Things I Love Thursday

Things I Love ThursdayYayoi Kusama: permanent inspiration.

My silver diamante G ring — I just rediscovered it at the bottom of my jewellery box (which is actually a Hello Kitty lunchbox, & has served me well), & have been wearing it every day. I used to wear it as a set — G A L A across my knuckles. Want a blast from the past? Remember this? (Whooooah!) Anyway, I have a bunch of other rings I like to wear now too, & since G A L A takes up a lot of finger real-estate decided to just wear the G on my thumb. It makes me very happy. Funny how something so cheap (I think it was probably $3) can bring so much unabashed glee.

Having my breakfast delivered. The ultimate in laziness… or is it? Yes, I could run next door & grab some nosh, but when you’re in the middle of a writing frenzy, in the flow & really don’t want to tear yourself away from the keyboard, a deli which delivers is like a gift straight from heaven.

New apartment possibilities — I’ve been thinking about taking over the lease in this apartment when the current lease runs out (I’m subletting), which is on the first of June. But I told myself that I would have a look around the city during the month of May to see what else is out there. Make an informed decision, you know. Plus, scouring Craigslist for apartments is one of my favourite things to do. You think, what would my life be like if I lived there? How would I decorate it? What kind of parties would I throw? Anyway, yesterday a cute apartment appeared in my life which I am going to look at this weekend. It’s a two-bedroom with no closets, but I couldn’t help thinking, ‘Well, I could use that second bedroom as a closet… & merchandise it like a shop…’ YUM, how good would that be?! So, we’ll see…

My friends — What a group. Oh, how they indulge me. Especially when I am cast adrift in the wild seas of Boytopia. Damn, I love you.

Manfesting Mondays (#MaMo) on Twitter! This is new to me & I have yet to participate but I think it is the cutest idea ever. You can read about how it works here & here!

David Dallas – Indulge Me is my new favourite song. FAVOURITE SONG. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve listened to it since I discovered it yesterday. Firstly, mean beat. Secondly, nice flow boyyyy. Thirdly, David is totally awesome. Best rapper in New Zealand, what what. It’s such a privilege to know him. Okay so now that I’ve totally shamed him out, listen to this song (& enjoy the amazing video — PostIt Notes!!!), then go buy his song on Amplifier! It’s only $1.99NZ, so… give it up!

Honourable mentions: The Mixtape Show (extremely enjoyable, I have been playing this constantly for two days, mixtape 118 is especially great); late-night phone conversations full of laughter with cute boys with good voices; letting episodes of The Girls Next Door play while I clean my house; the question What is one thing you can do today to “try on” the life you say you want? (via @TheQuantumCoach); sweet girls who send you “feel better” tea; 2 hour phonecalls with Simon; being a French new-wave movie (boy with dapper haircut lying on the bed, girl in lingerie smoking by the window, at night, talking about the nature of love); 10,000 Twitter updates (WHAT!); anticipation of The Box (oh you & your filthy mind); cake for breakfast; also, avocado sushi rolls for breakfast; making arrangements to see my friends; MF Doom as wake-up music; making my bed in the mornings (a friend of mine said to me recently, “An unmade bed is the first sign that your life is out of control”, & now I am meticulous about it); S&M salads; being pulverised by the masseuse; upcoming indoor picnics with cute girls & a pup; looking at shoes online ALL DAY; a comment on a new Ludacris track which said “this get the panties off straight up” (aaaaamazing); seducing Luis Tovar from Pretty Much Amazing via Twitter — him & his dad, the pirate; good soup; shout-outs on my friend LAYFE‘s radio show; getting as much sleep as I feel I need; dinner with some of my favourite people; Venus going direct (thank you); invitations to visit other cities, & the return of bunnyhair! (The thrill will be short-lived, I assure you, but I do like a change!)

“Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains two descriptions: might have, & should have.” — Louis E. Boone

It’s that time of the week where I invite you to pull up a chair, grab a cushion, crawl into my lap or whatever you like, & participate! Gimme some sugahhh! Odds are excellent that if you’re even reading this you have a pretty privileged existence, & you probably already have everything you need to survive… The happiest people are always those who have the ability to look around them & appreciate whatever they already have — rather than constantly thinking about what they don’t (aka don’t have)! So think about what you’re super-happy & thankful for today, & let us know! It’s no good without your contribution, we’re waiting for you! Lovingly, of course… !
