What's In My Bag?

[ 31 July 2007 ]

I ripped this idea off from the adorable Mel of Beijing Baby, but didn’t do it anywhere near as well as her! Collages are not my strong point, eep!

Here’s what was in my bag today…

What's in my bag?
Click here for the huge version!

& just for Nadine (!), here is a close-up of my bag & the charm dangling off it! It was a necklace, but I asked the woman to swap the chain for a keyring clasp… ta-da, instant bag charm!

Bag charm

Swarovski crystals, a heart locket, a frame & picture of the Eiffel Tower (you can swap the picture to anything you want!), an Eiffel Tower charm, pearls, a rose quartz bead & a little antique-style key! Love it so much.

Super-love & cupcakes,
Gala <3

  1. The bag charm is lovely! My bag is never that simple, I have sensible things + 100,000 little bits of paper and receipts and such.

  2. Hi, Gala! I have been reading your blog for a while, but this is the very first time to post a comment!

I’m a Japanese currently living in Singapore.
I would say your collage is not bad at all, since the ones on Beijing Baby were not done by herself, but they are actually pages from Japanese magazines, all done by professional designers. ;-)

As for the stuff in my bag…well, my bag has never been that simple, either! lol
Well, what can I do!? I have 2 active young sons, and one of them is still 21-month old!

  3. Oooooh I’m not really into big nice purses because I’m a sloppy and messy girl and usually go with cotton/canvas bags, but I looove that quilted purse and charms (the charms are too cute!); that purse is downright fab darnit! and hooray for taking the moleskine everywhere, mine is attached the palm of my hand as well.

  4. Gala what are you talking about?! That’s an awesome collage! I would have thought you would have had a Cosmo in there instead though LoL
Hope the Cosmo meeting went well! =)

    Yuri the last picture I slaved on photoshop for about 2 hrs over so please don’t say I didn’t do it LoL _;;

  5. hi gala. that collage is so cute. i saw it on beijing baby’s blog too. you literally translated your name, which is quite cute. it says “o-matsuri” which usually means festival or carnival and on the 2nd line, “sai-ai no hito” which means like dearest person. you can also use ‘katakana’, which is a form of the japanese alphabet that uses sounds to make foreign words, so that you can get “gala darling” in japanese.

Yes, you DID it, and it’s really nice! ;-)
Anyway, I have no idea how you girls keep your bags so simple…mine is a real mess…sigh

  11. THANK YOU for the bag charm shots – even cooler than I had thought! (I’m so proud of you! – hahaha!) Confession: I have an Evenstar hanging off my bag because I am Such A Nerd.

Next question – who is the mysterious ‘woman’ you refer to?

    <3 Nadine · Jul 31, 11:29 PM · #
  12. Haha yes, where is the bag charm from?

  14. Eternity — My bag is usually crazy too. There was actually more stuff in mine than is on that collage, but I get tired of things quickly, & I couldn’t be bothered taking photos of my eyedrops, mirror, pen etc. Haha!

Yuri — Hello! Thank you for coming out of the woodwork, yay! I know Mel has corrected you already, but isn’t her collage great?! I love that the background is blue. That was an extra layer of effort I decided I didn’t want to put in! Lazy Gala!

Mae Jane — I have a Moleskine daily planner, & it is the best thing ever. I have a system where I highlight every task I’ve completed with pink, it’s very Virgo but it makes me happy!

Mel — Aw, thank you! No, I won’t be carrying Cosmo around with me until next Monday! (Eep! Insert nail-biting here!)

gilda — Haha, you spotted my ghettofabulous translation skills! I got those characters from dictionary.com ! Thank you for telling me how to say it though, I like the sound of it :>

Pinup_Girl — Gosh, merci beaucoup! That’s very sweet of you to say!

Nadine — The mysterious “woman” was a jewellery seller at the Paddington Markets! She had a huge range of necklaces, bracelets, keyrings etc. I wish I’d bought more from here while I was there, actually!

audrey — Me too! It’ll have to tide me over until I can summon the funds for a 2.55, haha!

  15. ガラ・ダ—リング would be your name in katakana (“Gara Daaringu”) .

(Mine is ナナ・ヴィックストロム – eh, not so nice)

  16. I love posts/ photos of what people have lurking in their bags. I think it’s very representative of the person in general!

    A favorite is this one….

  18. Gala, I have the same phone as you… How on earth did you get a charm on it, I have this one I made myself and for the life of me I can’t get the cord through the lil hole.

  19. Gala – Your bag is so tidy. I’ve just been down to London, so mine is stuffed with receipts and leaflets right now.

Where did you get the bag? It is lovely.

  20. nana — Yay! “Gara” is so cute, haha.

Nubby — I agree, though I always feel like the contents of my bag are boring, haha.

Meg — I love our phone ;D I actually used the back of an earring to push the string through. I pushed it a bit, then used the pin to pull the loop. Does that make sense?!

CatherineL — Thank you! I bought it at David Jones (an Australian department store) but it’s by Trent Nathan.

  21. I know everyone’s said it, but I love that bag too. I don’t let myself get anything nice like that since I’m a mess too. I usually end up with something spilled all over it. I’m thinking about upgrading since I’ve graduated school and thus less likely to find paint and charcoal on my bag, but then the other day I got paint on my cheapo bag. :/ I’m like a living version of PigPen.

    <3 Chesney · Aug 1, 02:50 PM · #
  22. haha! yeah because there isn’t an “L” in the japanese language, so gala becomes gara, just like how gilda, becomes giruda!! haahaha!
