it was local at the time!) It’s an amazing book, featuring some of the most interesting, cool & innovative outfits worn by girls online! I have 3 pages in it, & there are also pictures of a whole bunch of my friends, including my infamous wife, Nubby! Yay!

Seeing old friends — Moving to a different country can often fracture friendships. It’s really easy to forget about people when you don’t see them all the time, or to get more involved with the people you do see regularly! One of the best things, though, about meeting awesome people, is that when you get back together in the same city, often it’s just the way it always was. I also really, really love the fact that the three girls I see most often in New Zealand are people who’ve known me since I was 14! Bonus: They’re all just as sweet & cool as they’ve ever been. I love them.
Planning roadtrips! A friend & I have been trading excited emails about making the trek north in January. By then, I will have my learner’s license (simultaneous laughter & excitement!) so I will actually be able to do some of the driving! Oh my god! Auckland, you’ll see me sooooooon!
Easing back into the NZ lifestyle — Wow. New Zealand & New York could not be more different. Every time I come back to NZ, it becomes even more apparent to me. My parents live by the sea, & it is so quiet here! All the time! Yesterday someone crashed their Mini down the road & I actually went out to witness the excitement! Seriously. While I am still hankering for the energy of Manhattan, Wellington definitely has charm, & it’s really beautiful. Postcard-esque. I’m doing my very best to soak up as much of it as I can — by kicking back, relaxing, enjoying the sunshine, & taking lots of photos, because I know that when I leave for the States next year, I won’t be back for a while!
Honourable mentions: The video for Hello by Lionel Richie (my friend told me about it on Saturday night, & it just happened to play on television the next afternoon — I laughed SO HARD, it is unbelievably awful!); Commodores – Nightshift (love it so much); Blueprint (new favourite Rhymesayers artist, maybe?); having a lazy eye in photos (channelling my inner Paris Hilton); Snow Patrol (I am a fan, I am, I am); working on new projects (coming soon baby!); big bowls of guacamole; big stacks of books; “I like snogging better than sex“; MSM (I haven’t taken any for months & have just started again); 2 hour + phonecalls with my girlfriends; reminiscing & laughing; running through the rain in high heels; Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreaks (even though it suffers from a major case of auto-tune overdose); new Moleskines (I just bought my 2009 diary & started a new blank soft-covered one, too); apple slices with peanut butter (new obsession); Bong-Ra’s super-long mixes; looking at my wedding ring (what a nerd!); planning trips to the beach; Lamb — I forgot all about them, criminal! Especially when Little Things (lyrics) could easily be the TiLT theme song!; counting my blessings on the Flickr blog; the fact that gratitude is ALL THE RAGE!; having manners; being productive; good rich coffee; my new awesome vampire t-shirt (it says “Truth be told, vampires suck. BLOOD THIRSTY IMMORTALS!” & was a gift from Timmy Kern!), & getting to wear my summer clothes again!
I also want to send my love out to my favourite crew, Palms Out, purveyors of FINE tunes! They are getting a lot of grief from Google & Blogger right now, & it’s all very unfortunate. Fingers crossed that everything gets sorted out soon. I love you guys! My palms is outttt!
Bonus points! If you have any pressing questions you want to ask me about, well, anything — being Gala, the iCiNG project, etc., send ‘em through! iCiNG’s 2 year anniversary is coming up (can you believe it?!) & as a special treat, I decided to do an interview with myself like y’all have been requesting with my career articles! So, ask me whatever you like, all I ask is that you please email ‘em through rather than just commenting, because otherwise they’ll get lost forever! Peeeeace!
“The trick is not how much pain you feel — but how much joy you feel. Any idiot can feel pain. Life is full of excuses to feel pain, excuses not to live, excuses, excuses, excuses.” — Erica Jong
Okay then gorgeous, how about you? What made you do a little jig of glee this week?
Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala ![]()

My TiLT for this week is going to weekend conferences and spending time with amazing people who make me realize that grad school is absolutely the right choice for me and that I couldn’t be happier/more terrified!
