<3 How? Slick your fingertips with Curry Up Don’t Be Late! by OPI. Play it up with gilded accoutrements that flash but don’t scream.

Candace swept into her international relations lecture at the last minute. As she set her handbag down with an unceremonious clunk, she took a long swig of water & surveyed the room. She stepped up to the lectern & cleared her throat. “Let me tell you what I know about post-positivist epistemology,” she said.

<3 How? Pair with form-fitting tops & plenty of skin. Add fun accessories so you look more dapper than belly-dancer!

Minnie’s favourite thing to do after attending an environmental rally or a peace march was smile sweetly at shop-keepers while she shoplifted petty items — mints, lip gloss, key-rings. It helped keep the balance, she rationalised.

<3 How? Try something bold, something which intimidates you a bit — & don’t be afraid to be “matchy-matchy”!

Jennifer loathed going to the dentist, so she wore her favourite cardigan & stuck her thumbs through the self-made holes in the sleeves. As she lay back in the chair, she tuned out the dentist’s incessant prattling & imagined diving for sunken treasure, naked.

Shirt dresses

<3 How? Couple with natural fabrics for an immaculately crisp summer look. Add a slip in a plain colour to avoid unintentional exposure!

Xenia’s job at the museum made her pretty happy, but she would never admit that her favourite part of the day was sitting in the Egyptian room eating dumplings when everyone else had gone home.

  1. How lovely!

    <3 Luna · Jun 26, 05:59 AM · #
  2. ooooh i love when you do the outfits matched up with the imaginary people! one of my favorite articles was the one about the shoes and the fictional people who wear them.

i have a snake arm cuff just like the one in the picture, except i think it only has one coil & red eyes (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v41/gwennabat/l_ee532263d40b12a75550d6adae48a8a5.jpg)

i am a big fan of culats when it gets hot in the summer (i have a pair of hot pink and bold green chunky paisley ones and another in leopard that looks like a skirt!) so i am psyched about these harem pants.

they’re a bit equestrian, which is a look i love that always seems to be done wrong in fashion shoots. the equestrian influenced look can be really low-key, subtle, and un-preppy if done right.

speaking of equestrian & trends, check these beauties out!:

    possothespat.com/lookbook.html

i saw a write-up on them in Missbehave’s summer issue & i swear i’m gonna buy them no matter how much they are when they come out this summer!

  3. “post-positivist epistemology,” haha. oh how I love philosophy. postmodernism is scintillating.

    <3 Olivie · Jun 26, 06:18 AM · #
  4. A slip! That’s what my shirt dress is missing – thanks, Ms. Gala!

    <3 Kirstin · Jun 26, 06:19 AM · #
  5. The harem pants scare me a little, but the rest … bellissimo! Especially the shirt dress outfit. Such a great combo of crisp and laid-back.

    <3 Sal · Jun 26, 06:22 AM · #
  6. Ooh, love the harem pants! Still I’m not that secure showing all that skin. though the top does have to be form fitting. And that shirt dress is adorable!

    <3 Marie · Jun 26, 06:26 AM · #
  7. Rachel Radness! — They are one of my favourite types of articles to create, so it’s great that everyone else enjoys them as much as I do! I love culottes too. I bought a pair of high-waisted, belted linen ones from H&M (I wore them in an outfit photo with my mouse ears) & they’re incredible. I am mad about harem pants though, I am desperate to buy a pair but haven’t seen many around. & whoah! Spats ahoy! They are amazing...

    Olivie — I don’t know anything about it, I Wikipedia’d “international relations” ;D

Kirstin — Oui! It also means you can sit down with your legs folded under you & not worry about it! (My friend last night was wearing a shirt dress & she had to sit in an awkward fashion the whole time!)

Sal — Hee. I loooove harem pants! They are so weird & fabulous.

    <3 Gala · Jun 26, 06:30 AM · #
  8. Oooh, those outfits are absolutely adorable. Harem pants are really growing on me now!

    <3 Madeleine · Jun 26, 06:36 AM · #
  9. I love this kind of article, they’re so much fun to read!

And what makes it even better? Not only have I been wearing gold nail polish for the past week, but I’m also in IR! You’re GOOD, haha.

    <3 Lisa · Jun 26, 06:37 AM · #
  10. Gala: These are fantastic! The prints trend picture is largely my style for this summer (heat and humidity permitting), except I pair that cardigan with 1920s style blouse and long skirt: a sort of British Librarian Loves Fashion with some short socks and heels.

Rachel: AMAZING link! Those spats are fantastic! I want to own all of them, right away!

