Carousel -- Week Ending 31st July 2009
[ 31 July 2009 ]
I’m on the cover of Cut Out + Keep magazine this month, & there’s a great article on me here! Thanks so much Cut Out + Keep, I am super-flattered!
Let Them Eat Models. Designer cupcakes! Thanks, Brittany!
Anna Wintour on 60 Minutes... if you haven’t seen it yet! I love the dude’s comments on Karl Lagerfeld, too. “Karl Lagerfeld, who this season favours the Dracula look”... ahaha are you kidding me? Amazing.
Cara sent me these Maison Michel photos & I like them a whole lot.
The August issue of Lipstick Royalty is out, it’s brilliant & it features an interview with me! Download it & enjoy!
73 Ways to Become a Better Writer. These tips are great.
Hahaha, Camel Hoof is my new favourite website. Mostly I like that they called Diddy a “toolbox”. The girls who run it want to buy a house whose doorbell plays Jay-Z’s Big Pimpin’ in its entirety. The topics of discussion include “vaginas, fried chicken, every female rapper ever, hood-rat nails, grinding violently on strangers & 1990s glory days of RnB”. YES! They also introduced me to the following… Lol, lol, lol again.
Our very own house mother, Fuertes ‘The Foul-Mouthed Filipina’ Knight, coined the phrase “he’d get tied to my radiator” as a way of showing her affections towards certain males (mostly rappers).
& this is SO OLD but what the effffffffff, oh god, I die. Black People LOVE Us!
Going on a summer holiday? So is Zoe Foster, legendary beauty editor, & here’s what she’s taking with her. Girl knows her stuff. I want to try half those products now… Damn, she’s good.
Boner Party explain the Ghostbusters boner & the talent boner.
How To Kiss A Stranger by Laura at Tweexcore.
Peter Callesen is amazing. Thanks Meghann!
Finding My Goddess is one of the most intense things I have ever seen. I found this through Mystic Medusa, of course. One of my favourite websites, hands down. & the comments on her post are hilaaaaaaaarious as everyone tries to work out what sign this guy is!
“PLEASE can someone e-mail him, explaining that waist circumference is only exceeded by the dimensions of her brain/expansion of her aura, whatevs and that she TOO is a GLOBAL VISIONARY chanelling angelic insights, currently based in Mogambo (a spa hotel where he is welcome to visit and see how the natives adore her sacred hide) and requiring but a small sacred investment of 10 million (USD) to manifest Angel TV. But that she needs his birth deets to run them through (invisble) celestial database device. It runs on spring water and her gigantic indigo aura – which, on a night without too much microwave interference – can be sensed from as far away as The Palisades, Palm Springs… Tell him you/she lives in Zemblanity Heights and see if he GETS that. He is a GLOBAL VISIONARY GENIUS with an UNBEARABLE POIGNANT AND AMAZING sense of humour, he will get it. Surely. And – this would be fun to trigger his Madonna Ho complex. He boasted about his dick being able to stay hard for hours, tantric thingie…SHE boasts that her, um, yoni is legendary – toned by three hours a day of secret Kahuna exercises & douches containing three drops of immortelle essential oil + magnesium…”
Need a bikini? Johnny Cupcakes has you covered (literally). Ahhh so cute! Merci beaucoup, Evie!

WATCH THIS IT IS EFFING RAD.
David is the best rapper in New Zealand hands down.
P.S. Cuteness maximus.
Love letters & feather headdresses,

Reading the cut-out article paired with my morning coffee was fantastic.
That’s funny—that same photo by Verhext of Princess White Deer caught my eye on Flickr! And I love the videos you posted!
Thanks for posting the link to you Lipstick Royalty Magazine interview Gala!
Oh the Lipstick Royality Magazine looks like a lot of fun to read & Thank you soo much for the ‘becoming a writer tips’
& that lil kid is so cute
30 days of mascara reviews
Fuck yeah Camelhoof.
Love me some Fuertesknight. That girl is excellent.
That Cut Out + Keep article makes for a really great, in-depth companion to your about pages, and I’ll definitely be re-visiting the site (I had somehow managed to miss it before).
These will definitely give me loads to read through during my last hour at work! 4-5pm on a Friday is always a really boring time, Carousel helps me to beat the boredom each week and stop the time dragging so much!