It just feels so goooood!
-Dark toenails: I loove it! My bf hates them but whatever xD (he hates nail polish of any type :<)
-Doing great in exams: Not only have I passed 2 of the 5 classes I had this semester with great grades, but I took the exams early in the morning, which is a miracle for me! My exams are oral, and since teachers call in people in alphabetic order, and my last name starts with U, I always get to do the exams very late…like 8pm, but I took the last two about 11am! WOOT!
-My nephew: My sister and her son are leaving for London in two days, so I’m enjoying my little crazy nephew as much as I can. He’s ridiculously cute :)
-Pad Thai: Cause I know how to cook it and I will this friday. yumm
Finally, I’m super excited about going with my new girlfriends to the beach in two 1/2 weeks! Yeah, two weeks is quite a long time for being so excited, but I have never been with them for such a long time, less living together, and going to Valparaiso (google it-amazing city) is always great :DDD
Oh, I’m right there with you on the Snow Patrol front. I’ve had their newest album on repeat for a while now. I’d have Gary Lightbody’s babies, if he’d let me ;)
~basketball match b/w kuwait & KSA. saudi lost :( but all the players were handicapped & in wheelchairs, so it was that much more exciting!
~meeting up with friends i haven’t seen in YEARS
~waking up before everyone else
~inspiring people in my vicinity. when you get a chance to meet & see high-achievers..regularly..it’s really a good kick to motivate you.
~a dad-free week!!!!!!!!!!! the only thing that’d make this better would be if my brothers had left too.
~sunglasses
~getting organized. less clutter, more focus.
~toddlers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

angela — Yes, I know! Funny huh?!
penelope — I love carols too! I blame my Anglican schooling. Even though at the time I was totally anti anything God-related, now I cannot get enough of carols. I really love being a huge group of people singing! NERD ALERT! People often look at me in abject disgust when I reveal this fact :D

I don’t have much to write about but I’ll try.
Things I love thursday-
- Compliments from people I’ve enver met before! I went to one of my work friend’s birthday parties last weekend and all her friends (most of which were a good 4 or more years older than me) LOVED my hair! So weird but nice, they were all like: “Oh my god, your hair is amazing!” etc. I was like: “Uhhh thanks… I’ve come straight from working a 9 hour shift and havn’t done anything to it, but thankyou!”
Haha! Brilliant.
- MY NEW CAMERAAAA! I’ve had it for once whole week as of tomorrow. It’s so new and lovely. It’s a digital SLR – A Canon Eos 450D to be exact. And I lurve it. I can’t wait to take it out on the town and to gigs and whatnot! I do however need to insure it first but yeh.
Woo!
- Both of my new pairs of shoes! So adoreable. I’ve needed new heels for agessss and now I have two new pairs! :) Woo!
- Being home alone. Monday to friday I’m home alone every day until like 5pm. It’s so brilliant. I can sit around in my pjs and no one will tell me off. And I can eat non-breakfast things for breakfast. Haha.
- Something With Numbers!!! Seeing them tomorrow night! EXCITING! Can’t wait to see Jake dance some more. Brilliant. I’m excited even though I’ve already seen them twice this year :P
- Nail polish. In particular, the purple, blue and aqua ones I bought recently. I’ve worked my way through them all, finally on the blue after having purple for a week and a half, and aqua for a week and a half. Haha.
- Empty magazine. Art and culture and other awesome stuff. I’m going to subscribe to it, it’s that good!
- MOUNTAIN DEW. I bought 3 2L bottles from the IGA for $1.50 each. So cheap and soooo good.
The end!
i’ve had an absolutely fabulous & perfect week!
read & view if you’d like : )

Yay! Gala’s coming to Auckland! I will have my peepers open for you =D. My list:
My new skirt – I found it today at Savemart (a huge second hand shop) while I was looking for stuff for my trip to Costa Rica. It’s floor length. It’s blue and gold. It’s patterned. It’s summery. It’s boho. I’m in LOVE. Oh and it was FOUR DOLLARS. Plus I bought a dark gold woven belt to go with it.
