Carousel -- Week Ending 21st March 2008

[ 20 March 2008 ]

It’s a very varied Carousel this week — from bondage to Guy Kawasaki & through to self-transformation! Hope you enjoy it.

<3 Radio New Zealand interviews Molly Crabapple of Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School! Seems appropriate, since I’m from New Zealand & I’m going to be at Dr Sketchy’s modelling next week! (Come & see me!)

<3 250 Things I Have Learnt That Will Make You A Become A Highly Successful Speaker from Eric Feng.

<3 Hindsights, from Guy Kawasaki’s blog ‘How To Change The World’.

“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

<3 In Love With A Japanese Guy by my super friend Deanne! This is the story of her meeting her Japanese lover, as well as tips for dating in Japan. Deanne & Masao are so cute together that it actually hurts! Doki doki!

<3 How To ‘Work a Room’ Better Than Obama from We The Change.

This video is mind-altering & life-changing!

  1. Thank you very much for posting the Temptation article. This is something I really needed considering I’m a veg and some things seem irresistible, making it hard to say no (I’ve managed to do it so far). I’m also trying to create a healthier diet. Thanks again!

  2. Gala, I watched the Jill Bolte Taylor video earlier this week and it was so moving, I’ve found it hard to stop thinking about. What an incredible woman she must be. I’m glad to see it being promoted around the net because I think we could all learn a little something from what she has to say!

  5. That video made me cry. Not in a sad way, it was just … overwhelming. And the way she spoke, the emotion in her voice … well. I think I have to watch it again.

  9. My aunt had a stroke a few weeks ago, so that video hit home quite a bit. Two particular things sprang to mind whilst watching it. One: if the general public actually knew the tiniest fraction about the physical, intricately complicated workings of the brain & listened to people like Jill Bolte Taylor, religion and pseudoscience as well as selfishness and anti-altruism (libertarianism and objectivism if you like, two amongst the most disgusting schools of thought) would be no more, and indeed, the world would be a much, much better place. And two, this is why people take drugs and this is why people have mental illnesses. We’re nothing more than our brains, our consciousness is our brain. It’s very frightening yet comforting at the same time.

  11. That video was very informative! what an inspiring woman.

Nana above said ‘And two, this is why people take drugs and this is why people have mental illnesses. We’re nothing more than our brains, our consciousness is our brain. It’s very frightening yet comforting at the same time.’
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Thankyou for the links too Gala :)

  12. this article about the energy vampires was very interesting and useful for me. i knew some persons who act like energy vampires, and i tried several years to help them out untill i realized it would never ever help them out, cos they LOVE their probs too much. some of them went to a doctor and spent much money on psychoanalyse, but they decided to keep on moaning to the doctors as well. best advice is to go on a distance to people who dont want to help themselves. that dont mean to be cruel or helpless to good friends who have an actual problem. but if somebody only exist for a problem and dont stop moaning about the same things again and again and dont want any solutions: RUN! we all have our problems, we all need our energy for ourselves.

  16. the video was really interesting to watch, and i think it’s really nice that she shares such a change of her consciousness and the reflection on it with the rest of the world.

The BDSM link was not one for me ;) I think I am a really open minded and a curious person, but sex and submissives really puts me off; but I think it’s very interesting that there so many different orientations concerning sexuality!

  17. I LOVE the Unhappy Meals article, it is long but definitely worth reading. The thing I found most interesting was his explanation of how the complexity of natural foods have an effect on our bodies. It reminded me of something I read in a raw food blog or article, roughly that we can’t understand exactly what happens when we eat an apple. All fruits and vegetables are superfoods. And it’s definitely good advice to avoid eating things that your great great grandmother would not recognise as food!

  18. omg, I red the “unhappy meal” article a loooong time ago, I posted something on my blog and I really wanted to link it, but the link was lost! Thanks a lot for posting it, now I can read it again and post it on my site! :)

  19. The video was very overwhelming, my mother had explained her experience of having a stroke like that. Where everything was clear in her mind but everything around her a blur, a mess of things too huge to comprehend. And speakers message is soo moving. thank you for posting it up.

  20. What a beautiful woman Jill is, the video was awesome in it’s true meaning and I too was overwhelmed with tears at the end. It’s the truest message in a most honest form and I really appreciate you putting it up for everyone to be inspired by :)
