Cherry On Top
[ 17 January 2010 ]
So I have decided to kick off this new feature called Cherry On Top, which will happen on Sundays. (Get it? Sundaes? Hur hur!) It could be anything, a picture, a video, whatever, but usually it will be something that I think stands on its own & doesn’t require my commentary. I find so much rad stuff online that deserves to be shared! I don’t usually post on Sunday, so look at it like a fun bonus! Anyway, I hope you enjoy, & that this new feature inspires, excites, confuses, provokes conversation, amazes or bewilders you… Whatever you like! Here’s the first one…

Love letters & feather headdresses,

lovely!
You’re right- there is so many amazing things out there on the internet! You only have to find them, and know where to look.
fabulous! and i love the idea of a sunday post :)
This is such a cute idea!
I love this idea! Nothing like a few inspirational words of truth on a mudane Sunday afternoon. And that is so true. One of my “resolutions” for the new year was to worry less… I’m still working on it…!
Permission to share mine? farm3.static.flickr.com/2729/4…
:]
Ah, all things I really need to work on…. sigh I just tell myself perfect would be boring, haha.
This is really nice and i
ehm, my comment didn’t work, damn, embarassing… :P
it was supposed to go on with “i love sundaes”
:O).....thanks.
accepting change by creating fuzzy neon love in pink and electric blue
thank you ALWAYS for your spirit and inspiration! i love your site.
What a lovely idea! Adorable new feature and I love what you posted today. Gala, Gala – you’re brilliant.
Sweet!
you’re making us spoit nonpareils with all these posts! Will you keep up at this pace? :)
Plus, on the ear-headwear… Emilie Autumn is wearing rat-ears since ages… did I mentioned I lllllllove her?
Awesome, and a great idea for a new feature too! :D
me likey!
Love the new feature, Gala. Cherry on Top is an adorable title too. Your blog makes me happy. :)
I think Sunday is an optimum day for inspiration. I’ve always felt so depressed on Sundays, it would be nice to read something to lift my spirits!
oh wow. just today I was thinking that it would be so awesome if you did TilT or Carousel on Sundays, cos this is the day I usually have the most time to check through your blog ! so this is rather AWESOME !
& the name and the whole idea! my gawd. Im just a flaming ball of adoration right now, but they’re both so YOU and so YUMMY.
a BIG yes for this one & the first Cherry too. that is exactly what I needed after this weekend of drama llamas. thank you xo.
oooh, i love this new feature! i don’t post on sundays, either, it is my internet browsing day, ha, so cherry on top fits perfectly with me!
i dont know how you do it gala. but all the best! keep posting !! ive stopped blogging for awhile >.< merry week ahead everyone~
I love this idea. Can’t wait to see what else you have to share on Sundays :)
Yeah, following these rules would give you (all of us) a better life. Think if everyone accepted each other. That would be pretty amazing. Gay people could finally marry, for instance.
Good stuff.
always love the images you use in your regular posts so I think I’ll be love cherry on top!
And here I thought it was a post about the frozen yogurt chain!
Haha I do the same thing on Sundays! For example, this is the latest instalment of my “Sunday Picture”: of peacock women! http://www.stella-polaris.fr/2010/01/sunday-pictures-2/
What a cute idea! I’ll be looking forward to this :)
What a great idea!
Lookin’ forward to this:)
This is an awesome idea! Even more to look forward to :)
Awesome! I love this idea, Gala :)