My tidy home – More time at home while on study leave = more time to tidy and a nicer environment. Yay!
Being able to french braid my hair – it’s finally long enough for a braid on either side. I think I’ll live with my hair like this while in Costa Rica.
Cambodian-style coffee – I picked this up a few months ago after my trip to south-east asia. Black plunger coffee with sweet condensed milk. Yum! And easy to make.
Ikes Emporium – Best shop ever. Like a crazy $2 shop combined with Nanna’s attic and a fabric shop. Awesome fabric for $2 a metre and lace/trims and elastic for 30 cents a metre. =D
Costa Rica Anticipation – Can’t wait! Two weeks of volunteer work, two weeks of travel! With a bunch of awesome people!
-listening to my friend’s radio show on triple j at 1am and hearing him play my favourite track by my friend/current love interest.

-the 5 year old basketball prodigy on ellen who, when asked who she wanted to play basketball with, replied instantly, “obama!”
-sunshine!
Things I love this Thursday/things I’m thankful for:
~(real) cranberry sauce on my turkey and gravy on my mashed potatoes
~getting the family together for Thanksgiving even though it’s not at my Aunt Leslie’s house this year (they’re in England visiting my cousin @Oxford!)
~my home state: Maryland
~getting a great view of the Naval Academy and Annapolis as the plane approached the airport
~the odd and wonderful feeling that my “it’s complicated” would be waiting for me when I got off the plane…even though I fully realized how silly and impossible that actually is
~sleeping in a BED (not a craptastic futon)
~knowing that I’m going to go clothes shopping over the weekend!
~new haircut on Friday
~my roommates
~haikus
~my books
~doing stats problems at the airport, haha
I love Thanksgiving and can’t wait to see my family for our big dinner :] This year I get to share it with my boyfriend which is awesome. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving day!
:O did you know the whole “droopy eye” thing is called ptosis?
I’m actually completely obsessed with ptosis. I’d go gay for a girl with ptosis (like Tegan Quin
So my TILT is a bit short this week:
+ Mi friends… there are just way too many reasons why I love them so much.
+ Ptosis… cause it makes people cuter :)
Thanksgiving at home. I had a change of plans, so I couldn’t go to my grandma’s house for Thanksgiving like I usually do. My mom’s been an absolute dear and she’s planning the makeshift feast!
Lush! I just placed an order with them, and next week I will be attending an in-store party! Glee!
Friends. I’ve been having a hard time lately, and it’s great to see how many people jumped to my side, including some surprises. People never cease to surprise me for the best.
the thing I love this Thursday?
Realising I am as strong and independent as I always thought, and that I should never doubt myself.
PS, what is MSM? That linkie no workie =(
-London. I can’t believe I left 5 days ago… I want to go back so badly! Most amazing week ever.
-British Vogue… Fantastic Fashion Fantasy issue! Gala, it is absolutely stunning and gorgeous, and my roommate was about to kill me in London because I kept going on and on about it. I’m trying to decide what to do with it… I have a dream of wallpapering my room in rainbow colors with pages from Vogue and other magazines.
-Stalking my former teacher on Facebook
-Putting my photos on Flickr…
www.flickr.com/photos/25777236
-Walking around pointlessly with my friend so we can finish talking. I’m always laughing when I’m with her.
-Laughing at the irony of it being Thanksgiving vacation, and me being too jetlagged to sleep past 7am.
It is so crazy to think that you are right this minute in little Wellington, New Zealand!
You are such a cool chick and to have you on our fair shores just seems really awesome to me. I was so excited when I heard you were heading down this way…not that NZ doesn’t have cool people but it sure ain’t New York or London.
Enjoy the rest of you stay, it is a kinda special place.