Loved the article on you. Super cute and very flattering
As usual, as a fiction writer I always enjoy reading anything to do with writing. Good one! :]
Camel Hoof sounds amazing too. Must check that out. I’d so live in that house with that doorbell!
ooh, i like that David video. he’s talented (and cuuuute) !
Ha ha ha – those Agent Provocateur nipple cupcakes are AWESOME. I now need to organise some sort of party revolving around boobie-cakes.
“Anna is like… Madonna”!
LOVE THAT SOO MUCH!
The designer cupcakes are gorgeous and look so delicious. I would devour the Chanel ones with probably much less restraint and class than I’m used to!
Congrats on all the features and interviews! You’re all over the place :)
The Eels are one of my most favorite bands. I’m glad to see him working with Mighty Boosh!
Oh my goodness that “finding my goddess” thing is absurd. My favorite part is when he says “If she has been a prostitute, that is GOOD!!” Not that there might not be any beautiful brave stylish polite sensitive vegetarian selfless thespians who commune with God on a regular basis and happened to have at one time put a price on her ecstatic sexual magic, I’m just saying maybe that might be expecting a bit much. Other than that though, the ad is solid. If I only loved classical music I might be worthy of his love dance, or whatever…
liz — It’s such a great photo, how could I not use it?!
Abjekt — I can’t wait to see you :D :D :D
Vixel — Yeah, it’s one of the best articles on me that I’ve seen so far! Really impressed. Glad to help you get through your Friday, miss!
e — He is mad cute & awesome as hell. Best song, seeeriously, I have listened to it about a million times in the last day & a half!
Jenna — Haha I KNOW! I can’t wait to see it!
Marissa — Ahhaaha oh his love dance. Apparently he tried to sue Scientology, too… Mmmmmmmm nutty!
i had the pleasure of seeing the mighty boosh live in december, it was hands down one of the funniest things ive ever seen. i really hope they make it in america.
The “finding my goddess” thing totally freaked me out… “Into the Light” happens to be a song my friend and I wrote together… Stop using that! It’s our phrase, d**m it!
Congrats on the articles, Gala, I loved reading them.
Just had to say you make me feel so excited about life this week Gala. Well done! x
DagNabit! You are right about David. I haven’t heard a song that old school throw back kind of retro beat sweet in a long time. Thanks!
What a delightful assortment of Carousel links, Gala!
Firstly, that’s a really excellent “Cut Out + Keep” article on you, Gala! It was a pleasure to read.
Secondly, OH MY GOD. I first found “Finding My Goddess” on Gawker/Jezebel, and it’s horribly fascinating. The love dance! The Angel Vision! The plans for world domination! Into the Light! On one hand, I gotta hand it to him for being so proactive and fearless, and for just putting himself out there. But THEN- it’s depressingly hilarious how he goes on and on about how enlightened he is, how he expects the same spiritual maturity from his “goddess,” how great and “so unlike other men” he is, but then busts out these gems: “She must have long hair! No exceptions! She must have a trim waistline! No exceptions! My goddess must have a high singing voice!” Wow, the internet really is the greatest thing ever.
And heaven forbid she be a Scientologist. ‘Cause, you know, that’s just wierd.
Way to go lady— in a rare fit, that kid singing Cash songs totally makes all “OMG I WANT A BABY BUT ONLY IF HE’LL DO THAT!”
Just noticed the new design, yay!
The Carousels are my favorite part of Icing. So many inspiring and/or totally rad links in one place. Off to study the 73 ways to become a better writer now! :D
I loved the article in Cut Out + Keep, but was appalled by all the negative comments left on it. It is obvious that some people outside the Gala Universe just want to judge and make assumptions, and completely ignore all the amazing things that Gala has done for so many people! They obviously have too much spare time on their hands if they just sit around and trash other people and try to bring them down. You’re amazing, Gala!
Fantastic list, as always. I love that little guitar playing kid, too, so cute!