    <3 Emily · Jun 26, 06:37 AM · #
  11. Ooh more character sketches, my favorite! I love the last shirtdress the best, i think. It’d look good with cowboy boots too.

    <3 hyuju · Jun 26, 06:45 AM · #
  12. These are lovely! Some beautiful items.

    <3 Alice · Jun 26, 06:47 AM · #
  13. i’m so the harem pants girl! oh dear, this is the sweeetest post ever!! out of all, i like minnie and her outfit. plus, it seems she really is a balanced girl ;)
pleasy-please do posts like these more often, i’m having a blast reading them! looots of kisses

    <3 Daiane · Jun 26, 06:51 AM · #
  14. Oooh. I’m absolutely loving that shirt dress!

    <3 L · Jun 26, 06:56 AM · #
  15. I love the idea of harem pants but I think I’d just look a bit MC Hammer in them :P

    <3 Joanne · Jun 26, 07:03 AM · #
  16. I love “Jennifer’s” outfit! And I’m totally the international relations girl— usually late to lectures, but very vocal when I get there. Next week: gold nail polish!

    <3 miss morgan · Jun 26, 07:12 AM · #
  17. These are my favorite posts :)

    <3 Madeline · Jun 26, 07:23 AM · #
  18. I especially love shirt dresses

    <3 vanessa · Jun 26, 07:25 AM · #
  19. Ooooohhhh I am craving those triple strap pumps.
And, thanks to your last post on Sera Beak, I ordered her book off of Amazon.com today! I read the introduction and it just really clicked with me, and it was as if I was supposed to buy it. So I did! Thank you Gala for (hopefully) helping to find myself, and a new pair of shoes as well! :)

    <3 nicole · Jun 26, 07:29 AM · #
  20. Yes I thoroughly enjoy these posts along with everyone else! I want potato dumplings now silly gala :(

    <3 kitten` · Jun 26, 07:37 AM · #
  21. I love it when you do this. I’m still expecting a book one day. Also, self-made holes in the sleeves – absolutely! :D

    <3 Nadine · Jun 26, 07:37 AM · #
  22. The holes in the sleeves are a charming touch :)

Also, Xenia=absolutely who i will be when i grow up a little more! (I’m only 15). It’s uncanny how much that suits my personality & my dress sense. & I am fascinated by ancient Egypt, too!

    <3 Clare · Jun 26, 07:49 AM · #
  23. Love those harem pants, but I’ve seen something similar (well…ALMOST similar!) at American Apparel.
    store.americanapparel.net/rsa5…
But they’re pretty cute none the less!

Also love the last combo. I’ve been looking around for a proper shirt-dress too! Plus, after much whining on my part, my parents finally agreed to buy me a pair of brown motorcycle boots. I’M SO EXCITED!

    <3 Retro.Bunny · Jun 26, 08:17 AM · #
  24. Ohhh how I adore your imaginary people, they are divine!
    Always,
    love love love

    <3 Meghann · Jun 26, 08:23 AM · #
  25. nail polish! my specialty!

Curry up has a lot of yellow in it, and doesn’t look so great on most skin tones. I recommend Lippmann Nefertiti, it’s absolutely gorgeous with a foil finish and will look lovely on most people!

    <3 Laura · Jun 26, 08:41 AM · #
  26. Lela Jacobs (a very funky Wellington designer) makes the best harem pants, in so many colours and fabrics that I can’t decide which pair I want most. Minnie is definitely my kinda gal. I’m also a big fan of creating imaginary polyvore women with fantastic lives.

    <3 Gem Wilder · Jun 26, 08:50 AM · #
  27. “diving for sunken treasure, naked” that made my day! I looooooove this articles :D.
Oh, and thanks for introducing me to OPI nail polishes! They are quite rare in here, but the other day I found some in a cheap, lost manicure place and bought the “siberian nights” polish, which is GORGEOUS! yay!

    <3 fran · Jun 26, 08:55 AM · #
  28. LOVE these outfits Gala, especially the second one. Where is that dress from? I MUST HAVE!

    <3 violet · Jun 26, 09:11 AM · #
  29. Where are the boots in the last pile from? I’ve had a craving for boots for a few weeks and I think those are it…

    <3 cuileann · Jun 26, 09:41 AM · #
  30. Lisa — Haha, that is amazing & creepy & awesome all at the same time!

hyuju — At first I looked for cowboy boots to go with it, but couldn’t find any I liked enough… so I settled on the Fryes :>

nicole — Thrilled to oblige you!

kitten` — Aww! Go & get potato dumplings, then!

