<3 Rainbow cake! Siona sent me this. I want to make one!

<3 Harper’s Bazaar are good. Tim Walker & Tim Burton teamed up (again) for their Magical Fashion issue. Buy this, & frame the pictures.

<3 I feel very positively towards OkCupid. Very positively. They have so many users, their site is so easy & fun to use, & the people on there are rad. They’ve started a blog where they discuss trends in online dating, & it is SO INTERESTING & COOL. I always loathed statistics at university but that’s probably because we weren’t talking about people’s likelihood to murder someone if they knew they would never get caught, & whether people would indulge their lover’s rape fantasy if asked. Hello, awesome. Check out the Flowchart To My Heart & Exactly What To Say In A First Message, too. Then subscribe! (Oh, they are on Twitter too, & they post cool stuff. Okay that is enough plugging, to be sure!)

“Interesting exceptions to the “no netspeak” rule are expressions of amusement. haha (45% reply rate) and lol (41%) both turned out to be quite good for the sender. This makes a certain sense: people like a sense of humor, and you need to be casual to convey genuine laughter. hehe was also a successful word, but much less so (33%). Scientifically, this is because it’s a little evil sounding.”

<3 I really do love Sera Beak. She is one of the most fabulous, insightful, luminous girls I have ever met. If you don’t know who she is, you should read this: What the hell is a Redvolutionary?

<3 A Day In The Life Of Hunter S. Thompson goes a bit like this…

3:00 PM rise
3:05 Chivas Regal with the morning papers, Dunhills
3:45 cocaine
3:50 another glass of Chivas, Dunhill
4:05 first cup of coffee, Dunhill
4:15 cocaine
4:16 orange juice, Dunhill
4:30 cocaine
4:54 cocaine
5:05 cocaine
5:11 coffee, Dunhills

...& I love the comment below:

Mr Thompson sure had a serious relationship with time.

<3 Like dead things? Me too! Check out Ravishing Beasts, the best ever blog for taxidermy fans!

<3 love exists is a great Flickr group.

<3 I saw this movie last year with Gilda, & it is, in fact, where I bought my pin of Yayoi! Leena sent me the link to this, thank you little lady!

Yayoi Kusama: I Adore Myself

  6. Gala! I love OKcupid, I met my boyfriend off there :) It’s really the best online dating site, and has lots of young people (like 20-25) on it which makes it more “hip” I guess? Haha.

  7. Oh thank you so much for that Burton magazine shoot!! I LOVE it!

Plus, i knew about the rainbow cake, from this website, where they bake it slightly different, but still looking awesome!

I only wish we had such gel food colours here in Italy!

    Cheers, and thank you Gala

  9. I met my live-in boyfriend on OKCupid! Our compatibility percentage was only something like 70% but we went out anyway, and we’ve been together for about a year now. So there’s a little verification from one of your nonpareils that it can work!

  10. Hi Gala!

Your link to OkCupid reminded me of something. I remember the first time you posted about OkCupid, it was two Julys ago. I was single at the time and curious about the whole online dating thing, so I signed myself up. I wasn’t expecting much, but they had fun quizzes! A week and a mutual five-star looks-and-personality rating later, I met my boyfriend. We have been dating for a year, and have moved in together three months ago. Life is bliss and I am so happy, Gala. Thanks for helping me meet him; if not for you I would probably have never clicked on that link!

  11. i saw a thing for a rainbow cake exactly a year ago today but i modified it for my best friends birthday (which is today which is how i remember) b/c her favorite colors are blue and yellow so i made a 6 layer blue and yellow monster of a cake for her. it was delicious and wicked awesome if i may say so.

  12. My friend made me a rainbow cake one year, in the shape of a rainbow. I pointed it out in a cookbook about a month earlier and he surprised me with it- so sweet. It tasted AWFUL though, overwhelmed by the flavour of food colourings! And yet… I still want that other cake. Damn.

  13. I think that dress size converter is off, I was size 12 in Australia and size 8 in the US, that thing is telling me that size 12Aus is size 10US.

I saw that Tim Burton spread and I liked it, but I wish it was more consistent. A couple of the pages were super literal and others were not related to his work as much, I think it would have been better with a more middle road as far as attachment to his films go.

    <3 Nicole · Sep 24, 03:02 PM · #
  14. That dress size conversion chart is wrong =/. A US size 4 is a NZ size 10 but the chart says differently.

    <3 Raquel · Sep 24, 03:02 PM · #
  15. Nicole & Raquel — Oh, crap. I’ll take the link down, then!

  16. Thanks Gala, lovely links….but man, I hate Hunter S. Thompson and all his drug crap. But that’s just me.

  21. I don’t know what’s more ridiculous: the guy who had to write down what he was looking for in a partner (and then said it wrong) or the guy who thought to say, “Hi Mom” on a dating video.. haha. Gotta love the 80s…and dating sites…and montages… LOL

  22. Awwww so much love for OkCupid! It’s always nice when things like that work out, huh?

  23. another okcupid story!! the last time you posted the link to okcupid, in may, i signed up. a few days later, i started talking to this boy…. we haven’t stopped talking since. my boyfriend of almost 3 months :) loved his burning man photo..!

it’s his birthday in a couple weeks.. totally doing a surprise tea party with cupcake inclusion.

  24. Good find on the rainbow cake! Like Cri mentioned above, omnomicon has a more psychedelic variation on the idea!

I made one earlier this year for my friend’s birthday, and got some nifty pictures of technicolor cake-making in the process!

I think it would be awesome if you’d have a gallery on this site whith a collection of the most mind blowing pictures you found all over the www!
An inspirational gallery of some sort… :)

    Love your blog!

  30. I made a rainbow cake yesterday! it’s sitting on the counter right now waiting to be sliced into by my boyfriend’s best friend’s girlfriend’s daughters. yeah I make cake for everyone. everyone deserves cake every once in a while. and little girls who have to get used to a new daddy and a new apartment and a new baby deserve a rainbow cake, and if it’s the new daddy’s best friend’s girlfriend who has to bake it, then so be it.

    <3 Lily · Sep 25, 06:15 AM · #
  31. Almost sounds like you’re advocating use of cocaine – touch & go, but by giving it page space on your weekly round up it could be seen as a positive attitude towards the drug – just thought it was worth mentioning considering your demographic.

  42. “Firebreathing dragons.” -random guy on the video

Haha, that whole thing was way lame and way cute and overall hilarious. The Hunter S. Thompson daily routine was funny and sort of sad. I wonder what he would say if he was filmed for that date video. “Effity eff eff eff. I’ll be your Bobby, if you’ll be my Whitney. As your lawyer, I advise you to date me.”
