Things I Love Thursday

It’s such a beautiful day & almost the weekend — what better reason do you need to make a huge list of things you LURVE?!

Here are my favourite things from the week we’ve just had!

<3 This ridiculous series of events: 1. Dave Navarro following me on Twitter; 2. Direct messaging him to ask for tickets to see Nine Inch Nails & Jane’s Addiction in Toronto; 3. Him replying, “Of course!”; 3. Going to the show & getting amazing seats & passes to the aftershow; 4. Messages from Dave at the end of the night which end “xoxo”, aw, bless. If you’re thinking about going to see NINJA, you definitely should — it was a great experience, & they only have a few dates left so don’t dilly-dally! P.S. Um, helloooooooo... !

<3 Having new make-up to play around with because it is surely one of the best things of all time. My newest crush is Maybelline Mineral Power foundation. It cost pretty much nothing, I love the consistency & it’s nice to think I am doing something good for my skin, as opposed to throwing on a whole bunch of stuff to clog me up.

<3 This one cute boy who my friend has nicknamed “The Dish” (because he is a dish). Um, he is pretty excellent & taking up a LOT of my mental space right now. Blush, blush, hi, um, hi.

<3 My friends in general — From married vegans in Gisborne to pink-haired male dynamos in California, they are so great to me & I love them.

<3 Using the word “adorbs”. It’s adorbs. Fin.

& lots of little things. Viz…

<3 Honourable mentions: When you go into Lush Cosmetics & come out smelling like it; forgetting that you have your Lush purchases in your handbag & getting a pleasant olfactory surprise whenever you open it; taking your friends shopping, getting them to try new things & seeing their excitement about how good they look; typing “Tarina Tarantino -kitty -Barbie” into an eBay search & browsing until my eyes fall out of my head; the NINJA 2009 Tour Sampler (download! Rejoice!); when you find a really talented photographer’s Flickr stream & go through favouriting pages & pages worth of pictures; chilling out with my friend Neil & eating ice-cream & talking about writing every night (having anyone to talk about writing with is so, so awesome); boys who draw pictures for me; boys who write songs for me; boys who write poems for me; um I guess any boy who does anything creative for me in general… I like that stuff; fried pickles (!!! My friend introduced me to them recently & it is true love for sure); sparkly pink helmet anticipation (!!!); Haagen-Dazs Mayan Chocolate ice-cream; Canadian strawberries (so sweet & juicy!); dancing around my friend’s apartment; remembering how very easy it is to manifest whatever you want (all you need is a vision & lots of love for it); exercising; that the ATM machines here say “Welcome / Bonjour”; my new liquid Lip Smacker in “sugar crystals” flavour (it smells like plastic dolls from the 80s, do you know that smell?); going back & watching old episodes of Gossip Girl; that Jolt Cola still exists in Canada! (& holy hell does it give you an epic rush); pickle-flavoured Pringles (hello my mind is blown); making birthday cards for dogs; Shoppers (wow Canada, you did good), & finally, this photo of Marilyn Manson by David LaChapelle. I have always loved it.

Things I Love Thursday

<3 Music to feel dreamy to: Sun Kil Moon’s April; Tiger Army – Cupid’s Victim; Marvin Gaye – My Precious Love; Pornos For Pyros – Tahitian Moon; Beastie Boys – She’s Crafty; The Cure – The Caterpillar (whoah, I had forgotten how great this song is!); Marilyn Manson’s Portrait Of An American Family (definitely an-oldie-but-a-goodie territory); Jose Gonzalez’s In Our Nature; Lisa Germano – Trouble; Concrete Blonde – Joey; Lauryn Hill’s MTV Unplugged. (Do you guys like it when I post music?)

Things I Love Thursday

“People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yummy. I feel all satisfied & gleeful! Okay moony moon moon, it’s your turn. Let’s talk about LOVE! <3 <3 <3 ! Please tell me all the delicious things you can think of!