Nadine — Just you wait! :D

Retro.Bunny — I’ve seen those! They don’t have the theatrical quality of harem pants, though! & congratulations on your new boots… I hope you enjoy them!

Laura — Awesome, thank you for the recommendation!

Gem Wilder — Harem pants are so good. I tried on a pair the other day which were blue tartan (!) but they were more I-pooped-myself than I’m-a-style-queen. Haha!

fran — I love OPI, I think their nail-polish is the best best best ever.

violet & cuileann — I forgot to link to the sets so you could get information about all the outfits! But I’ve fixed it, so now you can shop with wild abandon! ;D

  33. Love it! :3

    <3 Michelle · Jun 26, 10:39 AM · #
  34. sigh. i love you, so very very much :) come back to melbourne and be my wife, pretty pls? :D

my best friend and i were having a discussion the other day about gold nail polish – i was showing her some metallic silver one i have from OPI and she said that i’d look better in gold. so i do believe you’re psychic, miss!

and i have to agree with everyone, i love it when you match the set with the imaginary girl… it’s my dream one day that i’ll find you using a set for a girl named ‘simone’ :D

    <3 s11m · Jun 26, 11:35 AM · #
  35. Hehehe all these gold rings make me happy! I recently got one at an extremely cheap flea market that probably gets their inventory from China, but it looked like a couple thousand bucks – smooth, solid, and a pretty rhinestone-encrusted bow at the top. And I know the perfect cocktail dress to match…

That blue ring in the third (dentist) set looks so 90’s, like those jelly-rubber things that came in Easter eggs and goodie bags! Major love for the return of one really cute era.

    <3 ansi · Jun 26, 11:44 AM · #
  36. This made my day, I love it when you create people behind the outfits :)
I’m especially loving the shirtdress look, not only is the outfit something I would wear, but also sitting in the Egyptian room eating dumplings is totally something I’d do!

    <3 Aurelie · Jun 26, 11:59 AM · #
  37. i’ve been searching for a shirt dress all through summer and now it’s winter here. i find it really hard to find one that fits. they are all too big for me :(

hahaha i like that bag “my other bags are prada” :D

my sister is in love with OPI too!! btw, gala what’s the name of that blue nailpolish you use? i really like it!! i’ve been looking for a colour like that but can’t seem to find any- they all seem to turn out really blackish.

    <3 Leanne · Jun 26, 12:56 PM · #
  38. I’ve noticed shirt dresses are really coming into fashion up in Brisbane right now (which puzzles me because it is progressively getting colder) but soooo many of these girls aren’t wearing anything underneath! No hot shorts, no tights or stockings, no long slip as Gala suggested. Ladies, I don’t want to see what you had for breakfast no matter how trim you thighs are!

    <3 Steph-knee · Jun 26, 01:09 PM · #
  39. I love it when you do this! That printed dress and outfit is gorgeous!

    <3 picatoria · Jun 26, 01:26 PM · #
  40. I have that ‘my other bags are prada’ bag, its awesome!

    <3 Clare · Jun 26, 02:47 PM · #
  41. Leanne——it’s called Russian Navy (OPI) but if you can’t find the OPI version CHANEL has the same under BLUE SATIN
When the former first came out, i was the first to be Russian-pedi-ed at my beauty salon—some of the girls were a tad dubious at first, but when they saw the “brave girl” go with some Russian mystery, they looked at it with new eyes ;>
i LOVE it as it glints midnight-navy sparkles by day and femme fatale noire when the sun dips hee (i ended up purchasing the Chanel one…..as a luxurious treat!)
Hope you find it and when you do…...RELISH out loud!

    <3 lulubrownskin · Jun 26, 03:02 PM · #
  42. gala darlin’ you have such a storybook imagination-it’s marvellous :>

    <3 lulubrownskin · Jun 26, 03:06 PM · #
  43. Those boots with that shirt dress…I think I’ve just found inspiration for a new outfit this week. I only wish I had a cool job at a museum to go along with it! Lovely post Miss Gala =o)

    <3 Lou · Jun 26, 03:24 PM · #
  44. I’m loving the harem pants! I would wear that outfit in a heartbeat!! In fact Minnie and I sound quite similar ;P Anyone know where I could get harem pants in the US, either online or in Michigan?
P.S. I ran out and bought The Red Book as soon as i finished reading your post about it. I’m totally in love!