Things I love this Thursday:
* Gala in New Zealand
I’ve been lacking in the TiLT list-making lately, but in honor of lightcast day (here’s the Virgo version of this, check it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbQ1uf…) I’m puttin’ it out there. :D
Things Rachel
Wow I haven’t done one of these in a while…
My boyfriend’s birthday yesterday I bought an obnoxiously huge balloon and put it in his box to surprise him (we go to a boarding school where there are rows of mailboxes by the door – everyone has one)
Coming home for Thanksgiving I never really appreciated my parents until I didn’t live with them anymore. I really missed my family this week of all weeks though
New Shoes I just got these great new laced high heeled boots from Payless last weekend and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since. I’m under the (probably false) impression that they look good with everything I own
Sleeping in My 2 earlier classes were cancelled this morning, so I got to sleep in – waking up naturally felt sooo good
Simplicity I totally believe in putting an effort into your appearance, but sometimes a really simple outfit can look so good. Today, I’m wearing a white men’s undershirt and denim shorts and it feels so right. Bonus: my bf was wearing also wearing a plain white tshirt and jeans :)
Finally, I love reading everyone’s lists every week. It totally cheers me up, even if I’m having a horrible day.
Oh my goodness, it deleted my list! It was a long one too, with tons of links. I’ll summarize:
- SoulGarden TV – www.youtube.com/soulgardentv – apple cider vingar in tea – copenhagencyclechic.com – my new lookalike marc by marc jacobs pear bauble watch, that i got dirt cheap at an antique store. – crocheting on rainy days while watching movies. i made a tam/snood hat! my own pattern too. :D – my new exercise routine. i added more weights & elliptical into the mix, + an abs class. – cheating food-wise for thanksgiving. i am having potato chips & dip for dinner! yeeeeee
The vid for ‘Hello’ is a work of genius. God I loved it when I was about eight. Also I TOTALLY love ‘Nightshift’, and thank you so much for reminding me.
Listie:
My Queenstown-based parents are around this way – I’ll see them on Saturday.
My hamstring injury is finally coming right. SO relieved. Can do grand battements again!
Damn I’m good with kids. Coaching, teaching, parenting; it’s kind of My Thing.
A woman in my gym class was wearing a Dumbledore’s Army T-shirt. !!!
This from The Manolo:
And now you are mostly happy with your life, with your man and your children, and even with your job, despite its frustrations. For you have at last discovered the great secret that is hidden from the young, that life can be good even when it is not perfect. http://shoeblogs.com/2008/11/24/christian-louboutin-padrino-for-the-monday/
That is the best TiLT in a long time. I can feel your sunshiny, happy demeanor. You make my day!
♠ I’ve been using my 2008 planner more often now because I’m so excited to use my 2009 moleskine (that I bought in August).
♠ My hair is finally getting to be shoulder length again and it’s curling better right now.
♠ Kanye’s newest cd, “I Hate This Part” by The Pussycat Dolls, Ludacris’ new cd, “Kill The Lights” by Britney Spears & “Something in Your Mouth” by Nickelback (this song cracks me up)
♠ Cranberry sauce from a can, so wrong and so right!
♠ Peanut butter cookies, even if they do come from a just add water and eggs mix, they’re delicious.
♠ Planning out my Christmas card list
♠ Interviewing artists that are so passionate about what they do that it inspires me.
♠ Rain! It hasn’t rainged here nearly enough this year, but it finally did today and it’s been gorgeous.
♠ Re-reading Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, so good.
♠ My Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens, I don’t know how I would get through the day without them.
♠ Getting magazines in the mail
♠ Getting letters, notes and random gifts in the mail when I’m not expecting them
♠ I have fans, which is crazy. :)
I’m Spreading the Love too.
Here’s my TiLT for the week:

x hugging. lame, i know. i probably said this last week. WHATEVER, it’s really nice and warm and kind of awkward if there’s any kind of height difference but still. it’s the nice kind of awkward.
x christmas lights stuck to my bookshelf, ready to flash and cheer me up whenever i feel the need. i won’t be here for christmas (i type this from my university room) but i’m still enjoying decorations and stuff here. i can’t believe how soon it is now, less than a month to go.
x doctor who. i’ve missed loads of episodes and it’s so good and i’m looking forward to slowly making my way through all of them once david tennant has gone. hope the next doctor is as good.