Love letters & feather headdresses,

  4. Aldous Huxley. I’m in the midst of his book Island, and I already feel it changing my life. It gave me new energy and direction in a time of spiritual disorientation.

Summertime, and the livin’ is eaaaasyyyyy. Wholesome days, nights full of laughter. Spontaneous hijinks.

Bubbles. I took an excursion to the town Square yesterday wearing a bright turquoise skirt, a delicious hummingbird tee, and absurdly large, stripey sunglasses, leaving a trail of bubbles in my wake. People stared. It was glorious.

  7. Although this has been a fairly crap week, I guess there are still good things:

-Finishing my job up as a cocktail waitress (no more creepy drunks asking for my number every weekend)

    -Naps

-Getting every CD that the record label I work for has put out so far (granted it’s only 4, but all at once!)

-Rocking out to the newest of the CDs and getting really hyper in my new fishy PJ pants (http://dailybooth.com/MimsieSky/424828)

    -Burritos from Moe’s Southwest…YUM

-My Weekly BlogTV show. I love my peeps so much! We have a blast and I never want to end it to go to bed!

-Getting my first f/t job Paycheck in 6 months!

-Dreaming up and planning the design for my TUTU which will be worn to a No Doubt concert and to a HUGE YouTube gathering in NYC this summer!

-The anticipation of a trip to Sephora tomorrow! EEE!

YAY! (I’m already in a better mood!)

  8. I really want to see NINJA, but at the moment, sadly, forward-planning is rather too much of a luxury for me, my life’s too full of work (both day-job and study) to plan for things like that! I may well just buy tickets and hope however.

My TiLT is here sparkleandglitter.co.uk/2009/0… It’s a bit of a short one this week as I’ve spent most of my time working or revising, but I find them so uplifting to write that even though I’ve sort of taken a break from blogging this week, I felt compelled to post!

My boyfriend passing his PANCE exam so he can begin work as a Physician Assistant! Thank GOD! So proud of him!

Going to visit my grandparents today who are both the most amazing and inspiring people. I think about all they’ve lived through and seen, all their stories and 60 years of marriage, my grandfather in the war and my grandmother back home writing him letters on the very typewriter I am to inherit!

New jewelry and summer reading, both of which I’m working on blogs about.

  15. I also love playing with new makeup!! Weirdly, I also like rearranging my makeup in my palette, so I use them in different combinations.

I’ve realized I love makeup because it looks like a pile of candy.

Lots of love for MAC Cosmetics, as well as Shopper’s Drug Mart (have you been to the big boutique ones that have the high-end cosmetics AND groceries? Hahaha…)

Also, a love + hate for Skittles because they taste sooo good and I can’t stop eating them – but they are slowly (quickly?) dissolving my body from the inside out.

  30. YES! I’ve been waiting for TILT all morning!

Firstly- -The BOY is a DISH!! Woo, go on with your bad self, Gala! (Yes, cute boys make me say dorky things like that. It’s pretty much a scientific fact)
Secondly- -Thanks so much for your magical date ideas!

    Alrights, here we go:

    - My sister’s university graduation this weekend. She has overcome so very, very much in her life, and it was quite the triumphant moment when she was up on that stage, getting her degree. – I painted my nails (something I rarely do), and they’ve already started to chip- -but they look even cuter chipped then perfectly applied. – I’m STILL over the moon about this one: I was at the Montreal Jewish General two days ago, dashing to my appointment, when a really nice (and cuuuuute!) guy stopped me and asked me out! What THE?! In a hospital!? I live an hour away from the city, but I told him that I’d probably be in for a follow-up appointment (Ahahaha! Dorkiest line ever!) I then gave him my e-mail address (in front of the entire crowded waiting room, no less), so how amazing would it be if he e-mails? Even stranger, I was wearing ill-fitting jeans, my glasses, a bumpy ponytail, a sweater that was chosen purely for its comfort appeal. Stunning! Haha AND I’m quite tall (6’2), so most guys are (stupidly) far too intimidated to approach me. Sooo, if I may appeal to everyone in the iCiNG bowl, if you could cross your fingers, pray (if that’s your bag), and send good vibes along my way, I’d mucho appreciate it!

