Airstream Dreams At The Circus Circus…
Hunter S. Thompson once said, “The Circus Circus is what the whole hep world would be doing on Saturday night if the Nazis has won the war. This is the Sixth Reich.” Home of America’s largest indoor theme park, the Circus Circus is a Las Vegas institution, rich with history, & laden with kitschy goodness. Even better is the fact that the Circus Circus has its own RV park, & that’s where we spent a little time on a Wednesday morning…
Yes, it’s true. Thanks to Kampgrounds of America, Wendy, Colleen & a rad man named Bob, we were able to lounge on the back of an Airstream, pose on a golf cart, & stop a whole lot of RV-totin’ SUV traffic! We had such a great time, & I am so tempted to stay in an Airstream next time I come back to Las Vegas. (At least for one night!)
Who knew you could do such a thing?!
We loved this little lounge area next to the Airstream: it had grass, a bright yellow chair, & a little table (perfect for holding a nice cold drink). I can imagine spending a lot of time there, kicked back in the dappled shadow of the Circus Circus…
Our time there was not entirely without mishap. For example, here is a photo of our high heels sinking into the grass!
So, we were being photographed by two different people: David McNeil & Lisa Devlin. They have incredibly distinct shooting styles, & you can probably immediately tell that these pictures were taken by a couple of people.
Lisa is a goddess with light. She positions herself in exactly the right spot & keeps shooting. The result is a truly gorgeous series of images. In fact, my current favourite photo of myself is one she took (which I’ll be sharing on Thursday!).
David is a master at finding great textures & using them to contrast with his subject. He takes only a few pictures at a time — he’ll tell you where to stand & exactly how he wants you, then snap his shutter twice & move onto the next thing.
Another easy way to tell the difference between their pictures is that Lisa’s have more muted colours, while David’s are very bright & punchy! It was so much fun to work with two photographers, & to see two very different final results.
Okay, are you ready for our “girl band” promo photos?! Here goes…
Try as we might, though, we just couldn’t figure out what our mythical girl band should be called. This morning, I realised something obvious: we should just be called “Criss’ Angels”!
Yeah, I’m looking pretty comfortable just hanging out on the back of a caravan!
We all took a well-deserved break to chow down on some (epic!) sandwiches, & were just about to leave for our second location, when Lisa discovered a three-person swing-seat! Situated on the intersection of RINGMASTER & BLINKO — yes, really! — we climbed aboard & shot some additional pictures before heading off into the desert…
What are you wearing? (Cue heavy breathing, etc.!)