Coming home for the first time since August, which feels particularly long this year. My own room and bed, a fridge full of food and a kitchen to cook in, my parents, my brother, and…
The Puppy! Yes, the puppy. Baby voice and ‘the’ coming out more like ‘da’, puppy. We got him a few weeks ago, and he’s such a sweetheart. 18 month old Boxer named Fred. He’s wonderful.
Thanksgiving happens to be one of my favorite meals of the year. So pumped for turkey & stuffing & potatoes & more…
Sleeping in a real bed as opposed to my crap dorm room bed, which creak and shifts and sucks. We just got a new full size for my bedroom, and I love it
My TiLT for this week has to be my black eye. I’ve never had one before, and I actually look ridiculous, but I actually am fascinated by it! Passed out yesterday at the sight of my own blood and hit my head on my way down. Hehe. My own clumsiness amuses me. Oh, and spending awesome time with my family playing dominoes. My dad was singing rugby tunes and my sister and I were laughing at everything that was said. I love my family. We’re just insane enough to be fabulous!
I’m loving on:
+ the holiday season! being able to see all my family & friends from out of town & eat pumpkin pie together.
+ my restaurant job, lately. good moods all around because of the holidays.
+ hummus, avocado, lime juice, and a whole wheat pita. vegetarian chili with greek yoghurt.
+ portugal. the man is brilliant- I don’t know how I missed listening to them before now . also, yeasayer.
+ my new silver bullet. hahahaha yeah.
+ the game of go.
+ the local music scene- such a central part of my teenage years- I went to my first show in ages last weekend and felt so much gratitude that I was able to grow up with that kind of environment nearby.
+ planning my graduation party next month (& my exciting meaningful life beyond!)
- Falling asleep to thunderstorms in a cozy bed.
- Biographies. My favourites as yet are those of Nick Cave, Edie Sedgwick, Brett Whitely and Anthony Kiedis. Next I’m reading Courtney Love’s, which will no doubt be a ride.
- Silver buckles, chains, studs and zips – bling in its greatest form.
- Salad extravaganzas everyday, with sunflower seeds, cherry tomatoes and sweet corn.
- Summer fruit. Hello mangoes, nectarines, peaches and glorious fruity cocktails.
- Embracing the summer sun and adding colour to my otherwise pasty complexion.
- Summer holidays and the luxury of partying well into the hours of the next morning.
- Black and white film photography. I spent the last week of university cooped inside the darkroom.
- Chupa Chups – a perfectly sized dose of sugar. My fave is strawberries and cream.
- Oversized mens shirts.
- Long, lovely locks. I want mine to growww!
- Finding solace on a rooftop with a book and a banana lounge.
- Green tea with honey to sweeten.
- The beach. Swimming in it, running across it and relaxing upon it.
- Oversized bags. They are my fifth limb.
- Change – packing my belongings and moving to a new city.
* Being able to participate in TiLT this week!!! I’m always too busy or forget but yay, here I am!!
* Buying super cute new clothes this week. Yes, I know I’m always buying clothes, but it’s been all fun vests and dresses and soft tshirts!! Hurrah!
* Having an interview for a dream job… I haven’t had an answer on the outcome yet but I’m way excited that they even saw potential and wanted me in the office!!
* My huge black pleather fringed bag bought on the el cheapo rack at Sportsgirl. It’s tops.
* Having been to the gym more this week – yay to uni finishing and having extra time to myself!
* Making out with the ex. Admittedly not the smartest idea but it was fun…hmm.
* Plans for pretty dressing and cocktails for a birthday party tomorrow night. Yay!
- Finding sparkly black christmas decorations in preparation to setting up my purple tree, not very traditional but i love it.