  38. - Eating corn bread and banana bread with tea for breakfast, while listening to Dead Kennedys and Depeche Mode albums.

    - Rainy days (like today).

    - Going to a concert today!

    - Lots of bullshit things that need to get done before I go to the concert, that are easy to tick off the list.

    - Going into the Goodwill and finding EXACTLY what you were looking for (down to the most minute detail), and for dirt cheap.

    - Seeing a piece of clothing, realizing that it’s so “you,” and then having a minor epiphany about what your personality, as expressed through clothing, is.

    - The possibility of having a non-crappy birthday in a few days.

  47. Star Trek – I went with my husband and sons, rolling my eyes and sighing. It was REALLY GOOD! I wasn’t bored AT ALL!

Frost – ooh yeah, baby: hat/gloves/scarf/coat.

Outrageous Fortune: It’s back, and there’s a character called Nadine – I nearly fell off the couch with excitement! And who doesn’t love Charles Mesure? Mmmm . .

Books – The Good Mayor by Andrew Nicoll and My Judy Garland Life by Susie Boyt; both so sweet and enriching. Recommended!

Queen’s Birthday weekend: Went up north, no internet, no cellphone coverage, just lots of sleeping and reading the papers and soaking up the glories of nature and having dinner made for me.

Honourable mention: Emails about Dave Navarro – I laughed with glee!

  50. My TILT:

+ Shooting Stars.. Late Sunday night (before Mem. Day) I was walking home & it was so clear. I thought how nice it would be to see a shooting star, so I looked up & saw one streak across the sky at that precise moment. Magic!

+ Walking alone with my ipod, noticing everything, drinking in nature.

+ Silly dance parties to Jackson 5 & Stevie Wonder

+ Getting the sweetest compliment from a sweet guy I haven’t spoken to in 4 months

+ Pistachio soft serve ice cream with oodles of rainbow sprinkles.

+ Knowing good things are going to come my way..

  51. Love:

    - unexpected texts from a cute boy – getting butterflies waiting for replies from cute boy – drunk/high 5am philosophising (we found solutions to all of the world’s problems that morning, but sadly we have since forgotten what they were) – dancing wildly to hot chip remixes – taking a new friend to my favourite club & having a wildly fun night – deep fried pizza. seriously. om nom. – going to a fancy dress party as a zombie & scaring many children and passers by in the street (very much like that manson photograph, actually!) – the word “spangles”. – having days off just to laze in the sun, read comics and listen to mix cds.

    * spending time with my family and realising I’m missed while I’m away

*shopping sprees (two in a row!)

*new shoes (part of shopping spree, but they deserve their own mention)

    * laughing hysterically in the middle of a fancy department store with friends

  72. Since it was my first day back at work today this summer, I’m going to make my TILT work-related. But not boring!

-seeing friends from work that I haven’t seen in 8 mos. since I’ve been away at school

-realizing that I still remember how to do my job. I’m a server at a pub, and I still remember how to serve (yay!), I’m just a little rusty with the computer/credit card stuff.

-seeing pub regulars and catching up with them

-the ridiculous welcome and praise that my boss gave me in front of all the other staff this morning in our pre-shift meeting. “She’s back for her third summer with us…blah blah… she works so hard, etc.” It was kind of embarrassing around the new staff, but it was really nice of him.

    -half price pub food!

    -the beautiful, sunny patio.

-looking forward to gorgeous summer nights after my shift is done, kicking back with friends from work and the regulars, drinking Black Velvets. Then, heading off to the nightclub du jour (or should I say du nuit?), staying out til the wee hours of the morning, and then rallying in the morning and getting ready for the onslaught of a HUGELY busy lunchtime rush.

