Blue sunglasses
‘Zsa Zsa’ dress from Bowerbird Vintage
Gold belt also from Bowerbird Vintage
Manolo Blahnik heels
Lipstick is Flash ‘N’ Dash with Squeeze It lipglass from the Fafi for MAC collection (more on that later!)

I can’t explain why, but this outfit makes me feel very Rachel from Bladerunner... “Do you mind if I smoke?” I think it’s the neckline.

So, please allow me to talk a little bit about this dress. It’s from a boutique called Bowerbird Vintage, which is owned by a friend of mine named Joanna. When I went to Sydney last year for the fashion blogger’s high tea, I met her & was really struck by how lovely, authentic & gentle she is. Not to mention, she has a passion for fashion that rivals any of us!
Her site is full of beautiful original vintage treats — lots of dresses! — as well as re-worked pieces that needed a little love. She is famous for hacking off pouffy shoulders & bogus 80’s detailing so that when the garment re-emerges, it looks fresh & fabulous. If you’re hankering for a Tuesday afternoon shopping spree, Bowerbird is a very worthy establishment!
The very best thing is that I have wrangled a deal where any nonpareil who spends over $50 gets a 10% discount! All you need to do is flick her an email & she will apply it for you. Très fabuleux, non? Even better, Joanna offers free shipping within Australia & super-reasonable postage anywhere overseas.
Anyway, I hope you’ll take a look. Her prices are brilliant, she selects every piece with care & you’ll be supporting a wonderful woman.
Super-love & cupcakes,

I love this sleek sartorial direction you’re taking!
Oh honey, you look gorgeous! I feel like I should be flying first class & you should be showing be where the emergency exits are & flirting shamlessly with me because I’m a jet-setting superstar DJ! What? Can’t a girl dream? ;) Checking Joanna’s site out now. x
Natalie — Thank you!
Felicity — You’re so beautiful, you could be an air hostess in the sixties! & I would totally bring you extra champagne.
Wow! That dress is just, OMG I can’t find the words. You look so good I can’t stand it.
Wow! That dress fits you perfectly! Love the neckline, the crisp-looking fabric, and that little gold loop at the bottom!
Where are you shooting? All those escaladors! How did you manage to get the second shot? :O
Great. It’s chic and looks like you belong in a chic magazine for the rich&famous… who live in New York.
;3
Juls — Aw, merci!
Retro.Bunny — I actually had lover boy with me on assignment, taking the photos. He stood below me on the escalator & took the shots. There was a woman behind him staring at me & it was really embarrassing, haha, but when we got to the top she was like, “THAT DRESS IS GORGEOUS”. So cute!
I was like.. “Why do I love those shoes so much?!” as I rarely get excited about pumps, but oh my god I want some MBs.
as Monty Python would say…. “vuhhry nooice!waffer thin!”
yes you look fabulous!!!! when I have money I’m sooo buying something from Joanna’s site.
Megan — I was! Now I’m playing with makeup so I’m wearing something I’m okay with spilling on ;D
That dress reminds me of a Stewardess – a very stunning one at that, which then, in turn, reminds me of Sky Captain & the world of tomorrow.
I love the blue-ness of it all. I’d totally rock that outfit in red-red-red (to go with my hair)!
xoxoxoxoxo, carol
OMG, that dress is amazing, I’m not usually one for wearing dresses (in fact I don’t own any :[) but you are making me REALLY jealous right now! I ‘squeed’ when it appeared on my screen O_O
This is the first time I’ve posted here… today, I simply could not refrain – Gala, you look delicious!
wow! that is a POWER DRESS.
That dress looks amazing. Definately checking that website out now. And Gala, you look FIERCE in the first picture. =)
that dress is amazing & sososo flattering on you! your waist looks so small, & your proportions are perfect.
i got the flash n’ dash fafi/M.A.C. lipstick the other day & am so happy with it! i wore it out this weekend to a party i was working at & it looked fabulous in the lights with all the tiny sparkles in it. :)
How does that dress work? Does the front panel snap across, or is it sewn solid with a zipper up the back/side? I desire!
Thank you lovelies!
Emily — The front panel is sewn at the waist but it zips at the back!
ooooooh you look so gorgeous.
Haha, I was right – I thought there could be no way you were doing the old tripod&remote trick on an escalator. Amazing dress! Love it.
And Mayumi: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow! Yeah baby! Sometimes I think I’m the only person who loves that movie :D
This must be getting a bit repetitive but… HOLY CRAP, that dress is FRICKING AMAZING! It fits you perfectly!!! 10/10.
ab fab, gala! I instantly thought air hostess. I’m gonna start up an airline and make my air hostesses wear this, but…I get to be an air hostess too lol.
It fits you so perfectly tho. Did you get it fitted?
So adorable. Amazing look. It suits you perfectly. Next time sleeping on a flight i’ll wake up wishing for fab Gala-Girl.
the dress is sweet.