- Event invitations to exciting things, going to the Mind, Body & Spirit Festival www.mbsfestival.com.au/ on Saturday and the Melbourne Design Market www.nationaldesigncentre.com/D… on Sunday both of which will be great events for Christmas shopping and catch up with friends :)
- My Wii FIT which is quite addictive!
I love:
*Planning my farm! I will have two chickens for eggs only, a huge garden, and maybe a llama. Just because I love llamas.
*Laughing at the Twilight movie! saw it tonight and had a blast with the cheesy goodness
*Delicious new videogames for my DS… Ninjatown!
I only have 3 things this week, because it’s been a bit of a hard week.. but I’m trying! chin up, always.
Things I love Thursday? Oh, I can think of at least one thing I’d have on my list …. I GOT INTO THE COURSE I WANT TO DO NEXT YEAR! Soon I will be studying all the OTHER things on my Things I Love Thursday list- stage makeup, drag makeup, fashion and catwalk makeup and styling, photography, blood and gore and cuts and burns and all things zombie, vampire or otherwise special effects, body painting, period hair and makeup and facepainting! TOTAL SQUEAL!
XXXXXXXXXXX
my TILT *spending the whlole day in the sun. swimming and working on my tan. *soul mama for breakfast/lunch *oversized sun bags! the bigger the better! *taking time off *learning new things. *cooking okonmiyaki *homemade mojitos * and just good friends.
* Writing emails to random people off iCING, and it turning out I am able to help them with something (even if not in the most practical way – unless moral support is practical!).
* Finally putting up a new post on my sadly neglected blog!
* My Mum arriving from NZ tomorrow, for a visit.
* Discovering the Apartment Therapy website. I want the book for Christmas! This leads to fantasizing about changes I want to make in my own apartment… Fun, fun, fun!
* Exercising my critical thinking skills by reading a tonne of feminist theory lately.
* A cold Corona on a hot, humid, thunderstormy day (enjoying right now, mmmmm, delish!)
* Despite my decision to grow out my short haircut, realising that wearing it this way for the last six months has REALLY made me consider my personal style and what suits me in a fairly ruthless way – no long hair = nothing to hide behind!
x Having such a fun time at my boy’s formal! (even though i think i was the oldest partner there – being 3 years older than my boy)
x Spending time with the aforementioned boy, and having him look after me because I’m sick. Even though he is also sick.
x Being finished with uni for the year. Finally!
x Getting pretty things in the mail
x Vegemite on toast
x Having finished my Christmas shopping already (gotta love being a Virgo)
x Getting excited for my trip to Hong Kong. 1 week to go!
-Kirsten! Aww, what a sweet girl.
-My hair starting to get longer finally
-Homemade sushi, with avocado, cucumber, japanese mayonaise, tofu, sundried tomato and toasted sesame seeds. So good.
-Homemade choc chip biscuits that my dad and boyfriend demolished 5 minutes after I took them out of the oven.
-Red nail polish, red lipstick and hot rollered hair.
-My bunny. She is the cutest little potato you could ever imagine. She loves carrots and pats on the top of her head, and everything she does is adorable. She sits in her litter tray most of the day, and spends the rest of the day shreding newspaper. Too cute.
* Being invited to a saffron buns baking evening by a new friend on a day when everything felt too black.
* Oranges, juicy, tasty and bright coloured!
* A sliver of sunrise on the horizon fighting the huge blanket of clouds above.
* My friend Sara, she’s fun, honest and gives excellent advice. Thank you Sara, you are greeeat!
the fact kanye west tickets are now 2 for 1 omg. glee!
Well, am I dumb or what ? (oops, always forget that a girl never should ask this question, coz there will always be somebody to answer positively, lol) I have pressing questions but cannot find your email address anywhere on the site… ?
Oh, and for the TILT, hem…
As I have an evaluation interview with my boss in… 52 minutes (yikes !), I am a bit too freaked-stressed-pressured out to find some !