Loved the article in Cut Out + Keep. It really gave me a deeper insight into the mind of miss gala! however, i was outraged by the negative comments left on the article. how dare people judge you and make up crap about your life and how you live it. you are an amazing person and your website has touched so many people’s lives. after i discovered your site many years ago (after your article in an australian magazine) and the truly beautiful people that are part of the gala community, i havent looked back!
i’ll end with a quote from John Lennon
“ after all that is said and done….you can’t go pleasing every one ..”
there is more to the quote but i didnt think it was appropriate to post!
love you gala! keep up the fantastic work
xxoo
those comments on the cut out + keep blog are absolutely ridiculous. i can’t stand it when people get all up in the financial business of others.
Oh man, that five-year-old playing Folsom Prison Blues is so friggin’ awesome. I’ll be smiling for the rest of the day thinking of that.
Ah! I was reading the article about you in Cut Out + Keep and I TOTALLY know what you mean about feeling completely at home in New York. I felt the same way about Paris… It really is an amazing feeling.
BOOSH LOVE!
OH MY GOD!! THE BOOSH!! That song’s been my message tone for AAAAAGES :D
Oh dear lord…I cannot get over that findingmygoddess.com guy!! What the hell?? He can’t be real, I refuse to believe it!! ArGGHHHH!!!!
In fact, the more I read it, the more convinced I am that this guys is a.) a serial killer, or b.) an escaped mental patient
“I love animals but pets drain me”???????
Thanks for the best laugh I’ve had all week!
Gala, that article was brilliant. You deserve a dozen pink icing covered cupcakes with little candied unicorns on them for being so inspiring. Seriously.
Oh the Boosh. My middle sister loves the show and got me into it. I LOVE Vince.
I with Kylie.
Go Gala.
I imagine that you would not let those jealous people get to you. I bet they have created crappy lives for themselves and are too negative to change. Apart from that, it is illegal to publish untruths about people, so they should have a good look at themselves.
Soup Soup Tasty Soup Soup Spicy Carrot and Coriander…
But can you finish the lyrics?
Now I’m hungry for cupcakes. And a new song.
I absolutely love these findings! Thank you!!♥
Can’t wait for the september issue! Eeek!
OMG I am the massivest Boosh fanatic you will ever meet, so pumped you chucked Eels up XD
AHAHAHHA just read the findingmygoddess ad!! you made my day.
Dearest, loveliest Gala!
I would just like to say that I love your blog and enjoy reading your posts every chance I get. I admire you for keeping your cool when other readers decide to consider your financial situation or any other aspect of your life in general “their business.” It’s not.
Thank you for brushing off their negativity in such a mature and inspiring manner. It was really helpful for me to see considering I have had similar situations lately with people judging me and meddling in my affairs. As long as you are living a life that makes you and those around you happy, that is what matters most! Icing continues to share a positive attitude and outlook everyday regardless of whether you are feeling well or not, and I just wanted to take the time to say that there a many readers out there who genuinely appreciate all the hard work and care you put into your blog!
Best wishes for the future, Gala!
Love,
Kaitlin

i was wondering if you could do a post on cool websites blogs etc. i know you did an article in the past but could you please update and maybe give us an idea of what its all about. thanks, keep up the beautiful work xx
I felt the need to post about those comments to the Cut out + Keep article. It really irritated me that people would be so downright rude and then expect a response from you!
sparkleandglitter.co.uk/2009/0…
Oh my god, I want that Princess White Deer costume SO BAD!
Boosh!! Yay.
Oh my god. I just spent an hour looking at that guy’s “Finding my Goddess” site and my life will never be the same. Thank a lot!
I loved those designer cupcakes, they’re awesome
Hi Gala!
I know this is from sooo long ago, but could you invite me on editorscloset.com?
I’ve read your post a while back about it, and someone else mentioned it to me again…
I know you’re busy and all but I would really appreciate it.
bellaisaboy@yahoo.com
Thanks!
i was relieved and happy to read all those comments on the article. it’s about time that people spoke their minds and were actually allowed to keep their comments up, unlike here, where they’ll be deleted upon realizing they’re even a bit negative. whether or not all that stuff is true, it’s still good to be able to dialogue about it.
People are saying mean stuff about you on the comment part of the first interview :( don’t they have anything better to do? You are an inspiration!!! Keep being you!!
Lovely new finds! I especially like the 73 Ways To Become A Better Writer and the videos (especially the little girl, how cute!!)
I am SO glad you know the Mighty Boosh!! And the Eel song! Such excellence.
I’m actually trying to make that my ringtone.. haha