Love this. Gonna put it on my wall.
Brilliant.
All the messages in your blog have been the same for the past 3 months. What happened to addressing life’s problems and doing advice and self-improvement pieces that actually help us? Lately it’s been Smile, smile, smile. But sometimes you can’t smile. Sometimes life just gets too hard. Come on, get real. The worst thing to hear when you’re at a point in your life when your feeling down is to “smile”. We got the message the first time. Sorry but it had to be said.
Dana — I’m sorry you’re feeling down! I’m always keen to hear topics or subjects you want to read about. Let me know if you have anything specific that you’d like me to address & I’ll see what I can do!
Dana, I kind of know how you feel, have you tried looking at other sites though? I don’t mean abandon Gala’s lovely site =p but I mean, I’m currently struggling with depression and financial issues and search for advice on blogs or just new ways to feel better, and I feel like I’ve heard them all. Gala’s blog is a part of the blogs I read, if I don’t find her message exactly what I’m looking for, there’s other blogs that I can look to. Not saying Gala’s site isn’t great, because it is! But like a lot of things, you need more than one source!
I’m still discovering new blogs every day, like I actually just in the past few months discovered Yes and Yes, and so I can look back thru archives of these newer, and older sites similar to Gala’s and get my fix. It’s like having a constant supply of reads!
Lord…these sound like rules for life…especially the bits about accepting criticism and taking responsibility!
Yes, as well as being a blog for advice & though it does deal with some problems that can come up in our lives, I see iCiNG more of a positive, light hearted blog, which is what a lot of people need, especially when they are depressed.
If you haven’t written an article on proper “constructive criticism” you should. I find there are too many people out there that have no clue how to give respectful criticism, never mind taking it.
I love the “feel good anyway” bit.You brighten my day Galalovelydear.
I second the constructive criticism article ;)
Thank you for this! I am going to cut it out and pin it up at my desk, very inspiring!!!
Wonderful sentiment. I can’t wait to see more posts like this from you!
Lovely. :)
I do agree though, I’d love to see some more of your wonderful advice/self improvement pieces – they helped me through some very difficult times, and still inspire me today.
Perfect Advice! x
I love the entire thing. I feel like a lot of people causing conflict in my life right now need to “take responsibility”. I just quit a job that was making me unhappy precisely because the manager was doing none of the above and making me so upset it was affecting my exterior life.
Just a note — ever since the makeover went up months ago, more often than not the majority of your photos have refused to load for me. I’m not using an ad-blocker for this site, and they will show if I rightclick and “view image”; however, even after I do that, they sometimes don’t show inline on the page.
I don’t know how widespread this problem is, but if it’s something in the programming, with up-to-date versions of Firefox, I thought you might want to be aware of it. It might be fixable and is definitely important to be aware of if image-only posts are going to become a weekly feature. :)
(This one is nice, btw.)
Don’t you already do this on a regular basis anyway?
It’s much appreciated, in any event. :)
M.E.-I have the same issue with the site as well…
Thirding about the images – for some reason not all of them load when I’m on the URL, though in my RSS reader they all come through just fine. Mysterious.
I love this, thank you for sharing this Gala!!
ditto on the images problem… a few pictures load, but most don’t, in a very random way — but it is particular to your site. (i am also on firefox). just FYI
I don’t understand why you need to announce this as a new feature when you already do this on a regular basis. Why don’t you actually put some time into writing posts with real life content, and not just some vague photo that basically reads “love everyone” and “yay life!” There used to be a time when you wrote articles that had real content, and I feel as if you feel you’re above spending time writing real content for this site and use excuses to post “filler” content such as this cherry on top nonsense. You may give it a cute name but that doesn’t make it more appealing nor interesting, it’s still filler.
And before everyone replies with “it’s her site, she can post whatever she wants. I love her!” don’t get hasty. This isn’t her personal site and she posts not only for our benefit, but for her monetary benefit as well. This is her main job according to her, and I feel as if she’s not very good at it anymore and I want her to improve as a writer-all readers who enjoy reading want to see good writers get better.
This site used to be so interesting and I feel let down that you’re excited to post just “a photo, or anything rad” without commentary. If you were really interested in writing good content you could form an article based on the many things you find online, and from that, form good commentary with your readers in the comments. If you leave it up to the comments to form the conversation then you’re basically waiting on us to do your job! That’s not right at all and I’m not very impressed. I usually only check your site now for link posts, and I’ve found so many good sites from your links that I just might give up reading yours.
Gala, have you seen the unicorn ecosystem video yet:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXVSNP...
It involves cupcakes, and teacup trees, and carnivorous trees, and tubby little unicorns.
You know, I do agree with Ella. I’ve been thinking the exact same thoughts for a few months now and she really articulated them well.
In the past, your articles — the ones YOU wrote, with ideas YOU constructed, and advice YOU put together, with words YOU chose — have been so, so helpful on a very personal level, and lately I’ve really been missing that.
I find that your site has been veering toward what Ella calls “filler,” and oftentimes that “filler” is really materialistic. Obviously, this is in part a fashion site, so of course there will be some shopping stuff, but to see so many real, substantive articles be replaced with “buy this! You’ll feel great!” so often is a letdown.
Not hating on anyone, just keeping in touch so you know how your readers feel. It’s unfortunate that so many people (including me!) only get in touch when they are dissatisfied; believe you me, I’ve had a lot of positive things to say about galadarling.com and just never commented until now.
It is your site, and you need to stay true to the messages you want to put out and you are free to ignore these comments if you want, but personally? I do hope you return to some of your older content.
You are too interesting and have too many intelligent, helpful, wise thoughts to start replacing your articles with found jpgs.
I find it iroinic that the new picture states ‘take on constructive critisism’ when i’ve seen far too many of those be deleted over the past 6 months. I always hoped Icing would go back to its old format and assumed as you had so many huge life changing things going on it was just taking a back seat.
So many issues have been raised here and else where about the complete lack of content on icing, and of course they get deleted as no doubt the above posters and my own will.
A lot of intelligent and articulate ladies have jumped ship here because of this attitude. I know you say ‘well its my site and if you don’t like it, thats not my problem’, but again, these are opinions coming from people who LOVED the articles you wrote and the unique way you wrote and approached them. It’s not the blaise attitude you’d expect to hear from someone such as your self.
Icing WAS ‘crowing your beautiful life’ i.e an alternative to the blogs yours has turned into where it offered real tangiable content, and that is where your original waved on in here to get. Now that has made way to pictures pictures pictures and you have never addressed as to why this is and just seem to keep hoping it will go away, along with the old long time readers who disagree.
I know I’ve already commented before, but now there’s more I’d like to say… I really hope you wont delete these comments, as you did with another one here (which was quite outspoken, but deleting it did nothing but confirm it was right, I’m sorry to say, I know you have a commenting policy, but what about explaining and then deleting something without fooling those who read here and notice these disappearings?), “ignoring” bad stuff not to let it harm you doesn’t mean to erase it (because this means you’re not ignoring, you are affected and offended and maybe overreacting) to think pink doesn’t mean that we have to pretend life it’s all about strawberries, astrology and rainbows, but to react in a positive way. Like taking time to answer to these comments (the last were very nice and polite!), discuss the constructive criticism, thank your readers for advices and ideas they suggest you instead of taking all credits, and stuff… Show th skeptics you can still write content without waiting for tomorrow’s TiLT list! (which I enjoy reading and writing for myself and my friends)
Or at least this is what I think, I’m not trying to tell you what to do or how to behave, nor threathening to stop reading your blog and such, I like it, it used to inspire me and it’s a source of cute things, I wish it can go on like this, I’m speaking my mind :)
Of course you’ll think otherwise, so please tell us!
Warm wishes
PS
Oh, this has nothing to do with the rest… but about that pink sequinned dress where you pictured the bunnyhead ring… you shouldn’t pay so much for some plastic dress, here in chinese shops you could find stuff like that for like 15$ ;)
I like the new feature! can’t wait for this Sunday :)