Gala, I hope you’re having a great time in Toronto!! I’d love to read about what you’ve been up to in the city. I’m born and raised in T.O., and it would be neat to see what you think of our city!

  77. Oh Thursday, how I lurve thee! A lot of my things this week are linked up!

~having the entire afternoon to drink. You can actually feel the effects of the alcohol and not pass out right away (we are not alcoholics)...I told him I would get any body mods done that he thinks is awesome/sexy.
~My boyfriend told me about a dream he had. I think this is particularly romantic, despite how silly they can be. It is letting me see into how he sees things, and i get to learn more about him (we have been together for 2.5 years, and I still think we can learn and grow).
~www.bmezine.com. My boyfriends dream involved me getting piercings, which I was kind of into anyway. I had been too scared to get it done before, but there are always many reasons to not do something. go for the reason to do it!
~my new nipple rings and clit (specifically triangle) ring. I had to do these in 2 visits because the place i went to had 2 different piercers, and the one doesn’t do clit piercings. I did get to see an adorable rottweiler puppy (he climbed into my lap and got hiccups. SO CUTE!) Very happy with my new piercings!

~Not having a car. My boyfriend and I both work at the local Taco Bell. It’s nice having some time to myself…and getting free mistakes!

    *Running 3000m at zone today

    *Yoga dvds. Love.

*Being surprised every bloody day by my closet friends which reminds me why I love them to the moon and back.

*Making my lunch everyday and putting everything in pyrex and cute containers.

    *Makeup. Wearable art.

*Writing a massive english essay then working out for an hour, then having the bestest most nourishing sleep. I love sleep!

Dying my hair and not staining everything Cherry Bomb coloured for once.

Giving my mum a manicure after she’s had a bad day at work, while watching Dawson’s Creek.

Eating an orange on the train and exclaiming to my friend “This orange tastes like Tanzania!” (funny how a taste can take you back somewhere just as strongly as a smell does).

    Bright blue eyeshadow. Nuff said.

Leopard print tights under my new (p)leather miniskirt.

Watching L.A. Ink in bed at 2am with my cat.

Making jokes about how scary Lady Gaga is… Quite scary.

Listening to Pantera as loud as I can handle when I drive to work.

Sewing a backpatch onto an old denim jacket and feeling like this could either be the best or worst fashion step I have ever taken. :P

  101. - My boyfriend getting 61% in an exam I thought he’d failed! :D I am so proud, I know he’s going to do awesomely in the rest of them – My exams being over! – Friends who throw me amazing leaving parties – All the presents I got at said party! Goes to show me how well they know me… a dress in my favourite colours from one of my favourite shops! Plus a massive collage of pictures of us – Playing trivial pursuit (and winning!) – Spice Girls the movie. So tacky, I love it. – Only two days til I’m on my way to visit the boyfriend! Squeee! – Memorising the whole of Batty Rap (the name is BATT-AY!) – Home made bread drool

  102. - the universe intervening. i am getting a giant cosmic slap on the wrist and a warning not to rebound.

    - my yoga class. i feel like i’ve been beaten up but in a good way!

    - swimming at the lovely tiny local pool.

    - possibility. endless possibilities for good things.

    - eating. who says eating your feelings is bad? i’m embracing it.

    - realising that i no longer want to live with my parents (although at a bad time, since i have three months to go at home). independence!

My new tattoo; impromptu parties with old friends; open roads; upcoming appointment with my college’s transfer adviser; good deals at Old Navy; Starbucks skinny vanilla lattes; people watching & laughing at bizarre conversations; spending the afternoon with Amberly; Flexeril (I’ve been having crazy muscles spasms in my back recently).

  105. For some reason Joey is one of those songs that pops in my head when the world is silent or I’m doing the laundry. It’s a total gateway song – usually followed by that K’s Choice song “Not an Addct” which of course leads to 4 non-blondes “what’s up” which leads to me thinking about the cranberries which leads me to thinking about My So Called Life which leaves me nostalgic and wanting straight shiny red hair. xoxo
