Carousel -- Week Ending 20th February 2009

[ 19 February 2009 ]

<3 Love according to children. Hagebutten is like a professional internet scavenger, always unearthing untold treasures! I think my favourites are…

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” – Noelle, age 7
“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” – Tommy, age 6
“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt.” – Chris, age 7
“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” – Rebecca, age 8
“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” – Karen, age 7

<3 Tim Walker + Lily Donaldson = a good time.

<3 Eight successful people grateful they got canned from CNN.

<3 John Gilbert’s Destiny Machine sounds pretty good.

“The Destiny Machine allowed visitors to alter their horoscope. By diverting the influence of their ruling planet to match that of a different planet they could claim the horoscope of a different star sign. Alternatively they could cancel out the influence of their ruling planet altogether to take charge of their own destiny. Some used it merely to reinforce their ruling planets effect.”

<3 Georgette sent me this link & I love her for it: Making Latex Clothing is a blog about pedigree puppies! Nawww, just kidding, it’s a blog about — you guessed it — making latex clothing! Including a mad cute bow headband & latex leggings. Yay! Go forth & prosper!

<3 Marie, aka Agent Lover, put together this Valentine’s Day Hump Mix featuring the favourite sex songs of a whole bunch of people, like Violet Blue, James St James, & even… me!

<3 My friend (okay, he’s probably not actually my friend, we have only met once; he is nice though) wrote this piece for the New York Post: A Guy’s Take On ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’, & of course, he’s on point. I’m allowed to like a movie but not agree with its message, right?!

<3 President’s Day Cupcake Mosaic. Holy shit. My jaw dropped when I saw this.

<3 How The Crash Will Reshape America from The Atlantic. It’s long (6 pages) but the summary is basically: creative people will come out on top. Sweet!

<3 Small Idea. Big Impact. (Less Mess.) Amazing. Even funnier is that my friend sent me this link the day after I’d been reading The Guide To Getting It On, which mentions how men loooove to aim for things in the bowl.

<3 From the link above, I found the Nudge blog which is about behavioural nudging, & it is awesome.

<3 the scribble project is neat. I wish I could draw! Alas, I cannot.

<3 There’s a new mix by Millions Billions & Tendercakes. I think it goes without saying that you should download it. Doesn’t it?!

<3 PONY&ZUCKER is the joint blog of two exceptionally cute, creative girls. From Germany. I think. I don’t know! They make zines & do cool art projects.

<3 I found Lisa Currie through them, too. I love her good vibe notes! I’m going to print a bunch out & start giving them to my friends.

<3 I think Rachel Gibson’s Fur Coat, No Knickers is my new favourite fashion blog. I’m not feeling most fashion blogs at the moment, & in fact, have pretty much stopped reading them. Rachel does it right — she covers all the interesting stuff, with no boring bits, good pictures & a sense of humour. Mad props girl. For example, she featured this Marchesa dress which has two unicorns on it. Not to mention these Chanel paper headdresses. Aaaaaaamazing.

<3 Here are my favourite things from Zoomdoggle in the last week or so. Live In A Cave (Ebay Alert). So cool! Playing With Brainwaves. !!! New Sport Alert: Running From Cameras, hahah. & finally. MICHAEL JACKSON IS SELLING PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING HE OWNS. Details here. Dear god. That painting of Albert Einstein wearing the King of Pop’s sunglasses & glove is almost the best thing I’ve ever seen. Nubby, maybe we should pool our life-savings & buy some gear to decorate our bachelorette pad!

Uh Huh Her’s guide to Los Angeles
Here’s part 2!

Hoop magic at Cirque du Soleil. Thanks Frank!

Soviet Army = first breakdancers.

MAC Cosmetics Hello Kitty. Yum.

If you haven’t seen Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman
yet, you definitely should. So awesome.

Love letters & feather headdresses,

<3

  1. Love according to children is so sweet… children are so honest and a lot smarter than I realize sometimes!

  2. Hump mix – AWWW YEAH. When I was about 18 I made a similar kind of compilation CD for a friend who’d just bought a panelvan, colloquially known in Australia as a ‘Shaggin’ Wagon’ or, by us, as ‘The Fuck Truck’. He had big plans for it, including a full-length mirror on the ceiling… lol.

also, that cupcake mosaic is AMAZING! I was expecting something hideous, seeing as it’s on cake wrecks, but I was pleasantly surprised :D

  4. I think this is one of my favourite Carousels. ‘Love according to children’ is so sweet!

Oh, and I watched the MAC Hello Kitty promo with a boy, who sat there stunned and, at the end, burst out, “What’s up with the gimp masks? And WHY did she climb inside a gigantic tulle vagina?” :P!

  12. I’ve been unhealthily obsessed with Hello Kitty all my life. I saw an ad in Vogue, so I’m going to treat myself to some of the MAC HK range – uber cute! Did you see that Katty Perry’s outfit from the Brit Awards (Hello Kitty) is for sale via ebay? RE Daily Outfit, the link to the 2008 entry – Bowerbird is awesome, I bout a black dress and faux fur coat – the site just oozes glamorous.

  15. Could I please live in that Hello Kitty ad? And it’s so cool that Lou Lou (of LouLoulovesyou.com), her “day-job” store did some of the latex pieces for the campaign.

If I could, I’d totally be running around with my underpants showing under a short poofy skirt all the time!

  16. I am worried about Joaquin Phoenix’s mental health… That was uncomfortable to watch…

But on a happier note, I am way excited for Hello Kitty MAC, that video was awesome

  17. I just started crying when I read Love According To Children.
I always say: we should talk to children and old people more often. They are wise.
Thank you for all these beautiful things ! ♥

  18. “When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”
That made me cry. I want to find a love like that.
    Beautiful.

  27. I love those kiddie quotes about love. They’ve never experienced the kind of love they’re describing, yet they’re spot on.

And damn, the cupcake mosaic is astonishing. Bless Cake Wrecks.

    <3 Sal · Feb 20, 09:18 AM · #
  28. I am in love with the kid’s quotes!
“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” = Best.

p.s. Gala, I know you do yoga, do you have any yoga DVD recommendations?

    Thanks!

  29. OMG. I will attend that MJ auction and raise my paddle to BID ON EVERYTHING while wearing my glitter glove. We need it all! Who said that excess is out of style? GOLD EVERYTHING!!!!! Hahaha.

    <3 Nubby · Feb 20, 10:48 AM · #
  30. I’m so glad you posted that guy’s take on He’s Just Not That Into You. That’s something I’ve always suspected and written about, but it’s nice to hear a guy say it.

But don’t worry – you feel free to enjoy any movie you like! I love Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” even though I disagree with its message. What can I say? It’s catchy!

    <3 Teresa · Feb 20, 11:03 AM · #
  31. Wow, that Joaquin Phoenix interview was super strange. Why would someone agree to come on an interview program, and then sit there all awkward and silent? I agree with Gen, he’s appears to be quite unbalanced.

I loved that final quote; love is when your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you! I wish it were that easy to identify! (Oh, I know he loves me, I saw little stars!)

And to Teresa loving “Single Ladies,” check this cover out, it’s awesome! www.youtube.com/watch?v=56lE_Q…

  35. Joaquin Phoenix aha what a coool kid. i wish i knew what was really going on…was it planned? was it for realz? i wish i wasnt so suspicious but i am..
