PERFECT PICNIC: A Mixtape!

18 June 2013, 12:25

As promised, I made you a mixtape to accompany the perfect picnic. It’s a little bit different to my normal fare — this one is happy and jingly-jangly, and 97% indie rock.

Some of the highlights include Air, Belle & Sebastian, The Postal Service, Beirut, The Magnetic Fields, and a whole lot of other treats for your eardrums. There’s a few old favourites thrown in for good measure, too!

Celebrate This: International Picnic Day!

Quite frankly, if this mixtape had a slogan, it would be, “Music so good you’ll look forward to uncomfortable silences.”

If a picnic isn’t on your agenda, this mix works equally well for sitting at your desk and blitzing through some tasks!

Love always,

NON-BULLSHIT LOVE SONGS: A Mixtape!

17 May 2013, 11:28

Spring is all about falling in love. Warm weather, long nights and short skirts add up to create a truly amorous atmosphere!

Maybe you’re falling for someone new, or simply rediscovering how wonderful your long-term lover really is. Either way, I created a playlist for you, containing 100% non-bullshit love songs. (Because Kenny G is not awesome.)

Listen to it while you daydream about your boo!

80's TEEN MOVIE: A Mixtape!

80's TEEN MOVIE: A Mixtape!

Last week, I decided to make the ultimate 80’s mixtape. The reason for my madness? Well, I get to flex my funkmaster muscles at The Blogcademy... A little bit. We always have music going during exercises, activities and breaks, and we like it to be upbeat! Usually I just type a random word into 8tracks, cross my fingers and hope for the best. But after too many 80’s slow jams, I decided to take matters into my own hands!

If I had my way, this is what would be playing if I starred in an 80’s teen romantic comedy. For a good chunk of the movie, I would be hanging upside down, off my bed, talking on the phone… And there would definitely have to be a scene at a burger joint with rollerskating waitresses. (I would also have crimped hair and be wearing a lot of neon rubber bracelets at all times.)

This mixtape makes me want to watch every John Hughes movie ever, plus The Wedding Singer, and of course, American Psycho.

“Do you like Phil Collins? I’ve been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn’t understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual…”

I hope you enjoy this one! It’s over 3 hours long (!!!) so it will keep your ears busy for a while!

GYM BUNNY: A Mixtape!

20 March 2013, 09:44

Here’s a gym bunny mixtape to get you pumped up! It’s a goodie, featuring Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Biggie, Dilated Peoples, and waaaaaaay more. I’ve been listening to this while I do push-ups and sweat in an extremely unglamourous fashion!

Let me know if you like it!

My new gym essential is a pre-workout smoothie. I usually start with some filtered water, then add in chia seeds, hemp protein powder, raw cacao, frozen blueberries (or mixed berries), add in a little stevia, and top it with some almond milk. It’s not only delicious, it helps me power through a workout so much; the difference when I don’t drink this concoction beforehand is quite staggering!

In other news, yesterday was amazing: we sold out two-thirds of our seats for The Blogcademy in Melbourne, and a massive chunk of the seats in the other cities on our world tour! Your headmistresses are reeling! I want to do a little jig, I absolutely cannot wait to get crackin’!

By the way, it’s the first day of spring! Best news ever! The birds are singing a beautiful tune right outside my window, the sun is out, and the city smells fresh…

Happy Ostara, everyone!

SHRED: A Mixtape!

20 February 2013, 09:01

A little-known fact? I work out 7 days a week. Okay, sometimes I take Sunday off… But not often!

I always think the most difficult thing about working out is actually leaving the house. It can seem so unappealing, especially if it’s raining, snowing, or otherwise frigid! If you can get yourself out the door, the battle has already been won.

It’s so much easier to leave the house when you have a kicking track playing on your headphones… & it’s so much more fun to do another million reps when the music coming out of the speakers gets your heart racing.

...So I made another workout mixtape. It starts off kind of calm, then gets a bit crazy, then cools down. I hope you like it!

Boom boom boom,

P.S. If you don’t work out, you’ll still love this as a high-energy soundtrack to your daily life! <3 Also, you can listen to my other mixes by clicking this tag!
