Carousel -- Week Ending 13th March 2009
[ 13 March 2009 ]
Happy Friday the 13th! (Again!)
8 Things To Remember For SXSWi 2009 from LifeStudent! Timely, no?
Nubs writes about making the most of your wardrobe: cost per wear.
Endings from Nightmare Brunette.
One of my philosophy professors lectured wildly about love once, yelling: “When you’re in love with someone, that person is the lighthouse of your universe.” (I scrawled it inside Science and Poetry in pencil—lighthouse of your universe—as if I would ever forget that phrase.) He was a delightful caricature of his position. I could swear he literally tore his hair out while howling at us. He went on, “Nothing means as much without that person.” One of the men in the class repeated, incredulous, half-laughing “so you’re saying you can’t enjoy, like, a vacation, without someone if you’re really in love with them?” “Of course not.” the professor replied. “Not completely. You recognize beauty, but beauty means less if they don’t witness it with you. Beauty is less. You see something sublime and your first thought is that they should be there with you. It’s not as good without them. They illuminate. They make everything more.”
Leif (Layfe!), infamous Viking, linked me to this the other day — a Sufjan Stevens hip-hop mash-up. It’s good, too.
Happiness 101 from Guiding Lotus.
It’s all raw week at Cafe VegNews!
Tim Brownson, my favourite life coach (why yes, he is!) wrote Imagine This. & you should read it.
Telephones are sexy (NSFW).
Ask Nicole is still a great blog. Viz:
Q: What is your take on open relationships/polyamory?
A: If you like processing, then polyamory is for you. I estimate five to ten hours of processing for every one hour you get having sex with someone else.
Ditto on 1000 Awesome Things. Take, for example, #812 When you’re drowning and then a dolphin comes to your rescue, & #814 Cheesy theme songs from 80’s sitcoms. Neil makes me laugh so hard, I love him!
I freaking LOVE Winona & her advanced fashion quiz.
Rachael Gibson writes about Amanda Lepore perfume. Aaaaamazing!
Haute Macabre features Rick Owens yumminess, a fab reader-submitted what I wore feature, & mega fetishy heel-less platforms from Nina Ricci.
From JAK & JIL: Kanye West’s new girlfriend has some good stuff in her closet. (Jazzi tried on that dress the other day. It is hot.) I want these boots. & a crystal-covered cap.
Okay… I’m going to splash around in the madness of SXSWi now! Have an amazing weekend!
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Winona is seriously one of the funniest humans alive.

Way, way more than five or ten hours.
“endings” just nearly made me cry. beautiful.
Q: What is your take on open relationships/polyamory?
A: If you like processing, then polyamory is for you. I estimate five to ten hours of processing for every one hour you get having sex with someone else.
I respectfully disagree. The people I know in polyamorous relationships are in them precisely because they DON’T like processing, and so they involve themselves with people who aren’t going to be jealous or needy just because they’re sleeping with someone else. The polyamorous people I know don’t need validation from their partners, nor constant reassurance, because they’re secure in the fact that their partners love them, and secure in themselves. And so there is minimal processing, because it’s unnecessary.
I really liked the Happiness website. Lately I have been feeling down because I’ve been picking up on people’s negative energy and I am also sensitive. So, reading that helped me feel better (:
Lovely links on the Carousel again :‘D
Will you be attending SXSW?
1000 awesome things…new favorite blog.
I’ll be working at SXSW! American Apparel is having a crazy flea market where all clothes will be priced from $1-40 I believe. I work Saturday the 21st =] Try to stop by! I’d love to see you!
I want to be at SXSW... next year?
Awesome links as always, can’t wait to hear about the amazing time I’m sure you’ll have at SXSW – I’d love to make it myself one year.
i have a question regarding love.. what do u do wen the person u love most in the whole world n absolutely cant live without, doesn’t return the feelings? then what??.. :( plz help
then it’s very difficult, ami. you go through a period of mourning. After checking with them first to make sure you are right – don’t let it just be a misunderstanding. but yes, it is hard, but you emerge a stronger person eventually & you know what to look for next time – someone who makes you feel like Gala’s professor described & who feels the same way about you.
Gala – your professor is so right. That guy in the class must never have been in love yet. When you are, things aren’t complete unless you can share them with that person. They might be really great and enjoyable, but you still wish they had been there to experience that thing with you. I’ve often felt that, and that’s why I’d rather work with my lover.
Maybe that’s why cheating is so bad – because it’s an experience that you can’t share either physically or by telling your longterm partner about it afterwards. So it’s a selfish experience that isn’t part of your partnership.
Perhaps polyamory has a benefit in that respect – because maybe then you can share experiences (or even other people)? And at least you would not have to lie. Would be interested to hear from people who knew.
Awesome carousel, as always! Having to do with things to distract you, with your flair for astrology, you should go to www.astro.com and find out ALL your zodiac signs, not just your sun sign! ♥ Have fun!

I think that university students shouldn’t lose an opportunity to purchase custom classification essay utilizing the assignment writing services, because it will apparently be a great pathway to show the writing techniques.
