Tipple Of Choice?

[ 1 May 2007 ]

Last night (at the Red Door Burlesque — yes, for the second time), I discovered my “new drink”. It’s been months since I really had a drink, I just don’t do it much anymore. But last night I drank violette liqueur over ice & it was AMAZING. A beautiful, rich purple colour with the taste of crushed flowers. It doesn’t get any better than that, really.

I used to be a caipiroska girl, but it is upsetting the number of bartenders who don’t actually know how to make one! Then I moved on to Amaretto sours, but eventually they lost their appeal too.

What do you normally drink?

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  1. usually i drink water, or if they have them, i will order a vanilla italian soda. personally i have never had a drop of alcohol, so i can’t make any recommendations there… although virgin pina-coldas in the summer are a favorite treat.

  2. A Toblerone! It contains Baileys, dark creme de cacao, franjelico, honey and cream. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen one on a cocktails list, but my sister plays around making cocktails, so I only have to go visit her to indulge.
Otherwise, some kind of champagne cocktail – bubbles make me bubbly!

  3. an elderflower martini is my favourite thing to drink, as well as rose vodka. i do like creme de violette – but if i’m in a more standard bar, then i’ll drink a mojito or a glass of merlot :)

  6. I don’t drink much since I’m always driving and it’s so expensive (especially the drinks I like) but when I do, it’s Alize Red and cranberry juice. I also like Malibu and pineapple juice.

  10. I also love the midori! It is so very fantastically green and yummy and if you mix it with lemonade or coke it tastes like a sweetshop!! :)

  11. Generally I’m a vodka, lemon and lime kinda gal (very Vanilla, I know) or even the vodka, lime & soda but lately I’ve found the joys of Mojito’s. Nothing like a Cuban drink to warm your toes during winter :)

  12. I love and adore mint chocolate martinis. But they must be dry dry dry (no creamy liquour in mine!).

Oh, and once I had a ginger champagne cocktail that was to die for. Definitely the best drink I have ever had. Unfortunately, due to the fact it cost the same as my dinner, it was a one off deal.

  15. Gwen, I have no idea where you are, but Starks in Auckland, NZ does a damned fine ginger champagne cocktail for a perfectly reasonable price

    <3 Ginny · May 2, 03:32 AM · #
  16. Ginny, I did used to be in Auckland, and did visit Starks. Unfortunately I was a student and could barely afford a cup of tea! A friend and I did splurge on cocktails, and now I wish I had had the ginger champagne one!! Of course now that I’m in Canada going back for just a cocktail is probably not the most sensible thing I could do…...

  17. On the other hand, most champagne cocktails are reasonably easy to make – and apparently the trick to the ginger ones is to freshly grate the ginger – time to hit google, methinks!

  18. Mmm… Make mine a Vanilla Martini, thanks. Or a good organic, vegan red wine – no hangover!

Hey Gala, I was all set to go to The Order on Sunday but changed plans at the last minute. Waah.

  19. Dee Dee — No hangover, really?! That is amazing. I wonder why that is? Shame you couldn’t come to the burlesque, this time there was a tiny (like waist height) belly dancer too!

  20. Sulpher in wine usually influences hangovers/headaches. You can get sulpher free wine around (organic most likely) but it can be hard to find.

  21. I forgot Taittinger!

  22. Apple Schnapple is My Drink of choice! Its the Audrey Hepburn version of the Jagerbomb… Its a Shot of apple Schnapps dropped into half a glass of Chilled RedBull And skulled! When I was in Japan I drank nothing but a drink called Calpis Bartime I drank so much of it because it was so hot and because it tasted so good!
I normally end up drinking Champagne anyway.. because they normally dont having anything i like!