Very rachel indeed.
That dress is HOT SHIT! :)
oooh! thanks for the link to the bowerbird website! there is a cute dress i’m eyeing off now!
That dress is stunning, Gala, and I’m loving the outdoor pics! Melbourne is such a great city that I’m sure you’ll source lots of amazing backdrops to your chic outfits. Tres cosmopolitan!
thelonelylondoner — Nope, not fitted. Just happened to be the perfect size!
omg hot. you look like an air hostess from thee future! like a very stern teleport lady, no messing about with the teleport buttons! or something.
That’s one of the best dresses I’ve seen for ages!
oh my goodness! you look incredible in that first pic. The dress is incredible and a great pose! go girl.
Oh, wow, this is so sleek and chic! You do look a little sci-fi, it’s the shoulders and the folded neckline I think! And the very futuristic blue hair :-)
Where did you park your spaceship?
um… utterly floored by your glamour
the word
FIERCE
does not even come close to doing this look justice
ROWR!! ;) You look quite chic, Gala! I love how you pulled off such a “retro-futeristic” look with such fab-ness!
OH MAH GAWSH! That dress is pure magic. This is by far one of my favourite Gala looks – you look so svelte and elegant. Lovely!
that dress is just perfect.
That dressssss!
You are the stweardess of my dreams in that get-up….
GAH! This vintage site is amaaaaazing. I’ve died and gone to heaven…I’ve never been more excited that I sit in front of a computer for four hours working…now I have something to do!
Oh, it is so Bladerunner!
Lovely
All these comments make me want to make a video of me using my hands to show you how to put on your oxygen mask & use the lights to guide your way to the exits!!
Wow that looks amazing on you.
But actually, my first thought was glamorous Star Trek suit! I have no idea why.
Keep on rockin’ Gala!
Wow, that dress just looks amazing on you! What a great find!
Wow, defenetly rokcin’ the sexy flight attendant look. Loves it!
Ohh. You make look like a fabulous robo-futuristic chick with hair to match the outfit!
My first comment…and it is going to be: you look super cute! That is the only way I can think to put it. That dress is fantastic, and you look awesome without being too precious. Every post, you continue to enthrall me Gala!
Gala! That dress is totally gorgeous & I’m so in love with it! Rock it out!
HOT!
You look like you were made to hangout in that location, it matches your outfit perfectly! You should be a flight attendant…on a spaceship!
Truly fab dress. The shoulders!!!
You DO look very futuristic & bladerunner. I think its the neckline AND the shoulders. Fantastic.
Love the outfit. I have to ask, though, why is that in most of your photos your turn your feet in? I’m wondering because I live in Japan and here that’s considered very “feminine” although it gets old to see grown women walking like retarded ducks in an effort to look “kawaii “ (cute).
lynn — I don’t walk like that… it’s just a normal way of standing to me. No ballet training, see? ;D
