Yoga For Beginners
[ 15 May 2008 ]
Never tried yoga, but want to give it a shot? Wary of walking into an incense-filled room with a whole lot of lean, healthy-looking people in close-fitting pants? Why not try it at home? It’s much less scary & you’ll feel less self-conscious about bending yourself around like spaghetti!
Tara Stiles is a Ford model who makes excellent yoga videos which you can view online. Here are some of my favourite ones… give them a try!
Yoga for beginners by Tara Stiles.
Bend it like Tara Stiles!
Wakey wakey! Morning yoga with Tara Stiles.
There are more videos by Tara available too! You’ll be limber in no time!
Super-love & cupcakes,

Rodney Yee does great DVDs too. A lot of the local YMCAs have yoga classes and your likely to find a much less intimidating range of bodies and experience. Plus, if you join the Y the classes are usually included in your membership unlike many health clubs.

never tried and never will. not so flexible! i rather running to shopping :D
I looooooove yoga! I’ve never felt intimidated and I’ve done a few beginners courses, most of the people who do it are a little older than me and based on looks people would probably assume I’m fitter.
But these older ladies are limber as ANYTHING! I am quite thin but it means nothing! Anyone can be fab at yoga it just takes practice :)
I always feel sore after a big yoga workout but the calming effects on your mind are SO worth it.
Dada! I can’t believe you would say you’d never try it, it honestly is amazing, please reconsider! x
DaDa you don’t have to be flexible to try yoga, it’s the other way round: yoga makes you flexible.
I’ve been doing yoga in my adolescent years (thanks to my dad), and becauise of that I can still join my feet (soles together) on the top of my head, even thouh I rarely do any exercise anymore !
Oooh! I’ve been looking for something like this. I’ve been dying to start yoga but don’t have the money right now to join a studio, so this is perfect! Thanks!
thanks gala!
there are so many yoga videos online i didn’t know where to look, now it’s not a problem anymore :)
thanks gala! i’ve always wanted to try yoga but didn’t know where to start. i LOVE the morning yoga video!! i think i’m going to incorporate that in my morning routine! :)
Yoga is SO amazing! Been doing it for 12 years now and it’s one of the best things you can do for your body and peace of mind. Videos are cool but classes are totally worth it – otherwise it’s easy to either hurt yourself or not get the benefits of the poses you are practising. I still go to classes because a great teacher can always help you get the most out of any pose.
hi ammu! could you give a more detailed explanation of the benefits you’ve noticed given that you’ve been doing yoga for such a long period of time? i’m really interested! how long until you started feeling the benefits mentally + physically?
much appreciated if you answer xx
i couldn’t believe my eyes when i looked at iCiNG today – i just discovered these exact yoga videos yesterday! (Probably at the same time you were watching them, now that we’re almost on the same time zone.) i LOVE Tara! she makes it look so easy, but she goes nice and slow too.
when you started the ITC project, i didn’t know what i wanted to do. but then i discovered yoga about a week into the challenge and it’s become my new addiction. these videos are a big part of it. Great post Gala!
I love yoga! I always find it best to go to a class as normally I have to make an effort to do some exercise – may have to try these videos out though!
Gala, hope you’re having fun in America!
Just this morning my dh & I were talking about trying yoga. He actually brought it up, and I didn’t think he’d ever be interested in something like that. Anyway, I LOL’d when I opened your site just a couple hours after our discussion and saw this – I guess we’ll be giving it a try! Thanks for sharing!
these videos are awesome! I’ve been doing yoga for a bit now and it can be a little overwhelming walking into a room full of already very-bendy people who seem to know exactly what to do, especially if you really don’t know where to start.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I’ve been wanting to start doing yoga since… well, since forever, pretty much, but I made it a resolution this year and never got started. My mom bought this giant yoga technique book when she went to India a few years ago, but I just don’t know where to begin!
hehe i use these videos at home!! mostly because i am a cheapskate sometimes :) but they’re great! unfortunately right now i’m so stiff from acrobatics/modeling work i am afraid that if i tried yoga, i might snap!
I am actually thinking of starting Yoga soon so this post was a lot of help :D
thanks heaps Gala for posting those – I used to do yoga @ my gym but it all got a bit too expensive so I stopped. I got this book from the library to try doing it @ home but the book is so big and confusing I was a bit put off! These videos will definitely help.
thanks so much for the links!!!!! I’ve been dying to try yoga for awhile; I lift weights and do strength training, but I want to get a little more flexible (not to mention yoga would be great to loosen up my muscles… :). I guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow morning! :D
Tara’s bedtime routine is also excellent. Always makes me perfectly sleepy for bed!
I loveeeee yoga, but i haven’t done it for a little while, for about two months! yikes!
it’s such great news to know I can see these routines online:)!
everyone should try yoga at least once. It’s so relaxing, and it calms my restless mind a lot.
Thanks a lot gala:)
I shall be peaceful again!
Infinite x’s & o’s…
Hi Gala,
First time visitor. I found your blog through a blogging book the other day (Problogger) so I came by to take a peek!
WOW...what an awesome blog! Not only the design, but the energy here is wonderful. It’s so nice to see someone create with so much passion…and be so successful!
Wishing you continued blessings!
Aaah, i think I am intimidated by the working of the muscles. I don’t think a lot of people understand how much yoga works you, but it’s tough for people out of shape!
Thanks for the videos, it’ll help on getting on top of it.
I’ve been doing bikram yoga for about 5 months, I absolutely love it. It’s quite possibly the most challenging I’ve ever done, but definitely rewarding.
My body is slowly getting toned, especially my thighs and bum (which is what I wanted). My flexibility has doubled if not tripled, it’s unbelievable.
in love!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
This is JUST What i needed! How do you always have such perfect timing? :D
I’m glad you do! Thnaks so much Gala, this will help me loads!
Vixxie.
Seems like it would be hard to arrange a computer to do a workout video, but I have been wanting to work on my flexibility and looking like a model is pretty good inspiration! Thanks for the idea :)
yey!
i bought a yoga mat and dvd two days ago FINALLY and started working with the dvd yesterday…it’s the perfect sort of workout for me…i love it :D

These videos are great and couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m deciding between trying out rock climbing and yoga. Thanks so much!