Oh yes, the golden sunrise this morning, and … the possibility that my boss may congratulate me for my work ? (seriously doubting, but…)
Oh, and a 4-days week-end ! That’s a good thing ! Should focus on that point I think ;o)
deciding to never drink or do drugs again.
deciding to move country.
deciding i can do better than this.
knowing things will get better than now.
having hope and trying to keep hope.
trying to learn what respect is.
trying to know what the right thing to do is.

Seeing scan pictures of my Goddaughter. I can’t believe she’ll be here in a couple of weeks!

I have had an awful week this week, so finding Things I love this Thursday is a bit tricky. But here we go all the same:
: trying really hard to make friends here in France
: my new laptop (with a side order of please please please don’t leave me without internet this weekend)
: layering for winter
: 22 days until I can see my family again!
: my iPod, without it I would be all alone at night and hearing the lovely voices of the Radio 4 presenters helps me feel a little better
: cricket! again, I know, but I still love it. Though the rest of the tour in India is in doubt because of the awful attacks that happened last night.

BEST APPLE PIE I EVER MADE! USE THIS RECIPE for the rest of you feel good thursdays!
www.myhomecooking.net/apple
Today is Thanksgiving and I want to get this in before I forget…
1. Honesty – I called my secret library crush and left a message on his voicemail. I was a little tipsy when I left the message and forgot what I said…well…the following day, I got a message back and he basically said that he was just looking for a friendship and not a relationship. I was upset and embarressed about it but in thinking about it, I decided that I was thankful that he was honest from the very beginning.
2. Getting my computer back – it was out of commission for over a month. I had to do all my computer stuff at work and there were a lot of blocked sites. Ugh, frustrating! But thankfully, someone at work fixed it for me. And I paid him with home made bread. Yay.
3. Family – My parents are 5 hour drive from where I live and I don’t have the money to see them this holiday. I feel bad that I can’t be with my parents, but I have a brother who lives here in the same town, he is going back to see my parents this weekend, so today he is hosting thanksgiving for my girls and I. I love him for that.
4. Library – I love going to a place where I can check out books, cds, and movies for free. I also like the free view of my secret librabry crush.
5. Rain – We haven’t had it for so long. (I live in the desert) It feels so nice to wake up to the sounds of soft drizzels in the morning. I like to bust out my cute sweaters and maybe go shopping for a few more.
Well, that’s my list for today. Happy Thanksgiving.
Okay, never do these but I feel I should be more thankful, and moan an awful lot less!
- having time off to do my mountain of college work
- looking forward to going to see DYLAN MORAN (Black Books is genious) in my beloved London on Monday!
- having a boyfriend who love love loves me
- House of Leaves – I am worryingly obsessed with this book, but my God it is amazing. Even if I am now scared of the dark
- Diet Kick (cheap rip off red bull oh yes)
- mini flirting
- Knowing my UCAS is being sent and I am one step further to my University dream!
=)
Ah, tilt. Highlight of my week, it seems.
+It’s Thursday and I don’t have to go back to school ‘till Monday. Thanksgiving, I love you. I get to go to my aunts house and talk about video games with my nerdy family and eat, and then play video games for three days straight. Yeah. Good weekend. :]
+I tried emailing [myspace messaging, but, same diff] an old friend and callinga truce, and it totally worked. We have a lot of mutual friends and so I think it will feel better hanging out with them without this nagging thing hanging there. So thank you Gala.
+This one song we’re playing for concert band, Fate of the Gods. It’s an extremely cool piece of music, and it’s got a bunch of different moods and themes. And I get a pretty melody part… I happeh.
+World of Warcraft. I am a nerd, at heart.
+The Sweeny Todd soundtrack.
+The fact that my collective group of friends and I have a crush on the same girl. It’s pretty amazing.
+Wearing t-shirts and jeans and still feeling fashionable-esque.
+Life
+This blog.
Hope you all have loverly weekends, however long they may be!