    <3 Julie · Jun 26, 03:36 PM · #
  45. This is really inspirational. I love these outfits, especially the harem pants and prints. Funny, actually, I had a dream last night that I went shopping and bought a pair of pants like that! Weird coincidence!

    <3 Kerry · Jun 26, 03:51 PM · #
  46. I think you designed that last outfit for me…I absolutely love it! I need to get a shirt dress, STAT. :P

    <3 Lizzie · Jun 26, 04:19 PM · #
  47. lulubrownskin – thank-you so much! yes i’ve seen the chanel one around and have been eye-ing it! i will definitely “relish it” when i find it :DD
    thank-you again~

    <3 Leanne · Jun 26, 05:27 PM · #
  48. Help me Fairy God Gala…what will I wear to the ball ? – the theme is Black tie with tribute to your favourite musical.
My favourite musical is My Fair Lady or the one where Marilyn sings “Diamonds are a girls best friend”

Ideas will be much appreciated and fun for you I expect !

Were there any famous musical where they carried puppies? I can only think of the wizard of Oz but that’s not black tie ??...perhaps if I wear red shoes?

    <3 Donna · Jun 26, 05:53 PM · #
  49. I love that eco bag with the Harem Pants trend. I don’t actually have a Prada bag to match what the bags says but I’d take an eco bag over Prada anytime (unless it’s free). You should do more of these posts, Gala. Have you ever considered writing a novel? Something in the line of Shopaholic? I’m pretty sure you could pull it off. :)

    <3 Caroline · Jun 26, 06:15 PM · #
  50. Leanne-

I noticed you discussing the blue nail polish…may i suggest something? Russian navy is THE perfect navy, blue satin is darker and will look black to most people (just my opinion!) Opi “Yoga-ta get this blue!” is even lighter than Russian Navy, more of a jewel toned blue.

hope this helps! (I point this out because I know many were disappointed with Blue Satin)

    <3 Laura · Jun 26, 07:17 PM · #
  51. ooohh…interesing..but..gala..
when can we have more guy-centric fashion posts for the fashionably daring, huh?

    <3 curves · Jun 26, 07:24 PM · #
  52. I love everything in your site. you’re so so so talented.

    <3 annabanana · Jun 26, 09:55 PM · #
  53. its weird that you used the name Xenia for one of your girls. An old acquaintance of mines (named Xenia) Dad just got arrested for being in Russia Mafia, the boss of some massive group based in St. Petersburg. So I was thinking about her while reading this.
love the sets btw very imaginative!

    <3 martha x · Jun 26, 10:26 PM · #
  54. Hehe, these are so much fun xD

    <3 Michelle · Jun 26, 11:56 PM · #
  55. i squeal in delight when you post these stories!
perhaps you’ll write a girlie novel or grown-up fairy tale book, complete with illustrations some day? ;-)

    <3 emily · Jun 27, 02:19 AM · #
  56. Hey, my real name is Xenia! :D

    <3 Doe Deere · Jun 27, 03:45 AM · #
  57. i love the last one! i might have to buy a shirt dress now….if only i could have a job in a museum.

    <3 Helen · Jun 27, 04:33 AM · #
  58. Funny, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of gold nail varnish lately, I do have a bottle, but I’ve never used it.

I have many more silver accessories than gold because I prefer silver normally…maybe I should branch out, co-ordinate with the nail varnish!

    <3 Lady Julianne le Fay · Jun 27, 10:13 AM · #
  59. It seems that everyone is into the navy nail polish buzz at the moment. Strange coincidence. I had a sudden craving for some last week and got the OPI Yoga-ta get this blue. It’s a little more royal than what I was looking for, but if I layer it over a slightly darker shade (I used MAC’s Molasses) it’s the perfect navy polish. I’m so happy with it. I’m also happy that I get to use the MAC one under it, because on it’s own it was hideous and a total waste of money.

    <3 Gem Wilder · Jun 27, 02:33 PM · #
  60. I just painted my nails with Curry Up Don’t Be Late! it looks so good! I’m glad you put the picture up or I never would have thought to paint my nails gold!

    <3 Kelly · Jun 28, 01:33 AM · #
  61. Gala, I’ve been searching for gold nail polish forever now (since I first saw Scarface and fell in love with his gold and black office). Thank you!

    <3 Jami · Jun 28, 06:08 AM · #
  62. These are my favourite posts, too. Can’t wait to see more. xo

    <3 rachel · Jun 30, 05:46 PM · #
  63. Ooh, Minnie sounds like such an intriguing character! My favourite outfits are hers and Jennifer’s. I like the idea of being intimidated by something I wear; imagine what others must feel!