- knowing that tomorrow is Friday and that means my Mr is back (although it is now Friday and I’m bursting with excitement!!!)
- Lift plus. To get me through my looming morning deadline and into the afternoon one.
- the rain. It fell down here earlier this week, swollen rivers, everythings damp. But it was wonderful lying in bed listening to it fall on the tin roof.
- nice people. I deal with so many angry/upset people everyday that it is a breath of fresh air when someone comes in to compliment your work.
- Dresses. I’m normally such a jeans girl, but all this week I’ve challenged myself to wear skirts or dresses. Today is the first slight slip up, wearing tights but my dress would be too short for work without them. New Zealand is just coming into summer and I can’t wait.
- strawberries, falafel, and home grown lettuce. Not all together, but delicious none the less.
- anticipation. I’m waiting for a present to arrive from America and the excitement is near bursting point!
- gala’s Tilt actually being on a Thursday cause she is in NZ just like me. yay!
Hi Gala. The Urban Outfitters Book is so cool!
The things I love today are:
Saturday field trips with my kids to Nickel City in San Jose. I had so much fun and I felt like a kid again. I really really love my job and the people I work with. I am so blessed and every day I am thankful that I have been able to have found and be accepted to work with this community. They are absolutely amazing and after so many disappointing jobs it feels so very very nice to have this one. One that I truly adore and cannot get enough of. I am learning so much and I feel like there is much more to learn!
Beautiful Sunday weather and going to Golden Gate Park to experience the weather. I sat in the park and ate lunch as well as meditated for some time! It was peaceful. Since I broke my pinky toe in early October I had not taken much time to calm my mind because I couldn’t take yoga classes. I am glad I took the initiative in the park and would like to continue doing that on my own rather than waiting for classes because they may not always be accessible.
Treating myself and dressing up in some way every day even as small as nice knickers. ;)I put on makeup on Monday and dressed up to go to work. I felt really beautiful. I got many compliments too which was great. That feeling I had the entire day was…inexplicable.
Overall, just being positive and appreciating what I have right now exactly where I am. This is not always easy but as time has passed I find myself being better and better at this. I am very grateful for my life.
Happy thursday!

1. meeting grogeous people

:) xx
TiLT:
1. Birthdays, holidays, any sort of special day that involves family and presents and good food and getting all dolled up!!
2. Ridiculous shopping sprees. It’s funny because in high school, I was rarely allowed even a trip to the thrift store…but now that I’m at uni, every time I visit home, my mom takes me out to all these nice places and is like “Buy buy buy!!” Haha I love it!
3. My new camera :)
4. New purple leather vintage gloves. And also my vintage gold gloves. So special they deserve their very own mention.
5. Being outside and reconnecting with activites that I haven’t enjoyed for too long!
6. Getting “cardio” workouts by jumping around the living room.
7. Meeting up with old friends. Now that we’re scattered about the country, it’s so important to get together when we’re all home.
8. Community service
9. The gym
10. Cozy sweaters, textured scarves, patterned tights, toasty gloves, and thick coats.
1. Kickboxing class for the third week in a row. So pleased with myself :P

7. ...Going to bed early tonight!
I am easily pleased :)
Belated, but hey, I’ve been busy!
*Singing along to Wham!‘s ‘Last Christmas’ with a bunch of people, like it’s a traditional carol.
*Getting the opening night of my show over with, and breathing a sigh of relief when the audience laughed, clapped, cheered, and begged for more.
*The Aunty Club! Two of my closest friends have just become first time Aunties, and I’ve just found out I’m soon to become an Aunty 6th time round. The thrill never wears off.
*Getting thoroughly spoilt for my birthday last weekend.
*My big sister, who makes me laugh in disbelief at her crazy antics.
Heh, in America, it’s Thanksgiving! How apt that Thanksgiving always takes place on Thursdays, just in time for a TiLt!
-Everything having to do with this silly tradition filled holiday. From the parade, to the turkey, to the family time, it’s all just so adorable.
